My family riding some cool horses

This place is incredible, first off the people are why southerners are known as so nice, they cook breakfast over a fire at the crack of dawn with sodas, coffee and oj for the entire family, the actual experience is AMAZING incredible views and knowledgeable host to tell you about your surroundings, not only that but the horses don't look like they haven't slept in three months, they are actually well maintained unlike some other places, at the end this absolute chad of a man sits on a stump and plays you some banger cowboy songs, lets you feed cows, and teaches you how to lasso whilst his co worker/wife??? (I ship it) cooks you some authentic Texan briskets and mediocre eggs, the only bad part about this entire experience, overall if you want a stress free day riding horses and living a real southern Texans lifestyle in the cowboy capital of the country, this is the way to go

    Ready to ride!

From start to finish, we thoroughly enjoyed our excursion. Harriet, the owner, was warm, welcoming, and immediately put us at ease. Neither me nor my wife have had any real experience on a horse, but after this experience, we would definitely do it again :-)

    Just a relaxing ride.

Visiting the area, booked a ride. Very easy to set up. Staff was helpful with our questions and concerns. Our guide, Tom, was great. He was patient and helpful. In a few minutes he showed us what we needed to know. There were no problems with the horses and they responded to commands. Tom took photos of us during the ride.

If you want hire back riding in TX with an authentic feel, these are your people and place! I went with a group of girlfriends of all skills level (advanced to never being around a horse) and the sunset ride we went on left everyone wanting more. All the horses are amazing and riding through the state park really gave that TX vibe. Our trail leaders were truly amazing with all of us, telling us about the horses and the lands along the way. You could easily see their passion for the work they do. I can't recommend them enough! Already planning a trip back!

When in Bandera, Cowboy Capital of the World, you have to ride some horses! We had a great ride with Smiley and Frosty on the one hour Medina River Ride. During our ride our guide gave us lots of info. on the area and were very friendly. They also took a lot of pictures of us and sent them to us afterwards. They have lots of different options to ride in different locations and lengths, so you can pick the ride you want! They matched us to different horses based off our skill levels. The horses were beautiful, well mannered, and are clearly loved and taken well care of. The horses are equipped with saddle bags that are easily accessible so you can put some water or you phone/personal belongings in during your ride. Definitely support Tom and Harriet and their awesome horses.

Bandera Texas!!! Hannah and Harrieth, helped my mother and I check off a wish on our bucketlist. Thank you for the memories at the Capital Cowboy of Texas!!! Looking forward to riding again. Thank you for making our dreams come true.

We had an absolute blast staying at the ranch and riding horses with Harrieth. She was so great in teaching us horsemanship from the ground up. She also has such a great relationship with all of the animals there. The horses were awesome. Baron, Eddy, Rooster, and Smiley... they were all so great! This was one of the best trips my wife and I have ever taken. Thank you so much for the great memories!

Amazing ride in the Texas Hill Country. With Harriet as our guide & horse whisperer, we novice riders were able to enjoy ourselves with an exciting and beautiful sunset ride. The horses are wonderful. I just can't say enough about Bandera Historical Rides! Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful ride along the river with Hannah. I rode a mule and my boyfriend rode a Belgian, both very solid, good minded mounts. Horses are well cared for and enjoy their jobs. Boyfriend has not ridden before and was in good hands! Rode in the river, so fun! Highly recommend, next we'll do the bar ride.

    Slow and steady!

We had a fabulous time on their river ride tour. Our cowboy was very patient with us being beginners and all. Wish we could book again, but time won't allow us to re visit. Can't say enough great things about our experience! Come check them out!

As a solo traveler visiting the USA for the first time, I had a million questions -- and they patiently answered every single one. By the time I drove up their long, dusty road and caught sight of the charming ranch buildings and heard my first distant neigh, a wave of peace washed over me. I knew I had found something special. My warm welcome included a map to my cabin... which I promptly misread (I have many talents, but navigation is *not* one of them). Thankfully, the wonderful Lisa appeared like a real-life cowboy guardian angel and personally guided me to my cozy cabin. First impression? Spotless. Cool. Authentically Texan. I actually said "wow" out loud -- to no one -- like I was in a commercial. As a true animal lover, I was thrilled to see how well the horses were treated. Guests are encouraged to help groom them, and the wranglers always explain *why* certain things are done -- it's all about respect and care. Whether you're a total beginner or basically Clint Eastwood, they tailor the experience to *you*. Now meet the dream team: Travis, Dawn, Trey, and Cora. Travis and Dawn are the talkers, the entertainers -- always in for a laugh, teasing and challenging each other like true cowboy siblings. Their banter is pure gold, and somehow still leaves space for heartfelt guidance and genuine connection. Trey? He's the quiet cowboy with that dry, perfectly timed humor. When he speaks, you listen -- and when he drops a one-liner, it *lands*. He's got that silent strength vibe going on, and it works. Cora, with her calm and grounding energy, is the soul of serenity. When things get rowdy (and they do), she's the one who gently reins it all in -- the horses love her, and so do the guests. Her presence is like a deep exhale after a long ride. The wranglers feel like a tight-knit family, and you quickly feel part of it. Meals are homey, healthy, and announced by a big ol' bell you'll hear all over the ranch. You'll come running like one of the horses when you hear it. There's always water, coffee, tea, and refreshing drinks during meals, plus your cabin comes with a mini fridge for your own snacks. (The nearest supermarket is about 20 minutes away, but honestly, you won't want to leave.) Between the twice-daily rides, you'll learn to rope like a cowboy, roast smores by the fire, meet the longhorns on a hay ride, or just float in the pristine pool with the sun on your face. My personal favorite spot? A hammock near the dining hall, country music in my ears, goats chilling behind me -- pure bliss. Special shoutout to Miss Katie for the extra riding lessons (worth every penny). The trails are walk-only for safety and horse care, but even as an experienced rider, I never felt bored. They even arranged a more challenging ride when things were quiet -- and let me tell you, there's nothing like the sound of hooves and the warm wind in your ears to remind you you're *alive*. I originally booked one night... I stayed four. The only downside of Rancho Cortez is having to leave. To anyone reading this: whether you're looking for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure or a peaceful place to recharge -- book it. Go. Make memories. Laugh at yourself. Ride a horse. Roast a marshmallow. And let your heart be hugged by the spirit of this magical ranch. Thank you, Rancho Cortez. You deserve every star in the Texas sky. Wendy from Belgium

