By far my favorite restaurant in Reno. Every meal I've had there has been so delicious and interesting. They have their staples that never leave but the chef has been doing a great job with every menu change. Centro is one of our favorite spots in town. This visit, we had the beets, crab and artichoke dip (not pictured), Japanese sweet potato, and NY steak. Everything was prepared perfectly, and the steak was a great size for the price. Cocktails are always balanced and tasty. Sat at the bar, and even though they were busy, the staff were super attentive and made great suggestions. Some of our other favorites we didn't get this visit are the hamachi crudo, chicken meatballs (ask for focaccia with them), pork belly, and the corvina. We sat on the cutest little patio, and our server was great. Very attentive and when they were out of the Second Place, she recommended the loveliest minty gin drink. (Also had the best curls ). The cauliflower was great and I don't really love cauliflower. The crunch and spice was delightful and the pickled mushrooms added an amazing bite. The Hamachi crudo was a fun mix of flavors. The smokey flavor with the bright chili was perf. The Crab and Artichoke dip was bright and rich. From the crunch of the bread to the nip of the slaw this was perfect. The three of us decided to order a selection of tapas to share, and everything was absolutely amazing. The flavors were spot on and perfect for sharing. What really impressed me was the service--they even brought our to-go order next door to 1864 Tavern. Now that's what I call going above and beyond! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, which really adds to the overall experience and speaks volumes about the restaurant. I also loved the patio in the back it's such a great space. My friend and I were out antiquing on the other end of town, and Centro popped up on Yelp search for lunch. I drive through this section of California Ave literally hundreds of times and didn't know about Centro! So glad we decided to try, because everything about our Friday lunch was LOVELY. It wasn't crowded, and we were the only party in the back patio, which is cozy and beautiful. Really enjoyed sitting there and decompressing... And the food. Smaller, bistro sized portion and that worked so well for us. The Huckleberry Sour was perfect for a hot summer afternoon. The Ancho Chocolate mousse was incredible. I can't recommend Centro Bar and Kitchen enough! We chose it to celebrate our anniversary, and from the moment I made the reservation, they made us feel incredibly special. After noting our anniversary on the reservation, Erin personally reached out to ask how long we'd been married and even offered us a complimentary toast. It was such a thoughtful touch before we had even arrived. When we walked in, we were greeted by name, and Erin took the time to explain the menu and answer every question we had. The service throughout the evening was exceptional. The food and cocktails were outstanding. Each dish arrived with perfect timing, and you could truly taste the love and care that went into every plate. Everything was creative, beautifully presented, and packed with incredible flavor. The cocktails were delicious, the Caesar salad tasted incredibly fresh with a rich house-made dressing and perfectly sliced anchovies, and the roasted beets were my absolute favorite--I've never had a beet dish with so many complementary flavors. The New York steak and potatoes were cooked to perfection. To end the evening, Erin brought out our limoncello almond cake with a sparkler candle and a handwritten anniversary card signed by the entire staff. It was such a heartfelt surprise that made the night even more memorable. This was my first experience at a tapas-style restaurant, and I was a little worried it wouldn't feel like a complete meal. Centro offers a wide range of cuisines and drinks, and you can tell a lot of thought went into the menu. If you're spending your hard-earned dollars to vote for quality over quantity, Centro is a great choice. If you're focused on value for the price, you may leave a little conflicted. The vibe gets crowded during peak dinner hours. We sat at the bar and had fun watching the bartenders craft drinks and peek into the open kitchen at the same time. Food: We were very hungry and ordered five dishes plus a couple rounds of drinks. My FAVORITE: Grilled Octopus - Wowza. Deep smoky flavor in every bite that makes you want more. Served with a Cholula-style sauce and fresh jalapeños so you can control the heat (I cranked it all the way up). The roasted potatoes on the side were crispy outside, soft inside, and added great texture. Only complaint: I wanted a bigger portion. 10/10 Shawarma Spiced Chicken Meatballs - Easy win. Flavorful and comforting. The hummus complemented the meatballs without overpowering them. I didn't really taste the lemon, but we were also inhaling our food. Split between two people, you get about four bites each. 8/10 Roasted Cauliflower - Great flavors overall. Some pieces were larger than others, so the roast wasn't uniform, but still tasty. Bonus points for mushrooms because I like them. Phone did not eat first. 7/10 Centro Bruschetta - Decorative flowers weren't mentioned on the menu. Flavor was good, but the smoked salmon dominated everything. It felt like a lox bagel reinvented as toast, which left me a bit confused. Personally wished for tomatoes instead. Good execution, just not my flavor combo. 