What an experience! I try to go horseback riding on every vacation. This place is the best yet! We went for the cowboy breakfast. It was amazing. 1st the horses are beautiful and so well maintained! What a fantastic time we had. This was my 3rd time going on out to Bandera Historical Rides. This time I invited my friends family to join us. They had so much fun and enjoyed the trailride. Beautiful trails. Riding into town for breakfast and going along the Medina River. They especially love taking a horses in the water. The entire staff did a great job including us and making us feel at home during our experience. We also stayed overnight in the cabin and got the chance to explore the beautiful property and relax during our downtime. This place is incredible, first off the people are why southerners are known as so nice, they cook breakfast over a fire at the crack of dawn with sodas, coffee and oj for the entire family, the actual experience is AMAZING incredible views and knowledgeable host to tell you about your surroundings, not only that but the horses don't look like they haven't slept in three months, they are actually well maintained unlike some other places, at the end this absolute chad of a man sits on a stump and plays you some banger cowboy songs, lets you feed cows, and teaches you how to lasso whilst his co worker/wife??? (I ship it) cooks you some authentic Texan briskets and mediocre eggs, the only bad part about this entire experience, overall if you want a stress free day riding horses and living a real southern Texans lifestyle in the cowboy capital of the country, this is the way to go read more

This was our second time riding with BHR. Great pre ride communication and check-in experience. We have now ridden with one of the owners and a trail guide - both were top notch. They really care for their horses well - I especially love their rescues. We rode at Hill Country Natural Area. Challenging and beautiful ride. They adjust the ride based on the rider's experience. These are either private or near private rides. Definitely not the usual 15 rider "tail to nose" ride a lot of outfitters run. Next time, we'll do the ride in town that ends with a beer. When in Bandera, Cowboy Capital of the World, you have to ride some horses! We had a great ride with Smiley and Frosty on the one hour Medina River Ride. During our ride our guide gave us lots of info. on the area and were very friendly. They also took a lot of pictures of us and sent them to us afterwards. They have lots of different options to ride in different locations and lengths, so you can pick the ride you want! They matched us to different horses based off our skill levels. The horses were beautiful, well mannered, and are clearly loved and taken well care of. The horses are equipped with saddle bags that are easily accessible so you can put some water or you phone/personal belongings in during your ride. My husband and I purchased this trip for my mother's 70th birthday. We chose to do the Cowboy Campout. We decided to stay at the house on Tom and Harrieths place the night before our Campout. It was super cute inside, spotless, and well stocked with all the essentials. They even had farm fresh eggs for us. There were Deer and Turkey all over the property. Very pretty. The next day we met up with Tom and followed him to the state park. The horses we were given to ride were specifically picked for each of us based on our weight, height, and experience. All of them were very gentle and well behaved.  We have visited dude ranches before, let me tell you this is not your typical dude ranch experience. Tom let us pick our pace and trails based off our comfort levels and his comfort level in our riding abilities. Everyone in our group are experienced riders so we loved the challenging routes. Tom asked us what we wanted to do and where we wanted to go. We rode up and down challenging hills and thru the woods. Tom was an excellent guide telling us all about the land and park. He made everyone on the trip feel comfortable and safe. Tom left it up to us on how much we wanted to ride, the weather was beautiful and nice and cool for us and the horses. We rode for about 4 hours in the morning to the top of breathtaking overlooks and then returned to our campsite for lunch and to prep for the night. We decided to ride about an hour in the evening to see the gorgeous sunset.  When we returned to our campsite that evening we were greeted by a nice man named Lew who sings real cowboy songs and plays the guitar. Such a wonderful surprise that Harrieth and Tom arranged. Lew sang and played songs for us as we cooked and ate dinner. This was such a beautiful touch to the experience. He was extremely nice, we learned so many interesting facts about cowboys and heard songs that none of us had heard before.  Let me tell you about these bedrolls... if you have never slept in one it's a must try. Forget the cots or air mattresses. These things are so cozy and warm. Pretty amazing, I'm spoiled now and will probably not want to camp without one.  The next morning we got up and had a yummy breakfast. Afterwards, we decided to drive over to town and ride by the river. The river was so pretty, Tom told us all about the history of the town. We even rode the horses into the Medina river up to our stirrups. Soo much fun! We decided to go into to town for a cold beer at the 11th street bar, we hitched the horses up and walked into this cool bar to wet our whistles. This whole trip was incredible. Tom seriously made it a point to do everything little thing we wished to do. Like I mentioned we didn't once feel like we needed anything or missed an opportunity to have fun.  These people love their horses too, which seriously warmed my heart. Many of the horses are rescues and to see them being loved and so well taken care was beautiful.  If you're looking for a unique horseback riding experience in Texas, one like no other you wont find one any better than this one. There were so many beautiful memories made, I could go on and on. These people know what they're doing and want your experience to be unforgettable.  We feel like we made friends in Banderra and cant wait to return to visit them again. read more

My wife and I did the 2 hour sunset ride. It was awesome. Our guide Tom was very helpful and polite. The horses behaved better than any other horse we've been around. Part of the trail was open, flat and relaxing. Other parts had more challenging terrain that was a lot of fun to ride. We will be taking our family back to ride with Bandera Historical Rides soon. During our stay at Bandera, my girlfriend and I decided to ride and called this business. We wer able to book for tomorrow. When we arrived by the river, we found out it would be only two of riding with our guide Hannah, that was a pleasant surprise to have a private tour. Hannah was a super guide. Very outgoing, polite, knowledgeable about horses and the area. She was a pleasure to ride with. She also took lots of pictures of us with her phone and shared it with us afterwards. Our horses behaved well. I was more experienced and rode Smiley. My friend was a first timer and enjoyed it a lot. Smiley got spooked a couple of times by flying frisbeys, but nothing major. Hannah promised horses will pretend they are hungry and would attempt to eat, and they did. Smiley, being such a tall horse, tried to trick me eating trees at her head level which was trickier to control, but I was able to correct her not to eat bushes by the ground. We even went into a river and that was fun. Horses were beautiful and well taken care of. I would definitely recommend this business and would be back to ride again. read more

Harriet, you are a GEM of a person, and we are so thankful to Bandera Historical for accommodating us on Christmas! We had no issues meeting up with our guide Harriet, who is just about the loveliest person you could get to know. I'm always a little wary of these tourist oriented operations because I've seen cases where the animals could be overworked and poorly treated, however I felt confident after meeting Harriet that these animals are not only treated with the greatest respect and care, but area also dearly loved by Harriet. Our horses were Habibi and Bubba, and Harriet did an excellent job helping show us the ropes. I have experience horseback riding as a child, but my husband was pretty new to it, and said he felt WAY more comfortable than previous times simply because Harriet did such a great time orienting him. Harriet had lots of history to share, and there was a good mix of town and country during our Bandera Historical tour. I'd definitely recommend this if you're in the mood for some adventure, but want to make sure you're supporting a business that also treats it's most important members well.
