An incredible restaurant with plenty of amazing dishes that are well spiced and cooked. It's off the beaten path to find really good Thai food in my opinion here but this restaurant consistently makes amazing dishes. Their appetizers range from six to $10 a plate and I highly recommend their fried tofu dish which comes with good peanut sauce. Their main dishes often come with a pre-set level of slice on a scale from 1-5 with even a 3 being quite spicy. Their eggplant tofu dish is amazing and has enough of a portion size for easily taking home leftovers. Have a friendly and service is quick. This is our go to spot every time we're in town. We've been coming here since they opened this family-run spot for authentic Thai cuisine over 20 years ago. The food has been reliably excellent! It is so nice to have a Thai option in a smaller town, and this is not your "good-for-a-small-town" Thai place. We regularly hear about friends from St. Louis making the trip across the river to Columbia just for Thai House. Our appetizer staples include Crab Delight and Chicken Satay (with peanut sauce and cucumber salad- yum!). For entrees, we usually go with the Crab Fried Rice, Pad Thai, and Yellow Curry. Pad See Ew is also good if you are in the mood for a thicker noodle. Bonus for those eating out with families- the kids menu chicken nuggets are better than we ever expected - real chicken breast pieces, not the usual frozen kind that someone pulled out of a bag in the back. They are often busy because the food is great. Depending on the night, the phone line may be busy and it could take over 45 minutes for your takeout to be ready. But it's worth it, so plan ahead. The new online ordering makes it all a little easier, so consider that. In-restaurant service is a bit quicker; it never feels as if we have to wait too long. read more

This place is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area! You can dine-in or order ahead and carry out. The service is prompt and the food arrives hot and delicious. I've never had a bad meal here ever. It's a great place to bring friends who want to order different things so you can try dishes you wouldn't typically order. Be sure to order the Crab Delight and Gyozas for the table. I also highly recommend getting the Pineapple Curry or Pineapple Fried Rice with chicken. My wife and I visited and immediately I found something strange on their menu. My favorite soup/appetizer is the Tom Kha with Chicken. But, here it's served/listed as an entree. So, when I ordered it the woman gave me a very surprising look as if I had horns on my head. I ordered it and told her I wanted it as an appetizer prior to my main dish. She glared down and said, "Oh, you are going to order another entree??". My wife said, yes and that is usually a soup on the appetizer side in most other Thai places. Then the server went into the kitchen and was yelling about it and I heard her mention the word Appetizer and there was a lot of commotion. Any way, the soup came out and it was good, but not a lot to it honestly. It was priced like we are used to as an appetizer. I had the Pad Thai and it was ok, but was a struggle to order it as I wanted a combo Pad Thai (Pork, Chicken and Shrimp). She just was annoying and fought me the entire time I was ordering. It was so annoying that we almost asked for to go containers and left. But, the food was just ok when you compare to Thai-Phoon in Fairview Heights or even Thips in O'Fallon, IL. We won't be back to feel like outcasts again. They were so rude. Sad how even the best food can be ruined by bad service. read more

Across the river in Columbia but not far at all. They have a pick up window right in the entry and through another door to the eat in section No hostess stand but we were greeted and seated right away. Several different servers came to our table. We ordered drinks first, another server took an order for pork gyoza, and another our entree. Gyoza came out right away, they were pretty good. They were served with a light, sweet sauce instead of a brown sauce. A little different but the sauce was excellent. I ordered Kee Mao Noodle and asked for no carrot and extra tomato. I typically get spice level 3 and went with that here, too. I wasn't disappointed! The entree came out quickly, hot, with the modifications I requested and the spice level was spot on for me. Located on a corner on Main Street, it's pretty easy to find. We parked along the side of the building (Oak street, I think) but there is also a lot of parking in the rear of the building. If you have limited mobility, the rear would be the better choice as the front also has steps to enter the building. We went in the front door along Main street which opens into a large waiting area. This area has the counter, the entrance to the kitchen, as well as a dining table. I would avoid that table as the area is quite busy and also leads to the rest of the dining area. We were quickly seated in the adjacent room at a table at the front of the building. It had a nice view of Main street but was also next to the main walkway between the waiting area and the rear dining area. There is enough walking room so we were not crowded, but the walkway can get busy. Quieter tables would be away from the front window or in the rear dining area. The menu held a few items I had not seen before and I decided to try the white curry. It's described as hot and sour curry. I selected heat level three. My dining partner selected the Grosi Mee with chicken. Our food arrived in about 15 minutes. The white curry was outstanding. I love hot and sour soup and this took that experience to another level. The heat level was certainly noticeable, but not overpowering, and the flavors were exceptional. This became my new favorite dish. The Grosi Mee was enjoyed by my dining partner. The flavors are more muted, especially compared to the white curry, but it was quite good for what it was. Service was quick and efficient. Prices were as would be expected. While my goal is to find a white curry recipe I can make myself, the Thai House white curry is the standard I am working toward. read more

