This is not an authentic Thai restaurant. They have do authentic Thai dishes on the menu. My wife and I ordered food that we have never seen in Thailand but it was delicious. I had the eggplant lover and my wife had three musketeer. Lots of good spice and the brown sauce is wonderful. The fresh spring rolls are as good as we have ever had. Great atmosphere and service. My stomach is never disappointed coming here. The flavors are on point and it's one of the most authentic Thai restaurants In the area! The first time, I got the lamb chop curry. Amazing. The lamb was very tender and the curry paired well with it and it came with a side of rice. The next time, I tried their oxtail pho. Also amazing. I am a huge fan of oxtail, but the broth and just everything about it was delicious. I've also tried little bits of lots of the other dishes from my friends' orders and they all taste amazing. My only negative about this place is the wait to get the food after ordering. Getting seated is easy, but the wait time for the food generally averages around 30-40mins. I usually come here in a big group and each time the dishes have come out one at a time. Sometimes, one of the dishes comes out way before another, so there's like an awkward 20 min wait period while we wait for the last person to get their food. I don't know if there's only one chef on the kitchen, but they need to increase their efficiency for sure. I will definitely be back for more, but maybe when I don't have any plans for the rest of the day so I don't have to worry about being late. read more

Bann Thai is wonderful! My husband and I love this restaurant. The food is so good and fresh, spicy and delicious. The only thing that I would change about Bann Thai is their lighting. The lighting is terrible - I actually once got a headache from a spotlight shining into my face from the ceiling. Anyway, we have also gotten takeout, which was wonderful. I was happy to find this place after leaving the airport and driving through Illinois. The food was very good. They ran out of spring rolls so I opted for the pork egg rolls. They offer spice levels 1-5. I tried a four on the Kapao which was hot but not overwhelming. They recommended adding a fried egg which was delicious. The spice boat offers chili paste jalapeños and Thai chilies in a dish sauce. Overall I was pleased and may consider returning the next time I travel though Illinois from St. Louis. read more

We really enjoy the food from here but after this past experience idk if we will be back. $80 in food and it was our first time ordering out in some time due to COVID-19 so to say we were excited is an understatement. We placed a pick-up order and didn't receive all of our items and didn't notice until we got home (15 mins later). I was fine with coming back to pick up the missed items but now my food at home is cold and I didn't get anything but a "we were gonna call but couldn't find the number. Sorry" so that I guess that apology suffices? Bummed because we really enjoyed the food from here but not worth the drive 2x in one night for eventually cold food. Edit: the food we picked up is cold lol so after I asked them to remake it and was told I would "be taken care of" I wasn't so we definitely won't be back. read more

