Arrived in Barcelona and have heard nothing, but praise for La Boqueria, a foodie haven. This huge and intimate market was unbelievable. The fresh seafood, fruits, eggs, desserts and cured meats were remarkable. As good as everything looks, we just wanted to eat prepared dishes, NOW! Lucky for us, two bar seats opened up at Bar Boqueria and we quickly slide in. The tapas were prepared fresh, ready to eat and with a flare not normally found in a bar setting. There were huge crowds circling the bar and the staff was busting hump. As we eyed the meals delivered around us, our mouthes were salivating like crazy. With much trepidation, we made five selections. The bread with tomato, olive oil and light salt was ok but not on par with the rest of our choices. The baby fried squid was lightly battered, crunchy and fabulous when coated in fresh lemon juice. The Camerote prawns were tempora battered and drizzled with a slightly spicy aioli. They were served on a small bed of lettuce and perfectly cooked. The crisp pop when you bit into them was heavenly. The patatas bravas were hot, nicely salted and with two dipping sauces. They were good but nothing to write home about. The order of four razor clams blew the doors off. The clams were briny, hot and a fabulously smooth taste I've not experienced before. The bellies were still on and the taste was exceptionally good. They were the favorite of the night, hands down. Sitting next to total strangers and sharing some food and great conversation makes the meal even more special. It transformed from a meal to an experience. Breaking bread break down of barriers and can be transformative to dining. To the hard working crew at La Boqueria, the chefs, quality food and perfect ambiance, tonight was a memorable meal. Great job and thank you!
Lives up to the hype! Shout out to Kareen and Julie who served on two separate occasions. It's nice to be invited to sit, and then get bombarded by a slew of seafood. My first iteration was carpaccio, razor clams, sangria and crab. Second time around, more sangria, the seafood platter, oysters with special sauce, and beer. Epic! Plus, a wonderful location with the busy Mercado de la Boqueria. A can't miss place to salivate over all the meats, seafood and fruits. Viva Barcelona!

Small restaurant located within Mercat de la boqueria along La rambla. Seating is easier for smaller groups as it is limited and first come first serve. You can't miss out on some delicious on tap sangria and oysters ! I'd say the shrimp is average , but definitely give the octopus a try!
As far as touristy spots go this is not bad at all... the food was well prepared and seasoned, service was very good. Not a bad experience at all
My partner and I visited on a Friday afternoon and snagged two seats at this bar, where the kitchen is in the middle. We were looking for a snack and got just that: some toast with bruschetta and drinks. We were there long enough to see servers and kitchen hustling... except for one guy whose sole purpose was to put the finishing touches on food plates. While everyone handling food was wearing gloves, this guy was not. Is that a big deal? Not quite, except this guy was stroking his hair, his baby beard, and touching his ears when not busy and was then back to handling food plates, which included squirting sauces and sprinkling salt and other decorative things on the food. Our personal experience was totally fine but I have to give this place one star after seeing how unhygienic the one server was.
This place it's awesome! We were very happy with the food quality, ambiance and the Sangria! The octopus and the scallops were so good and just part of the experience! Julie and Banti made it a very unforgettable experience! We will go back fot sure next time we are back in Barcelona!
A great place to eat lots of protein Uber casual yet Uber delicious. Atmosphere was really fun too! Great people watching!
This place should make a Michelin star list. The garlic prawns were delicious. Must dip bread into that sauce. Calamari with shaved lemon zest was so flavorful. Octopus had a Smokey bacon flavor that was delicious. I highly recommend this place. So glad we just walked into it.
Located at the famous Boqueria market place closer to an entrance, bar boqueria is always buzzing. The seating is bar style and constantly moving. The second someone gets up to leave, another customer sits down. Luckily there's a designated person keeping track of how many is in your party & assists at seating you. Most of the staff speaks minimal English but there were 1-2 that spoke it well. We ordered mostly by pointing to the menu & that was fine. My husband and I ordered the grilled seafood platter, a bit pricey but it was delicious!! (See photo) it included shrimp, lobster, razor clams and more. The food came out quick & it was awesome to watch them cook it in front of us. It tasted so fresh. I could honestly say it was one of my favorite meals in Barcelona & my mouth still waters when I think about it today.
Found this place in the Boqueria of food vendor stalls by accident. It's pretty packed during the weekends. Suggest to stand behind someone who is wrapping up with the meal and patiently wait till the owners/servers give a nod that you may sit down. Lots of tourists dining here. Food: overall the meal was savory and fresh. My favorite dish was the octopus. The octopus was cut into large pieces that allowed you to really taste it. The grilled seafood platter was amazing! The prawn salad is something that you'll generally find at most places.
We accidentally wandered past this place, and the fresh seafood displays caught our eye. We took a seat around the counter service, and basically ordered based on whatever looked good coming out of the kitchen, which is in the center of the counter bar area. We ended up getting the tempura rock shrimp, grilled sardines, and potatoes bravas. The seafood was impressively fresh! I've never had freshly prepared sardines before and it was so delicious. The fried rock shrimp was prepared really well with a light tempura batter, it was juicy, tender, and meaty. The dishes should be coming out of a 5-star chef's kitchen, and far exceeded our expectations for a market stall. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area!

