Banana Split feels vintage because it IS vintage. It's a tiny ice cream shop in Aurora, tucked away in a subdivision. Until I searched on Yelp, I didn't even know this place existed. We took our treats to the park across the street. There is no seating, and to order you walk-up to the outdoor counter, so a visit here is best when the weather is nice. The menu is lengthy - soft serve, sundaes, banana splits, flurries, etc. I had a vanilla soft serve in a homemade waffle cone with the "crunch" sprinkle topping. This place is really similar to Deri Delite, where you can get the same enormous vanilla waffle cone, but with better surroundings. Prices are reasonable, and they accept credit and debit. read more

Great locally owned mom and pop ice cream stand. They are only open about half the year, so get it while you can! Their banana splits are delicious, just like the old-fashioned ones from when you were a kid, three scoops of ice cream, multiple toppings, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on top. My favorite, however, is their chocolate malts. I wouldn't have a problem ordering one every day, if I weren't worried about getting thick around the middle! I've never had a banana split here. I probably should. Love the fact that they have (delicious) strawberry soft serve. If you're a fatty like me, you can get a GINORMOUS flurry made how you want it. Banana Split is an Aurora summertime staple. The ice cream is of good quality and never tastes old or freezer burnt. You'll find the prices on target for the most part, with some being a little higher than others. Now, just like most small walk up type ice cream shops, you'll find a lot of younger people working. But, they seem to be enjoying their job and taking pride in the service they're providing. They aren't crabby or inept, and I respect that about them. They offer free Dogwich ice cream sandwiches when you bring 'em along (ONLY if you bring 'em along) and the dogs go BANANAS for them. BANANAS! I've personally had several selections, including the GROANER. Everything has always been delicious. Although often busy, they've never been overwhelmed when I've visited. The only thing I would change is that there's no where to sit and eat. I think I've seen a picnic bench there before, but it doesn't seem to always be out. Maybe squeezing a few tables or benches in would be a big positive. I've been, I'd recommend, and I'll be back! read more

I would give it a 3 stars but hasn't earned it to me. that was the old banana split when i was growing up. Now a days the owners only work the day time but at night (those summer nights are the best time for ice cream) they leave the business to kids (college to highschool) and they don't really care to me what it seems like. The presentation of the ice cream is bad and just the attitudes as if they don't want to be there. Was a great business but that's just my opinion. I count my blessings this place is within walking distance of my house. Their ice cream is top notch, the menu selection is super impressive. Sundaes, shakes, blizzard like concoctions, and the presentation is so cute! Their banana splits will forever be my favorite though. I've even been extra picky before and asked for one without vanilla ice cream (Isn't that just plain ice cream? Haha) they didn't even question it and we're happy to accommodate. I've never written a review on anything before but a recent negative customer experience made me want to share my story. I recently stopped by to purchase a pair of slushee floats for my brother and I. The young lady behind the window took my card, made the transaction, then proceeded to hand me my card while telling me that she had forgotten that they were currently repairing their slushee machine because it was not working properly. (A machine that a man was working on about two feet behind her..) she looks at me and proceeds to tell me that I can "just pick something that will match the total from the slushee floats". At this point I was a little unimpressed at the fact that she asked me to match my total in a situation where any other restaurant or ice cream shop would have reimbursed me, asked me to pick anything else on the menu (despite price differences), or given me a curtesy item. As a line began to form behind me and I quickly and anxiously searched the menu for something that would "match the price", the young lady tells an older woman working the other side of the window "he still doesn't make up his mind" as if putting me under pressure would help me decide faster. Since the rest of the menu consisted of ice cream treats, they were priced higher than the slushees I had ordered, so I ended up just getting my brother a peanut butter flurry. The lady seemed irritated that I said peanut butter and asked me to clarify if I wanted peanut butter, peanut butter cups, or Reese's pieces. They quickly made the flurry and... here comes the fun part; before handing it to me, in front of everyone, the older lady walks to the window and tells me that I ended up owing them 6 cents, BUT she was going to let it go and "CALL IT EVEN" because the slushee machine wasn't working...... call it even..... six cents........ I was honestly taken so aback by the fact that she pointed out that I owed them six cents after they charged me for a product they couldn't give me that I've been doing everything I can to spread the word about how that place runs its business. Sucks it's a small owned business and there's no corporate to call. I was so embarrassed and the way they handled a situation that was already a mistake on their part was completely unprofessional. So in conclusion, Deri Delite is the superior ice cream shop in Aurora. That is all. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. read more

A quick Yelp search led me to this place about a mile away. Banana Split is a tiny little walk up window only ice cream shop in the middle of a neighborhood. There are about 5 parking spots and there are no tables or anything. However, right across the street is a really nice park with a playground and picnic tables. This is soft serve ice cream, I think only chocolate and vanilla. They have some really cool toppings and pre-made ice cream treats. The prices are really good, especially considering the portion sizes. I got a medium imitation blizzard and it was at least twice as big as a Dairy Queen Blizzard, but at about the same price. If you are in the area and it's a nice day, grab some ice cream here and head across the street to the park. read more