Mr. Cortez was the ultimate highlight, a true old school Cowboy with that humor of his. He made my family feel right at home, even sat with them at lunch and hilarious conversation. Surprisingly, reading a couple of the negative reviews are taken WAY out of context and no offense to anyone, but it seems like liberals have a problem with the ranch. Here's a big one for instance, as a woman I felt welcomed and not threatened by safety issues. If you are super sensitive with your feelings just stay at home; Cowboys tell it like it is and that's with any Cowboy ranch. Overall, my nieces and nephew had an amazing family day. It was my nephews birthday. His favorite was roping and sure enough, after his visit with the ranch he now wants a rope to practice with! Thanks again for your mentorship and guidance Mr. Cortez. I'll be sure to have my nephew visit again to show you his roping progress!

This did make it more expensive, but for us it was worth it...We have been able to feed many giraffes, but never have met a rhino up close and my grandson loved being able to brush them and touch them.. I was very impressed with their setup and how many babies they have.. I would recommend getting their early...The tour was a wednesday at 930 and we only had one other car on the road with us....when I drove back through , there was a lot of car stoppage , cause of course every car wants to stop for every group of animals and I will say the group at the entrance gate holds you for ranson so you better have food for them so you can get thru.. Didn't try the food , but the fudge at the restaurant was really good. The only thing I was disappointed in was the avairy...If you just want to see a lot of beautiful budgies and a few chickens, then go for it, but they had no interest in the food sticks and just flew away from it for the most part...We are used to the lorikeets that land on you, so my grandson was just bored with it...

First, I was a tad disappointed in the quantity of the animals out there. There were long stretches of the drive where I caught myself thinking, " there's nothing out here". Second, don't bother buying feed. A lot of the animals were more interested in food provided in their troughs than the passing vehicles. And, I have a feeling they're fed well enough ...they don't care if you're throwing food. Third, cars tend to bottleneck to look at NOTHING. I think the staff should do a better job explaining you can pass. At least I hope you can, because I did. I wasn't waiting for some of these people. Other than that, I thought the facilities themselves were clean, well lit, and impressive. They've got a great restaurant where you can have lunch (although I felt the prices were exorbitant as they often are with these "tourist traps"). They've got some great exhibits with monkeys and you can get pretty darn close to some giraffes. My little girl had a particularly good time in the aviary. Seeing her face as that bird landed on her stick was just the best. Solid gift shop. Overall, felt the cost was higher than necessary, but solid family outing. It's worth going.

It's pretty much a straight drive. It quite a ways down the road but just keep going you'll get there. The owners were so friendly. It's really refreshing when the owners come over to your table and really talk to you. They asked us how we heard out their restaurant, where were we from, gave us food recommendations, and were so sweet. Everything served is 100% made from scratch including their famous sourdough bread. The eggs are from their own chickens and the bacon & sausage comes from their own pigs and it was a just fabulous!!! You have to order the bacon...to die for!! I never really order anything to drink besides OJ at breakfast but for some reason I decided to try their grapefruit juice. OMG!!! I've never in my life had anything like that juice!! It was some special type of grapefruit but I can't remember the name of them. It was fresh squeezed & unbelievable. I could've just had a few more glasses of that and been happy lol. It was a deep yellowy-orange, almost the color of OJ. My hubby & I ordered almost the same thing, french toast (made from their homemade sourdough bread), topped with fresh fruit, 2 eggs (mine scrambled, his over easy), I had bacon, he had the sausage crumbles. Holy Moly!!! Just deliciousness all around!!! We bought a round loaf of jalapeño cheddar sourdough to take home and not only was it delicious but it was enormous! If I could make just one suggestion it would be: I did not like the restroom situation. There is only 1 restroom, which is perfectly fine, but there are 2 stalls inside. While I was in 1 stall a man came in and was using the stall next to me. I felt very uncomfortable. Maybe put a lock on the main door so that nobody else can come inside while you're in there??? But other than that we had a fantastic experience. I highly recommend going there if you love great food. Next time we'd like to try lunch or dinner.