I ordered the grilled seafood platter . It came with a good combo of mussels, razor clams, lots of shrimp, scallop and oyster. Everything was quite fresh. The only issue was that I of the shrimps was undercooked and another was black (maybe not fresh). The boneless chicken wings were tasty. read more
Bar Boqueria is a strong option when wandering through the Mercat de la Boqueria. After nibbling on some meats and cheeses walking around the market, we noticed a few stools open up just as we were walking past, and didn't hesitate to grab them. Grab seats first, look at a menu second. It's crowded for a reason, trust it. Sure enough Bar Boqueria provided some great seafood options, and I wish I could have tried a lot more there. Baby Squid with Lime - these were really tasty, although I ignored that the little guys still had eyeballs looking at me. Probably would find something else to order next time Salmon Tataki - can't go wrong with this dish, more Asian than Spanish. The little green onion was surprisingly powerful, but the perfect amount for each piece of the just barely seared salmon Wagyu Ravioli - filling was very fine and flavorful, kind of a surprise at a place that was really slinging fried battered seafood around, quite a bit. Mixed Seafood Ceviche was my favorite, definitely get this one. Served with Aji Amarillo and large fried calamari rings to offset the cool seafood. Nice Peruvian flavors going on here. Overall a good spot in a highly touristy area. And sitting at the bar, you have a nice show of food prep going on. read more

This post is a day late, but great experience, exceptional service and it does get busy, also it's good to know they close on Sundays. Overall the grilled seafood combo, oysters, and ceviche was not a disappointment. Everything was fresh and curved our cravings. One thing I saw another person order was the fish n chips....will return and try that before I leave Barcelona! read more
Even though I had been to the Mercat de la Boqueria on previous trips to Barcelona, I had not given serious thought to eating at one of the multitude of counters until I saw Phil Rosenthal do it with gusto with a local guide on his PBS series, "I'll Have What Phil's Having". He actually went to El Quim de la Boqueria which is locally famous for their grilled octopus & fried eggs. It did look delicious, but I wasn't wedded to having the one dish, just the multi-sensory experience of dining amid the hurlyburly activity in the market (photo: http://bit.ly/2Bn1gVG). That explains why Jamie W. and I took the first two available stools at this spot just as we were walking by. We saw two Asian girls devouring a plate of razorfish clams and crab legs on one side, and a young German couple peeling a plate of grilled prawns on the other side. Jamie and I came to realize this must be the place. Plates were flying in front of us straight from the grill. It was hard to decide what to order since all the seafood looked and smelled so appetizing. We tried to control ourselves because we had dinner reservations that evening, and it was already 2PM. First things first, we knew we wanted the Flatbread with Tomato, a generous plateful for just 3€ (photo: http://bit.ly/2i66T5Q). It was a very simple execution which led to satisfying results. Jamie decided to order the 14.50€ Prawns at Garlic which were delectably plump and juicy but almost sabotaged by the pool of garlic-infused butter in which they sat (photo: http://bit.ly/2jllWFH). Mine was better, the 17€ Octopus Galician Style (Pulpo Gallego), which presented grilled octopus with boiled potatoes, olive oil, and sweet Spanish paprika (pimenton) (photo: http://bit.ly/2n1otK5). I was beginning to understand Phil's epicurean excitement because the octopus tasted fresh from the Mediterranean even if it was a tad overcooked. It was definitely worthwhile to allocate some of our daily calories for the experience, just not too many. FOOD - 4 stars...the seafood tasted fresh and for good reason AMBIANCE - 4 stars...crowded like Grand Central Station but you just have to do it SERVICE - 3.5 stars...not much love but awfully fast TOTAL - 4 stars...I didn't have what Phil was having but it was close enough for us read more
The La Boqueria Market is a must visit when in Barcelona. There are several bars for counter top dining and you won't go wrong if eat here! The bustling market has tons of foot traffic. Once you find this bar, be decisive and swoop in on any open stools. All seats were taken but a rep motioned us over to stand before a group that was prepared to leave. Lucky us! Be warned stools are packed close together and you won't have much elbow room. What is on the menu? Of course, tapas, tapas and more tapas! We ordered mushrooms in foie gras broth, sardines, patatas bravas (I always ordered this wherever I went in Spain) and their seafood platter. My wife and her family, being seafood eaters, gobbled up the seafood platter. Everyone just dove in and polished off the platter in no time! The patatas bravas were good but I still rate Casa Angela's higher. The mushroom in foie gras broth--interesting on paper and quite delightful in the taste test! Anything foie gras based--two thumbs up! The sardines were by far the best of our tapas! The group that preceded us--also from America--had recommended it so we followed. Was pleasantly surprised! Def recommend having the sardines! At the La Boqueria Market, there are a handful of bars to dine at and this is a solid one! read more