Mad I didn't try sooner, this place is very good. We got chicken pot stickers (pan fried) and beef app. The potstickers were bomb and I enjoyed the beef although it was a little dry but I'm picky about meat so the fact I liked it enough says something. For entrees I had drunken noodles with shrimp and my fiance had kha soi. I really love spice. I will eat a raw jalapeño and feel nothing. I can handle ghost pepper. I got a level 5 for spice and I found it pleasant... There was a kick but it wasn't at all uncomfortable for me and I could have handled spicier. Still really like that you're able to choose your spice level because most people are such wimps about it. We both really liked our meals. Good flavor and very filling, a deal for the price. I was super excited to try the food from Bann Thai after reading the reviews. I will preface what I say by admitting that my order was a take out order and I am about a 20 minute drive away. We ordered: Fried Spring rolls, Chicken potstickers, Beef Pad Thai, Chicken Pad See Ew, Tom Yum Soup and then I got kids chicken fried rice and chicken pad thai. I got a spice level of 3 on the Beef pad thai and the chicken see ew. My overall impression is that you still have to go to St. Louis to get good Thai food. The pad thai and tom yum soup are so much better at Sen Thai and the King and I. (Go to Sen Thai and get the woon sen tom yum soup for some fantastic tom yum!) The tom yum soup had good flavor but was just too sweet. I also didn't like getting big chunks of inedible lemon grass in my bowl. I added shrimp and this was a great choice. I think the soup would have too one note without some protein to break it up. If I get higher than middle spicy at Sen Thai or King and I, I find myself sweating while I eat! At Bann Thai, I could not even detect any heat in the pad see ew or the pad thai. Just slight heat in the tom yum. The noodles were overcooked and mushy....that might be a result of take out, so I'll overlook that. The flavors were good, but I was really missing the heat (next time I'll order 4 out of 5) and texture. The fried spring rolls were disappointing. Soggy from the ride home and flavorless and textureless filling. Compared to fried spring rolls at Pho Grand (vietnamese) in St. Louis, these fall way short. Again, maybe it is because I got take out. And last but not least, they were out of potstickers so I had to change my order. How do you run out of chicken pot stickers on a Friday evening? Because of all of the 5 star reviews, I'm going to give it another try when I can go eat in. But my impression from last night is just....how are so many people giving this 5 stars? We visited on a Saturday night and there was only one other table inside. We were a table of 5. I don't know what went wrong or how it started but as soon as it started; it was a domino effect. We ordered two appetizers. After 20 mins, one came out. Then the meals started coming out staggered. 5-10 minutes in between each meal! Others were trying not to be rude and wait as their food was getting cold. Finally I asked about our second appetizer and it had been completely not ordered. The server and I specifically had a discussion about this app and she said which one was good and we were shocked it wasn't ordered. By this time; all meals were out EXCEPT my soup! You can't tell me the soup isn't already ready?! Then came the remaining appetizer. Spring rolls and chicken rolls are a definite don't order! Not good! Soup was bland. Everyone enjoyed their meals otherwise. Had to ask for more water, had to ask for a box, had to ask for our check. Meal was nearly 80 minutes long. Definitely won't return. This is our favorite Thai place in edwardsville. Every single dish that we've ordered has been delicious!!!their lunch specials are a steal! So worth it. We've tasted their red and green curries with different meat, drunken noodles, pad Thai. Just yum. Only thing I wish they would change is give a little more rice with their entrees. read more

This place is great, simple Thai food that tastes amazing. Their Tom yum soup is some of the best I have ever had and my wife loves their red curry. No alcohol but you can bring your own (odd but works for me!) The restaurant staff is always pleasant and polite. I didn't have high expectations for Thai food in Edwardsville on a recent trip to visit my parents. It's a area dominated by Pub food restaurants and mediocre chain restaurants like Applebee's, Texas Roadhouse etc. I'm sure you get the picture. Bann Thai is located in a strip mall type building along 157 that if you weren't specifically looking for it you would drive by without noticing it. When we walked in we were promptly greeted and immediately seated. There are booths and tables available. The tabletops were covered with a synthetic vinyl which makes cleanup a breeze but left me with an overall impression that you would get from visiting a cheap diner. Just my 2¢ here that if you're going to invest minimally in furnishings your food better knock their socks off. On to the food. I ordered a Panang Prihk based curry dish which I've ordered over fifty times from various restaurants. The flavor profile of the Panang was there but it was missing something. Panang has always been for me a punch in the palate. Delicate & creamy with robust flavor that overwhelms the taste buds. In Baans version it tasted a little watered down. They offered it in levels of spiciness from 1-5. I ordered 3-4 and ended up with a 0-1. Comparing it to the many Thai restaurants i've been to over the years. I ended up having the Thai Spice rack with chili peppers brought to the table. The individual components were fresh so almost all of the ingredients were there to make it a superb Panang but something was just not hitting the mark. Maybe it was the absence of lemongrass. My wife had the Pad Green bean I think which by her account was very good just really salty. The crab Rangoon was really no different than what you would get at a cheap Chinese restaurant. The wonton wrap was thick and chewy without anything really to distinguish it from cheap Chinese food and btw they had General Tso Chicken on the menu. Why on earth would you put a famously Chinese dish on a Thai menu? I'm not sure if I mean that rhetorically or I really want to know. In the end the price point wasn't bad and the food wasn't horrible. It just left me wanting and expecting more in an area dominated by mediocre food. read more

