Mai Chi at Bubbles Hair Salon is absolutely amazing! My daughter and I went to see her on Sunday, and we both left very happy. She did a wonderful job with my daughter's haircut, and an even more incredible job with my hair and highlights. This was my first time going blonde--I had always wanted to try it but never felt brave enough. Mai Chi worked her magic and made me feel completely comfortable throughout the process. Noemi gave me a cute haircut and great blow out with lots of layers and volume. It was cute so I rate it a solid four stars. My hair felt too long beforehand and I just wanted to shorten it. The people were nice. The salon inside is a bit old and not so clean...with a wax machine that is too smoky or scuffs on the mirrors ... so keep your expectations in check! First time visit and the stylist was nice and I am happy with hair but unlikely to return. Friction evident between associates and it was not a relaxing atmosphere. You get what you pay for and cheaper is not always better but if cost important to you - go here. If you are Black and want your hair cut absolutely avoid this location at all cost. The olney location is much better. I spoke with the manager Natasha by phone and was treated by her. My hair stylist cancelled last minute and I desperately needed someone to cut me. I discovered the manager was Black and hair dresser when I got in there. She was the only Black one there, was USELESS when I was asking questions about who could do my hair. The front desk young man (Black) was more helpful than her. Rather than her a wash and cut as I initially wanted, I just opted for a dry cut. The Asian hair dresser did her best. I have to coach her throughout the entire trim that was my cut. It looked very unfinished and was charged $52 for work that I will have to pay someone else to clean up. What made matters worse the Black manager Natasha kept giving me a stank look the entire time she watched her stylist be coached by me. All in all I will never return. read more

Bubbles Salon is Open!!! I was ecstatic to hear that Bubbles Salon has reopened (by appointment only) amid COVID-19. My hair definitely needed a refresh - cut, color, and blow out. Anakin is my go-to guy! He is an amazing hair colorist and stylist. He's very personable, remembers your hair styling every time, and is very experienced and talented. You can tell Bubbles Salon (Home Depot Square) is taking health safety very seriously with COVID-19. Clients are extremely spread out, everyone wears masks and/or face shields, there is hand sanitizer throughout the salon for customers and employees, the stations are immaculately clean, and are sprayed with a disinfectant. Wonderful experience from start to finish! I came in for the first time to get a haircut, asking for long layers and long face-framing pieces. I've been getting my hair done at several Bubbles locations for the last 10 years (and many more to come). For the last 2 years I have only done hair color with Anakin. He is the most knowledgeable hairstylist, colorists and extremely artistic when it comes to understanding what are your hair needs and delivering. Anakin is a great listener, he not only listened to me but also gave me the honest advice and expertise given that my hair is very fine and also curly. He kindly recommended what was right for me. Bubbles is back! Home Depot Square is open! I went this evening and had an awesome experience, as always, with Anikin! He always gives me pointers on how to style my hair, what color would look best, and is super friendly and funny! He also recommends products without being pushy. I've been going to him now for six years, and I always leave feeling wonderful! Due to COVID-19, everyone in the salon is compelled to wear a mask and maintain all social distancing guidelines. If you ask, staff can give you a disposable one so that yours doesn't get wet or stained by dye. Hand sanitizer is available at the front desk! Overall, I felt really comfortable and glad that the salon was taking every effort to clean in between, and during, appointments! read more

Anikin is RUDE AS FUCK DO NOT BOOK HIM. I was super nice as I am with everyone especially since this is my first appointment with him but he was super catty. When I sat down with him I asked if he's ever worked with curly hair before and he said "Yes... would you like for someone else to do your hair???" WTF. So I said no, I was just asking and he said "Oh well, just let me know" all with an attitude... I don't know what's wrong with this dude but don't book him if you want to be treated with respect and like a PAYING customer. Also he's not good with curly hair at all, so if you need your hair flat ironed and you're black or mixed pick someone else. I have very curly hair that straightens nicely but when he finished it was frizzy and he has no clue what he's doing. I can't say enough good things about Noemy. While she is new to this Bubbles Salon she is definitely not new to me. What a gift it is to know she is BACK. After several attempts to replace her (impossible and frustrating) I went in yesterday and voila. She fixed everything, my color my cut and now I have a plan to get my hair back in shape. She just gets it. Great consultation, quick and sensitive to my time, and truly helpful with products afterwards. She really knows what she is talking about. Granted, she has been making magic with my hair for nearly twenty years, so she knows what I like and she knows what my hair can and can't do. My hair always turns out exactly how I want it going here. However, I will not be coming back because Noemy, my hairstylist was super unprofessional. She called me after my appointment yelling at me over the phone saying how the tip I left was too small and it was embarrassing and rude (I am 15 and had no control over the tip amount, plus already paid $200 for the service). That just seems so greedy and I am disgusted in her behavior. I had my hair lightened (highlighted) and dyed. She pulled on my hair so much and didn't even brush it before bleaching it so it made it more painful when she separated the hair into the foils. I told her to pull on my hair less about 5 times and she didn't change her behavior. Also, I had to wait for the bleach and color to process with my head back on the sink for about 30 minutes and that was very painful, but it was partially my fault for not speaking up. read more

