    Lamprais Lamb before opening
    Yierou M.

First time trying Sri Lanka food! It's a cross between Indian and South Asian cuisine so if you love them both, you will definitely like this place. I ordered a few items to try, one of their popular items is Lamprais, a rice dish with choice of protein and different sides wrapped into a banana leaf "packet" and baked...I got the lamb and it was so flavorful and spicy! Kinda like a spicy curry lamb biryani. Now I want to try the other proteins to see if the taste is different...either way, I know I will love it! Also got the fish spring rolls...I know I know, sounds weird but intriguing lol. So it was crispy like a spring rolls, the skin was thick more like an egg roll, filling texture was more on the mushy side, not diced up or chunky, so fair warning. It actually tasted good but had to get used to the texture. Last, I got the coconut custard dessert... love anything coconut but this wasn't it. I didn't taste any coconut and it was super sweet and kinda soggy versus a firm custard. Very cardamommy lol if that's a word hahaha. Not for me. So I would definitely go back for more Lamprais real soon...will probably just stick with that!

New restaurant in Manassas on Liberia Avenue that you have to try. It's food from the heart of Sri Lanka. The flavors are amazing. We had the Lamprais and the Seafood Kotthu. For dessert we ordered the Kiri Pani. The food was delicious, the service was great and the restaurant has a contemporary style. I highly recommend Banana Leaf if you're looking for something different

Banana Leaf was delish! I ordered to-go the chicken curry w three vegetables and it was so flavorful and a perfect spiciness to it.

Food is amazing, an explosion of flavors. This new gem opened recently and my hat is off to the chef! The lampri is full of veggies and different flavors, I also had the fresh ginger hot tea which was full of fresh ginger chunks.

A lot of restaurants tone things down to fit American tastes. Chennai Hoppers is one of the few spots in MoCo that doesn't. I've been here a few times now, trying something different each visit. It's unapologetically authentic South Indian cuisine. The space is cozy with a rustic feel. On our most recent visit, we were seated promptly and service was excellent. We ordered a couple of apps and entrees to share. The Kaalan Manchurian was a great start. It's similar to Chicken 65 but with mushrooms. Spicy, savory, and tangy all at once. We also tried the Aadu Nei Chukka. As someone who loves lamb, this one stood out. It's a dry dish with an intense masala that's deeply spiced and full of flavor. For mains, we got the Goan Fish Curry and the Madurai Goat Pepper. The Goan Fish Curry was milder than the goat, but still had plenty of heat since we ordered it spicy. The coconut milk base gave it a smoother, more balanced profile that worked well with the fish. The Madurai Goat Pepper was the opposite. Bold, pepper forward, and dry. Easily one of the better goat dishes I've had. Chennai Hoppers does a great job showing how spices should be used. Nothing is watered down, but everything still feels balanced.

Recommend starting with the Ragda Pattice and your main dish butter or tandori chicken. If they are serving scallops, order it! Whatever main dish you order, you have to order one of their house made chutneys. We really enjoyed the mango chutney. Also, don't forget the naan! We like plain or garlic. They are about a 5-7 min walk from the Capital One Arena. So, it is best to make reservations just in case you are trying to dine here when there is an event at Capital One. It gets crowded! Notable is the service. Our server was super friendly and. attentive. He made some very good recommendations, to include a glass of champagne that enhanced the meal.

Was pleased to see that the restaurant is still around (and super busy). No reservations, but we were lucky enough that there were enough seats at the bar, otherwise I don't think we would've been able to eat here at all. So hard to choose from a menu where everything sounded so good. We got the palak chaat, bhindi ka lonj, gobhi mattar, mint paratha, vegetable pulao, gujarati lasagne, and chili and olive oil naan. Standouts were the palak chaat and mint paratha. The palak chaat was the most well-balanced dish that satisfied every part of the flavor wheel: crispy spinach fritters, some tang from the yogurt and tamarind, sweetness from the date, and a lovely savoriness. The mint paratha was wonderfully flaky and herbaceous. The other dishes were good, but not particularly exciting. For desserts, we had the mango rasmalai and gulab jamun. Generally love ordering gulab jamun whenever I can, and it really hit the spot. The cardamom ice cream was the perfect pairing for it. I can kind of see where they were going with the mango rasmalai and the different textures/presenations of mango, but personally did not find it to be that memorable. Overall, not as mind-blowing as I remember but still enjoyed the meal. Definitely recommend making reservations if you want a table.

I do think this review could be beneficial for others with a number of severe food allergies, but I want to be clear about how the restaurant tried to rectify the situation because my bad experience wouldn't necessarily reflect the experience of others. The reservation site requires you to input any allergies ahead of time so that they can accommodate you. I've used this many times before at other restaurants and never had an issue. In my experience, restaurants will be prepared with the allergy ticket at arrival. I have also eaten at numerous Indian restaurants before without issue, and I had a friend with me who had suggested this place because Indian restaurants are usually accommodating, in their experience. When I sat down at our table and mentioned my allergies, the waiter immediately said that I chose the wrong restaurant. This struck me as quite rude, and I was shocked because I have eaten at so many restaurants in my life and have never been told that. It left a bad taste in my mouth, but we continued to try to work something out. They were unaware of my allergens, so they went to print the allergen ticket and discuss with the chef. When they returned, they pointed to 2 items on the menu. Both of those had my worst allergens in them. At this point I was starting to get concerned for my safety if I were to eat what they prepared. After identifying those allergens on the pre-written reservation ticket, they spoke with the chef again and said they could make a dish from scratch. To be fair, they were doing their due diligence to rectify the issue, however, at this point I was concerned about the attitude toward my allergies and their mistake in suggesting what would be safe to eat. We decided to leave and went to Chef Geoff's down the street. I recommend you compare my experiences at these two restaurants if you have food allergies. Overall I was honestly shocked and mortified because I have never had an issue like this at any restaurant in my entire allergy-ridden life.
