I recently purchased pet insurance with Healthy Paws And one of the requirements was that my dogs needed to have updated wellness exams. I took them to Banfield animal Hospital located in the Petsmart in Johnston because they were offering free wellness visits if you purchase the vaccines needed from them. Derek, the vet tech explained the various plans they offered and was very nice and informative. My dog was then examined by Dr. Carlson, who then also administered the vaccines and trimmed her nails. I must say this establishment has wonderful people working for them. They were so friendly and just very upbeat and pleasant people, including the lovely female who checked me in. I was definitely impressed and will be returning soon to have my babies microchipped. read more

Very dessappointed with this hospital at the Atleboro, MA location. I brought my puppy there for rabbies vaccine, and to find out about neuter him. I ended up signing up for their Wellnes program. We them scheduled his surgery. On the evening before the surgery they called me to go over everything, and told me I need to pay an additional $470 which I was not expecting since they told the surgery would be cover under the plan. After I disagree with their unethical action. I told them that was not what I signed for. They also told me they would not pull his baby teeth when I specific added to the plan surgery. I told them I want to cancel his surgery and the whole Wellnes plan. They gave me a phone number to call, and when I called they said in order to cancel the plan I haven't even used, I would need to pay $500.00. I was furious, later I found out they gave other shots to my puppy without consulting me. They take the dogs to the back room and we hsve no clue what they do. I am fighting this, they are not going to scam me anymore! I filed a complaint with the attorney General and BBB, and if not resolved I will take them to court. Never again. The male was nice, but upon doing a wellness check he totally missed a lump on my dogs belly.. Front staff was a bit rude and they neverrrrrrrr answer the damn phone or even return calls EVER! It's so annoying. I understand the office may be busy; but c'mon. There is a Dr. Janine Oliver who is allowed to practice animal medicine as a primary doctor, surgeon, and an at-home euthanasia service at this Banfield. She has had her license taken in North Caroline as well as shutting down her practice. Dr. Oliver has been caught on video kicking her own patients in her clinic and has purposefully let a dog go septic and die after a simple lump removal. She left the poor dog's surgical wound to fester under an unchanged bacterial-filled bandage for 5 days until the owner came In after thinking something was wrong. Dr. Oliver then placed the blame on the owner even though the dog was boarded at the veterinary practice away from the owner. Janine Oliver also tried to either cut corners or was just an extremely negligible practice owner as she allowed a dog aggressive dog to be kenneled next to another dog which is not the biggest problem. The thin kennel wall that separated the aggressive dog from the other dog was not properly bolted to the wall on the back side of the kennel. This resulted in the aggressive dog pushing through and attacking and maiming the other dog kennels next to him. The dog that was attacked was killed in a horrific death that went unnoticed long enough for both kennels, the floors of the kennel area, and the walls around that area to be SPRAYED with blood. Once again, I've been calling all morning to set an appointment for my dog. What happens? NOTHING but unanswered phones. Every single time I call Banfield Johnston, it's the same old thing. I already transferred one dog to another vet due to this same nonsense. I'm just about ready to transfer my other dog. Banfield corporate, you really need to take the reins and talk to the hospital manager or CSR manager about the lack of experience or who knows what it is. I've gotten through to much bigger practices faster than this itty bitty practice. I'm really sick of it and now that Dr. Miller is no longer with the practice, it's going to make it much easier to switch. Terrible experience. My dog has a malignant tumor that grew and caused damaged that they told me was "probably benign and good news." New vet told me tumor (external) had been there for quite a while (under tail) but they never saw it at two different physical check ups! I got an email today that told me the wellness plan was going up six dollars and I did the math out and I'm paying a couple extra hundred dollars a year for this plan and my dog doesn't really require anymore so I called and spoke to an ignorant guy on the phone and he charged me $100 to cancel and I am less than thrilled and extremely disappointed. I also have nothing bad to say about banfield at this time but the Owp and their "rules" is completely ridiculous. read more

This office is very unprofessional and lacks customer service. The staff didn't greet us or ask us for our dog's name for minutes after walking in. The ladies at the front desk are rude and change appointments without notifying you. I will never go back. Awful. read more

