An absolute must. What's good here? Almost everything. I wish I could say "everything," but then again, their menu does tend to change just as their wine list does. Besides the staples such as croquetas, patatas bravas and pan con tomate, one of my favorite tapas here are the refreshing wasabi mushrooms. If you want something light with a bit of a kick to go with all the heavy and meaty tapas, those are it. The place itself has a very cozy and lively atmosphere. It's always packed with people (both locals and visitors) so expect to see a line out the door, but it's so worth the wait. read more

Such a charming place with great staff . By far the best thing we ate ( and we ordered a second round) was the tomato bread. So simple yet so outrageously good . The mushrooms with wasabi were really good and very unique- raw and sliced paper thin with a wasabi sauce garnished with strawberry . The patatas bravas had a sauce that tasted sweet . Got to the restaurant early Thursday 6PM, we were turned away the last night 1-hour wait so we calibrated. Why 3 stars? Food was good, service was good, location, ambiance price was also good, nothing was particularly memorable. I would stay away from the king prawn (shrimp sushi with mayo unless you like sushi in BCN). Mushroom croquette - lacking texture, good taste but not too successful. One of the best meals of the trip, and the some of the craziest and most creative dishes. Shown in my pictures are the 'must haves' for your meal: a salad of mushroom, strawberries and wasabi, squid ink and potato croquettes, oxtail and foie gras. We also had beef cheeks in red wine, cannaloni pasta, ham croquettes and dessert! I recommend pairing everything with the natural selection house red wine - You will not disappointed! The waitstaff was wonderful as well - We we're seated at 8:30 pm and stayed until 11:30 pm. Absolutely no pressure to rush our meal and we ended with some fabulous sherries as well. Usually when we travel Rick Steves tells my wife where it is we should eat at, and she in turn tells me. Not this time. I deserve all the credit for scoring this second-to-none hang out spot. Without Rick Steves' incredible power to summon tourists from every part of the world at hand, no surprises then that we were the only tourists in the bar, with pairs and trios of other local parties slurping down "angry snails" over conversation after poking them each out of their shell with some kind of wooden prodding instrument. It looked fun and maybe tasty, but allowing me to pick the place to eat was the extent of the adventure my wife was up for this day. She couldn't handle me scarfing down slimy yard critters at the same table she'd order a turkey sandwich, or something similarly boring for Spain. Nothing boring to report from me when I went straight to the steak tartare; raw ground beef with black truffle oil, foie gras and served with a crispy, fried potato-like vehicle for transport to your mouth. I know, it's a pretty scary thought for us Americans to brave raw meat of any kind, especially beef. But contracting Mad Cow Disease after eating this dish is a fair trade. There are specific times that Barcelonians eat at...so if you're trying to fit in, be prepared to wait. I'll cut to the chase now...the food: House Salad - one of the few places to get actual fresh greens. Filled with fresh romaine, endive, tomatoes, pomegranate,walnuts, mangoes, some other kind of nuts, splash of balsamic, and house vinaigrette Croquettes - Personally, I am a fan of squid ink so I liked this more than the chicken ones...but they are deep fried and rather dense/heavy...don't order too many pieces! Tuna Tartare - Delish, delish, delish...bits of tuna heaven toppled with arugula...delish! Potatoes Brava - standard...worth ordering if you love potatoes of any sort and/or have never tried it. Braised Veal Cheek Cannelloni - YUM! Rich, buttery, crepe like pasta stuffed with the most flavorful, soft, and tender meat. MUST ORDER! Angry Snails - Escargots in a spicy sauce...portions are large for this dish, so after awhile, it can get overwhelming Seared Scallops and Bacon - Exactly as it sounds...yum! There were probably about another 15 dishes that I wanted to try but if only I a bigger stomach or just more nights in Barcelona. Everything was good...service, staff...mucho bueno. One of my favorite restaurants I have visited while in Barcelona. Off the bat, the ambiance here was very nice. The servers are chill and talkative, and makes you feel very welcomed. In addition, they all speak Catalan, Spanish, and English. Initially, we were skeptical of the place since it was full of tourists (including ourselves), but the food did not disappoint. I'm not entirely sure how traditional the food here is but nonetheless their take on dishes were amazing. We got patatas bravas, and although it was our first time trying it, it exceeded our expectations. The crispy oxtail was indeed crispy and so tender. Added bonus is that they remove the bone so it is very easy to eat this. The foie also added some great flavoring to the dish. The meatball and squid ink were also very good. The meatballs were tender and paired well with the squid ink sauce. Although we initially got a ration of bread for the oxtail and foie, we ended up dipping the bread in the leftover squid ink and bravas sauce. We wanted to try the croquettes here but they were disappointing so we just suggest not to get. The chicken was a bit dry in the croquette, and although we love how you could taste the truffle in the cheese croquette, the filling itself was cold. read more

Just came back from trip to Barcelona and WOW this Tapas/Wine bar is phenomenal. The atmosphere is great and the tapas options are to die for. I had your basic Patatas Bravas and what was different from all the similar versions of this dish was how the dipping sauce was prepared. They serve theirs with a mixture of Smoked Paprika, olive oil and a bit of tomato paste. YUMMMMM. The other over the top dish i had was their mushroom tapas. This you have to get ... it was shaved paper thin slices of mushroom, purple escarole and slivers of strawberry tossed with a light vinaigrette with a touch of wasabe then it is topped with shaved parmesan cheese and finishing salt, i could have eaten four more plates of this it was so good. Delicious! Everything we had was yumz! Mushrooms with wasabi. Hint of wasabi in vinegarette drizzled over finely sliced fresh mushrooms and cheese. Super delightful and a great start to the meal. Tuna tartarte was excellent too with bits of avacado and crispy thin bread. Lamb was very tender amd melt in the mouth goodness. Ham and chicken croquette was a tad too soft but delicious nonetheless. The chocolate was a good combi of dark chocolate ice cream with sliced choc truffles and chocolate brownie. Bar del Pla Barcelona Review My husband and I were in Barcelona for his birthday weekend and we were recommended Bar del Pla by a couple of locals, so we decided we needed to try it. Food: We ordered the following: Tomato Bread - The best we've had on this trip. Ham and Roast Chicken Croquette - "Wow" is what you say when you bite into this croquette. I could've eaten 20 of them. Squid Ink Croquette - We've had a million croquettes in our lives, but never a squid ink one which was delicious. Beef Cheek - A classic simple dish which was very good. It's exactly what you were hoping for. Pluma with Cafe Paris - This was off of the special daily menu and WOW! The pork was out of this world and literally melted in your mouth. And the sauce...the sauce!! It was in a butter based sauce with 25 spices in it. We couldn't get enough of it. Squids of the Bar - The squid was nice and soft and we asked for bread to finish the sauce off - enough said. Lemon Pie - This dessert was delicious and was a nice portion to share. Drinks: We ordered two glasses of red wine, one glass of cava and one beer. Price: €74.90 Service: Fantastic! Our server was super friendly and very thoughtful. We had asked him questions about the menu, told him what we liked and asked for his suggestions. Everything he recommended was spot on. We finished our dinner, wanted one more dish and asked him to choose for us, because he was so good. Ambiance: Very lively! Tip: Make reservations!
