Pad Thai has a weird smell to it. The taste is also too sweet but also too sour at the same time somehow. The restaurant seems very whitewashed as well but makes sense because it's not near the student population. The pad Thai was a huge portion though, enough for 2 meals. read more

We ordered the dinner special for 2 and really enjoyed our meal. My favorites were the veggie spring rolls and the Pad Thai but all parts were good. We got the red curry with chicken which was the right amount of spice for me. I think next time I would try a different meat option. read more

Update: Tried this place again for the Thai Spicy stir fry with hot and sour soup and was quite unimpressed. The thai spicy was made with a coconut sauce which is fine however it tasted TOO overly sweet, as if they added more sugar to the dish. I could not finish it. The hot and sour soup was also overly sweetened and more like a sweet and sour soup. Next time I order here I'll stick with the curry pad thai, pho or appetizers and NOT any of the sweet stir fried dishes read more

This restaurant is probably one of the best ones in the Waterloo/Kitchener area. It's rare to find decent food and most restaurants fail to hit the mark more often than not. However, Red Ginger delivers with their almost authentic rendition of Thai food. The last few times I've been I've had the fried rice. The pad Thai is a little too sweet but not terrible. The staff is very friendly and helpful and you'll have a hard time finding another Thai restaturant in the area that hits that perfect sweet/salty/spicy combination characteristic of Thai food. The worst pad Thai ever! I ordered the chicken pad Thai off of ubereats. It was so sweet and it was literally just noodles. It was very heavy, not a lot of bean sprouts or other vegetables. And it was not balanced at all it was just very sweet like ketchup. I definitely do not recommended getting their pad Thai. read more

Ok let me start with the servers, they were bad. One couldnt explain any of the dishes and the other were dropping food at tables while serving. Does it get any better? Honestly No, maybe some hue of grays. The calamari we ordered was outright horrible, very oily, batter and squid had no flavour. Moving on to the soup: Tom Yum: Not good, barely any vegetables in it. Even at a franchise place like Behn Thahn you get better Tom Yum. I ordered the Pho, talking about gray, this dish wasnt bad. Based on my experience, I will say stay away from the soup, the lunch dishes may be better a choice (I didnt try them). However I dont think I will ever try this place in the future. read more

We arrived at Red Ginger at 8:23 PM on a Wednesday night eager to check out their food. A sign on the door basically says they won't let you in after 8:30 PM. We ordered food and it started to arrive around 8:35. The waiter comes at 8:50 pm and tells us they're closed in 10 minutes. Basically told us we'd be booted out in 10 minutes. He should have warned us about this when we came in. We weren't that far from being done but this lack of service will make it impossible to return when they are other establishments who will treat us well. I have been to other restaurants that have a cut off time for ordering but they allow you to finish your meal. Not cool. The spring rolls were starchy inside, the chicken satay was dry and bland but had a tasty sauce, and the wontons were good. The other food was ordinary. read more

Not to mention the owners of both locations (brothers) could care less about the quality of their food nor do they have any customer service skills. After serving a large group of my family Thai takeout from Red Ginger last night, my parents immediately swore off getting Chinese take out ever again. By my (Indian) family's account, the best stuff was the Green Curry with chicken, Fish Curry, Golden Curry with chicken, coconut rice, and Thai spicy noodles. Green curry chicken was my personal favourite, as it had a nice subtle heat, and the sweet coconut sticky rice is something my wife and I will need a portion of each every trip to Red Ginger from now on. We weren't as enamoured with the Duck Curry with leechee (not sure I liked those textures together) or the tamarind stir fry (too far on the tangy side for me), but those were still tasty enough to be mostly consumed. Now that the curries have prepped my parents' palate for Thai, I look forward to when we can go sit in the restaurant and try out more of the menu! read more

Very disappointed. Went here for a quick bite while out of town before meeting a client. Was going to go to a Vietnamese restaurant that I'd been to before but thought I'd give this a try instead. Wish I hadn't. I had the pork vermicelli bowl as my main which wasn't awful but not great. What was awful where the crispy pork spring rolls. I'm used to having Vietnamese crispy rolls that are indeed crispy and packed full of goodness. These however were packed mostly what seemed to be mashed potato. Come on! Really! I kid you not, 90% mashed potato. I saw no evidence of veges in there of any kind as stated by the menu description. "Deep-fried pastry rolls filled with ground pork, carrots, taro, black fungus mushroom, cabbage, bamboo shots and glass noodles served with a sweet chili sauce." I thought I had ordered the wrong thing. I've been to several Thai restaurants and countless Vietnamese restaurants, but when I see a restaurant that specializes in more than one international cuisine, I generally raise an eyebrow. Red Ginger showed up on my Yelp map when we were looking for a dinner spot nearby, and we decided to give it a try. Agree with other reviews - the restaurant wasn't full but they were getting a lot of calls for pick up and walk-ins for take out. Initially there was only one wait staff, and she was busy as can be. We were left unattended for about 10min. Then a second staff came out and everything was a lot better. We tried their $27 dinner special - two veggie spring rolls, a mango salad, a chicken pad Thai, and a curry with rice. Everything was really really great! Really good value for the money too! Thought about taking away a star for the initial slow service but the food more than made up for it. We asked for a take out menu and will definitely return! read more

Never busy inside, seems to do a good takeout business. The first few times we ate here the food was great, well seasoned, good portions, and fresh tasting. The last time we went the food seemed bland. The server asked us, and the table near us if the food was too spicy, so I can only assume they were getting complaints. I came here on a Saturday and found the place to be quite busy along with a lot of take-out orders. Our server was friendly and helpful with explaining the menu. The menu has a variety of Thai, Cantonese and Viet choices. I tried one of the noodle dishes and there was a good portion for the price. I don't understand why this place is always so dead - I swear, they have the most amazing curry pad thai ever. It's SO good. I would strongly recommend ordering the curry pad thai over the original pad thai. This place is great, the food is delicious, the service is awesome and the interior is very clean. I hope this place never closes down, the pad thai is just too good LOL. I do have to be honest and say I haven't tried anything on the menu besides the calamari and pad thai though (both of which are very good). read more

I am removing a star based on the fact that the interior definitely needs some refurbishing. The seats of the booths are very worn and the shells are almost shredded. As for the food, the lunch specials can't be beat. For the money, you can't beat the quality. The cashew stir fry with chicken is excellent. The spring rolls are super.
