An eclectic, hole-in-the-wall restaurant with a phenomenal offering of shared plates and house cocktails. Bar La Loca is unlike anything else I have had in the Lake Tahoe (or Reno) area. It is worth the trip up Mt. Rose for a date night. It is located at the end of a strip mall shopping center with discrete signage and a funky Jameson "open" sign. The seating arrangement is unique and varied with wooden benches, hearth height tables, and bistro cafe tables. Surprisingly, the bistro table with offbeat folding chairs was surprisingly comfortable for my husband and I through 4-courses. Service was warm and welcoming. Like actually welcoming. Like we were sitting in their living room as an invited guest. The drink menu was presented in an oversized, laminated booklet whereas the food menu was printed out from the POS at the timestamp for when we sat--carbon copies with white and yellow paper. The whole experience so far felt like we had stumbled into a secret speakeasy. The cocktail list was very unique. I took a chance and ordered Abu Hassan Does The Amalfi which had Arak (anise taste) cut with gin to bring down the strength which mixed well with the mint and lemon. I do not usually like anise and didn't know what Arak was, so when I smelled it I figured I would be trading drinks with my husband. Opposite actually--it was a delicious cocktail and ended up ordering a second during the meal. The husband ordered Hugo Verde which was a thick cocktail, almost like a juice. He ordered Double L Negrini next, and it was amazing!! I had a sip and wished I had ordered it myself! A harmonious mix between a Negroni and martini. I would recommend starting with this cocktail if you are unsure. On to the food, we placed our order for four dishes at the top, and each on was delicious and timed out perfectly to allow us to appreciate each dish and enjoy our conversation. Each dish was perfect for my husband and I to share. Started with Pan Tomat which was grilled bread with a spicy tomato spread. Then, the Grilled Chorizo with Amora (French mustard) was served in a mini cast iron skillet. I'm not a fan of mustard, but the mini chorizo links paired perfectly with the French-style mustard. We then enjoyed our veggies with Britt's Panzanella. This salad was bright, fresh and had the most delicious tomatoes! Finally, we ended with Ribeye Cap from the Josper which was perfectly cooked--pink inside and charred on the outside. The meat was served already cut which was perfect for sharing and did not require a knife. As we completed each dish I told my husband that it was my favorite. Literally every dish was amazing. I would not have changed a single thing, but at the same time I am eager to taste the dishes that I didn't not get to try. I am looking forward to an excuse to do another date night up in Incline as soon as possible. read more

Bar La Loca feels like one of North Lake Tahoe's best kept secrets, with an eclectic vibe, an excellent cocktail program, and an even more impressive food menu. The servers were kind and attentive, if a bit shy, but the real standout was the man behind the bar and, I assume, the menu. He was incredibly friendly, took the time to visit each table, and genuinely seemed excited to hear how everyone was enjoying their food and drinks. You can tell he has a real passion for what he does, and that energy adds so much to the experience. I'm blanking on the name of the cocktail I ordered, but it was a mix of a martini and a Negroni, which sounded unusual at first and ended up being absolutely delicious. On the food side, everything we ordered was bang on. The bread with rich tomato sauce was comforting and full of flavor, the chorizo sausages were spicy and savory, the endive salad was bright and acidic, and the milanesa was incredibly tender with a deep earthy flavor and paired with an arugula salad to balance things out. Came here after a ski day and was pleasantly surprised at the different types of food offered here compared to the typical Tahoe apres ski dinners that we usually go for (i.e. pizza/pasta). They advertise that they take seasonal ingredients and usually prepare them over a charcoal fire. Their menu presentation is also creative, as they type it out in a receipt format. We came as a large group and ordered their entire menu. It was interesting to see the dishes they came up with. Some were pretty good - such as the sausages, but some were misses or did not really suit our palate. Either way, we had a great time. I would say overall, the food would be a 4/5, but the staff was very friendly and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. read more

Bar La Loca is easily the best restaurant in the Tahoe area. We went every day over our last trip -- first for dinner and then to try more of their cocktails for a night cap. Though their menu is small, everything is so delicious and fresh. The pan tomate is surprisingly delicious and the mussel toast has a good spice to it. The steak is cooked to perfection with a great pan sauce. You can't go wrong with anything that on the menu! Their cocktail menu and wine list is extensive. Their staff, especially Easy, are so great and were willing to craft us some amazing off the cuff drink. We will definitely be back anytime we are in the area. read more

So glad I stopped in here for dinner!! I drove in from Reno to see Lake Tahoe. On my way out, I decided to grab dinner by myself and saw there were a few tapas options. Two were in the same parking lot and I'm so glad I chose bar la Loca. I was the first one in for the evening and immediately was treated like old friends by the staff. I sat at the bar and Easy kept me company the whole night and made sure I was taken care of all night. The mussel toast is a MUST. And the Milanesa was so tender and crispy. Everything had so much flavor. The kitchen also sent out some complementary potatoes. Even thought their menu is small, I ate way too much and would come back in a heartbeat to try more. Anyone who has a passion for food must come here, as the cook really shares a huge abundance of it through the food! Lovely service and sweet people who explained the menu to us. I don't usually write reviews, but i felt compelled as soon as i took my first bite here. At the time of this review, this place had no website and no online presence, I almost wasn't sure if I should try it. But it is easily one of the best restaurants I've visited in awhile (and not just in Tahoe). When you walk in it's like you've been transported into a hip restaurant in Silverlake LA, with cozy lighting and tasteful music. Our pan con tomate came out first, and my god, it may have been the tastiest dish on the menu. Better than the ones I've had in Spain. Endive salad was like a fancy Caesar salad, chicken milanesa was crispy, tender, and perfectly seasoned, and the potatoes had the most unique texture (in a good way - you'll see). Don't skip the cocktails - the bartender Ez is great and will pretty much make whatever you want. These guys truly made our day and it was one of the highlights of our trips. I've wanted to try this place for several months now but I feel like they are never open. Tonight I was headed elsewhere when I drove by and saw that their lights were on so I decided to venture in. Now I need to say I was a Frederick's Loyalist so being in this space and seeing it completely transformed makes me very sad. But that has more to do with the owner of the building and not the new occupants. Whoever renovated the space did a phenomenal job. It's casual and loungy and feels totally different for Incline Village. I was there at 8:30 on a Thursday night. The place was half empty. I was greeted and sat and the waitress took my drink order promptly. She suggested a drink with gin and parsley. It was different and when it arrived it was excellent. The issue was how long it took to arrive. And not just this drink the food I ordered and the next drink took a very long time. I had the Milanesa to eat, pounded and fried chicken breast with a side salad. It was excellent but again took way too long to arrive. My last cocktail was an Arak honey mix which was also excellent. Plan on waiting at least 15 minutes for a cocktail and 30+ for food that you order. Look, this place is cute and the food is good. What a nice surprise to discover Bar La Loca! It really isn't a bar. It is a cool bohemian restaurant with amazing food and a great choice of liquors and wines to complement the meal.
