Sandy I.

THERE HAS TO BE A POSSIBILITY TO GIVE ABSOLUTELY NO STARS BECAUSE THIS PLACE IS HORRENDOUS!!! I got my dog in july... it was a Friday and he had been moved around a bit that he wasn't eating anything but greenies.. he ended up with horrible diarrhea. They are open on sunday and I felt so bad for him that I ended up taking him there .. I was so concerned and they come at you with this wellness plan and at the moment I thought it would be best for him so I did it.. went for his shots and dr mohammed JABBED the needle into him there was no compassion or care.. that night I couldn't come near him he cried with every movement and touch.. I was literally watching him in tears all night because I was so worried..the next day his eye is swollen shut I run back and he takes him in the back and tells me he has an ulcer. give me meds and they set up a follow up.. I went back for the follow up as scheduled and he starts yelling at me because I didn't go back in a week.. I told him I came back when HIS office scheduled me so its not my fault that his staff are incompetent.. he says they have to redo the stain test to see if his eye is ok.. this is the part where I believe he actually did nothing.. the first time they took him back and then brought him to me and made me wait like a half hour 40 min.. the second time he brought him to me and since I was in a rush after 5 or 10 min I walked out of the room to ask and he was like he's fine he's fine you can leave.. I left for vacation two days later and had given to my friend to care for.. the day I was leaving he calls me in a panic that my dogs eye is swollen shut and not opening.. he takes him to the Secaucus office and guess what sure enough he still had an ulcer. ended up with 2 weeks of treatment and an additional 200 bucks for meds and serums they had to make out of his blood. I come home to find his eye double in size and with a huge white cloud over it as if he had cataract. my dog is a year old. I freak out and call my cousins friend who is an AMAZING vet but an hour away from me.. he took my call at 10 pm and I went to see him the next day.. thank god his cornea was healed and what I was seeing was scar tissue. The comment I made earlier about the test being funny is because when I went to this vet he did the stain test in front of me and checked him in front of me and told me what he saw immediately.. there was no half hour waiting on results.. I called to try to get out of this plan and they want me to pay an additional 600 bucks to get out of it.. I have been paying 79 each month since july.. the person that called me was trying with every ounce of her to find a reason to blame me so that there is no reason to let me go.. first she was like I see u went to Secaucus Sept 4th.. she was like that is a long time between the 20th when you came anything could have happened.. no that was like the 3rd follow up.. I was told no ulcer on the 20th and he had an ulcer on the 23rd. then she was like u didn't give him the whole dose of antibiotics.. ok so maybe I gave him 9 days not 10 .. at the end of the day the point of all this is to make people aware of what they may be getting into .. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE think a million times over before you put your pets life in their hands.. there is no discount.. they charge you for everything.. every test every medication.. so not worth it.. Im stuck but thankfully the only banfield with more that 2 stars is not terribly far and I have called them to make an appointment as my dog now is a year and half and still not fixed. So far I spoke to Nathan and he was really cool on the phone and totally understood and set me up for a consultation to meet the dr. I'm hoping the rest of my experience with them is the same as this phone call.

Well those medications wore off because there are too many people before our scheduled appointment. I'm willing to give Dr. Goldsmith some leeway for the fact that I showed up on a day when a staff member unexpectedly called out, and they were slammed and extremely behind as a result. Even with that, however, there were a number of inexcusable problems with my visit (and even he admitted that when I spoke to him on the phone later that evening). The biggest concern I had was the fact that they did an extreme nail-trimming on my dog's claws that went quite far back into the quick. They applied coagulating powder at the office, but her nails bled through the styptic and we were left with a gory nightmare in her car carrier, the lobby of our building, our apartment foyer, our bathroom floor... I was really surprised that they didn't bandage her foot at all given how much they removed. We also had issues with proper respect and communication at all levels of the clinic. The front desk phone operators are warm and pleasant, but the vet tech was aggressively rude with my husband and his coworkers and acted like I didn't exist. I had to leave for a doctor appointment before they were done with the dog, and Dr. Goldsmith claimed that the reason the clinic didn't inform me that my dog was ready for pickup was that he'd heard me say that I was going to call when I was done. That doesn't make any sense to me. Why wouldn't I just check my voicemails, even if I was going for a long appointment? He also made some very disrespectful assumptions about me over my hesitance to give oral antibiotics to my very old dog with a very sensitive tummy. In the end, when I asked Dr. Goldsmith how he was going to make this right, he allowed the question to hang in empty space with no reply. If he'd knocked literally anything off my bill for my trouble, I might have considered coming back, but he clearly is interested in the money he can get for the work he's already done, and not in building a relationship with a new customer. One extra star, because at least my dog's still alive.

My boy Zuko was only 11 months old when I brought him in for profuse vomiting. I called on a Tuesday and was told to give him half of a Peptid AC and bring him to emergency if his vomiting persisted, which it did not until the morning of our scheduled appointment. When I brought him at 11 am on Thursday, Dr. Jan noted his abdomen was inflamed and suggested an x-ray and sedation (to calm him) without providing any information on the possible risks of sedation. I must also add that she and her technician took zero measure of calming him down and handled him quite roughly. Zuko was an endlessly sweet boy and I just assumed he was afraid of the vet, which I also thought was normal for animals being a first time pet owner. I was then simply given a consent form, again, without communication of possible side effects of sedation. Trusting her, I signed it. I now understand that was a terrible mistake. She had me leave him at the facility for a few hours and I was to pick him up later. She then called me at 3:15 and informed me that "something went wrong" and that Zuko had died. She gave him the sedation and his heart stopped. She also failed to give him adrenaline of any kind until his blood was no longer circulating. My partner and I arrived to the facility immediately upon hearing the news and Dr. Jan was distraught, stating that death by sedation is very rare and never happens. Zuko never even received an x-ray for the original cause of the visit. I am left with no answers as to how he passed as she was completely in shock as well and could give us little professional insight. She told us she did not know. There was no suggestion or offer of an autopsy of any kind. When we were viewing his body, she came into the room with memorial papers and had to run back to "another sick cat." It's possible Zuko was given the wrong medication or too much of the sedative, but when we called to ask for a statement to provide our family with more closure and clarity, she provided us with an illegible photocopy of his medical records. When we went to pick up his ashes, she wasn't at the office as it was her day off. I'll note that she knew that we were coming to get his ashes that day and that day the office was only open for 3 hours. I had planned to ask more questions, but she was treating it like it was any other day for her. Meanwhile, our lives were ruined. At that point I decided to report her to the NJ veterinary board because I was tired of chasing her around for answers. That process takes from 6 months to a year or longer. I am left with no choice but to write this review. We are devastated by the loss of Zuko, our 11 month old kitten, whose life was cut short. Dr Jan failed to act in a timely manner to treat him. Maybe I should have brought him to emergency, but his vomiting had stopped for a period. Regardless, I will never know because we were given no explanation. And the fact that she couldn't be bothered to be present for our arrival to pick up his ashes to answer any more questions we had (under the circumstances) was even more heartbreaking. I'm writing this review to reach anyone that it may concern and let them know Dr. Jan Rottenberg cannot be trusted to provide adequate care and failed to perform her due diligence after the fact.
