My dog passed away completely unexpectedly 15hrs after receiving a shot here. This was after she was sick for a year and lost 1/3rd of her body weight; while I was told she was healthy every time I brought her in. I bring my cat here occasionally whenever something is going on with him or he just needs his check up / shots. But whenever I do need to get in contact with the people who work at this specific Banfield they never answer their phones. I'm calling back to back just to make a simple appointment for my cat who needed to be brought when he woke up sick. It's not right to be called a "pet hospital" and not pick up the phone which should be a priority. read more

Banfield is a Scam. Part of the staff's job is to convince you to sign up for their costly annual services with a monthly fee. They charge you a ridiculous amount of money for the simplest things. I was convinced to sign-up for the early kitten wellness plan plus when I got my new kitten. I have an older cat that has always gotten his preventative medicine and care from a real vet so he doesn't go to Banfield. When I brought my kitten to them for a regular appointment they convinced me that signing up for their annual package is the better deal and will "save money". It has cost me so much money! Every single time I take her to Banfield to get "routine" care that is "included in the package" I signed up for, they charge me additional for things I did not agree to. For example, I signed up for the more expensive package so that I could get her a spay. I pay $35 a month. When I took her in to get her spay that's "included in the package", they then informed me that they are going to charge me an additional $60 for a "urinalyses that's not included" and "take-home medicine". I could have easily paid far, far less money this year by taking her to a REAL vet like I did with my first cat. I won't be taking my kitten back to them in the future even though I still have a package with them. You can't cancel because it's an annual contract. The only way out is to pay the "full cost of services rendered" which they have listed as bloated and unrealistic. Be warned and steer clear of this place! read more

As someone who goes to that vet the "receptionists, staff" do not know anything that their computer does not tell them. Your story is so false it isn't funny. We bring our dog here. Dr. Snelling is wonderful. She'll talk to you forever until you fully understand what is going on. Their hours are good, and we are always seen close to our appointment time. The only drawback is the front desk gets busy, so you often wait for a good 10 minute sbefore you even get to speak to a receptionist. read more

After 20yrs with the same vet we decided to change it up with our new puppy. I have to admit I was kind of hesitant to change but the wellness plan was attractive since the pup would require frequent visits and vaccines. I am so glad we made the change and met Dr Z! He is definitely my kind of doctor. He's very knowledgeable and caring. I'm some what of a worry wart, he not only takes care of our Frankie with care and ease, he also talks me down! The entire staff has been wonderful. From the ease of making an appt to check in/out, they have been great! The wellness plan really gives us piece of mind and takes the worry out of the cost of "another vet visit". We've had our pup 2 mths and have gone for routine and emergency 5-6 times already. read more

Inept and appalling Veterinary services! Do your homework do not use this location. I made the grave mistake of taking my 11 month old puppy here for a simple spay procedure. Our dog was dead within 24hrs of their procedure! I posted similar warnings on Banfield's FB page but I have been censored and banned from further postings. My advice much like selecting a physician for you or a family member. Do your homework for Vet Services with the same scrutiny. The question is will this factual post be removed from Yelp? read more

