The sushi is very fresh and yummy. It definitely satisfied my sushi cravings! Very friendly service as well!

Ordered a sushi roll and it was way too small and too little food for the high price. The waiter recommended the california tempura roll to me with prawn tempura, eel, avocado, and eel sauce and it was a very small roll diameter wise. The prawn tempura was subpar and the roll tasted just alright-- not very impressive, yet quite expensive. Service was very good so that's a plus and I think I would go back to maybe try their bento box but I would say stay away from their sushi rolls-- not worth it!

Tempura Sea Bass Bento (10.50 Euros for lunch!)

Probably the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Dublin. A lot of Asian restaurants here are weird hybrid shops that serve stuff like Thai Green Curry along with Kung Pao Chicken, but this place only serves Japanese food and the staff is mostly Japanese. We came around 2:00 and they were still serving their lunch specials, which were incredibly affordable. I got the Tempura Sea Bass Bento (10.50 Euros) which was a bargain for lunch, considering that most meals in Ireland cost around 12-15 Euros on average. It came with rice and miso soup. The sea bass was flaky and fresh, and the batter was crispy but light. The bean sprouts were alright, if a little bland. I also enjoyed the fried tuna fritters. The Nagoya Tebasaki Chicken Wings (around 8 Euros) had a good flavor. They reminded me of the chicken wings that Yoshinoya used to sell. I do wish it was served a little hot. My friend got the 2 course meal for around 20 Euros, which included a fish croquette and Chicken Karaage. I loved the Chicken Karaage, which was juicy and marinated well, but super crispy on the outside. The fish croquette was boring. Water here is not complimentary; they charge 1 Euro for a bottle. If you're craving Japanese food in Dublin, come here.

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Came here for a quick lunch with my sister during our stay in Dublin. I *think* we ordered the Banyi sushi for 2. It's the one that includes the 4 piece spider roll, 4 piece dragon roll, and sashimi. We also ordered the chicken bento. The spider and dragon roll were delicious. We did order them without the wasabi mayo since I can't eat anything spicy. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate this for me. The chicken bento wasn't too special. My favorites has to be the sushi :)

This is by far the best Japanese restaurant I've ever been to outside Japan! The staff were ver friendly and I was pleasantly surprised with an "Irasshaimase" (Japanese for "Welcome") upon entering. The service was excellent, the food came pretty quick and the staff were very attentive and polite. The interior is really nice and the atmosphere is classy yet pleasant, and the walls have some beautiful Japanese paintings. The sushi and sashimi were amazing, I would have to say one of the best in Dublin!! The fish was really fresh and succulent, and the Tamago (egg) nigiri sushi had just the right amount of sweetness. The presentation of the food as well is really pretty and done to perfection, and I was surprised to see dry ice steaming out from under the sashimi! Also I really liked the miso soup here too. My dad had the beef tataki and a rib eye steak, which was served with a bowl of rice and looked really good too. In terms of price, it can be a bit on the pricer side of things, about 7-8 euro for just a starter, and 18- 20 euro per person for a main, but the sushi and sashimi selection is only 12.50, which is a good deal and great to try if your unsure of what to order, especially with the sheer amount of sushi on the menu. You can also order selected sushi a la carte, 3.50 for 2 pieces, or 4 pieces of sashimi for 5-6 euro. I really recommend Tekka (Fresh Tuna) or the sea-bass sashimi. Overall, 5/5 sushi, 5/5 service, beautiful decoration and quite authentic!

Highly recommended. A few points to entice you: - Excellent location, right next to the Ha'penny Bridge, down a little forgotten-about lane way in Temple Bar - Lovely decor inside - nice Japanese art, incense burning, comfortable lighting, etc - Excellent service. Very attentive, very friendly (if a little formal, though that goes with the territory with the Japanese I guess) Now, it is a little on the pricier side, but, the food was really very good. For starters, I had the Fillet Beef Tataki, which is grilled fillet steak slices served with Ponzo sauce. This was ok. The beef was far too done for me, and the sauce didn't have much depth to it. If you do like good crispy beef (it wasn't tough), this would be the starter for you. For main, I split the spicy tuna roll (minced tuna mixed with scallion, chives and kimchi base), and the spider roll (soft shell crab, avocado and wasabi mayo). Both were really exceptional. Served beautifully, really tasty, and filling. Be warned that the spicy tuna has quite a kick to it! Overall, I would definitely recommend it, and will be back myself.