Hubby and I stopped in here for lunch and were glad we did. We ordered the steamed pork dumplings as an appetizer and then shared chicken pad thai. I'm so glad this place is in Columbia, IL. It offers a clean, modern restaurant that serves something other than American or Mexican food. We had a party of six and there were several other large parties enjoying holiday lunches. We were seated and served promptly. Even our picky eaters got their food as ordered. I've been here several times and always loved what I ordered. Today the Pad Thai was off. It tasted scorched and while my husband said he didn't taste it, I could not eat it. My daughter and her boyfriend went to eat at this establishment last night. My daughter ordered her food, which was made correctly. Her boyfriend ordered his meal but requested no vegetables, his came out with vegetables. They politely asked for it to be sent back since it was incorrect. The waitress who took the order came out and proceeded to yell at them and tell them it was their fault and that they would have to pay for the incorrect order and pay for the new entree without vegetables. After further discussion, the kitchen staff, along with the waitress(her name is KitKat) surrounded their table and continued to argue and harass my daughter and her boyfriend. My daughter realized the situation was getting out of hand and asked to just pay for the meal, even though it was wrong, so that they could leave. Still They were not able to leave. She advised them that they were going to call the police if they continued to harass them. The harassment continued. Her boyfriend then tried to go out into the lobby to call the police and was pushed away from the door by Kit Kat. They returned to the table and my daughter called the police. The police arrived and took the waitresses name and spoke with her. My daughters boyfriend was able to speak with the owner of the restaurant. He apologized and admitted that he has been having issues with his staff treating customers this way. He apologized again and gave them their meal for free which I'm sure made Kit Kat ecstatic. I will never step foot in this establishment again which is a total shame because their food is really good but not good enough for me to support that type of harassment. Heard good things about Thai House so I went try it out. Asked the waitress to add an additional spice to a dish; something I get at almost ever Thai restaurant I go to. The waitress, was pushy and refused stating they are unable to add spices to an entree. Rather than accommodate they prefer patrons to leave without ordering. I fail to see how to they unable to add a spice to a entree; all entrees are made to order. If your looking for a friendly Thai place, stay away from Thai House. read more