I brought our pup home in April and immediately called Banfield/PetSmart for a wellness check. They told me the soonest they could get me in was the Saturday before Memorial Day. Considering my puppy would be over 12 weeks old at that time, I decided to take him elsewhere for his first set of shots. I went ahead and scheduled an appointment for 6/19 which would be around the time his next set of shots would be due. On the 19th, I walked in and waited to be checked in only to be told that they had called the wrong number several times and that as a result of not receiving confirmation, they took in a sick puppy over mine. I let them know I had been waiting for the appointment since April and would be internationally traveling at the end of July and looking to board the puppy which can not happen if he doesn't have his shots. They schedule me for 7/8. I just got a phone call from explaining that they needed to reschedule because the doctor I was scheduled with did not have her RI license and would be moving to TX. They have nothing available prior to us leaving!! Needless to say I am beyond disappointed, angry and now inconvenienced! They don't care about the health of a new puppy, or a dog who's just been rescued - if they did they would have separate slots for these pets instead of first come first serve and preference with existing customers over potential new ones. The team at Banfield in Johnson Rhode Island are the best. They treat my dog as if he was their own. Kaitlyn has kept my Zues comfortable when i had to drop him off. He took a liking to her quick. She would sit in his cage with him so he would not cry for me. I love her for that. Susan is usually the wonderful woman on the phone and behind the desk. She greets Zues as he is pulling me their way, to step on that scale and get his treat. They are absolutely the best team and i would never bring any animal anywhere else. The doctors answer all questions and if they think a specialist is needed they let you. Upfront pricing with the wellness plans, no office visit charge and that's great. read more

Truly don't feel comfortable bringing my pet here anymore and am going to be looking into cancelling my wellness plan. I've been bringing my dog here since he was a puppy. I especially don't feel comfortable that most of the services are drop off only while they knowingly employ and refuse to fire Dr.Oliver who has been through several animal cruelty claims. After seeing photos of animals that have been harmed by her there is absolutely no way those photos are doctored and to claim that they are and that these claims are false is not only an insult but incredibly alarming. There is a video of her kicking a dog it has been documented there is actual proof this is clearly not hearsay or lies. It's SICKENING that Banfield would choose to align themselves and stick by someone that truly doesn't deserve to be a vet and clearly doesn't care about the well-being of animals. My pet is my baby and I absolutely will never bring them here with vets like this employed. read more

Update to previous review (added a star). So pet med prices are matched within 30 days of visit. You must bring printed out proof of med price from online pharmacy (include shipping) and they will match price. Note that it must be exact brand. The branch was made aware of this policy and refunded me for difference in one medication. I couldn't find exact brand of other one online. I will most likely revisit due to the great customer service follow up and price match guarantee. read more

today was Lucy's vet appointment at the Johnston banfield location.... to be honest my overall experience there was great the girls at the front desk were nice and informative, when we went back to see the vet she was also very nice to both Lucy and I .... Lucy got the works done and they went over results right then and there no waiting days for a phone call , for the amount of things we did in this appointment the price was very reasonable and fair! They give you a print out after each appointment and give you the cost-by-cost breakdown if you didn't have the wellness plan - how much you'd actually be spending... Didn't have time to see my pet when he was having trouble breathing. My chi was a patient their for 5 yrs and 3 of the nearby Bansfield's would not take him cuz they had no time! He DIED!!!!!! Awful, Awful, Awful customer service. My husband called to get the Vet Assistant's name to file a formal complaint with Banfield. They would not provide him with her name. Looking back, after dealing with this woman, it was a blessing in disguise that I was not able to leave my dog with her. If this is how she treats her customers then I can't imagine how the animals are treated. I do not recommend the Banfield Hospital at the PetSmart in Johnston. The woman I dealt with had light brown hair, pulled back and wore a consistent frown to match her female dog personality. My youngest daughter was given a nice lesson on how awful people can be treated as customers. I was frankly in shock. I'm amazed that she treats people with such disregard and still has a job there. I got my dog in January and signed her up right away because I was told she needed to get spayed right away. Well it is the end of April and she is on a waiting list with no date in sight. She is 8 months old. They are short of help. She travels with me as a Emotional Support dog and is airports etc with other male dogs. My dog and my grandsons dog are always having to go to the Warwick Hospital because they do not have room for sick visits. I called the corporate office today and they tried to help and were unsuccessful. They got no where with the Johnston office. But I still have to pay my contract even though they cannot give me a spayed appointment as of yet because they are short help. Never go there... The staff is wonderful. Loves my dog and my grandsons dog. They treat me good when I am there. However management seems to be the issue and problem at that store. Warwick is so much better. I also had to take her to MA hospital they were very accommodating to her first visit within 2 days of arrival... Stay away from the Johnston hospital. read more