Noemy was fantastic! I had two not-so-great hair experiences in the last year, so my hair has been at a low point! I was hoping to try again to get the lightened look I was looking for, so I decided to do extra research and try a larger salon. I found great reviews describing Noemy's attention to detail and expertise and a master designer, and booked an appointment with her for a cut and full bayalage/highlights with color (coppery red). Noemy was so great about asking lots of questions throughout the process, as her reviews mentioned, to make sure she knew what I was envisioning for the look (if I wanted highlights higher than my last style, if I wore my hair in a ponytail often, etc). She also took time to explain to me why she was doing certain things (like blending the highlights in my front hairline more so the color looked natural when my hair was up). She also was happy to use a product I brought with me and explained the best way to incorporate that product into my regular hair care routine. On top of this, Noemy was transparent about the pricing of what I was asking from the very beginning. As someone who carefully budgets for something like an intensive hair process--and who has rarely found stylists who are attuned to pricing concerns in the Bethesda area--I so, so appreciated that. I'm really happy with the look overall. I would recommend Noemy for a pleasant, careful, stress-free, and dependable hair experience. :) Unfortunately I don't have photos from the day my hair was done, but I will try to take some good ones and add them! read more

Make it make sense! I had a 2p.m. that I scheduled online. Online you can only schedule shampoo, blow dry and cut. Well I don't need a cut so the 1st thing I say to the receptionist is online I was unable to schedule just a shampoo & blow dry. She says that's fine and hands me off to a stylist who's name may have been Jannefer (or some weird spelling Jennifer). I again say to her shampoo and blow dry, so she says ok let me check the price. Somehow she arrives @$79. I have NEVER and will NEVER pay that when all you are doing is washing and blow drying this hair when I have not paid more than $48. Sometimes $36 but never $79. She says let me check with the manager. She goes to the back and possibly consults with herself to return with we don't set the prices. Gotcha but I have the same hair I have had every other time I have walked in those doors for this service. She goes to the back again to consult with herself or whoever to come back with well since you scheduled online...I stopped her mid sentence to and walked out. I am absolutely curious if I book one service online because your scheduling system won't allow me to book what I want are you not flexible and willing to appropriately charge? Good thing there are several Bubbles and Hair Cuttery salons in the area. And guess what I paid $36. RIDICULOUS!!!! I will remove Bubbles in Stonebridge at Potomac from places I occasionally visit. read more

I got the worst haircut I have ever got from this place. Not even close either, like legitimately the worst haircut of my life. Right before new years too, so that's awesome. If you are a guy-save yourself the embarrassment and go somewhere else. You know I'm going to yelp an update whenever I see the color alchemist Anakin ^_^ Welp, I didn't have time for my usual color/touch-up but I needed to chop off my mop. FYI if my hair almost touches my crack that means I'm lazy or its a crazy time. For those who read my reviews you know so let's leave it at that -_0 I haven't seen Anakin for about 10 months so imagine the hair weave length I've been draggin' in either loose casual braids or teased low ponytails. It got frustratingly real so the strands had to go. Apparently I'm requesting a popular cut which is called the "lob". I LOL'ed since it reminded me of my tennis dayz....good times. The "LOB" is a Long one-length shoulder bOB. It's a convenient cut since it's long enough to pull back when jogging/working out. Plus I either hairdry it straight or create loose curls w/a curling wand - so versatile. Maybe that's why it's a top request. Next time I will color my new 'do w/their popular iNOA goodie. It's the holiday season so I ran out of time. Shucks...the force wasn't w/me. Okay I'll stoppp NOTE: The lease for the Bubbles location inside Montgomery Mall will end in mid-January 2015 so some of their stylists including Anakin have settled in to their new address. It's next to the Westlake Post Office and across from the Home Depot. What a difference from the original location - more open space for both clients and stylists. Great job! read more

I went in for a trim, 2 inches off the bottom and evening it out. I'm a man that usually keeps his hair in a bun, they told me they had experience cutting men's hair and that it wouldn't be a problem. The hairdresser (Sonia? Saniye?) did fine trimming my hair but the problems arose when she offered to "clean up" the back of my neck and my sideburns. Most men's hairdressers offer taper or straight, I usually go for taper, but this hairdresser went straight in for a skin level shave making my sideburns high and long, and the back of my neck a horizontal line between long hair and shaved skin. The shave on the back of my neck was so short and so high up that it makes it impossible for me to fix it by cutting my hair short and going with a traditional men's hair style. For the most part the haircut was fine, but the last part clearly showed me that the hairdresser did not have experience with men's hair as I was told. read more

I made an appointment for a cut and blow dry with Bill. Calling and setting up an appointment was easy; the receptionist was very nice, and answered all my nervous questions (it was my first time here). The shampoo person, Marie, was wonderful. She was upbeat and super pleasant. I appreciate that she asked if I was allergic to peppermint before applying the conditioner to my hair (it smelled delicious and made my scalp tingle pleasantly!). I showed Bill a photo of how I wanted my hair; I decided to go back to long layers, after having my hair mostly one length for the past eight months or so. Bill gave me exactly what I wanted. He's like an artist; watching his scissors flitting about and styling my hair was impressive. Even better, I am very happy with my haircut and blowout. There are enough long layers to give my hair much-needed body and bounce, but not so many layers that I look like a lost time jumper from 2005. Bill definitely gets five stars from me, and I would, without a second thought, go back to him for another haircut. Overall, Bubbles is fantastic. The salon was nice and spacious (from the outside, I didn't expect it to be as spacious as it turned out to be), brightly lit, clean, and the staff made me feel welcomed. I have gone here 3-4 times now and they always do a nice job on my hair. Staff are able to take me within 10 minutes of me walking in. The person doing my hair always likes to visualize what he/she is doing before they wash my hair and start cutting it. read more
