I brought my cat Magnolia into Banfield in Coon Rapids on January 11th because she was vomiting. I was concerned she may have swallowed my daughter's pacifier. I specifically told the veterinarian that They exam her briefly and told me she was "fine," "in her prime" saying she was likely just stressed from having a new baby at home. However my cat has never vomited like that... No blood work or X-rays were offered, despite my concern about a possible foreign object. Well, today, almost two months later my cat began vomiting again. Instead of returning to Banfield, I took her to an urgent care veterinary clinic Access. They immediately performed X-rays and blood work, and the pacifier was clearly visible in her stomach!! My cat has had this pacifier inside her for nearly two months because Banfield dismissed my concerns and failed to perform even basic diagnostics. Meanwhile, they were happy to charge for the visit without properly investigating the issue... I am extremely disappointed and disgusted with the care we received and will never return to Banfield again. I'm from California and recently had to bring my pet in due to malaise and discomfort due to full anal glands. My visit was at the Coon Rapids Banfield and the first thing they wanted to do was administer a rabies vaccine. While my pet is due for one, I am also aware that it contraindicated and can be harmful to administer to an animal when it is visibly ill. ALL my previous vets have never given her vaccination while she was ill and in fact almost always suggested we wait until better. All I requested was that they express the anal glands as this can cause great discomfort in the pet and can even get infected. They refused to cooperate and kept insisting on vaccination of an ill animal. The medical assistant was brisk, curt and general tone was unpleasant and the manager was not particularly helpful. Any hospital that is willing to administer a vaccine when an animal is ill, with no exam AND no previous medical history is not practicing ethical medicine. Negligence like this can cause medical harm and injury to your pet. I walked out of there, and being a doctor myself, I would recommend you do the same. Although the rabies vaccine is required by law in most regions, the AVMA has recently released new guidelines that permit your veterinarian to write a note to the city stating your dog is ill and will not be given a rabies vaccine at this time. TLDR; Do not bring your pet here. Employees are rude and lazy. Worst experience I have had with a vet. I scheduled an appointment over the phone 2 weeks out for my dog to get a rabies shot. Fast forward to the date of the appointment, I did not realize the clinic was not in the PetSmart, so I arrived at PetSmart 10 minutes before my appointment. I know this was my fault for not checking before hand. I called the clinic to see if we could still get in, and they told me if I arrived within 10 minutes of my scheduled appointment they could fit us in. So I headed over and arrived 5 minutes after my scheduled appointment. There were 6 employees at the desk, and 5 of them were helping other guests, and the last one was sitting at the computer, so I waited. I said hi just to make sure they knew I was there. I got a nod and then the lady continued looking at the computer. I waited 10 minutes for her to finish what she was doing, and when she looked up she seemed to be in a very bad mood. I started to check in my dog, and then she said since I was late I would have to reschedule. I explained the situation and asked her if they could make an exception since they told me on the phone they could still get me in. She then went into the back room for maybe 20 seconds (clearly not enough time to actually talk to anyone) and came back and said there was nothing she could do. Her attitude was so rude the entire time. I then explained how they cost me money since I had to take off work to make the only appointment they had. She told me to be on time next time. Well, there won't be a next time. It would be one thing if she was professional about the whole situation, but she was so rude, I will never be back. read more

My wife and I had our little girl spayed on December 14 2021. While the surgery seems to have gone fine, I do have a serious complaint. When my wife picked up Bindi she was emotional seeing our girl in pain and drugged up. While in this emotional state, the staff took total advantage of my wife and charged us an extra $30 for a " Special Medic Safety Device" , a safety cone, on top of the "Yearly Wellness Package " we had prepaid for. Highway robbery!! On top of charging us for a product we NEVER used. They sent her home with a nasty, chewed, and scratched up plastic cone. Then, added to that, it was tied around her neck with some old torn and shredded piece of cloth! Terrible!! 30 dollars per surgery at a thousand locations!! WHAT A RACKET!!! I'd give this 0 stars if I could. I didn't even meet the doctor who my dog seen. All they did is call me when I was sitting in the waiting room to tell me what they did. The next day, my dog wasn't feeling well so I called right away in the morning and they td me someone would call me back. I waited hours and never heard anything back, I called back again and they told me doctor would call me back. I'm now on day 3 and still haven't heard anything. If I could I would never go back but they talked me into buying the puppy package. Very upsetting. read more