I had scheduled this drop off visit nearly a month in advance. During the time before the appointment, I had scheduled an orthopedic surgery for Rose at OSVS for 3/25/21. Since this would be the last vet appointment before her surgery, I wanted to make sure the doctor knew she was going for the surgery, and to make notes of her current status so we could compare after the surgery. The vet tech that checked us in just brushed this off. Then I was notified that the doctor Rose was supposed to see was in surgery for the morning and was told it would be 'longer than usual.' 'Usually' a visit takes barely an hour. This visit took 6 hours. 6 hours that I waited in my car with no updates. It wasn't until I went in around 1pm and sat in the waiting room, the same vet tech who checked us in saw me and asked if I was just waiting to check out/pick up. I said yes but that I also had not received a call from the doctor yet. He told me he would check on the situation, which I appreciated. He returned not even 2 minutes later, stating that the vet Rose was supposed to see had just gotten out of surgery and would be with Rose shortly. I said okay and continued to wait. Not even 2-3 minutes passes and he magically appears with Rose, who was shaken and nervous from what I can only imagine was being in a kennel for 5+ hours around other loud and nervous dogs. He stated "doctor said she looks good!" Still no call from the vet. We checked out and headed home, frustrated and anxious. Today I received the offer to fill out a survey about my experience, and I would like to say... still no call from the vet and a whole lotta nothing on her medical report from yesterday. I'm starting to wonder if she was ever actually seen. When I was asked to give an explanation the person on the phone turned the situation around on ME for not setting aside enough time for my animal to be seen, who I would assume is an HR rep. Months earlier she was prescribed a pain medication for her deformed legs that she did not even need. When given the correct disease she began pooping a lot of blood. Very dissatisfied and disappointed. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE TOUCH YOUR ANIMAL EVER. You will 100% regret it. read more

Really a very nice vet. Convenient location right in the pet store. Exam rooms are very clean, staff is really nice and helpful. The vets are knowledgable and are very good with the animals. Get one of the Pet Plans, I have the Puppy Plan for $36 a month, covers all the regular office visits and about 95% of what my dog needs INCLUDING the neutering! The neutering alone can run upwards of $400-500, but its 100% covered in the plan. And once he's a year old the monthly price drops about $10. Much better than going to a regular vet and paying $150-200 each visit, definitely worth it ESPECIALLY if you have a puppy since they are at the vet pretty regularly in the first year. read more

So disappointed. We were told by friends in Tennessee how great Banfield Pet Hospital was. So when we got our labs home we enrolled both in the Wellness plan. So far we have received 2 months of heart worm and flea and tick medication. When we signed onto the Wellness plans we set it up to be mailed to our house, but because we picked it up ONCE in the office, DUE TO THEIR FAILURE TO MAIL IT OUT TO US they said it would from then on have to be picked up in store. I called and got someone who "understands" but got no resolve. Spoke with manager, still no resolve. I was told I had to call corporate to get it changed from pickup to delivery! Why should the client have to do their job? Called corporate, left message, no return call from them nor the store manager. I need to get my lab spayed. Made an appointment two months ago, hAd to cancel. Tried to make another at 3 different Banfield locations. Evidently they need to hire more staff Vets and technicians, as there are no appointments till the end of September, which at that point my lab will have gone through a second heat cycle which I was trying desperately to avoid, again nothing but I'm sorries. My husband is at the store in Johnston right now trying to pick up our flea/tick and heart worm medication. He was told we would have to pay out of pocket wtf!!! We are on the Wellness plan, it is supposed to be mailed, we do not get it in the mail!!! They told my husband they mailed out a four month supply in March, this is August for heavens sake. We have two dogs, that is good for two months!!!! AND I picked up a months worth in June and had to pay out of pocket for that. Got no deliveries in July, called them and was told we had to come in and pick it up. Oh I finally get it, besides the outrageous high mark-up on their medications, it s a way to get double payed for the preventative meds. We WILL NOT BE RENEWING OUR WELLNESS PLANS. THIS IS ASININE TO THE 12th degree. We are all done with Banfield. Looks like this company needs to get their shit together, or they are going to keep losing customers quickly. I do have to say that the Vets and the Vet Techs are great. They listen to concerns and address them. They are courteous, friendly, and so helpful. They just need more of them. read more
