I've been seeing Dr. BaoKu Liu for at least 13 years. If I could give him a 100 stars review instead of five (5), then I would because Dr. Liu is a Godsend! There's an adage that things happen in threes (3), which happened to me. Within several months, I slipped and fell down a few subway steps and landed on my back. Next, I lost my balance in the bathtub and fell backwards out of the tub and again landed on my back. Lastly, I was on the subway platform at Columbus Circle and slipped on the wet platform. I fell backwards on my back! Consequently, each incident brought more noticeable pain to my entire back. I tried Tui Na massages for several months and only received marginal relief. I asked the receptionist to schedule an appointment with their resident acupuncturist. Mindy, looked at me and said I needed a REAL acupuncturist to heal my back and rid me of the chronic back pain. Lo and behold that person was Dr. BaoKu Liu! I thanked Mindy and made my appointment with Dr. Liu. He was informative, methodical and sympathetic to my back and balance problems. It took about seven (7) months for Dr. Liu's medical magic to work. It's been 11 years since I received his treatment; and to date, I'm very grateful that my back and balance conditions never came back!! Dr. Liu has taught me how to listen to my body; and when it feels out of synch, then I'm at his office for a tune-up. Dr. Liu is a very patient doctor, who genuinely cares about his patients. Dr. Liu always takes the time to explain things to me in terms that I can understand. Dr. Liu gets it. From his excellent treatment, curiosity, investigative mind and ability to connect, you know where you stand immediately and what the next steps look like. Last October 26, 2021, Dr. Liu applied the above defined process; and, I was diagnosed with Psoas Syndrome. I didn't know what this condition entails. But, after deliberate dialogue with Dr. Liu; and my personal Google searches, once again, I concluded that Dr. Liu was 100% on point. For the record, I saw two (2) other doctors before making an appointment and sharing my condition with Dr. Liu. Both doctors were baffled about my symptoms; and charged me for nonsensical procedures that didn't render a positive outcome. I was prescribed antibiotics, and took them until I had enough! Instinctively, I knew their prognosis wasn't the correct solution. I had several debilitating conditions like: inability to walk without feeling like I was being electrocuted; difficulty sitting up; extremely tight hamstrings, pain in the buttocks; constipation, stomach aches, chronic cysts on my gum line where I had a root canal; and silent acid reflux. As for Dr. Liu, I can tell you his numerous advantages: professionalism, earnestness, responsibility, wisdom, skill, kindness, depth, helpfulness, and so on. But if I had to use one word to describe him, it would be: amazing! Why would I describe him that way？My mother found him because of a small stroke that caused a crooked nose and mouth. My mother recovered quickly after finding him and was full of praise for him in front of me. Because I have insomnia, I just suffered from a serious insomnia that time, so I went to see Dr. Liu for treatment with the mentality attitude of trying. For the past 6 years, I've been sleeping 10-12 hours a day, and when I wake up in the afternoon, I don't start to feel refreshed until after 7pm. And I'm really happy that my problem has been solved. I've been going to Dr Liu for nearly one year. I was very apprehensive about acupuncture and would never consider anyone putting needles in me. My wife however used acupuncture and really like it. One time I drive her to a new acupuncturist, Dr Baoku Liu. After her session she secretly booked me an appointment. OMG! The next visit I ponied up like a man to take my medicine and I have never looked back. First of all, Dr Liu is not only an acupuncturist. He invented a deep needle method of acupuncture to dissolve injury scar tissue. He is also a specialist in massage. But most importantly he is an expert in Chinese herbal medicine. What initially impressed me was that he is a very good listener and took a lot of time in the first session to understand ailments and set program priorities. I understood that some fixes were quick and others took time. Here are the results: 1. Help with osteoporosis. Acupuncture on back helped increase blood flow to the problem area in lower back and along spine. It did take some 3 months of treatment but there has been great improvement. 2. I had general back pain and was restricted in turning my head, particularly when backing the car out. The Dr found my muscles were twisted into hard knots that I never knew existed. All This was taken care of in the above treatment. At the end he said my back and neck muscles felt like a baby's, so soft and flexible. Fantastic results! I do need an occasional tuneup when I do something silly at the gym. He is the man! 3. I had developed arthritic pain in my right hand finger where I couldn't open my hands for a few minutes in the morning. Dr Liu noticed my hands were cold, in fact found with his temperature gun to be around 87 degrees. Woeful! Bingo! He said that's the problem. Get hands warm and the problem will go away. He put me on a herbal medicine regimen for about 6 weeks. But 20 little BB's twice a day. I wasn't so sure. Well after the treatment, no arthritis! That was in October 2020 and still none. 4. I told Dr Liu of upper arm pain. After painful squeezing by his expert hands he found the spot as I jumped out of the chair. He said that is scar tissue from the injury. I told him I had a partly torn rotator cuff some 12 years earlier. He wasn't sure if he could remove all of the scars after so many years and wished I had come to him closer to the injury time. He began treatment of once a week. After about 6 weeks of once a week treatment the painful lump was gone and I had much better normal arm movement. 