Your bugs, and fish and plants were our playground . Growing up you were the pond down the street - where we hung out in the summer and skated on in the winter. Passed through a million times going here and there over the years. You grew up too; lots of changes, starting with the walking trail. These days you are part of a network of walking trails through the city. Then you got into golf and like most - your interest in golf has been long-standing and varied: driving range, putting greens and now today - mini golf! Lots of wildlife here too. Good for those evenings after work when you need to clear your head or get your legs moving after eating a big meal. When I've walked around here I've noticed other locals that do the same. On my walk there were no notice of bugs and I made my way around and back before dark. I believe it's important that city's make trails around nature where possible as it encourages exercise and activity that is necessary in our busy lives!

Underrated by locals, this…read moresprawling green space includes a huge duck pond, multiple bridges, forest-covered trails, huge moose statues, community pool, water park, playground...and presumably even more since we stopped before making it the whole way through. Among the highlights were a statue reportedly (but unconfirmed) of Peter Pan and a historic fountain for horses so that you can keep your steed hydrated while trotting through. Wait for a sunny day then go check it out!

Gayle and I visited Harbourside Park during a Sunday walk on a atypical cool and foggy June day. We specifically stopped to admire the bronze Newfoundland and Labrador dog statues. But we stayed for the Harbour (and Narrows) vantage points to see the ship traffic or lack of depending on timing. This park is also across the street from the very interesting National War Memorial.

The business card for the cab neglected to put the area code on the card? The wonderful ladies at the botanical garden helped us out. Gave me the area code and called a taxi for us. Also gave us suggestions on a cemetery to visit. I get lots of different reactions when I ask about cemeteries and they weren't phased they were kinda exited. Great place and wonder friendly staff.

You can even fire the gun by paying some money and registering online beforehand. They will provide you with a uniform and badge before doing this activity. Signal Hill historic site has amazing ocean and St. John's views from the top. If you are lucky, you can see whales too. There is a popular hike too if you have time. It does have a gift shop and museum inside the building. Parking on the top is limited. If you are not lucky, there is overflow parking below too; you just have to walk a little to the top, that's all. Definitely recommend this place to get the beautiful views!

Best of all, it's just a quick 2.5 km trip from the heart of downtown. This site holds immense global significance; it is the exact spot where Guglielmo Marconi received the first-ever transatlantic wireless signal in 1901, changing global communication forever. Another major highlight is the Noon Day Gun ceremony at 12 PM sharp. Hearing the cannon boom and learning how it served as a crucial time signal for mid-19th-century ships navigating across time zones is fascinating. Entry was free in Summer 2026 thanks to Canada Strong pass. Parking is always free. The top lot fills up fast, so get there early. In case it is already full, you may need to park below the hill in the overflow parking and walk 20 minutes to the summit. There are no toilets at the summit tower, but the small gift shop and the historical museum make it well worth a couple of hours of exploration!

The highlight of our visit was watching a family of three whales (two adults and a little calf) swimming through the waves below us! It's an easy 15km drive from St. John's. Free parking and great walking paths make it a breeze to explore. Just be prepared for the elements. It is exceptionally windy and raw out on the headland, so dress in layers! Carry your hats and sunscreen! You will need them!
