First of all, Petty Harbour has to be one of the largest and most picturesque towns in southern Newfoundland. You can actually find a bite to eat and some scenic photo spots here. The Mini Aquarium is indeed a small place. As you come into Petty Harbour you will see its sign on the side of the building and have little trouble getting there. Inside there are two small rooms with about 20-25 tanks of various species of Newfoundland Marine life. Each room has a few tanks where you can "pet" various creatures such as star fish. Washrooms are available here as well. The cost for an adult was 8-9$ (I can't remember exactly). This price was worth it to me, if in some small way to support this educational place. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful with information. I came rather indifferent to making the stop, yet left glad I did.

Well... The More You Know. This park is a little hub in the city that hosts everything from the folk festival to found memories of the first time I tried wine while sitting in the gazebo. It's a great piece of central green space that has a little bit for every one. Whether it's sight seeing for touristy folks, a spot to sit down and down some lunch picnic style or a play place for the kiddies - it's a pretty nifty park. Last time I was here, it had (and was) undergoing some pretty serious upgrades & maintenance, so that's nice to see they are keeping this place well groomed. On a nice day, it's the perfect spot to grab ice cream and take a wander through.

Underrated by locals, this…read moresprawling green space includes a huge duck pond, multiple bridges, forest-covered trails, huge moose statues, community pool, water park, playground...and presumably even more since we stopped before making it the whole way through. Among the highlights were a statue reportedly (but unconfirmed) of Peter Pan and a historic fountain for horses so that you can keep your steed hydrated while trotting through. Wait for a sunny day then go check it out!

Petty Harbour is one pretty example, that's a short drive from St. John's on the way to Cape Spear. It's located on the Avalon Peninsula and in the heart of Motion Bay. A nice Air Canada steward on our JFK-YUL flight was from Newfoundland and recommended that we visit Petty Harbour. So Gayle and I drive around the harbour and stopped to look around. Today the fishing industry is still very important to the local residence of Peggy Harbour, but tourism is also becoming a very major factor in the survival of this small town. Peggy Harbor is now home to Airbnb's, hotels, wonderful seafood restaurants, cafes, bed & breakfast, mini aquarium, charters for whale watching and fishing, walking trails and even boast to have the longest zip-line in Canada ( North Atlantic Ziplines). Your bugs, and fish and plants were our playground . Growing up you were the pond down the street - where we hung out in the summer and skated on in the winter. Passed through a million times going here and there over the years. You grew up too; lots of changes, starting with the walking trail. These days you are part of a network of walking trails through the city. Then you got into golf and like most - your interest in golf has been long-standing and varied: driving range, putting greens and now today - mini golf! Lots of wildlife here too. Good for those evenings after work when you need to clear your head or get your legs moving after eating a big meal. When I've walked around here I've noticed other locals that do the same. On my walk there were no notice of bugs and I made my way around and back before dark. I believe it's important that city's make trails around nature where possible as it encourages exercise and activity that is necessary in our busy lives!

The lines were a blast and the scenery was second to none! I've been to Newfoundland a ton but never got to do something like this here.