5. The Dr has been working on my life long suffering from leg and toes cramps since I was a kid, some 60 years ago. Acupuncture treatment has substantially eliminated them. As you can see Dr Liu is a miracle worker, but not based on belief. It is based on his training, his own research, and his taking the time to understand his patients. My husband and I had tried acupuncture treatments before from different acupuncturists in hoping that we will have relief from our chronic back and neck pains and so with my skin problem, but similarly our problems had minimal improvement and then the pain and my skin problem would come back. Medical treatments such as pain medications and anti inflammatory medications in conjunction with physical therapy treatments always helped. Just recently my husband had a terrible exacerbation of his back problem. He had this injury of his lumbar and thoracic spine long time ago, but because of the nature of his job it worsened the condition of his back. He has disc bulges, degenerative disc diseases at some parts of his lumbar and sacral areas. It was an ordeal to him and his family. Where do I start....I love this MAN!!! I know, love is a strong word...but when you've suffered with major back pain for over 6 months and no one but HIM was able to make me feel better...I love him. I had x-rays and blood work done; my primary doctor couldn't do anything but put me on pain killers. I hated it...so I decided to try acupuncture. I googled acupuncture in NYC and there he was...my hero. All the reviews said he was the best. I called and was able to get an appointment for the very SAME day. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. Within moments of arriving, I met with Dr. Liu. We went over every ache and pain. He even completed some of my sentences...when I was describing my pain. That made me feel good because it showed he was actually listening and knew what he was doing. For some reason...he knew that I got up (a lot) to use the bathroom at night. He said he could fix that too. I told him I was a wimp and hated needles, but he promised to make me feel brand new - my back pain was stress related and he could clearly tell. So here I am, session one...wow that's a lot of needles. After needles was some amazing hot pads for about 20 minutes and then Dr. Liu comes in and massages some of the knots out. Session two...less needles...less knots. No more getting up at night. Session three....less needles....way less pain...I felt so relaxed - I fell asleep through the whole session. I went to Dr. Liu for treatment after being in pain for 10 days straight. During that 10 days, I went to 2 orthopedics, the emergency room, and a chiropractor - none of them were able to help me even a little. I had X-ray's, CTscans, ultrasounds, and MRI's during this time as well. Additionally I was prescribed 7-10 different medications by all of the doctors that I saw - nothing helped me. I was in agony 24 hours a day for 10 days. I could not sleep, I could not drive, everything that I did hurt. I saw Dr. Liu at the recommendation of a friend. He performed a very thorough exam on me and stated that I had a pinched nerve between L3 & L4. He treated me for this condition. I walked out of his office with 95% of my pain gone and I slept 8 hours straight that night. 2 days after my second treatment from Dr. Liu I played 18 holes of golf completely pain free! Aside from being extremely competent and knowledgeable, he is a caring individual. He wants to help people. Lastly, when I finally got my MRI results (14 days later), they stated exactly what Dr. Liu said was the problem. I highly recommend him and his office (which is very clean and well run by the way) - my quality of life was terrible, he was the only one that was able to help me. Dr. Liu is the Best Acupuncturist I have Ever gone to! I am a student of the American Japan Karate Association. Numerous times he has cured me injuries by a combination of the best techniques involving acupuncture needles and electricity as well as amazing message. His message person is the best I have ever encountered. You feel surprised and then a day later you are all better. I have gone to best massage people and upper east side and the is no comparison. He breaks up scare tissue and saved me from needing a hip replacement. Most Doctors only understand surgery and physical therapy. How do you exercise a muscles and nerves that are shot? First you need something like this Doctor Baoku Liu's treatment and then you can go for physical therapy. During martial arts training I pulled a muscle in my groin area and I could hardly get around. Dr. Liu cured 50% after 1st 2 visits and after subsequent visits I recovered. Dr Liu is a master acupunturist. I recommend him to anyone who has any difficult situation, chronic back problems and especially vertigo, dizziness, chronic fatigue. When I went to his office six months ago I was at my wits end. I had been o two top neurologists, had cat scan, MRI, all kinds of blood work, numerous other specialists. No one could help me with symptoms of dizziness, lightheadness, fainting, extreme fatigue, nausea. I literally felt like I was dying. I was told I had atypical vertigo, and unknown immune problems. I was later told I