I brought my elderly cat here and was very unimpressed with how uncompassionate they were. The person that brought me into the room just went on about how I wanted to pay. They also reluctantly discounted my exam after I asked about a reduced fee that they had written on a brochure in my exam room. I also inquired on if they could talk to my vet in another state who has been treating my cat for $16 years. They said that would cost me as it was taking time from the vet. I figured it might save them some time. Thank God my other vet said that was ridiculous and he wouldn't charge me. Luckily I usually visit the vet in another state where they are very passionate. These 3 stars are ALL for Dr Melling. She is the most thorough, compassionate, understanding, patient vet. She has gone above and beyond her normal duties to ensure my cat always got the best of care. She even helped us with paperwork to move our cat overseas, which, if you've never experienced it, is time consuming and stressful! I like to be FULLY informed, and she always takes the extra time to explain things to me. After my cat needed a dental extraction she called me at home to answer follow up questions. She deserves 5 stars on her own!! The missing stars are for poor office staff and techs who don't seem to be very knowledgeable. I've left messages with front desk staff that weren't relayed to the Doctor, and asked the techs questions they couldn't answer. And that would be ok, if their response was - I'm not sure, I'll ask the Dr and someone will get back to you. Instead I was just left wondering. read more

Brought my Cat in (7 years old) spent over $1000 for tests and services.. They could not find out what is wrong with him. I think they talk you into the monthly plan to make money. I feel they did unnecessary tests, to make you sign up for the plan, but didn't do the tests he really needed. I only went here because their office visit was cheaper than Pine ridge, which I should have gone to. NEVER again.I didn't feel they cared about my cat, it was do all these tests, well if you do these tests sign up for the care plan. They couldn't find out what was wrong with him. He passed away and I am still paying for his treatment. I will NEVER go to them again! They are not a real pet hospital! read more

Do Not bring your pets to Banfield. I started bringing our new puppy to the Coon Rapids Banfield because it was our first pet and I hadn't researched it enough. Well right away they insist you start on this "Wellness Plan" ($32 a month) claiming it is much cheaper in the long run. Well... it is not. the Wellness Plan doesn't really cover anything, and each visit I ended up spending another $100+ anyway. I started noticing that my dogs veterinarian changed each visit because they were constantly leaving for another clinic. That was annoying but I put up with it. Then my dog developed and ear issue that, after 3 visits and many dollars, they could not figure out what it was. I brought him to a another vet across town and they were much more caring and figured it out right away. Well, apparently, this so called Wellness Plan renewed automatically and Banfield now sent me a letter saying I owe them for missed Wellness Plan payments for the last 2 months. (this was my first notice. I assumed they cancelled my plan when I said I was no longer going to take my dog there) I called the Coon Rapids office and explained I wanted this plan cancelled, they said I had to call the Corporate office, I did and they said I had to call the local office. I reluctantly did and they then said I have to call the corporate office and that this contract can't be cancelled until February when the contact is set for renewal. I am appalled that they expect me to pay each month knowing I now use a different veterinarian. read more

Very disappointed with how I was treated with this company. To be clear, I never went in for an actual exam for my pet. I had tried to set up an exam several times to be told they don't have available time. I scheduled an appointment online on Monday and didn't hear back from anyone saying this time wasn't available so I assumed my time slot was set and filled paperwork out. Thank goodness I called this morning to confirm my appointment- after 7 call attempts, 3 times being hung up on and a 20 minute wait on the phone with Banfield, I hung up and called the Petsmart that Banfield is in and they walked over and asked the pet hospital for me. Long story short, I will not be patronizing this business; very poor costumer service. read more

My dog had lime's disease, the Dr. gave us a 14 day supply of anti-biotics to treat him. It is now a FULL year later, and our dog just tested positive (at a different clinic) for limes. The Doctor of this clinic told us that they should have at the MINIMUM gave us a 30 day supply of anti-biotics. We even went back in to Banfield after his regimen was up and they assured us he would be ok. Save your $, and more importantly, SAVE YOUR PET and DO NOT GO HERE! read more

I have been going to this Banfield for a few years and have had 'indifferent' experiences UNTIL we met the most awesome, (get down on the floor and love em Vet) - and now that Dr. Melling is my girlls vet - I don't believe I've EVER had a more caring and competant vet experience. We are on one of the Wellness Plans that cover 2 full physicals per year with one of them having a Dental Exam and Cleaning - for us, it is well worth the cost of like 35$ a month to be able to have unlimited visits - and have the physicals and shots covered. I don't believe it's possible to please 100% of the people 100% of the time - and let's face it - when our Furbabies are ill - we are selves are NOT behaving or perceiving things in the right light. But not taking anything away from the other ladies who complained---- it is likely the 'push' to get your pet on a PLAN was 'part of the rooming techs job' as well as , a good thought process for animals that will be experiencing MORE vet visits as they age. Vet Hospitals (just like People Hospitals) are a business. It just so happens that some folks are ANGELS who choose to help and heal pets and people - and some are not well suited for the job. That's life and that's the same for EVERY profession out there. I can and do recommend Dr. Melling at the Coon Rapids Banfield pet hospital- I think if your willing to go willy nilly all over because it's "cheaper" takes away some of the validity of a complaint. Find a place where your pet is comfortable - - that's 1/2 the battle to having a healthy pet in the first place. read more

