I've been taking my cats to Park Vet since 1993. We love Doctor Goldsmith. We stayed with him for years until he started falling asleep while examining our cats. I wouldn't trust him to do surgery. Sorry, but it's the truth. If he can't stay awake during a superficial examination, surgery is a no-go. Dr. Goldsmith, we loved you for so many years. You saved our cat, Bob, numerous times. They Saw my dogs for years .... took them in for their annual checkup and heartworm test with the new doctor Nelson in on 3/17/25.....tried to renew their heartworm for 2 weeks after the appointment ...no renewal...no phone call....of course they cashed my 350 check in the time span and sent one of the dogs records email one night ...I had no idea they closed on me...... read more

I'm very disappointed in both the care and communication here. First off, they are still taking irrational COVID-19 precautions and not allowing owners to go in with their pets. Perhaps that's part of the reason they made so many errors during my dog's simple visit. I brought her here because she had a cracked nail that was causing her distress. I pointed out the specific nail to the vet tech and gave her my cell phone number - was told it would be approximately 25 minutes. An hour later, I had still not heard from anyone. Apparently they were trying to call the home number at the time even though I specifically requested they call my cell and wrote it down. When my dog was ready, I paid the $90 bill and took a look at her paw -the broken nail was still there, untouched. I brought her back and someone else told me they had cut the nail on the other paw. She went back inside and was brought out a few minutes later - this time I was handed a prescription vial as well (it had the wrong pet/owner name on the label). I took her back to the car and AGAIN the broken nail was STILL there! For a third time, I brought her to the front door and was told AGAIN that they cut a different nail. Finally she was brought out with a bleeding nail - it looked like they cut off way more than where it was cracked - and a prescription vial with the correct information. All this took an hour and a half for what should have been a 25 minute visit. What an absolute mess of a clinic. Extremely untrustworthy care, terrible communication, and lack of professionalism. So many mistakes at the expense of my pet who is now in more distress than when I brought her in. I wish I never brought her here, but I will certainly never be back and advise other pet owners to seek care elsewhere. read more

My husband and I are glad that we found Dr. L. Goldsmith. We were going to the highly overpriced and callous Plainfield Animal Hospital which my previous cat hated. As soon as she saw the animal carrier bag, she went into a panic. They never told us how sick she was and with lock down, we never bothered to take her to the vet because it would upset her. When we found Dr. Goldsmith, he told us that our cat was very, very sick. It was our decision to put our cat out of her misery. Now that we have a very mellow male cat, it was no problem taking him there. This office charged only $160. instead of $400. + that the Plainfield Animal Hospital charged. We highly recommend this doctor and his staff. It's true that Dr. Goldsmith's office is very basic and no frills -- but it's quality care that's the most important thing. I'm sure that the Plainfield Animal Hospital charged sooo much more was because of their big and lavish interior and exterior which doesn't impress us one bit. They constantly charged us for the same wellness tests within a short period of time. I've been going to Dr. Goldsmith for 33 years. Wouldn't go anywhere else. Yes his office is very busy and that should speak volumes to anyone looking for a good vet. He's kind, he asks lots of questions and always comes up with a diagnosis appropriate and not bloated and full of stuff you don't need. He always calls to check up on your pet after a visit and offers choices in how to treat your pet. His prices are very reasonable. I've heard people paying thousands of dollars for routine surgeries. Love his staff, always pleasant when I call and treat my pets with care. If you are complaining about him, you need to go to those overprices vets and not get your monies worth. I've had Dr goldsmith for over a decade. He is amazing. Years ago in the middle of the night my cat had issues I called and left a msg for the answering service. He called me back in 15 mins then told me he will be at the office in 10. He's become super busy. Then my dads cat needed to be euthanized but before going he let him spend as many needed hours alone with him. My dad was very grateful for him. Some ppl need to relax good vets always have tons of patients. (Esp since he's the only vet there) but we go to him for a good reason. He works super hard til very late at night. Takes on emergencies (ie dog got hit by a car ) therefore yeah the wait is long. People complain when it's too long of a wait and then ppl complain there's no one there goes there. Just can't make anyone happy here. But I highly recommend this wonderful vet. Price wise he's much lower than most like Raritan on 27 charged me 900$ for saving it was an emergency and doing blood work . read more

