After 30 plus years of experiencing "status quo" medicine; you arrive to the doctors office 15 minuets ahead of your appointment time as requested, greeted with "give me your insurance card, "how do you want to pay for your copay today" followed by, "wait over there the doctor will be with you in a moment". Then the waiting process begins. Your office visit lasts about an hour or more of which 15 minuets are actually spent with the doctor. Not the case here with Dr. Richards and Better Health Now I arrive, and I am greeted by Dr, Richards at my scheduled appointment time there was no waiting each and every visit. I was taken immediately to the examination room and my evaluation began with no waiting time and performed by Dr. Richards. I received my diagnosis, treatment options, treatment recommendations by Dr. Richards. I was provided extensive explanations to all my questions or concerns in simple understandable language with out the medical jargon by Dr. Richards, I never felt rushed or that my time was not equally important to me as Dr. Richards time was to him. In fact Dr. Richards went above and beyond to accommodate my schedule on more than one occasion that no previous doctor I has ever seen has done period. My office visits lasted about an hour each, every moment is spent with the doctor. I am discharged with a clear, fully informed diagnosis, treatment plan and prescription as deemed prudent to the diagnosis and agreed to by me the patient. I pay the very reasonable and fair costs at the conclusion of the office visit for services rendered.How refreshing that Dr. Richards practices medicine where the patient is treated as a human being not an ATM. The only reason for not giving the maximum review star rating is no ability to bill insurance at this time. Dr, Richards has updated me that he is actively in the process of registering for the ability to bill to the various insurances and expects the process to be completed soon. Once that is accomplished I will be immediately registering Dr. Richards as my Primary Care Physician with my insurance while seeking and trusting his continued care presently.

Needless to say it was very painful, the topical numbing gel didn't do what I thought it would, and I vowed to NEVER do it again. So, four years later, I muster up the courage to give it a try again... This past Wednesday I visited In Shape MD, and I spoke with Dr. Shannon York about my concerns with lip injections and the last experience I had. Dr. York was understanding and very sensitive to my concerns and based on my history she suggested I get a dental block to numb the entire site. I agreed to give it a try again and as you know if you've been to a dentist and had a dental block, you CAN'T feel a thing. I spent a good 20 minutes in the chair with Dr. York as she was administering a dental block. Dr. York was very compassionate and extremely gentle in administering the shots. Given my history she wanted to make sure I was as comfortable as could be at all times and she took her time. After the dental block set in she started administering the lip injections, and I was so pleased, because I could not feel a thing!!! The procedure took about 45 minutes and by that time the dental block was starting to break -- thank goodness, because I did not want to walk around for hours with a numb face. Within two hours, I had complete feeling again and very minimal discomfort around the injection site. I would highly recommend visiting In Shape MD if you're considering any type of non-invasive cosmetic procedures, because Dr. York is a wonderful and very compassionate. It's been about a week since my lip injections, and I couldn't be happier with the look. The swelling is pretty much 100% gone and my lips look great. I am looking forward to visiting In Shape MD again for other cosmetic procedures. :P

These doctors are AMAZING…read more Not every experience I have had here has been stellar, but every time I've had an issue, it was addressed immediately and it has never been held against me or used as a basis for retaliation. I am really picky about my health... I'll only see female doctors, I'll only see somebody who is experienced and certified/licensed in the specialty... I'll usually only see somebody who is around my age and who has a stellar academic record. I'm pretty demanding. I found this place when I first moved to AZ in 2012, and made it my medical home. My regular PCP is here (Norgaard) but from time to time she's unavailable and I'll see another doctor (usually Gwisdala or O'Malley). If I call and need to be seen the same or next day, they're usually able to get me in with a resident who is supervised by one of the attending physicians I am usually seen by, anyway. Bobby (another reviewer) points out that they do a lot of referrals. That's definitely true... but here's the thing. My PCP is an internist - she specializes in overall wellness... she isn't an expert on every aspect of every organ system and disease. I'd much more prefer she tell me she is unsure but that she knows where to get the answer than I would she render inadequate or inappropriate treatment. These people are so remarkably compassionate, understanding, patient. I have some pretty serious health issues and some that I blow way out of proportion, but they listen all the same. Not only that, they take me seriously and they really care. That's the part that blows my mind... it's not just about the payor source - it's about the person. I have had private insurance, AHCCCS, and no insurance and been seen at this office and treated with respect, dignity, and compassion every single time - without fail. THIS is what healthcare is supposed to be like. My physician and I are a team, and I seriously couldn't ask for a better teammate. If you want to go to the doctor, have everything fixed, and get mediocre-at-best care, go to a family doctor... they're first-level providers. They're not bad, by any means, but they're they're to keep you well and make sure you don't die before you have to. If you have a potentially complex medical history, you're going to need something more... this place provides that, and they do a damned good job.

Messages through the patient portal went unanswered, and phone messages were never returned by her assistant Alondra. As a diabetic, I had to wait over a week after my lab work to receive medical advice and have my prescription sent to the pharmacy. Delays like this can have serious consequences for patients with chronic conditions. After years of being a loyal patient, I've decided to find a new provider. I hope the office improves its communication and follow-up because patients deserve timely care and responses.