might have scleradorma and vasculitis both very serious diseases. First he treated me for the dizziness and fatigue, I was able to go back to run my business, host events etc. he then fixed my back problem which I had sciatica for 30 years. I still continue to see him as I'm still stabilizing my health but I went from being housebound in bed for most of my days to right now living a fairly normal life. Just can't exercise or have stress but its a 180. His treatments are powerful and yes you might feel pain with the needling and massage but the benefits are beyond. Dr Liu was recommended to me by a friend and I just wish I had met him a while ago. I've seen other accupuncturists and physical therapists but I can clearly see the difference at Dr Liu's practice. Dr Liu and his staff are super friendly and professional. I always feel like home when I go there. I have been seeing him for several issues (shoulder pain,lipedema/lymphedema and blood circulation). In regards to my blood circulation in particular, I needed to improve it in order to help my uterus lining get thicker. I've been going through a fertility treatment for over a year now and having a very thin uterus lining is one of the reasons why my treatments have failed so far. I went to Dr Baoku Liu about three months after my 23 year old son died suddenly. I was devastated; anxiety was rampant, my body was tense, had trouble sleeping , had trouble concentrating, had trouble with feelings of having to urinate frequently. The overall feeling of anxiety took over my body and my life , making it very difficult for me to function . I came to see Dr. Liu to see if he could help with my tinnitus. At first impression, I could already tell that Dr. Liu was very transactional, as he was in a rush to be in and out of the room as soon as possible without any regard for bedside manner. That didn't deter me. As long as he was able to help cure my tinnitus, I didn't really mind his attitude. However, I soon regretted my decision to continue seeing him, as he actually made my tinnitus WORSE. Furthermore, he really showed his lack of concern for his patients when I saw him checking his phone with one hand while giving my pressure points a massage with the other hand. In short, I paid $420 for 4 sessions just to have my tinnitus worse than its ever been. I asked him for further help, and he referred me to another acupuncturist. When I asked him if he could coordinate with the new acupuncturist to send him information on what treatments he already did on me, he simply replied that there was "no need." Really? I had great experience with Dr. Baoku Liu both from mom's chronicle cough and my neck pain treatment. My neck pain bothers me from time to time until I was passed out one day and suddenly could not move my upper body. During some worst day, I could barely pick up chopsticks and little cough would cause whole back shooting pain. After a few sessions, my neck condition improved significantly. My mom has chronicle cough in the past 30 years. It is extremely painful for her to fall into sleep and bothers her a lot for normal daily life. Also, once serve cough comes, sometime, mom could not breath. Before I met Dr. Liu I was suffering from daily headaches sometimes forming into a full blown migraine. I starting getting scared and saw a local neurologist. After countless tests the Dr. said everything was negative and here is some medicine if the headaches continue. Then a friend told me about Dr. Liu. I'm the type of person who hates meds, so to have to take a daily med to combat a headache I figured I have nothing to lose by trying acupuncture. I am shocked to read of the bad experience by a previous reviewer. Dr. Liu saved my life. For three years, I suffered from a general imbalance and sense of dizziness, with intermittent attacks of severe vertigo that made my life miserable. It was a daily struggle merely to get up and get to work. During those three years, I saw multiple neurologists and ear doctors, had several CAT scans and MRI's, and went through physical therapy sessions designed to help the sense of imbalance most people were attributing to either atypical Meniere's Disease (I had NO hearing loss) or an inner ear infection. No one could diagnose what was wrong, so they made up stuff. Dr. Liu is not for the faint of heart - but he gets results. Couple years ago I had serious back problems and believe he helped more than therapist/chiropractor at the time. More recently, I've had another flair up. Saw two chiropractors costing me $100 in office visit fees net of insurance, and they did nothing to really help. Just focused on their spine "service", cracked my neck and back and gave massage. Dr. Liu is unhappy when he doesn't get rapid results. He asks many useful questions and his office visit costs are not much more (even without insurance coverage) than what I pay others (with insurance). But first time I came to him hunched over like an old man, he spread my legs apart in a stretching wishbone manner and at one point I said "maybe that's enough" and he said "I don't think so." I want to share my experience with Acupuncture. First of all I never believed it would cure my problem until I was recommend to Dr. Baoku Liu. All this time I thought I was suffering with real bad allergies, but that was not the case. Every 6 to 8 months I will get this real bad itch in my throat which would trigger a bad cough lasting almost a month at a time. The only way was to ride with the cough or take antibiotics when it would turn into chronic Bronchitis. I've had it for years since I was 10 years old.