Being a pet owner my entire life, this office is the by far the best I've ever dealt with. Dr. Goldsmith gives superb individualized attention to every pet. He knows all my animals and is so friendly with them. The staff is great and competent. I don't mind waiting in the brand new waiting area either for our turn. The new tile is amazing! Love the fresh new look Doc! I've been a client here for several years and even through new babies, old babies, and Angel babies, I've always been treated amazing and so have my pets. This was the worst vet experience I have endured. Outdated COVID procedures, the lady at the front desk straight out ignored me because I didn't have a mask but I was asking for a mask, had to drive across the street to be given a mask from the automobile place. On my way back there was a man crying and protesting this vet because of his own concerns with his dog. While being seen the room was filthy and unsanitary. There was medicine and a needle in the sink while I was waiting in the room for the doctor. The doctor was nice and treated my cat however with everything that happen I would not recommend. read more

This is a duplicate of the review I left on the listing for "Lyndon Goldsmith DVM". Before I brought my dog to this vet, I only found that listing and not this one, and I'm not really sure why there's a duplicate like that. I'm willing to give Dr. Goldsmith some leeway for the fact that I showed up on a day when a staff member unexpectedly called out, and they were slammed and extremely behind as a result. Even with that, however, there were a number of inexcusable problems with my visit (and even he admitted that when I spoke to him on the phone later that evening). The biggest concern I had was the fact that they did an extreme nail-trimming on my dog's claws that went quite far back into the quick. They applied coagulating powder at the office, but her nails bled through the styptic and we were left with a gory nightmare in her car carrier, the lobby of our building, our apartment foyer, our bathroom floor... I was really surprised that they didn't bandage her foot at all given how much they removed. We also had issues with proper respect and communication at all levels of the clinic. The front desk phone operators are warm and pleasant, but the vet tech was aggressively rude with my husband and his coworkers and acted like I didn't exist. I had to leave for a doctor appointment before they were done with the dog, and Dr. Goldsmith claimed that the reason the clinic didn't inform me that my dog was ready for pickup was that he'd heard me say that I was going to call when I was done. That doesn't make any sense to me. Why wouldn't I just check my voicemails, even if I was going for a long appointment? He also made some very disrespectful assumptions about me over my hesitance to give oral antibiotics to my very old dog with a very sensitive tummy. In the end, when I asked Dr. Goldsmith how he was going to make this right, he allowed the question to hang in empty space with no reply. If he'd knocked literally anything off my bill for my trouble, I might have considered coming back, but he clearly is interested in the money he can get for the work he's already done, and not in building a relationship with a new customer. Zero stars for the lack of professionalism and adequate care received after bringing in a stray, malnourished kitten who almost froze to death. We saw a glimmer of hope for the sweet boy but, instead, Dr. Goldsmith's incompetency to deliver the cat a safe amount of antibiotics forced him into a coma. After bringing the kitten to an actual veterinary clinic when he didn't show signs of improvement, we found out that the kitten's weak body was attempting to fight off the toxins that Dr Goldsmith wrongly measured and administered to him. In order to keep the kitten from suffering even more, we decided to put him down. Central Jersey Veterinary Clinic should be investigated for their lack of adequate care. Not to mention the lack of bedside manner and professionalism as there was no communication with us about what he was doing to the cat while we were in the room. We had so much hope for this kitten's second chance and because of this clinics inability to offer basic animal care, all hope was lost. I am beyond thrilled that my friend told me about Dr. Goldsmith. I was paying an exorbitant amount of money to another Vet Group. They did tons of unnecessary tests where as Dr. Goldsmith is very pragmatic. He truly uses his knowledge to determine the best course of action for treating a pet. I have been using him since August 2018 for my cat Tilly. I have since brought 2 cats that have adopted me, one is semi feral and recently a kitty who didn't find it's way back home either though it was only houses away. I HIGHLY Recommend using this Vet. I have been very happy with the care my cat has received from Dr. Goldsmith. I moved to the area recently and a few months ago my elderly cat started having some serious health issues so I took him to the nearest vet, which happened to be Central Jersey Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Goldsmith has really been very kind and attentive to my cat- he has made several follow up phone calls to check in with me and see how my cat is doing. I have NEVER had a vet do this before! I was really surprised to see the negative reviews on here because I have felt so lucky to find Dr. Goldsmith- he has been much more attentive and concerned about my cat than any other vet I have seen in the past. As far as prices go- I think it has been reasonable, even though that still means things can be really expensive because veterinary care is always expensive, especially if there is any sort of emergency health crisis happening. I think that this place is actually a bit cheaper than some other vets in the area based on what friends have told me about where they take their animals. The only reason I am giving them 4/5 stars is because the place could use some good regular cleaning. It's definitely a 'no frills' sort of vibe, which is fine because what I'm really concerned about is their ability to care for my cat. read more

