Robyn was my stylist and I have to say she is incredible!!! I haven't had a haircut in over a year. I have long thick hair and Robyn was an absolute champ! I'm impressed with the ambiance, the vibe and how professional and knowledgeable Robyn is! I've never had a hairstylist go over color swatches options and explain the different tones, richness and base colors with me. After that, I trusted her completely with the color choice as well as what cut would work best with my hair and face shape. Each stylist has their sheers and shavers laid out ready to work their magic. The place is open, bright and great music is played. There is no pressure, not stuffy, super laid back and you feel welcome there. The stylists are super friendly and laid back. I also was observing Brandy, another stylist there. She had several male clients and man she does amazing work as well!! Anything from trendy to high and tight. I was going to Mitchell's Salon for 8+ years. Really wish I didn't have to leave a bad review because I've had good experiences here before and everyone is really friendly at the salon but I recently had a bad haircut and dye job here. The roots were splotchy and overdeveloped and the layers were very choppy and stacked. I went back in to get it fixed and my layers ended up being even worse and way shorter. I ended up just going home and cutting off like 5 inches of my hair to match the layers :/ now my hair is half its length after years of growing it out and I'm bummed about it. read more

My stylist, Robyn, was super patient and worked with me to figure out what I was looking for. My hair turned out even better than I'd hoped! I got a trim and there was no option to just charge for a trim so they charged a haircut - I got a color bayalage and it wasn't as good as the one I got in Texas - the hair artist bleached my hair after a few washes I could see the color was lighter but I would have liked it if my whole top head was blonder- I see a lot of black still in my hair in the back and in the roots it wasn't layered as well as the hair service I got on Groupon in Dallas. It was a decent color but not the best bayalage I could have received. I did get good service and a deep conditioning treatment for my hair as requested. Inside the interior was beautiful and I enjoyed the music and the atmosphere. I would recommend just haircuts here. read more

Major shout out to JJ for doing an amazing job on my hair. As most women wanting a short haircut will tell you the stylist seems to take some convincing that yes, you really do want it that short and no, you won't freak out. I've had a pixie many times in my life before but it's always the same reassurances that I really do know what I want. Not with JJ. I told him I wanted it longer on top with an undercut, showed him some pictures, and then he got to work. He was fantastic about checking in throughout to make sure it was looking how I wanted, thoroughly explained what products he was using, why and how he was using them, plus the conversation was excellent. Oh, and did I mention that I LOVE my haircut? On top of all that the price was great. Tina is incredible! Cutting hair for her is more like art than a job. I felt like I got the best haircut in my life. It just brought out my personality and made my hair look exactly how I always wanted it to. I've previously had plenty of super disappointing experiences with other expensive and trendy hairdressers, who would leave me with some pathetic soccer mom cut maybe because I'm not a very talkative person. My experience at Bang Bang was just the opposite! Tina was genuinely interested in making my hair look beautiful without judging or trying to "box in" my personality. After receiving a botched hair cut, my partner returned and had to have them fix it. She also left him covered in hair! He had to ask her to wipe it off his face. I'm incredibly disappointed in the ego of the owner, and there lack of empathy. I asked for a refund- which was informed they have a policy to fix it- but at this point I've wasted more time then it was ever worth to begin with. Not to mention he went around looking like a fool until then- which none of them would do.. Just save your time and money and go to great clips or Babylon Salon. I got my hair done December 4th. I wanted to get a split dye done on my hair. At the time my hair was blonde with regrowth. My hair is naturally really dark so I knew when the split dye was gonna be done the blonde side was going to look a little wonky because the roots won't match the rest of my hair. I knew it was going to be a darker color. But I left the salon with orange roots and it was splotchy. I went home with it because I thought it was just the lighting. When I got home I made sure to take pictures and videos. The side that was dyed brown didn't match my natural root color which was specifically what I asked for but I didn't make a big deal about it. I'm more worried about the blonde side. I emailed the owner and no response for about a week. I called the store and one of the stylists answered and told me they will give the owner my number to call me. She called me the next day or 2 days after. She refused to refund me for the blonde side and told me that if I had dark hair it was going to be orange but I told her it just needed to be toned and that I had to go to a different salon to get it toned. She then said "well you could have gotten it fixed at the salon by the same stylists". It took her too long to get in contact with me so I had to get my hair fixed somewhere else and she still didn't acknowledge that my roots were splotchy. I to her she can look at the pictures and videos in my email. She said she would call me after she looks at the email and let me know what choices we have to do but she refuses to refund me. It's been about a month since I got my hair done. I haven't heard from her since that phone call. read more