I attended a really enjoyable Yelp Foodie club here. Seven of us, yelp faces familiar and not so familiar, were here to enjoy the wares of Banyi. The décor is nice. I especially liked the painted windows, really captured the Japanese tone of the place. The food I ordered was delicious, I had the Gyoza for 7.50 EUR to start and the Salmon and Avocado Norimaki roll for 9.25 EUR. Both really tasty. All the food was presented really well, the sashimi boats that Michelle and Bez ordered were especially impressive. I did think the portion of the sushi I ordered was a bit small for the price. And I know the folk who ordered the bento box were not full after it, that cost 18 EUR. The wine, chosen by Bez, was an excellent choice. An Alsace Riesling, which I probably wouldn't have ordered because of the price, 30 EUR is a little above my normal budget for a dining out wine. But I was delighted he did choose it, it really added to my meal. I also had the Cosmo Sake after my meal, which was a Sake twist on the old favourite, Cosmopolitan. For 8.50 EUR I thought it was excellent value and an excellent cocktail. The staff were extremely pleasant and very attentive. I even got a smiling thank you from one of the chefs as we left. Nice food, nice place and nice people. However I am dropping a star for the value of some of the dishes.

We were lucky enough to score a voucher for a 4 course menu including drink and coffee/tea for a mere 22 euro per person. Can it get better than that? Me thinks not. This particular menu would normally set you back 45 euro, which I believe is still good value looking at the quality of the food, the originality and the presentation. Maybe for a special occasion? We started off with a bowl of edamame and lovely house drinks (I had a very sweet verdejo frizzante) - The amuse bouche, a tempura tofu, was quite a large portion - but wasn't a big fan of the flavours to be honest, a bit bland, and awkward to eat with chopsticks. My starter of beef tataki was superb, succulent slices of meat served with a lovely sweet sauce. The star of the night was definitely the sushi platter. 9 pieces of uramaki, 2 nigiri and 2 sashimi. The presentation was as pretty as a picture, some flowers and dry ice. It looked magical...and tasted even better. For dessert I opted for an Asian style panna cotta served with raspberries and poppyseed icecream. WOW, I could have had another one of those! The restaurant is small enough, with a cozy downstairs part as well. We were seated at the window, and were quite cold, which was a pity and marking them down for this, as we asked if the heater could be turned up, but they just shrug it off. Other than that service was extremely polite and helpful. Banyi is a little bit more expensive than most Japanese places in Dublin but the few extra euro are definitely worth it in my eyes, and I shall be back to try their bento boxes and more of that sushi. mmmmm!

Trying to find decent Japanese food while away from home (Hawaii) is often a challenge. So we were quite happy to find awesome Japanese food in the Temple Bar area. I had the sea bass bento box and mom had the miso ramen. I felt the bento box was a good deal with sea bass, tempura, 3 nigiri pieces, salad, rice, and miso soup for €13.90. Overall, the dining experience was awesome. The service was excellent. Would definitely go there again.

I made reservation last night . Maybe because we're 30 minutes late we had a table downstairs which my friends didn't like a bit Coz the table we had is near to the toilet. We had the Christmas deals they have for 3 meal course . The starters were great but the ebi tempura is a bit over cooked that it's a bit hard to eat. The gyoza that my friends are having are the best. On the main course we had a pork ramen which I recommend the best. The desserts are also nice . And the home made ice creams are very good also. Overall we paid like 120€ for the 3 of us. For a full course meal for 3 people with a bottle of wine .

If I were made to choose to eat at only one Japanese restaurant in Dublin, I would not even hesitate to choose Banyi. I have been here several times and this place never ceases to impress me. And somehow they manage to surpass my expectation of them every single time. This restaurant is great whether you just want to have a casual lunch with friends or have dinner for a special occasion. The staff are so friendly and very attentive that they do not even have to ask you who ordered what. Their menu changes often which I think is great as they offer variety. The food is delicious and is visually appealing. You almost don't want to eat it because the presentation is just too pretty! Haha This place is on the pricey side but every single cent spent is so worth it. I highly recommend their black sesame ice-cream and their salmon teriyaki! Yum yum yum! We stopped in the city for a quick lunch before our flight home and found this awesomely illustrated Japanese place - a welcome break from the pies, stews and burgers we'd been eating for a week! The bento boxes we ordered (pork and salmon) were delicious, filled with a range of sushi, tempura, meat, bean sprout and seaweed salad goodness. We were also given rice on the side and miso soup, and as someone who isn't a massive miso soup fan, I was pleasantly surprised! Also a special mention to the attentive and friendly service; the staff here were incredibly polite and always ensuring we were enjoying ourselves. Definitely hit up this place if you're in Dublin and want something less Irish - with €10.90 bentos for lunch, you really can't go wrong!