I brought my pet over to this clinic to see Dr. Goldsmith based on the reviews I read on here. I am completely confused as to how this practice got such excellent reviews on yelp. The care was awful, I don't trust this vet one bit, difficult to get a hold of and very expensive. I took my pet to another vet who had a totally different assessment than what I was told here. I was appalled by the way my pet was handled in such an aggressive manner; he was frightened out of his mind and so was I. I felt like the vet was only concerned about billing and not actually caring about the patient. Furthermore, I truly did not get the impression that this vet was competent. For something as important as pet health, I would never bring my pet back to this clinic again. I took my cat to Park Veterinary Clinic for a general exam and because she had an ear infection. The vet examined her and took a swab from her ear and examined that. He never cleaned her ear or examined the canal. We were given an ointment to put in her ear every day and were told that the doctor would call in a few days to check on her. After 3 days without hearing from the doctor, I called in because my cat was having problems with one of her eyes and her pupil was contracted and the membrane was swollen. I was told to put plain saline in her eye and once again I was told that the doctor would call in a few days to see how she was doing. I am now at another 3 days later without a single call from anyone at the vet's office. I called today because my cat's ear is not improving, her eye is not improving, and she is lethargic. When I called at 1:30, I was told the doctor would call me back in a few hours. At 6:30pm, my boyfriend called to speak to the vet and was told he would receive a call back in an hour. At 8:30pm after once again not receiving a single call back, I called the vet. I told him I would not be coming back and would take my business elsewhere. read more

