I'm so Happy that this Kauai Ace Hardware & Crafts store was just down the street from where I was working in Lihue. I swear, this store used to be like a Ben Franklin store over 20 years ago, but I can clearly see it's now a hardware/craft store. I basically came in here to buy some batteries for a combo lock I was working on, as the safe combo lock needed some new batteries. I was in a rush as I was pressed for time, and I had asked my customer on - "where was the closest store" from this bank I was working at? My customer told me that there was an Ace Hardware/ Craft store just down the street from where I was working....... cool! Drove down the street & popped into the store. It was kinda overwhelming when I walked into the store, as this store was big and carried a lot of items. While looking through the isles, looking for the batteries, I guess a clerk (working on the floor) noticed that I needed some help. He walked up to me and offered his assistance, I in turn told him what I came in here for. He quickly led me to the spot where they had this large battery display.......all the batteries I needed. What great customer service I tell you! Grabbed all the batteries I needed, & made a beeline to the checkout stand. Paid for my stuff, and headed straight out the door lickity-split! What a great shopping experience! I think the next time I have more time, I'll stop by here again to check out their tool selection. read more

It must be the Aloha, because, given my two data points, the Ace hardware stores on Hawaiian islands have outstanding customer service! I got to them to pickup camp stove fuel canisters. (Protip: if you're doing the Kalalau, it's highly unlikely you'll need more than one. There was an "Aloha Table" out there with 15+ canisters, many barely used.) They always direct me to the right spot, with a smile. read more

I do love the feeling of a local mom / pop hardware store. Of course it's not literally mom and pop. But it has that local Kauai charm that the mega large brick and motars do not. And for my needs, Ace is perfect! And they offer a large arts and crafts section which Home Depot does not offer. When you want to find something and not walk a marathon, go to Ace. I've been going there with my dad when I was a kid, and it's still going strong! It's been part of our Kauai culture for several decades. read more

Best hardware store on the island! You can find pretty much anything you're looking for and if you can't find it, their incredibly helpful staff will help you find exactly what you're looking for! Love it when EVERYONE greets you when you come through their doors! There is another much bigger hardware store right across town; you'd be hard pressed to find anyone willing to help you find what you're looking for! I was at this Ace today to check out their fishing supplies. I was amazed they carry good brands of fishing poles like Shakespeare, Okuma, Ugly Stick etc. Shakespeare has a pink fishing rod and reel set but it's not for bigger fish. Their poles are cheaper than the fishing supply store in Lihue. I was looking for a particular item but they don't carry it. A pink fishing bell. They even carry hammer bombs. Wow. read more

What can I say the best customer service ever was done here today. Vicky was amazing an very knowledgeable of where everything was as well as also assisted us in what we was looking for and also suggested other things to buy that went along with what we had as well as told us some great recommendations of other products that they had on sale and needs to say we brought that as well. I don't understand why most of the views I've read are raving about how great this place is, but only give them 4 stars!!! This store has the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE on this island in my opinion. The entire team here is always super friendly and helpful. Even my kids have made comments about how nice and helpful the staff is... One of the few places on-island that sells (what we're hoping are) MSR-compatible stove canisters*. Super helpful and friendly staff. Added bonus of being both a hardware and craft supply store. Reminds me of Fredericksen's in San Francisco. * Technically, I'm not sure if the canisters sold are MSR: "MSR IsoPro is a performance-boosting, 80/20 blend of isobutane and propane, with the purest isobutane (5% or less n-butane) of any canister fuel. I like to watercolor when I'm on vacation. I pack a watercolor travel kit - but, I have been painting more on this trip than in the past; and started to run low on my watercolor paper. A quick search online, discovered that Ace Hardware in Lihue was a 'deluxe' Ace and had a good crafts section. Got my husband to stop by (what a guy), and he patiently waited while I cruised the craft aisles. I thought at the end, yes, it could be possible for me to stay longer on Kauai (he wants to eventually stay a month @ visit). :) read more

Ace is the place you go if you wanna get in touch with your crafty side. And if you can't find the other stuff at Walmart. Yes, they have so much more to offer, but they are definitely pricier. They have lots of variety in beads, stamps, silk flowers, boxes, paints, etc. They sell also stuff for home improvement like shelves, DIY book shelves, screws, tapes, glues, etc. The stuff that is on clearance is all the way to the left in the back. They don't have some good sales as well. There is also glass lockers in front of the store with hand made local items like flower clips for you hair, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. read more

This is your run of the mills Ace hardware store... BUT they also sell craft supplies and home decorations too. First time I came into the store was last november to make a quick stop to buy a bucket and a mop. Little did I know I ended up spending almost 2 hours here! I have never seen an Ace that sells beads, yarn, stickers, floral arrangement supplies and best of all Hello Kitty, ever before. I spent the first hour just browsing through those aisles and then another hour looking for christmas decorations and ideas because the christmas displays in the middle of the store was just amazing. This may possibly be the best place to look for christmas ornaments, ribbons, wraps and anything else your crafty little mind can come up with. My only gripe is that what should have been a $30 dollar trip ended up being a $300 dollar trip so beware folks! I am giving you a fair warning. Prices for craft supplies are fair since I don't know any other place that sells this kind of stuff however prices on regular hardware and paint is a little bit expensive. You can definitely find it cheaper at Walmart if they carry it. Overall I feel that this Ace may actually carry more items geared towards women and family rather than men looking to do a hands on building project or renovation. I don't usually get a big thrill out of hardware stores, but I have to say, the Lihue Ace is pretty fabulous!... I am impressed with the customer service at this location. Not only did the staff help us find what we needed (and with a great attitude), but multiple employees checked to see if we needed help. This store also has a small selection of pretty nice wooden furniture (futons, tv. stands, night stands, etc) and their craft section is great! I'm a big fan! read more

This was a great location and a perfect store that has everything you need while on vacation. I wish they had more selection for oil painters though like Gamsol, and boards and papert to paint on. I went in looking for frames which they did not have either. Lots of artists on the island and nowhere to go for frames. read more

This place has been here for years and hasn't changed since I left. I mean I can pretty much find what I need because I know that it'll be there. There are actual employees on the floor that are available to assist you if needed so that's nice. My only complaint is that some things are a little on the pricier side but that's just that way it goes on an island where everything needs to be imported. read more

I have been going to this store for years, however, after two bad experiences will never set foot in it again. The first time in December I purchased $50 worth of merchandise. One of these items I had to return, as it was the wrong size. The cashier argued with me that the item was not on my bill. I had to point out the item to her on the bill and she then proceeded to issue a refund of $20.03. I had picked up some additional items to buy and handed her a $5 coupon to apply to the purchase. She said, "Oh no, come back tomorrow." I asked her why and said that I was not going to be coming in tomorrow. She never explained why and again told me to "come back tomorrow". The only reason I can think of is pure laziness. 18 days later I was in the store and made another purchase. I used the $5 coupon at this time with a different cashier, with no problems. One of these items I had to later return (Dec. 28) as it was defective. This time I had the same cashier who initially refused to take the $5 coupon. The item I was returning was for $13.74 (total on the bill was over $20 purchase). She informed me that she was going to subtract the $5 coupon and give me $9.10. I told her this was not right and asked to speak to a manager. The supervisor who came just stared at the bill and never said one word. As I was now very upset, I told them to just give me the refund less the $5 coupon and I would never shop in their store again. She issued me the $9.10. When I left the store I told the supervisor that I had also just spent close to $400 there purchasing some window screens and that this was not right. He still never said one word to me, just looked at me and smirked. Very professional Ace! read more