In a word, Dishonest. Or maybe it's Stupidity, but even after pointing out an obvious mistake they doubled-down snd got nasty. Note: it's not about the $2. I ordered the Duck Curry from the "Chef Specialties" which take up one entire page. Each and every item on that page is individually priced, the Duck Curry being $14.99. That was all I ordered. When my check arrived it had only the handwritten total of $18.35 which was clearly high, there couldn't be over 22% sales tax. I went to pay and asked the cashier to explain, and she said it was correct, curry was an extra $2. I said something to the effect that curry wasn't an option, it's a curry dish with its own price right next to the name, so she opened a menu and sure enough the price for curry duck was $14.99. Then she started talking about the high cost of coconut milk and a note about an extra charge in the menu, flipping through the menu unable to find it, getting her glasses and continuing the search. Honestly that was amusing, it's quite a big menu and there she was frantically flipping through pages looking for some fine print to prove I should have known about it. What she found was two pages back from what I ordered. Under the column heading Curry Entrees it states Curry Additional $2. On that page there is also a column for Sauteed Entrees and a section for Soup. Other than Dumpling Soup NO items on that page are individually priced, they are all the same unless otherwise noted (curry, and one soup). Starting a page or two earlier "regular" entrees are all priced the same with those exceptions, fair enough. But TWO pages later, no longer part of the 1-price entrees, are the more expensive Chef's Specialties, EVERY SINGLE ONE of which is individually priced, with NO mention on that page about the curry dishes actually being more than the price list immediately NEXT TO the name. e.g. Duck Curry $14.99. Note: there are no alterations to the menu, the curry sup-charge was known at the time it was printed and noted in the relevant 1-price section. There is no sensible, logical way to claim that the $2 curry up-charge noted on the one-price entree page should apply to individually priced Chef's Specials two pages later let alone that the customer should make that connection. Those items would have been priced with the cost of coconut milk, like any other ingredient, in mind. The cashier beckoned for what I took to be the manager or owner (a farang) who delivered the same explanation about expensive coconut milk and pointed to the note in the menu. I said that's fine since those weren't individually priced then flipped to the page I ordered from, pointed to the price. He insisted that the up-charge still applied and I asked how that makes any sense at all. His response clinched it "If you don't like it you don't have to eat here". I said that's dishonest, took the menu aside and snapped pictures of the pages then paid my bill in full. He said he doesn't want customers with an attitude like mine and quite angrily, threateningly, told me to leave. Prior to the "you don't have to eat here" line I was insistent but polite, my "attitude" was entirely calm, logical and reasonable. After he told me to leave I did drop a well deserved expletive on the way out. read more

For carry out, I would give 4-5 stars as we go there every 2-3 months and have for 20 years. Love their food! We occasionally dine in and typically service is average-fine, but as of late....awful. Possibly will Never dine in again. It has been awful. Recently, We were there for a simple meal for over 2 hours. It took a very long time to be seated, for anyone to come get our drinks, to bring us water...The service was overall horrible. We didn't even leave a tip- something we never do. My food was cold. They forgot our drinks. None of our food came out at the same time. No straws given...which is needed with our kid cup with a lid. And flagging down a waitress was semi-impossible. I mean. And it all took forever--Everything took forever. I am not sure what was up. It was steady but not crowded. Only two people were working. They appeared to be running as fast as they could so I assume severely understaffed. They really needed 2 additional people for it to be a pleasant experience. I prob won't eat there again for awhile and I will only get carry out there. It is so sad/weird. We have been going there forever and while we don't dine in much- we have never had such a bad experience. They seriously brought our drinks when we were done eating..getting ready to leave. we said we didn't want them anymore. Thankfully they didn't try and charge us. So bad. read more

Very disapointed, we live in waterloo but were in the area and we had loved their food in the past so we decided to stop by and order a simple meal and when we went into pickup the meal which we had ordered on the phone, we gave them the phone number, they gave us a bag of food and we paid and were on the way back to waterloo to enjoy our meal. Right as we were pulling into our street we got a call from thai house that our order was ready... turns out they gave us the wrong meal, this wouldnt have been a big deal but we live 20-30 minutes away (they also had made us pay the extra 8 dollers i dont have any problem doing so it is just after there mistake they should have told us not to worry about it) and so after we got our right food home it had been about an hour and a half and the food was cold. Tun of the mill Thai food. Asked for it Thai hot and came out barely spicy. Had to ask twice for refill of my tea. Asked for chopsticks and had to wait at least 5 minutes. Adorable little place along a charming Main Street just across the IL/MO border on the Mississippi River. It was recommended by several locals and did not disappoint! I was a bit hesitant to go here because although I enjoy Thai food, I am trying to avoid processed carbs and know that Thai food is heavy on rice and noodles. But this place had several salad options that were very filling and contained meat and vegetables. I ended up getting the salad in the picture, which is pork and sauce with a variety of garden vegetables. Extremely filling and very yummy, and a generous portion size! I had read other reviews about the lack of parking, and maybe it's because we had a late lunch, but there was ample parking in both the parking lot and on the street outside. read more

Best Thai I have had so far. This place has actually ruined generic "Chinese food" for me. Kee Mao (in picture) noodles are my favorite. t. I get them with tofu which is prepared better than most tofu I've had anywhere. Love the Yellow curry. White looks just as good but I cant stop myself from ordering KeeMao noodles every time I go so I haven't had it yet. Cashew chicken is also great (also in picture).
