The Bar Keeps Burger is the best. I really like the Kimchi soup too. The staff is kind and courteous.

The name doesn't sound like it, but Barkeeps serves Asian fusion food. I ordered takeout for dinner, and tried samosas, paneer spinach curry, and pad thai with tofu. The samosas were good, with a potato filling and just a touch of spice. The paneer curry was very rich and creamy, but a bit on the bland side. The pad thai was very weird, because it was extremely smoky. I'm not sure why: if it's always like this (was liquid smoke added to the dish?), or if it was an accident (was it cooked in a kitchen or a pan with smoked food?) I've had pad thai in many restaurants over the years, from very traditional versions in Thai town in LA to super Americanized sweet gloopy noodles in small town restaurants, but it's never been smoky in my experience. I actually liked it because I like smoky flavors; my husband, who doesn't like smoky flavors, hated it. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3, because this is one of the few restaurants in town with multiple, clearly marked on the menu vegan options! read more

Bar Keeps is the best restaurant in Nacogdoches! The food is so flavorful and so unique! My favorite item is the basil fried rice! I also loved the crab friend rice, firecracker shrimp and of course the potstickers!! The vibe in this restaurant is so nice and it's perfect to take your family to! Update::: I had my graduation dinner here last night and I was so pleased with the service and the food!!! My family and friends ordered so many different items and were pleased with each and every one of them! Great atmosphere for a big dinner. I'm giving you guys more stars than you earned because I am hopeful you will fine tune your vision and menu in the coming months, bringing culture and flavor to Nacogdoches which we were severely lacking. Server was amazing and friendly. Clearly still leaning. Wait time was very brief between apps and main meal. The ramen was not authentic. I was waiting for the depth of flavor from the broth and it never came. The crab fried rice was so spicy (and we love Asian spicy) that it was difficult to eat. Even our waiter tried it and coughed - saying the spice caught him in the back of the throat. He then took it to the kitchen and they said the spice was "dialed back" from where it started. Yicks! As a family who is used to all spices (not just jalapeño spicy like most of Nac), this was shocking to us. You have got to recognize the people of Nacogdoches. As custom is Thai/Asian restaurants - offer a spice tray. This will greatly help your customers and keep the ones new trying your flavorful food. We had the potstickers for an appetizer- they were great! No complaints The ambiance/decor does not match the food. The restaurant can become super loud because there is nothing to catch the noise. I couldn't decide if you want to be a restaurant with authentic foods, a sports bar (with sports on the TVs) or a pub? I'm interested to see how this is brought together. Macklemore's is very cohesive. This place fell short of that legacy. For over $50 (two meals, apps and two alcohol drinks) - I'm not sure I can afford to keep trying this place until they get it together. read more

This place is kind of a sleeper. It doesn't do much advertising but my wife and I decided to try it one day and we have been back several times since then. The Chinese dishes are surprisingly good, the service is also good. I wish they had a good selection of draft beer but that won't deter us from going back. read more

This place is consistantly out of every beer that I order off thier digital menu that i would guess can be updated on the fly. To make matters worse, the beers I typically order are from a local brewery right down the street. Service could also be a bit faster. read more

Asian fusion bar in Nacogdoches that serves a variety of fares. From ramen to wings and waffles this place has a little bit of everything. We tried the calamari, lettuce wraps, pot stickers, ramen, breakfast plate, chicken teriyaki bowl and even some Asian tacos. Keep in mind this is a fusion bar so it isn't a super authentic menu but all the entrees did have a pretty good flavoring. Always loved coming here for takeout when we are on our way to kentucky from Houston. We loved everything we ordered but we always get double orders of the shrimp appetizer and the crab fried rice. This was our second visit to Thai establishment. First visit the food and service were great. Second visit service was very poor, and food was mostly underwhelming. We arrived and were seated only to be greeted by our server at least 5 minutes later. When seated we were only given brunch menus, I asked the server if the regular menu was available which she said yes, but didn't bring one by, so I looked it up on my phone. My husband got the Southern Benny, on Facebook they advertise shredded hash browns, we received circular packaged frozen ones that came out cold, so that was disappointing. The Benny was tasty itself but that was the only plus of the dish. I ordered Thai Green Curry with Chicken heat level 2. It had zero heat, I'm not sure if the server didn't mentioned it when putting in my order since she had to come back to the table to ask if I wanted chicken beef or shrimp. The curry was flat on flavor and seemed like it had too much of some flavor I've never had in green curry before. It was a similar flavor to an Indian curry which isn't a preferred flavor of mine. They says it has fresh basil leaves, but there was literally only 1 leaf. When the server went to refill our drinks, she took a tea from another table and a tea from our table and while rounding the corner looked at other hands like she forgot which came from which, we just swapped the straws out vs asking for a new drink. 50/50 chance it was the right one. They had tea pitchers so I'm not sure why they wouldn't just use them. The first 20 minutes of our visit the server seemed overwhelmed with us and 2 other tables. The last 15 minutes she actually stopped by the table 3 times to check on us. Overall, we probably won't be back for a while. Service was just poor and food was just half ok. read more

Today is my birthday so my wife wanted to take me out for a lunch. We moved here 10 months ago from Monterey, Ca. It's been quite an adjustment, yet complete. Anyway, we loved the food. Had the crab fried rice and the basil fried rice with chicken and shrimp. I like that you can choose how Spicy you want your food. On a 1-3 scale, we had 3 for the basil fried and 2 on the crab rice. Their happy hour specials seem nice, but my boyfriend and I had a bleezy scheduled, so we took our food togo. Def will be back for that $4 Long Island tho. It took everything not to open my box before I made it home, but I fought the urge. Hard to believe, but the basil fried rice was actually a lot tastier than the crab fried rice. Don't get me wrong, the crab one is also delicious, but you can't really taste the crab when you're eating the rice like I expected. This place is awesome!!! The name and design of the sign and building are quite misleading. I would've thought it was good old American bar food but noooooo. It's an amazing mixture of Thai, Indian, American...we tried the Thai Basil Fried Rice with chicken and the Rotating Thalis which had Saag Paneer, Turkey Keema, Chicken Curry, Sautéed Carrot Curry and Raita with naan and basmati rice. Sooooo good! The service was wonderful and our server took quite a bit of time talking us through the menu. We will be back to try the Pork Ramen which comes highly recommended! read more

Amazing cuisine in Nacogdoches! Very metropolitan. We had three "shares" and were all superior. BEST edamame I've ever had and I've had it at a lot of great places. Firecracker Shrimp was the right amount of spicy. I've never had samosas and decided to try them just to have something different. They were very tasty with two different dipping sauces that were both outstanding. Pad Thai for our main course was spot on. This place is awesome! Their menu os very diverse. They have amazing happy hour deals, lunch specials, the calmest ambiance and TV sets around the restaurant so you can watch whatever you want at any time. Servers are great, drinks are awesome, and the FOOD IS SPECTACULAR. Something you really wouldn't expect out of Nacogdoches but they have it all. Food can be spicy so definitely recommend asking to make sure the spice level is within your limits. read more