This is apparently the newest rendition of East McMillan's Bang Bang Salon--has only been open a month or so--and the staff at McMillan, which has amazing reviews, assured me that the Short Vine location was "the same." I called and got a same-day appointment (the last one, though, so next time, I'll try to plan ahead). Loved the kind and fun stylists, my expert haircut, the affordable price, the beautiful space, the gorgeous building, the hip vibe, and the stylist-made cookies being offered just because. I told the stylist what I wanted - to have my hair cleaned up but to lose as little length as possible - and she proceeded to cut my hair short, and take all the length off the back. It doesn't look bad, in fact it's a good looking haircut. But it's straight-up not what I asked for. I don't know why I go to Bang Bang after going a month or 2 without a haircut. I'm always happy with the length but don't want it to be messy/unruly. No matter who cuts my hair, they always cut it short and don't seem to hear when I say "trim." The haircuts never look bad, but I would not recommend going to Bang Bang if you only want a trim. read more

Really nice environment and nice people, but not at ALL what I wanted. I went in for toner and told Olga I wanted only my already existing highlights to go from brassy to a darker red to complement my natural light brown hair. Again, only wanted the highlights to be darkened. I left the salon with a COMPLETELY black head of hair that barely shone red in direct sunlight. Olga said it would lighten up by the next week to reveal my natural hair color again, but it stayed the same black for MONTHS. Absolutely not what I wanted. Completely disappointing experience and almost $100 that's I'm still paying to have corrected. read more

I went to Bang Bang after not having professional work done to my hair in quite a long time, except home box dyes.... Jay Jay was patient as I didn't have any idea what I wanted, except for my hair to look better. He came up with the idea for color, the cut, and executed it all flawlessly. I am so happy that I went here and that I landed with the best stylist I have ever seen. I'll definitely be back. Oh, and the shampoo was definitely five stars too. I had a horrible experience here a few days ago. I originally had a Saturday appointment with Izzy at the McMillan salon (to get a balayage for my wedding which was only two weeks away...) but when I got to the salon, the stylists working there said that she wouldn't be coming in and that she had been dropping her weekend appointments for a few weeks. I made the appointment in mid-July and received absolutely no heads-up about her cancellation of my appointment. I have had a balayage with her before and it was incredible (which is why I scheduled with her in the first place), so it was extremely disappointing that she was a no-show. The stylists called over to this salon (on Vine) and said that someone was able to see me so I drove over there right away because I needed to get my hair done due to the closeness of my wedding. When I got there, the staff was friendly and accommodating and I was able to be seen right away. I showed my stylist (a "blonde specialist") my reference photo and they assured me that I would walk away looking similar to the photo. By the end of the appointment, my hair looked nothing like the reference photo and the blonde, ombre, smudgy, grown-out balayage that I asked for was red, icy, bleached far too high, and not consistent at all. The salon was closing as it was past 5pm and I had to leave, so I just paid, left, and tried to convince myself that it wasn't that bad. By the next day I was sure that this was unacceptable- my hair had chunky sections (reminiscent of a 2004 highlight/lowlight situation), was so red at the roots, and the blonde was one-tone and too bleached looking. I called the salon and the "manager" answered and after explaining the situation and insisting that I would need a refund rather than return to the salon to get it fixed, he told me that I could get a refund. The day after that, the same "manager" called me and just as I was calling back, texted me saying that Bang Bang actually has a no refund policy and the only way to remedy the situation was to come back in and have it fixed at the salon. This was not an option for me as I totally lost trust in them and my wedding was even closer. I asked to have the owner call me and after calling around, I finally spoke to the owner. In our conversation, she (understandably) tried to get me to come back in to fix it, but I told her that it wasn't going to happen because of how complexly terrible the situation was. She also told me that she doesn't have managers at the salon- which means that the person who told me that they've been a salon manager for a year was not actually a manager at all. The only saving grace to this situation was that they refunded me for the service and for that I am grateful. read more

Great prices and I was very pleasantly surprised with my haircut. I needed a last minute cut and was directed to try this location when my usual salon was booked. When I came in it was like a ghost-town so I was a little nervous but Brandy took great care of me and wasn't pushy with the small talk. I feel like every stylist has just taken the easy route with my hair (long bob) even though I always emphasize that I would love it all chopped off. Well this was really important to me this time and I'm so thankful for work that Brandy did to thin out all the hair that has been frustrating me. Now I can just wash and go literally or get a more sleek look with just a little styling. My husband is never impressed but really loves it. I went for the first time to Bang Bang Salon on Short Vine for a cut. I have thick hair that needs to be understood, and I was so lucky to have Mason do this for me. The salon is casual, but I felt very at home there. Men came in for cuts as well while I was there. Mason took her time, looking carefully at the texture of my hair, and talked to me about the amount of length we were going to take off so there were no surprises. Afterwards we did a blow-dry and I left feeling great. The prices were the best part of all! For a great haircut in a comfortable salon by a professional who was very friendly at a price even better than expected...I strongly recommend you try this out. Right after I left I went to do a little shopping, and was stopped by someone I didn't know who told me how much she liked my hair! Win! Keep in mind that this is Short Vine and depending on the time, you might need to give yourself a minute or two to find parking. This is my second visit with Brandy at Bang Bang Salon. She does a really professional job and takes her time on the cut and color. I've been to other salons that over style your hair afterwards and it's impossible to tell if the cut has been done right until you get home, shampoo it and see....that it wasn't done right.
