The person I was given was extremely slow. it took her 6 hours to do shoulder length boho braids and she missed some of my hair leaving it out side the braid. My boho braids look awful because she did not put enough loose hair at the top only at the bottom of the braids. This hair shop is not worth the time or the cost. read more

Omg this was my first and last visit. First of all my appt was at 9 am. Queen was an hour late. Metered parking so had to find parking shady looking area Not only hour late her daughter accompanied her for the entire time I was there I felt like I was at Wal-Mart loud bad ass kids screaming and what not. No I dont like that!!! Too much abd queen did Nothing at one point little girl right behind me in her lap or something No no no understandable single parent also children should be given something to do. Not only that queen on the damn phone from beginning to end RUDE !!!! If you need go to restroom bring your own tp i was given paper towel Seriously I hate my hair looks crap not what I requested waste of my time and hard earned money. I will retract all of my previous statements about this lady as she is a miserable troll who is extremely unprofessional and lacks and business ethics. From the newly added pictures you will see this lady (for sake of a better word) had the nerve to be up super early in the morning trolling my pictures because of my honest review. Unlike the rest of the reviews that talked bad about her because I clearly see NOW she's a poor business woman who unfortunately will never thrive until she can understand how to conduct business and accept constructive criticism. If I was less then a woman who actually supported black businesses I would report her to state board with the conditions her shop is in. Humble yourself queen just because you can braid fast doesn't mean your good! Get over yourself. Do better so you can remain in business to support your child as opposed to throwing tempter tantrums on your clients page at this rate your ruining your own business hence ALL the other reviews. The service received from Phoenix Salon Suites Suite #103 Gaithersburg Maryland Banka Hair Braiding/Queentabel Banka was absolutely UNETHICAL and DEPLORABLE. Not even sure where I should start since the whole experience was just awful. The only positive thing was that the manager of Phenix Suites really tried to help me get my money back which isn't necessarily her role, but she understood the impact of dishonest service. I called in for the appointment and she stated that she was available. I arrived at the time she wanted me at the salon and I still waited almost an hour. She then drops her elementary aged daughter off at the front door to let me in her suite while she found a park. When she finally comes into the suite, she tells me that we'll need to walk over to BEAUTY 4U to get the crochet hair (that was fine with me). She then starts to talk about how I'm such a nice person and thanks me for being patient with her running errands and taking her daughter to get McDonald's. She talked about how she won the lottery to come to the US from Cameroon and she's a God fearing woman. I could go on, but you get the gist of it all. We finally get over to the BEAUTY 4U which is in the same plaza, but across the parking lot. Soon as we get into the store she starts talking to strangers and telling them not to buy their wigs etc from there because she also sells hair and could give better deal. Basically, she walked into the store and started stealing customers from BEAUTY 4U. For the other folks that were getting braids, she was telling them to come see her for service and hair then started passing out her cards. A poor business practice that I should have just paid more attention to vs. just following her around as we made our way to the section we should have gone directly to in the first place. As we headed back to her shop, she kept saying to me, if I'm not happy with my hair she would give me my money back. That gave me some comfort and I then felt that maybe she is truly an upstanding person. Welp, as she was doing my hair one of the customs from the BEAUTY 4U store came in and she too was from Cameroon. Needless to say, I shared with her that my hair wasn't looking like the requested style and she kept saying to trust her, when it's done it'll look great. I forgot to mention that she felt the need to blow dry my already straightened and dried hair. When she blow dried it, it literally felt like she was trying to snatch all of my hair out of my head. I have thick, hair that falls below my shoulders which is why I made sure my hair was straightened. When she did the braid down, I asked her to not braid my edges she then proceed to pull the hair out of the braid without unbraiding it first. That's a sure way to go bald and not have edges for the rest of your days!! When she finished I literally looked like a lion...the hair was heavy on my head, the braids were unbearably tight, and she swore it looked great. Because she had a new customer and I wanted to respect individual experiences I just paid her with the note to discuss my satisfaction later that day. I did it based on her being an honest person who has a God-like spirit (those are her words, not mine...only repeating her statement). When it came time for her to refund me my money. She was no longer the God fearing women she presented herself to be. I reached out to her several times to request my monies and she ignored my request. I then reached out to the Phoenix Suiets management to report her but since each suite is an independent business they could only talk with her about honoring her word to the customer and she still refused. This lady is NOT a skilled braider, does not take hair care into account, does not honor her word and is an absolute thief. She was provided notice that I was not happy and did not honor her word to refund me my monies. I would not recommend her to my worst enemy. Lastly, she had a hat on the entire time she was doing my hair. When she took off her hat I noticed that her hair was extremely short, dry and she had no edges. I have never been to a place and received such poor service and disrespect. I've gotten my done in people's living rooms and received better service. She was talking over me the entire time, took about 10 breaks, so unprofessional. That I could stand, but what really was a deal breaker was how she tried to hustle me after she was done. On her StyleSeat it clearly states $100 for box braids. At the beginning she proceeds to tell me that with my thickness of hair and the hair she purchased my total would be $140. I agreed, ok. Even though on StyleSeat it gives you the option to put different prices. This was strike one of the shadyness, changing the price. So after she was done I give her the $140 and she says, "what about the money for your hair?" WHAT?? The only amount we discussed was $140. Box braids on StyleSeat says $100, she used 4 packs of hair that were allegedly $10/pack=$140. She wanted to charge me an additional $50. I have never been treated so badly. I even took her to the store when I got there. She could not produce a receipt for the alleged $10 per pack hair. I was not surprised to come here and see how many people were not pleased with the lady's service. What I am surprised by is how similar all of our stories are. She is a scam artist. Her work is mediocre, at best. Her website says $100 for box braids, you get to the shop its all of a sudden it's $150. She started doing my hair an HOUR late. She complained about how thick my hair was the entire time, and even said a 5 star yelp review and tip was required since I didn't tell her how thick my hair is. It was so unprofessional. She stopped for 40 mins to do another walk-in's hair. Even though I had an appointment. She chose to do smaller braids than what i requested, without discussing it with me and then tried to charge me that price which was $200. Some braids she braided all the way to the end some braids she stopped braiding halfway, i had to braid the rest when i got home..where is my tip? I am in no way tender headed but she was overly aggressive and with my hair. i paid her what we agreed on which was the $150 and i went about my day and took those braids out less than 2 weeks later. waste of time and money.