My husband and went back to Bann Thai and I am glad that we did. I loved the Pad Prik Pao. Lots of veggies, perfectly cooked tofu in a sweet and spicy chili sauce. Grace was our waitress. Sweet, friendly and on her second day at the restaurant. If you read my previous review, then you know there was an odor issue the first time I ordered food here. No bad smells today. Khao Soi - this soup is so good! The beef is tender and the proportions of beef, noodles and ultra fresh bean sprouts within the creamy curry soup is perfect. It's even delicious the next day. I ordered a #3 spice and it was the perfect amount of heat. The four at our table each had a different dish and everyone was extremely happy with their meal. My husband said his drunken noodles was the best he's ever eaten. We had crab rangoon and pork egg roll appetizers which were both very good and are served with what has to be an in-house made sweet sauce. Went here recently with a friend for the first time and absolutely loved it. Great prices and great food quality as well great customer service. We got fresh spring rolls which were okay but was almost like a salad in a roll form. We got the chicken potstickers which were absolutely amazing and so yummy. We had the bubble tea, my husband had the Thai tea which was good and I got green tea which was okay. We ordered pad Thai which was really good and I will order again. We got panaag curry (yellow curry) which my husband liked but wasn't really my cup of tea but was interesting. I got the pad roumit which was the most amazing to be put in my mouth!!! Just in time! I wrapped up a performance for the Family Weekend crowd at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and I was famished. Too often the only post-show option on the road is fast-food-fare, but not last Saturday night! I love Thai food, call me pedestrian, but pad Thai is my go-to meal. All too often pad Thai noodles taken to-go are a clumped lump of room temp starch, but not from Bann Thai! I was delighted to find perfectly al dente rice noodles dancing free, a perfect balance of tender chicken chunks, green onion, peanuts, and scrambled egg. Combined with the shrimp in garlic sauce (a healthy portion, 10 pieces!) that was aromatic in the most delightful way! I walked through the front door mere minutes from closing time. Apologetic, I asked if the kitchen was still serving. Instead of stink eye, chef and co-owner Devon took my order and offered a few minutes of cheerful conversation. The menu, derived from authentic Thai recipes (Devon's business partner and wife is born of two first generation Thai immigrants. No border walls here!). Wow, what great tasting Thai food right here in Edwardsville! I remember hearing about their opening back in the fall, but never had a chance to visit until tonight. Well, it was worth the wait...or more like, I shouldn't have waited so long to come here!! We walked in on a fairly busy Friday night, and were seated promptly. It took awhile for our server to take our order, but we received our food in fairly good time. It was robust, loaded with flavor, and served piping hot. I had the pho and my wife had the pad see ew. Both dishes were fantastic! Our server talked to us about other items on the menu that he liked, and we agree. There's plenty more on the menu that we'd love to try someday. We'll be back! Made a return visit to Bann Thai. Their lunch specials are a great value. Place was not busy so there was only one waitress. She handled it with no problem. Our food arrived fairly quickly. We are so happy that we finally came across this place. We've felt the Asian places in town have been lacking in flavor...until Bann Thai. We love the fresh spring rolls for an appetizer in the yummy sauce that comes with it. The presentation was nice, too. They have the best shrimp pad thai that I've had anywhere. It has so much flavor, and for me, a heat level of 3 is just right. My husband had the drunken noodles with chicken at a heat level of 5, and it was delicious, too. Bann Thai is our go to Thai food. The quality and portion sizes a bargain for the price. The Sriracha Salmon Fried Rice is UH-MAZING. I cannot leave without getting a Thai Tea either. Combine that with premium curbside service and it's win/win. read more
