The bags can be washed in the washing machine and she does have a policy that if your bag needs repair you can send it back to her and she will fix it for no charge! Pretty cool huh? I purchased my first bag from her and loved it so much that I am having her make me a custom bag. They are sturdy as heck and easy to fold up and store. A long time ago this shop was just another generic hippie new age incense rock shop that sold ugly hippie clothing..and those are a dime a dozen. If that's a kind of shop you prefer, then unfortunately there's a store just like that across from this one. Now this store.. it's magical.. and dazzling..! They still have cool rocks and fossils, but girls behind the counter are so knowledgeable about the origins, meanings, and uses for each stone. They still sell clothes, but it's stylish clothes that are fair trade! Pretty clothes that don't make you look like you fell off a gypsy caravan haha. The back of the store they turned into a wonderful gallery space, with handmade watercolors and oil paintings. They're even creating amazing wire wrapped jewelry! One of the girls does amazing things with very old vintage keys! Everything is locally made! Oh! and they sell seashells! There was a store in Rockport with the flirty seashell captain, but he closed. One of these young ladies worked for him and decided to bring in the same quality shells he had. Theres a silver jewelry down the street who also sells the same exact shells.. but cost 5 times more.. ridiculous! Also.. for those ignorant customers.. This store has had the same owner for a while now, he just had the smarts to let these wonderful artists change up the look of the store to set them apart from those other stores. There was no paperwork regarding what he said the weight was nor a print report from the smelter, which I asked for. I expected to get the gold back in some form, but he said no and paid me the price I initially paid for it ten years ago. The ounce price is double as of today. My income is way below average, I could have used the spot price for my gold. Many times I've considered if he cheated me and I'm a fool, he did.

When It came time to pick up the rings, the owner had taken my great-grandmother's ring and actually RE-SIZED it and polished it (totally destroying the ring for me and leaving me heart-broken.) He insisted that he only polished it but it was 2 sizes larger! The ring he produced for my husband looked like a cheap store-bought gold band that could have been bought anywhere. I demanded my $500 back for the gold I brought in, which he begrudgingly refunded. I left the store in tears and in an extreme state of anguish.

All clothes and shoes that were in decent condition, regardless of brand name were in the boutique section for $20 or more- the section formerly reserved for high end clothes only. I feel this does a great disservice to the community Bootstraps claims to serve- those in need. The community they serve also need clothes in decent condition for work- the new set up makes this unfeasible. The jewelry and housewares are also overpriced for the quality. Though I understand fully the need for revenue to keep the store alive, I think the current approach is off base for the mission of the company.
