First off, I'm not a huge whiskey or bourbon guy but I do know quality when I drink it. For the novice whiskey drinker you may become overwhelmed with the enormous inventory of brands and offerings but rest assured the staff here is top notch and most knowledgeable to help you along. The food is actually a star on its own. The smash burger is my favorite but some of the smaller shareable plates are equally divine. Notably the tempura veggies and the mashed potatoes. While here, try and grab the seating in front of the fire on a winter eve and really dive into what a whiskey lounge should feel like!

The only thing I would change is the food- it's pretty good, but nothing really stands out. They don't have one dish(es) I would typically want to order again. I do wish there were more entree options. The biggest draw is the vast selection of whiskey, bourbons and other spirits. Their cocktails are fabulous and the waiter/waitress have always been great at giving suggestions and helping guide the experience. The lounge has a great atmosphere and vibe. The member's bar is fun to go to before or after dinner. I highly recommend you check out the MWL when you are in downtown Portland.

The cocktails are exceptional, but honestly, the food is what stole the show for me. We ordered the anchovies and immediately had to order a second round. They're perfectly filleted, boneless, and incredible with the accompanying bread. The oysters are some of the best I've had in the city, and the pasta was absolutely phenomenal. Every single dish that hit the table was a 10 out of 10. If you're looking for an elevated dining experience with amazing cocktails and food that exceeds expectations, Scotch Lodge is a must-visit!

You cannot miss the oysters here--the granitas they pair with them are an absolute work of art. For the first time, we tried the beef tartare, and they hand-chop the meat right on the spot. The funky richness of the cheese on top was perfectly balanced, and wrapping it in gem lettuce made it such a unique and delicious treat. As for the drinks, every single cocktail we ordered was outstanding. I'm not a big fan of overly sweet drinks, so the 'Mojo Jojo Casa House' at the end was absolutely perfect for my palate. I also loved the 'Brand New Key,' which was packed with fresh tarragon flavor. My husband prefers smoky whiskeys and mezcals, so he ordered along those lines--not exactly my personal style, but he loved them! The ambiance and overall vibe here are unmatched. Just a heads-up: this place gets packed quickly, so making a reservation is a complete must. Highly, highly recommend!

Kind of like the feeling of coming home. The place was packed -- just a testament to their very good food and excellent drinks -- there was even a couple sitting outside and they had a fire going. Wish I had taken that photo. It was a really beautiful moment. The place was decorated and felt very holiday festive with small bright lights reflecting off the tin ceiling. Excited to have a couple of days on holiday here. Stopped in to pick up their latest version of fudge because Christian the Baker keeps evolving the art of fudge making...and you don't want to miss an iteration. Using the owner's grandfather's recipe as the base, he makes some of the best fudge in Oregon. Tonight I was told he decided to explore a Mediterranean approach and added nutty sesame to the fudge. The sharp but soft chocolate is a perfect compliment to a delicious drink on a cold, cold night. While I was waiting for the fudge to be packaged to take back to the fireplace in my room, I spied their latest culinary endeavor sitting in jars on the counter... and actually started salivating. They are now serving Pickled eggs. Incredible. When was the last time you had a pickled egg? When done right, pickled eggs are among the most satisfying and clean bite of delicious ungrilled, ungreasy proteins in the world. And the lounge has decided to serve two different kinds, so we might've died and gone to heaven. If you love eggs of every kind, as I do, boiled eggs hold a special place because they are hearty and compact and completely whole. So when you add a spices and acid to that perfection...it emerges as "wow." The service was attentive and thoughtful always, and I was told they're open New Year's Eve until 9.
