    Peanut curry noodles with chicken
    Wincy S.

This is a surprising hidden gem in Kitchener, located in a small plaza and easily overlooked from the street. A local friend brought up the place and we decided to go for an impromptu dinner on a Saturday night for a party of seven. The restaurant is small and decor is simple, but it is clean, still modern, and welcoming. The menu features classic Thai dishes from appetizers, noodles, curries, to dessert. Most noodles and curries are one price with choice of meat or veggie toppings, and seafood at an additional cost. Spice level ranges from no spice to "top of the line" (in between levels welcome), with medium comparable to hot elsewhere. I tried the peanut curry noodles with chicken at a mild minus spice level, which featured rice noodles with a Thai peanut sauce with coconut, topped with ground peanuts and bean sprouts, and a slight spice kick. There was lots of noodle and lots of sauce - it reminded me of a cream sauce with spaghetti pasta. It reminded me a bit of mac n cheese because of the sauce flavour and thickness, but in a good way. I don't know about authenticity, but it was flavourful and tasty, offering good texture variety between the noodle, peanuts, and bean sprouts. The coconut and peanut sauce flavours stood out to me at a reasonable balance and didn't overpower the dish. The spice level fit me perfectly, I imagine the typical spice eater will find the mild to medium range to be the ideal sweet spot. The portion was also great value for money. For my friends, they ordered pad thai, curry noodles, and the Thai peanut noodles, and all of them looked to be some variation of rice noodles in a sauce at a varying spice level. The curry noodles were a bit salty, the Thai peanut was similar to my peanut curry, and the pad thai was generic (though definitely not the bright red westernized rendition). Everybody enjoyed the food and the flavours, though really we all got essentially the same thing. Overall, service was a bit slow at first as there's limited staff, but still tolerable and very friendly. They made sure to keep glasses filled with water, and were timely in checking up on needs. Definitely somewhere I'd return to for more authentic Thai food in Kitchener, but nothing stood out to me as a five-star wow factor.

Pad sew noodle drenched in whatever salty sauce it comes with. Broccolis were only 10% cooked and the beef was pretty tough to chew.

The Kow Pad Prik has a lot of flavour (despite the main contents being rice, egg, and broccoli) and is a great option for vegetarians.

We started with the satay chicken and dumplings, and both were really good--flavorful and well-prepared. One thing to note: when they say spicy, they really mean it! I have a pretty high spice tolerance, and even at the third level of heat it was very spicy--but also really tasty. I had a chili chicken dish that wasn't the most authentic, but I still enjoyed the flavors. My husband ordered the chicken Pad Thai, and he wasn't the biggest fan of it. Overall, while it may not be the most traditional Thai spot, it's a decent place if you're looking for bold flavors and a bit of spice. P.s. it's all halal

It was also decorated nicely with lanterns on the ceiling. You order at the counter and either takeout or dine in. The food was fresh and comforting. I tried the red curry with chicken. It came with rice and I also got spring rolls on the side. The curry was lacking a bit of flavour in my opinion and the rice was a little dry but overall it was still tasty. The spring rolls were good too. Some of the portions were a little small given the price however. The service was great and the cooks came and checked in with us to make sure everything was good which was nice as this wasn't a restaurant with servers.

This is such a cute hole in the wall place!…read more Located underneath the Sage building on Spruce, there is very little parking but some nonetheless at the side where King Tin is. When you enter the restaurant you'll see long tables, high top tables and then a large counter. This is a restaurant that lets you practice your social skills to share tables with others. You must order from the counter and then they'll bring the food to you. WiFi available. Daily specials available as well. They have a self serve water pitcher if you'd like to drink water and not order anything else. Ordered: Red curry with chicken Came with a large portion of rice. Curry was spicy with a little sweet after taste. Coconut milk, large chicken pieces, veg, bamboo shoots... this was delicious! Green curry with chicken Tastes a little creamier than the red. Ingredients are about the same. Very good. Slight Spiciness. Panang curry with beef Lots of veg. Very mild curry flavour. Prob my fave curry dish so far. Tom kha soup? This is a coconut milk chicken broth soup with pieces of mushrooms and we added shrimp. This is a very mild soup. It's not bad. But not my fave. Thai iced tea is sweet. Very very yum. It's not on their menu but for sure something worth ordering! A hidden gem in Waterloo. Very good Thai food.

The place is so cute, fun atmosphere and easy ordering. They have daily specials and a 10% student discount which make the already affordable dishes even more value. There are games on the table to play while you're waiting for food, and service is great. Definitely going to be coming in to eat more often! I got the Thai spicy noodle soup, and it wasn't really that spicy which I really appreciated (but if you're craving spicy food maybe get the curry or add chilli oil). My other favourites include the pad Thai, the green curry, and the Tom yum soup.
