As someone who has owned many dogs over the years and visited numerous veterinary practices throughout the area, I can confidently say that Amboy Avenue Animal Hospital is exceptional. When I was first referred to Dr. Murtha, I was warned that "she's pricey." My response then is the same as it is now: you get what you pay for. When it comes to my pets, I will always choose quality medicine over bargain prices. Dr. Murtha is honest, compassionate, and incredibly knowledgeable. She doesn't tell you what you want to hear--she tells you what your pet needs to hear. She will always recommend what is in your animal's best interest, even if it's not the easiest conversation. That level of integrity is exactly what I want in a veterinarian. Over the years, Dr. Murtha has cared for all six of my dogs through just about every medical issue imaginable--from routine care to complex health challenges. There is no one I trust more with their lives. Her expertise, calm demeanor, and genuine concern for both her patients and their families are second to none. Her staff deserves just as much praise. Every single person in the office is kind, professional, patient, and truly cares about the animals that come through their doors. They know our dogs, they know us, and they treat us like family. As for the cost? I honestly don't find Amboy Avenue Animal Hospital expensive at all. In fact, I could name several local veterinarians who charge significantly more while providing far less personalized care and expertise. I am incredibly grateful for everything Dr. Murtha and her amazing team have done for my furry family. They have earned my trust, my loyalty, and my highest recommendation. I'm sorry some new patients could not get appointments and I understand but he was only 1 person and a small clinic so he had to cut new patients off at some point. So I'm disappointed in this most recent visit a few days ago. My cat has liquid diarrhea that just…read morestarted yesterday however, I wanted to take him to the vet to fix the issue early. The new Dr that took over recommended an injection to bring his appetite back then gave me medication to administer to my cat every 12 hours- that was $157. On top of that, the Dr. recommended blood work and if they checked his poop - the entire visit would've been close to $500. Crazy thing is!!?? That includes none of his yearly shots that he's supposed to get. Long story short - my cat did have an appetite after the injection (same day) BUT after giving him the other medication via mouth - it seems like his symptoms got worse. He started drooling at the mouth and still has liquid diarrhea. At this point, I just purchased some stuff from Petco based off the reviews and hope that does the trick. The previous Dr that owned the practice literally charged me $35 for medication that actually worked - my cat was healed in about 2-3 days. The staff were nice - the Dr was very nice- everyone was great!! However, the issue wasn't resolved smh.