There are reasons I know I'm getting old, aside from the fact that the birthdays just keep crashing…read morein likes waves. One is my failing sight after years of relying on my eyes and my eyes alone to read. Another perhaps less common garden variety is the internal meltdown I face when confronted with a lot of menu choice in restaurants. If you identify with the latter, you may wish to save yourself a lot of hassle and simply choose the set menu here. If not, be warned, the a la carte alternative is complex, and for your own sake don't arrive tired or emotional. This is a prime mental condition eating experience. Famed Dublin restauranteur Dylan McGrath is an ideas man. His restaurants are as much about concept as they are about food, and though I'm sure there's a big heart in there, the head rules. If you want proof, study the menu. Across the top are taste categories (bitter, salty, sweet, etc.). Down the left are dish categories. So you scale down, then across, to see what combination of taste and texture your dish offers. And there are lots of choices. And a huge variety of prices. But what's less clear is quantity. And I was hungry and wanted to know I'd get an oul dinner into me before that difficult hungry phase that reduces my brain to mush and makes me want to howl like a baby. The very friendly waitress reassured us that though the menu seems complex first time round, after you've done it once, it's a breeze. (That's how I cottoned on to the fact that the wait staff here have post docs in maths.) Full marks for trying though. No less than two members of staff talked us through things, and they really did their best - did I sense concern that people are having difficulty getting it? Whichever - in the end, it was all too much for me - cue set menu. So, to my relief, for forty euros, you can certainly expect to leave full, with sushi starters - ok, it's not called sushi, it's the long one with the piece of fish on top of the rice (though more wasabi, please) -,delicious miso with clams and those delicate long-stemmed mushrooms that definitely have a name, beef skewers with rice (too much rice already) and potato main, and desert. The food presentation is beautiful, served on marble slabs and in delicate ceramics, with a Japanese-influenced simplicity. I thought the restaurant was Japanese from the menu but see from the website there are Spanish and South American influences too - not very obvious to me but then again I flunked the menu test. The sushi that isn't sushi was yummy, especially the turbot which was a smoky hit of flavour, and the sea bass, with a smooth texture that melts on the tongue. The beef is served on a mini-BBQ which, like the mushrooms, has a proper name. (The only problem with this method of on-table serving is being smoked out of it by the table next door who's got too much fuel on the fire.) If you want your steak more than medium rare, just cook on. My steak was a slightly mixed experience being a bit fatty, though my partner didn't have the same issue. Desert was ginger panna cotta, with melon granita, which was light yet intense in flavour and delicious. We had tried to book Rustic Stone, the restaurant downstairs, but it was full and they suggested we try Taste. We didn't know it was Japanese-influenced and I think they took this on board upon seeing our menu-bafflement and offered a glass of wine on the house. Fair enough. If I returned I'd be armed with a more rested brain (like I'd give it a full day off beforehand, take it to the pictures, buy it flowers, tell it it was looking great) and I would square right up to that a la carte menu, look it in the eye and plainly demand to know its tofu options, the brute, and I wouldn't take no for an answer. The Japanese are masters of simplicity, so ultimately I agree if for different reasons that Taste is not a Japanese restaurant. But the food largely made up for it, the service was good, it's a relaxing place to eat, and if the head wins over the heart, there's no denying it's a decent head. If you don't believe me, just look in the window where its image hangs pride of place, presumably so you know who best to talk to if you need anything explained.

Coincidentally, I had a hankering for sushi on the first night and so after snagging a reservation, off we went to Taste. The restaurant was located on the third floor of Rustic Stone. We were seated at the sushi bar for dinner. The bar itself was different from those that I've experienced in the US where the cooking area is lower so you have a view of what the chef is making; however, the bar seating at Taste was also way roomier than most in the US. My sister and I opted for the €60 omakase - I requested the umami miso and the duck broth, while my sister had the regular miso and the salmon broth - and added on some toro nigiri. We also ordered cocktails - the Eastern Promise and the Gin Garden - which were excellent. The meal was excellent! The nigiri combinations were sometimes surprising but they worked well. The quality of the fish was also very good. I loved the broth and cooking the duck breast myself - it was so rich and the flavours were deep and well-developed. For the "light dessert" they brought out three options: a cheesecake, a coconut ice cream, and a ginger flan. The cheesecake actually had this odd cheese (not cream cheese or ricotta) taste but my sister and I were obsessed. Minus one star for the service because although everyone was super super nice, it was slooooooow. Our meal took about 3 hours. Not that we minded but just be wary that you might be here awhile! However, the meal meal was excellent and my sister and I agreed that between us there was nothing on the menu that we wouldn't order.