(Edited to include my reply to corporate response; at bottom) Two stars because the doctor was friendly and good with our kitten. The place was clean, so there's that. It barely makes up for everything else, and I'd give them fewer stars, but that wouldn't be fair to the medical staff. I can only hope Banfield is the first stop out of veterinary school; good for a little hands-on experience before going into business for oneself?? I was treated, otherwise, like a sheep with a purse. First, they were 40 minutes late, which stinks, but try it with a terrified kitten and a rambunctious 6-year-old. Yep, situations come up, but NO ONE addressed this. When we finally got in, the vet tech/nurse presented a computer and immediately tried to sign me up for their monthly payment plan, and went over the financial details of the exam and neutering I was hoping to schedule for the kitten, who was, by the way, 1 month too old for their WAY less expensive kitten package (he had just passed the 6-month mark when we got in for our appointment), but still young enough for all of the other kitten-y stuff they wanted to sell me. I had no intention of signing up for their package anyway, but she refused to call the kitten a kitten. The poor thing was still crying in his carrier, by the way. The doctor finally came in, and he was gentle with the kitten and was pleasant to the humans in the room. He did, though, say: "Your cat has some build up in his ears, but if you want to know what it is, that will be an extra $50." I looked at him, and the nurse/tech, incredulous. I have a microscope at home, I said. I could take a swab and look at the gorp myself. For free. I hope they knew what the build-up was, and since they didn't push for the microscope meant it wasn't a big deal. Just a money making opportunity for them. Which is icky, but a little less icky than the other possibility: that they didn't know what it was, and didn't care. I had a coupon for $50 off, but the bill was still nearly $120. It included a couple of vaccines, and one dose of a two-part process. They refused to schedule dose 2 and the neutering on the same day - too much for his system, they said. And no, they couldn't do anything about at the office visit fees - I'd have to pay for both of the upcoming office visits, oh well. I heard about Banfield because I have a dog, and we use PetSmart grooming (they've been great for the dog), and I received a coupon from them. I take the dog and two other cats (as well as previous pets) to Dr. Batts of Trenton Veterinary Hospital (a 5 star review awaits), and I figured it couldn't hurt to have another vet, just in case. Anyway, Banfield called me REPEATEDLY to get the kitten back for the second vaccine dose and his neutering, but I was done. I was looking at nearly $450 for the next two visits, if I stuck with Banfield, without their "package." The monthly rate seems reasonable, but spread out over the year, it's ghastly. I called Dr. Batts and he got me in right away. He took out an ear scope and looked in the kitten's ears (no additional charge), and gave me some $5 drops to clear it. Kitten received his second dose and was neutered, for under $150. I showed him the paperwork I received from Banfield and told him about our visit, and he said, "I used to be proud of my profession, but places like that make me so ashamed." PetSmart is a decent store, but using the on-site vet is a horrible mistake. There are so many better vets out there, who will not only respect your time, treat you like a human, treat your pet well, and not try to guilt you into financial ruin. I already have a vet who is fantastic, and have used others in the past that were better than Banfield, and I'll go back to one of them if my vet retires. Not that there's anything wrong with Banfield doctors, but I hope they're just logging in some time until they can start their own practices. I have seen the same response as the one you sent me - almost verbatim - on every other Banfield review, and am sure that you, and the corporate overlords at Banfield, comprehend our complaints. Nearly every post was detailed, measured, and you could just use that content as a starting place to improve your service, no need to talk on the phone. PetSmart, on its own, does so much good for animals, and as far as corporations go, I suspect folks, overall, hold them in high esteem, and Banfield is riding on those coattails. I just feel badly for people who adopt their very first cat, through PetSmart, and figure they'll just use Banfield, without knowing better, since you're located in the right in the store. You're convenient, but amoral. Want to improve? It's easy. Kill the hard sales pitch and the hard sales pitch that follows; the debate the follows after that (maybe I was just lucky in that regard?), and the "packages." read more

I had to bring my kitten to Banfield because all the vets weren't taking new animals during the beginning of covid. He was a feral kitten and needed to be checked head to toe. Figured if it worked out I would keep going there. First doctor completely sucked. I requested someone else and she was much better but I question how much they really know about kittens/cats. It seemed like they leaned on a nurse for their information. I've asked each visit about his ears and ear mites. They said they were dirty and gave me a ear flush. Which wasn't working. I finally got in w a different vet and asked for another look at his ears. The new vet place said the ear mites he has are awful and they see eggs.. SERIOUSLY!!!! I'm so pissed. They said it's very easy to detect ear mites!!!! How did Banfield miss this when I asked every visit. My poor kitten. I have nothing positive to say about this place. Don't go there! read more

I can't say enough about the care that all of the members of the Banfield team have provided to my dog. I was thrilled after our first visit when I emailed Jenn (the business manager/vet tech) a question at 7:30 on Sunday night figuring I would hear back from her the next day and she emailed a response immediately from her phone. This week my dog was bitten by another dog at day care and while it has been a very difficult week they have been nothing short of remarkable. I called on the way to pick him up from day care and they said to bring right in. We were seen immediately and Dr Snelling spent a lot of time explaining the procedure, the potential issues, what she actually did when she was done, and the required aftercare. Two days later he pulled the exterior stitch and again Dr Snelling took him right away. I have called multiple times since then and the receptionist, vet techs, and doctors know my pet, what medication he is on, and are very helpful and reassuring. I'm so glad I decided to give Banfield a try. I couldn't be happier. read more

Not a fan of this place. So many better options to car for your pet. I was treated rude there once, but all it takes is once.