What a horrible experience! This was my first time here, and I should have listened to the negative reviews, but I figured since I'm just bringing in my cat for a nail trim it wouldn't really matter. Long story short, both I and my cat were unapologetically treated like garbage, and my cat ended up bleeding. Long story long: I admit I arrived 5 minutes late, and I apologized for being late to the woman at the front desk - I had trouble getting my cat into the carrier. I'm new to the neighborhood and my cat is still adjusting, so a trip to the vet is stressful as it is. I filled out some paperwork and waited to be called in. After a short time I was escorted to weigh my cat and then shown into an exam room. This was 15 minutes past my appointment time, and there was no one in the clinic except myself, the woman at the front desk and the vet. 20 minutes go by and my cat is stressed for most of it, just beginning to relax. I decided to step out to say that this is a bad first impression and to ask where the vet is, just to be told there's a lot going on and he's coming. A couple of minutes later the vet walks in and starts making small talk to the cat. Didn't introduce himself, shake my hand, or even acknowledge me. I voiced my concern to him again, asking why I had to wait so long. He said it was because I was an hour late to the appointment. At this point it became clear that there was a scheduling mishap on their end. Just the day before I clearly communicated my appointment time and the gentleman on the phone confirmed it. A thought passed through my mind that this vet's office decided to treat me like this based on their assumption that I was an hour late. I mentioned that this may have been a scheduling error, but that really didn't seem to matter to the vet. In fact his manner became very brash and frustrated. Anyway, the vet called in his front desk aide and while she held down the cat he violently clipped all of the claws very close to the root. My cat is an outdoor cat and my previous vet refused to cut his front claws so that he can climb trees and defend himself if needed. Nope - not this guy! He clipped away vigorously and ended up cutting into the dermis on one of the claws, making my cat bleed! Needless to say I was outraged. I called the man out on this and asked him why the cat is bleeding. He said it's because the cat couldn't stay still. I again asked him for the reason my cat is bleeding, and he said "the claw was cut too close", but used the third person, just like that. No apology, no remorse. To that I said this was a horrible experience and a waste of time. I'm not coming back and will make sure people know about the crudeness and lack of care of this practice. The vet turned around and walked out on me, and so did the aide. On my way out I told her I'm not paying for the procedure and she said she expected that because that's the kind of person that I am. This was our first time here and will be the last for sure. Appointment was at 4 pm but it took over an hour to get the doctor to see our dog. Then half an hour for two shots. Wellness exam ($75) was a joke. He didn't check the dog's ears or eyes or nails or anything. But the worst is that he was literally falling asleep on the table. Eyes closed, not talking. Asleep. Maybe he has an illness, or he hasn't slept since 1990 or he was drugged (or all the above are correct...) but it totally felt like a hidden camera show... Surreal. In response to a negative review by Susannah A. I've been taking my Standard Poodle Fifi to Dr. Goldsmith for almost 6 years. He's examined Fifi from her first visit to present. Dr. Goldsmith is not convenient he is almost a 40 minute drive from my house and there's always traffic. There are many other vets in between but I would take the drive any time for the peace of mind that comes along with Dr. Goldsmith. Fifi and I are currently in Florida for the winter. Fifi had an accident while at her groomer. I took her to a local veterinarian who said she should be o.k.. But we are headed back to New Jersey so Dr. Goldsmith can examine her on Monday. He has always been kind, gentle and displays knowledge of his craft. The exam rooms have always been clean with no smells. I can't address Dr. Goldsmith or Mrs. Goldsmith on a personal level as I don't know him other than as a veterinarian. I don't know if he has a personal medical issue but has never displayed any issues while I've been in his office. As for Mrs. Goldsmith, I don't believe I ever met her and if she's not a veterinarian I don't care if she likes animals or not. I've been taking my dog to Dr. Goldsmith since I got him two years ago. Everyone I've met at the office is friendly and professional, and they are very sweet, attentive, and gentle with my dog. When I call for an appointment, they are able to schedule me within just a few days. The prices at Park Vet are reasonable, even on my modest grad student budget. does not like dogs i have brought both a cat and a dog here, and i can tell you there is a HUGE difference in the way this vet treats dogs vs cats. in fact, he commented on how "good" my dog was and how "almost none" of the dogs he encounters are that good. he seemed utterly amazed that my dog was calm, happy and cooperative. since then, i'd talked to other dog owners and found they all have the same experience, the man just doesn't seem to like dogs. however, i will say, i love the way my cat is treated when there. dog goes elsewhere. read more

Dr. Goldsmith is absolutely incredible - he is thorough in his exam, he listens to my concerns and takes notes and offers practical advice on treatments/resolutions to the problem. Dr. Goldsmith is a wonderful vet who truly cares about animals. When my Pomeranian was attacked at Camp Bow Wow Middlesex (see my review on that awful place), he was the vet I took my little guy too. The day care told me my dog's leg was bitten but it also turned out that my dog's neck was also injured. Dr. Goldsmith thoughly examined my dog and gave him some wonderful pain killers so he wouldn't yelp at night because of pain. He takes his time with the animals and put my mind at ease. He also called me the next day to see how my little guy was doing. Yep, that's right he called to check up on him. It is rare in these days to find that level of professionalism and personal touch. His prices are also very reasonable and the office will make every effort to get you into see the vet as soon as possible. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this place! read more

