Taco Tuesday tacos are actually good but that was the only good part of the visit really. Staff kept disappearing over and over for long periods of time. Nobody in site. At one point the new guy came in and asked how I was doing and when I kind-of jokingly said I'm terrible he just said "good" and walked away. . WTF?? I asked him how long he'd worked there and he said 3 days and that he came from McMinimans and then it all made sense. McMinimans is Portland-famous for overpriced average food and drinks and terrible service. read more

I always look at the harshest reviews and wonder if people have a grudge against the owners or just hate life. Then there are places like Banks Billiards that make you think the one-stars are on to something. Listen, Banks is a rapidly changing town that wishes it wasn't that. Executives from some of Oregon's largest corporations now live in incredibly nice houses in its surrounding hills. Families that send their kids to some of the best private schools in the Portland metro area live in a cluster of houses that the old-timers know only as "the development." The rest of Banks is a mix of rural folks just trying to live a quiet life and raise families and some of the most backwards people that Western Washington County has ever produced. Guess which of those groups runs things in this town? Guess which group considers regular fart-car racing and combine demolition derbies fine civic life? Guess which group regularly cuts school programs so the football team can go to the state final a town and a half over and show those stuck-up pricks who's better than who? Guess which group regularly populates this ramshackle excuse for a lottery bar? The entire menu of this place is unloaded from a SYSCO truck and immediately placed into a deep fryer. The drinks aren't so much mixed as they are sloshed into tumblers and swirled around a bit. The "Philly" cheesesteak looks and tastes as if it's prepared by someone who rarely ventures East of Baker City. I went in because we were taking a family pet to the best amenity this town offers--Banks Vet--and needed a place to kill time. My sister and brother in law warned me against it, as this place apparently had itself a nice little cry during the pandemic and went wailing about mask regulations to Barstool Sports: A casino-owned sports publication out of Boston aimed at Northeast finance bros who still own their high school shower shoes. But they're 3,000 miles away from that douchebag factory: How bad could it be? Oh, bad. Like you wonder what they did with the money they begged off of Barstool. I think all the beer signs are from shut-down breweries and all of the "regulars" come straight here after Banks High graduation and never leave. There are "dive" bars that are a bit dated, but otherwise fun to visit and filled with decent people having a good time. There are other lottery mausoleums that fluctuate between unofficial Proud Boys meetings and living funerals. Banks Billiards somehow manages to be neither, yet its own sagging husk of misery. This is a bar you come to when there's one place to drink and a place you eat when you've exhausted all other options. When someone longs for the simplicity of small-town life, I'd like to take them here and show them how bluntly, traumatically simple it all can get. read more

Five dollar appetizers!! Ok so they microwave them, but hey, 5 bucks! Mini-corndogs, you can't get those at most bars. Newer owners are cleaning it up, making improvements and creating a nice vib. They have a covered smoking room out the side door, with cornhole. They have 2 pool tables, and a shuffleboard table, with 5 video poker machines. Very long bar, plenty of stools. It's nice to have a bar in town, but that's about as far as positives go for this place. The food is BEYOND disgusting, ultimate bar food and not in a good way. We ordered a burger with fries, chicken strips, and a philly sandwich. Their freezer fries weren't crispy, burger greasy, and onion rings just tasted like the fryer they came out of. The philly sandwich was so bad that I need to describe it to you. It comes with some kind of cheese, roast beef, onions and mushrooms on a hoagie roll. The sandwich tastes like it has some kind of sweetener in it. I had my husband try it just to make sure I wasn't crazy and he couldn't even swallow his bite. Billiards is fine if you are desperate for a drink at a bar and that is as fas as it goes. read more