I see Dr. Levenson here at the Banfield Hospital and absolutely love it. He is extremely knowledgable and the staff is efficient. I'm on the active prevention plan and I find it DOES save me a lot of money because I use every aspect of it and it gives me a discount on anything else I might need. Also with the plan I can drop her off in the morning for those longer exams which helps. I definitely use those free office visits as well for anything questionable about my baby girl which is nice on my wallet and eases my worries. I know they changed their policies recently and it seems to be a lot more efficient and I et a lot more doctor time. Definitely recommend :) read more

We tried to file a complaint to them but received no response. So, this belongs here then. We had an exceedingly bad experience in Hamilton Banfield Pet hospital. We brought our sick cat (Shmi, who is on the Optimum Wellness program, $40/month). She was not eating and it turned out she has infections going on. The doctor refused to do a blood test without anesthesia without even taking her out from her crate (he did not even see her), as we were worried about her, we did not protest much. After a while, he came back with the test results and she had very low white blood cells. He told us that she has skin infections,but he did not clean them since the cat was in pain. Unfortunately, we did not ask him why he did not do it when she was under anesthesia. He also failed to see a black discharge in her ears, her swollen leg, and wheezing sound she is making when she is breathing. He prescribed her Revolution, which should not be given to underweight cats (he himself had diagnosed Shmi underweight earlier), he also gave her a painkiller, which cause decreased appetite as a side effect (please remember that her appetite was why brought her to the vet at first place), and we had to figure that out ourselves and stop the medication to make her eat again. Just a few days after the visit, Shmi's infections are getting worse and her paw is more swollen. he did not even bother talking to us when we called and had a nurse tell us that we need to take the vet to an emergency clinic. At the end of the day, we had stressed our cat with a pet visit, lost time because we thought she was properly treated and will get better, risked harming her with medications that are prescribed without care (he did not describe potential risks of the medications and also refused to demonstrate administration of Revolution, telling us that he would have to charge us for it)and we were charged $488 for this bad experience. We believe we are victims of a very poor service due to negligence and incompetence possibly even medical malpractice. We asked our money back, as we need it to provide her with proper medical care. We are not rich people, someone found Shmi alone and wounded on the street when she was probably less than a day old and brought her to us, and we have been doing our best to keep her happy and healthy since. Seeing that no one at Banfield cares about our complaint makes me think that what happened to us is not an exception. So, please do not repeat our mistake and take your pet to a vet who would care about their well-being, not just how much money they can make of them. read more

WAY...WAY...WAY to expensive. The people their are nice but it doesn't feel like they care too much, especially for your sake. They tried getting me to buy all of their brand name medications, for the abandoned kittens that i was taking care of, all of them ridiculously expensive. Thankfully i found over the counter medications for some of the issues, and guess what, they worked, for lots less money. Don't get me wrong I got all the issues taken care of to make sure they were healthy, but Banfield was no help on price. I kept one of the kittens and started going to a different Vet. They are just as nice and caring, but they also tell me about over the counter medicines to save my money and my business. read more

They are constantly selling, not serving. It took nearly four days to get them to fax a prescription to a vet pharmacy, where it cost me $7.20 for one month, versus $35 at Bainfield. When I tried to schedule a follow-up test for my pet, they wanted to board her for a day ($$$) for a five-minute blood draw. They don't want you if you won't play their way...and I don't want them if they won't care about my pet. We have a new vet. read more

After my horrible experience I brought my dog the next day for the xray because the previous vet made me really think he needed it. I dropped him off for the xray luckily it was Dr Case on duty. And she didn't feel he needed the xray. She actually felt his stomach and did a physical examination unlike the other vet who only touched him to listen to his heart and take his temperature. He was there all day which I felt bad for him because he was so sick but I didn't care. I knew he was somewhere in good hands with Dr Case. I didn't have to pay anything and he started getting better the following day. Dr Case is Awesome! On a side note I love Dr Sneling as well. Shes so good with the dogs and really nice. Saw her for my other dogs vaccines. read more