Best place to eat in the La Boqueria market. The seafoods were all fresh. We had our best server Julie (very attentive) who recommended all the food that we had such as Gamba Langostinera (prawns), Lubina a la Parrill (grilled while sea bass), Pulpo Adobado (octopus with special sauce) and Sangria. They said that to eat in La Biqueria was very expensive, but we found it to be very reasonable since the seafoods were all fresh. We will be eating there again before we leave. read more

Located inside the Mercado Saw an empty chair and decided to try the place out. Perfect place to have a sit down while browsing up and down the aisles of La Boqueria. I ordered a beer, Estrella of course, and just people watched for 10-15 minutes before making my way to the rest of the mercado. The have a variety of food and wine selections as well. Looks like its busy most of the time since La Boqueria connects to Las Ramblas where you find most of the (annoying) tourist, but if you see an empty chair its definitely worth a try. read more
One must order the mixed seafood with lobster platter! It will not disappoint!!!! Don't forget to ask for Bebolt's spicy sauce. They gave us a warning about its spicy level. But for me, it gave my food an extra kick! I absolutely loved it. Bar Boqueria was so yummy, we ate here twice!!! I will definitely stop here again when I return to Barcelona. Thank you Bebolt and Glenn for such an amazing experience. These two really made our food travel experience extra special. read more

The food here is excellent, I think the best in the whole market, very fresh and they make everything from scratch right in front of you. And the ambience is great, with hard-working and friendly servers and a nice location in the back of the market. But note that the prices are expensive for Barcelona, with entrees running over 20 or in some cases 30 euros, well beyond what I've seen at comparable restaurants in the city. But you are paying for the location and convenience, and you won't get fresher seafood anywhere else. Overall we liked it and would recommend if you're already in the market and in the mood for a bite to eat. Note that the sangria is a relative bargain at 5 euros (but you have to order food to get a seat). read more

Walked around La Boqueria to find a place to eat and this place was crowded, so I thought why not. Just my luck, two seats had opened up, and we sat right in front of the cooks. To start off, it was pretty cool to watch all the cooks and waiters working in the little area they had. I was impressed at how fast they were able to move without getting too much into each other's ways...somewhat. Our waiter was Carla, and she was great. She welcomed us, gave us her recommendations, ensured my step-dad and I were content with our meals, and provided a friendly and welcoming environment to the other customers she was serving. I ordered the Blue and Red shrimp Carpaccio, which tasted very good. There was enough on the plate to make you full at the end of the meal. My step dad ordered their Tuna dish, which he said was very good as well. The sauce on the tuna made it very flavorful. I couldn't resist taking pictures of the other foods the chef was making right in front of us. They looked so delicious. If I didn't have morals, I would've been picking at those plates that were right in front of me waiting to be served to the people who ordered them lol. I would recommend eating here if you're not sure where to eat. I'm sure there are many other good places in the market, so I will definitely be trying them out the next time i am in Barcelona. read more

DON'T GO! Huge tourist trap. The food was greasy and overpriced. The service was horrible. Waited almost 45 minutes to get served and another 30 to get the waiter's attention for the bill. This experience ruined our first day in Barcelona. Honestly just walk around the rest of the market and save yourself from this. read more
The miracle of miracles - good meal and friendly service that did not take 3 hours! And that is with three of the six meals ordered being paella. Off to the side of the farmer's market bordering La Rambla, this little place offers a quick opportunity to sample various types of Paella and people-watch (we tried Fish, sausage and meat varieties - all good, not overly oily or salty). White Sangria tasted refreshing after a whole hot day of Barcelona exploration). This is not a fancy place, but trendy and fun with paella pans of every shape and size lining not only the walls, but ceiling as well. read more

We were in Barcelona during Thanksgiving family trip and spontaneously discovered this place, but food was SO good, so we came back twice after that! read more
My cousin and his wife just visited Barcelona a few months ago and gave this place their highest recommendation - and I'm not disappointed. Located in the main wet market, around 5pm there is a wait at the large bar-style eatery. The place was just jumping, man the vibe was incredible - the staff was preparing food with precision and high energy. Took us a while to get seated, but the grilled prawns, squid, mussels and clams were so good, just perfect, really. They even comped us some fried potatoes with the spicy mayo sauce. Awesome staff and service. So why not 5 stars? Prices are higher than usual, maybe it's because the seafood is ultra-fresh? read more

My favorite place inside the Boqueria market. Everything we had was delicious! Too bad we came on our last day in Barcelona, otherwise would have came back multiple times. The seafood was juicy and delicious -get it! You won't be disappointed. read more