My pup dog passed away, so a few months later I closed the account his wellness plan payments were paid from. I just received a notice from a collection agency for almost $300! I took my pet to Banfield his whole life, 15 years, but they would not reverse all of the charges for the time after he passed away. I wouldn't recommend Banfield's plan to anyone. They act like they're so concerned with you and your pet, but really it's just about the money for them. read more

Banfield Coon Rapids is the worst. I have been going there for about 10 years. Always long, long, long, long, long waits. They diagnosed my dog with cancer. That was two years ago. He doesn't have cancer. He's still alive and doing great. I think they lie to you in order to get you to spend money. I quit my plan (after thet put me on hold 45 minutes) but they kept charging my credit card. I had to cancel my credit card because of Banfield Coon Rapids dishonesty. Still today they are trying to get money from me for nothing. I will be complaining to the state shortly. read more

Terrible place for your pets. My dog started having seizures every couple weeks after started bringing him here. They told me not to worry since it wasn't happening. Also, one of my dogs always had something wrong with them every time I brought them here. It was never the same dog, but whatever one wasn't sick the last time. They just keep rotating every visit. I asked the vet why this is and she had no answer other then "that is what the tests say". So the payments monthly was pointless as I had to pay 400 each visit every 4-6 months which ended up more then their previous vet. They haven't been back there in over 6 months and my dog that had the seizures, hasn't had one since he had one a week after going to Banfield. I will never return my dogs here and its a huge waste of money. Take your animals to a local respectable vet. These people and company are a joke and disgrace. They shouldn't have license. Maybe I think too logical for the answers I get sometimes. I went in today to reschedule my dogs appointment to recheck his ear. I asked as my vet told me to do to get some more drops for his ears so I could continue until she could see him. My vet was not there today and they said no to the drops as you don't want to be putting drops in if the ear is healthy. That made sense until I thought about it from the stand point of what after a week of the of the two week wait until his recheck the ear was void of the infection dose that mean I damaged his ear by applying the second week? The other thing that has started to bother me is you drop your pets off then pick them not seeing the vet and when you pick them up the vet might go over the results but how do you know the vet really was the one you treated your pet. I have been going here for a few years and each visit it seems you see the vet less and less and their assistants do most of the work where you are with the pets are they also doing things behind the scenes they have not been certified to do yet. They offer Wellness plans at a discounted rate, free office visits, DON'T BE FOOLED. Dog has a sore leg, they charge $70+ for an evaluation, other vets, this is included in the office visit fee. They put together an estimate for a 10 year old, un-spade, dog with many mamory lumps and in poor health. Glad I got a second opinion, they would have literally killed her. Cat with a history of uti's, treated by another vet, brough there because other vet is closed on weekend. Came up with a $600.00 plan to see what's wrong! That included the hospital fee, leaving the pet there, in case they couldn't blood work/urine tests right the first time. I couldn't even preceed with part of the treatment, all or nothing. Vets don't do this stuff, corporations do. Vets help with the real issues because the love animals, Banfield "vets" only follow corporate guide lines. I took my westie in for an ear infection a week go. i had tried this location a couple of years ago and thought that they might have changed for the better. Nope, it was a Friday afternoon and my options for another vet in the area were not good. First thing they do is give you a list of all the possible tests and fees that it would take just to get to a treatment plan. The hospital/ward fee of $32.37 I protested. I told them I would just hold my dog myself while he was in between tests. They told me that the exam rooms have to be kept open for next appointments, and keeping my dog in the back with them enables them to better access him when they are ready for the next test. One hour later I went back to get my dog. They added a prescription for pain that was over $20.00 at which time I told them I would treat my own dog for pain. The vets assistant told me three times not to give over the counter pain relievers and also sent the vet out to talk to me. Then when I get home I find an internet paper they pulled off a website about ibuprofen toxicity to dogs. This Banfield makes you feel that you are in a production line and adds fees and tests that are not needed in my opinion. This appointment cost me more than an ear infection appt I have taken my son to. read more