New owners have definitely put their love in the old Banks Billiards. It's our small town bar and we all know it's a good time with our hometown friends. New friends always welcome and expected to pass thru, but maybe expect more. The owners have made the bathrooms nice, lighting, big tv, outdoor area comfortable for smoker's, and the bar staff is nice and does their best to the unpredictable crowds. good bar food, rude waitress i love small-town bars where the locals hang out. my husband & i stopped in on sunday, january 29, 2023, while returning from astoria. the atmosphere was what you'd expect, plus pool tables. maybe 5 people sitting at the bar & two people playing darts. we wanted to watch the football game & it was on multiple large tv's so we chose a table near the back that had the volume up. i searched around for the ladies room, couldn't find it, walked back and forth, & the waitress just watched me & didn't offer help. i thought that was odd but brushed it off. finally i found it. we waited at our table & the waitress eventually hollered from behind the bar asking what we wanted to drink. ok, not completely unusual but we weren't sitting very close to the bar. we hollered back 2 bloody marys & a water. when the waitress brought our drinks she didn't say "hello" or any other pleasantries, instead she just blurted out she was the only one there & normally doesn't come out from behind the bar & we can order from the bar. we barely got out "ok" & she abruptly walked away. we asked for menus while she was walking away. that's when i realized she definitely had an attitude & it probably wasn't oversight when she didn't greet us or offer help finding the bathroom. she brought menus, we thanked her & she said nothing & walked away. my husband ordered our food & another drink at the bar. she brought our food, we thanked her, but again she said nothing & walked away. the rude service didn't ruin our food, which was a well-seasoned burger & tator tots & a sandwhich & fries. our bill was $56.50 & i debated on what to leave for a tip. i very rarely tip less than 20%, even for poor service. i decided to tip very low, $7, & explain why. i went to the bar, standing away from other customers in the hopes of privately talking with the waitress. she hollered from the other end of the bar that i could leave the signed receipt there, & i told her i hoped to chat for just a moment. she put down the drink she was making & i said please finish what you're doing, that i could wait. she said she had "like three things to do" & resumed making the drink. i decided to talk with her where she stood, thinking if i lowered my voice, it would be mostly private, other than the closest customer. i went to her & said it seemed she was having a rough day & that i was sorry, i said the food was good but that her rudeness was reflected in the tip i left. she didn't lower her voice at all, & just said "sorry you feel that way, have a nice day", which was completely unsincere. she didn't acknowledge her attitude or being rude. i tried again & she repeated the unsincere "have a nice day". i just said ok & left. i'm patient & understanding, i get that it's frustrating to be the only person working (presumably a co-worker didn't show), & i know we all have bad days, but we didn't deserve getting rude service. replying "you're welcome" isn't too much to ask. all she needed to do was to be remotely polite when she explained she was working alone & ordering at the bar would be helpful. we were accommodating & it didn't put us out at all, despite her curtness. had she lost the attitude, i'd be writing a very different review. read more

My friends and I stopped here last Sunday after camping at Stub Stewart State Park. We decided we needed some bloody Mary's. We were pretty much the only people in the bar, but afterall it was 11:30 on a Sunday morning. We ordered our bloody mary's and they were delicious! Strong and spicy. The bartender even gave us some tabasco sauce to add to them if we wanted. We decided to play a game of shuffle board, which was one of the best tables I have played on. After playing for a while, we discovered the back door which led to an outside area with tables and horseshoes! It was so cool! We ordered up some more drinks and decided we need lunch. So we ordered a couple of pizzas. The pizzas took awhile, but when they came they were so good! I think the bartender made them from scratch! Then we decided to order some more drinks and play pool. I loved how many games were in the place and the homey feel I got from it. If ever in Banks again, I would stop here for sure! read more

No greeting, terrible service, unfriendly bartender. My friend and I dropped in for some cold beer after a fun day in the coast range. When ordering the bartender did not even acknowledge me and walked away before my friend even finished talking. We were offered no menus or follow up questions. The beer was good and the glasses were chilled. Of course the thanks for that would go to Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado and the freezer unit the glasses were stored in. The balding mustached bartender appeared unhappy with life and his job. No tip for him, as it soured the end of a good day. Will not be back, should have gone to the Dairy Creek Tavern!