He is not only at ease with cats and dogs but seems to really enjoy them and aslo enjoy sharing his knowledge with his "other" patients - the owners. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME/ PUT YOUR ANIMAL IN DANGER. I made an appointment for 1130, arrived on time and was ignored for an hour. We waited for 30 min before receiving our clip board to fill out info. Another 25 minutes passed and the employee walked past me several times, never acknowledging me. Before I left at 12:25 (without my dogs even being seen). I asked why there was no communication from the staff, I had to ask if we were going to be seen at all after having made an appointment. The only response she could give was that the vet tech had a knee injury, and they were short staffed. What is the point in making an appointment a week in advance? No communication of a wait time, no apologies for having us sit there for an hour. The hour I spent waiting, I read the reviews. (To which the owner had a reply for every bad review). Dr. Goldsmith was super sweet. My small dog had gotten into a scuffle with a big dog earlier in the day (a big dog actually jumped a fence, ran towards us, and proceeded to snap at my little one), so being the helicopter dog-mom I am, I called in a panic for a same-day appointment. Dr. Goldsmith fit us in, stroked my ego by letting me know it was actually really sensible for me to make the appointment, and checked my dog for bruises, cuts, and stress. He gave my little one lots of treats and behind-the-ear scratches -- genuinely seemed to care. He also gave me important advice that other vets had failed to give me: don't give your dog flea medication right after bathing them -- the medication won't work! All in all, a great appointment. Minus one star for the super long wait. My appointment was at 12:45, and he didn't get to us until 1:30. read more

My boyfriend and I adopted a persian cat about 6 months ago. We were recommended to see Dr. Goldsmith and we are very glad we did! Not long after we adopted our cat Winston, he had to have a cornea procedure. My boyfriend and I were extremely stressed about the whole process but Dr. Goldsmith took great care of him. He constantly called to check on Winston. Leading up to Winston's procedure, we had a lot of hiccups with his eye. We called the office a lot haha! Everyone in the office was always so helpful over the phone and if Dr. Goldsmith was busy, he would always call us back later. Dr. Goldsmith (aka Central Jersey Veterinary Clinic) is the best vet I have ever taken my cats to. The day I switched to him from another local practice was a great day in the lives of my cats. It's been many years since I first started going there, and I've lost 3 wonderful cats over that period of time. Not only did he give excellent care throughout their lives, he was incredibly compassionate and helpful when they were at the end of their lives. He actually writes a personal condolence note to the family with the passing of each pet. I've never known a vet who did that before. It touched me deeply. He is a great person, and a great vet. Dr. Goldsmith is very kind and compassionate. I found a badly injured stray kitten last summer (her back legs being comletely paralyzed), and brought her in. Dr. Goldsmith examined her, took x-rays, and was straightforward in telling me that the paralysis was most likely permanent and explaining what would be involved in caring for such a cat if I adopted her. I told him that I still wanted to do it. Ivy (I named her) had to stay for a little while for them to take care of her immediate injuries and to check for rabies and FLV. He didn't know how long he would have to keep her, and money being an issue for me, he offered (unsolicited!) to cap the bill at around $300 no matter how long she had to stay. It ended up being almost two weeks (due partly to hurricane Sandy) before I could bring her home. During that time the nursing staff took great care of her and even began to socialize her (she was 2 months old, which is very late for a kitten to first be exposed to humans). I am happy to say now (~2 months later) that Ivy has made almost a full recovery! She is a happy, rambunctious, and increasingly friendly kitten. Even my older cat (Bart) is starting to get fond of her. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Goldsmith and the staff at Park Vet for what they did. They are real animal lovers and I highly recommend them. read more