6/10 Brussels Sprouts - We didn't order these; they were mistakenly served to us. They looked incredibly crispy and smelled amazing. Portion size seemed generous. Honestly wish we had tried them - they appear to be popular. Chocolate Mousse - Rich, chocolatey, and satisfying. Strawberry sauce was mild and easily overpowered by the chocolate (my partner preferred it that way; I wanted more punch). The white chocolate masa crumble was unique, it tasted like sweet streusel bits. Portion was small and presentation a bit uneven. 8/10 Side note: The panna cotta was sold out by 8 PM on a Friday, and when we ordered mousse there were only two left. If dessert matters to you, consider ordering it early. Service: Our bartenders, Bri and Davis, were wonderful. After most of our meal, we bought the staff a "Kitchen Round" (drinks they enjoy after closing). My boyfriend accidentally spilled his beer, and they replaced it at no charge. Taps look like a hybrid between a beer tap and an espresso machine. Ambience: Exposed brick, moody lighting, and lots of vibes. The back seating area has twinkle lights and feels romantic. It was packed when we arrived around 7:30 PM, but by 9 PM it had quieted down. Reservations are available, though we didn't have one. Bathrooms were clean with separate men's and women's rooms, though there were no paper towels, and... well... someone before me had questionable aim. Location: Walking distance from several nearby bars. Easy to miss from the street except for the glowing "C" on the door. We walked from spots along California Ave. Street parking exists but fills quickly. Price: It's a tapas bar - expect higher prices. Reviews suggest menu prices have increased over the past year. Portion sizes versus cost will make you think carefully about what you order. For example, the $23 octopus was incredible but covered only about half the plate. Delicious, yes - filling, not exactly. I'll likely save this place for occasional treats or return specifically for my 10/10 items (drinks + octopus). Is it worth it? My husband and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary here this past Saturday 8/1/26. We chose Centro because we love the food, the atmosphere, and the service. Our server Ijere was excellent! She met us at the door as soon as we walked in and sat us immediately. After a bit we asked if we could sit outside, she took us to the patio and turned on the misters for us. Our food was excellent as always, marinated octopus, beat salad with honey infused mascarpone cheese, pistachios, and time oil, pickle plate, sticky ribs, and pork belly. Went to Centro Bar & Kitchen for my cousin's birthday and it ended up being one of the best dining experiences we've had in Reno. Everything from the food to the service was incredible. We ordered a bunch of dishes for the table, including the sticky ribs (I don't eat pork, but everyone else absolutely loved them), the chicken shawarma meatballs, octopus, and the pan-seared corvina. Honestly, every single dish was excellent, but the corvina completely stole the show. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and easily the standout of the night. Our server, I believe her name was Ingiere (sorry if I'm spelling that wrong!), was amazing from start to finish. The restaurant got noticeably busier while we were there, but she never missed a beat and still made us feel taken care of the entire time. One of the sweetest moments of the night was seeing the staff surprise my cousin with a handwritten birthday note signed by the whole team. Guess it is time to update my review from 10 years ago when they first opened! Yes, we were early fans and have been back a number of times over the last few years - for better and for worst. Now that Centro is helmed by the amazing Chef Stedman, it is amazing, fresh, and oh sooooo delicious. They also serve lunch Wednesday through Saturday starting at noon. My companion, Angela F, and I decided on reintroducing ourselves to what Centro has to offer. We were not disappointed. Between the marvelous food and the excellent service provided by Dean, our server, it was a standout 5-star experience. Food was served at a leisurely pace with time for gossip, catching up, and just general chitchat. We decided to just start at the top of the menu and work our way down in future visits. We started off with Hamachi Crudo - a lovely mix of pickled veggies, olive tapenade, salmon roe, and rich tangy sauce. Our second plate was Roasted cauliflower with a lot of spice, mushrooms, greens and radishes again in a rich creamy sauce. I popped in for a late dinner at the bar and had a delicious steak, artichoke hearts and a glass of wine. The bartender let me try a few wines and didn't mind when I asked for a stemmed glass which was much nicer to drink from than the wine tumblers. Service was fantastic. Ambiance was mellow on a Wednesday. Note for staff though, when an item like the NY steak is on the menu with a note about it being served with "chefs choice of garnish" etc it would be nice to explain how it's served. Centro is a mainstay on California Ave. It's quaint and features an old school brick look inside. To start the meal off, an old fashioned featuring rye whiskey- delicious. For the small plates, we selected fried artichokes hearts with a garlic aioli- delicious and surprisingly light. Next, grilled octopus with roasted potatoes- tender meat and crispy potatoes. We had a wonderful time, enjoyed every morsel and cannot wait to go back! It was our anniversary - and yes, he forgot. So, I made reservations for us to go to Centro and told them it was our anniversary and then magically he remembered. It's a beautiful thing. We get there and they provided us two seats at the bar (we requested bar seating) and a bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate. August was our main server, but everyone came by to help -- pour more wine, water, serve a dish, bus a plate - everyone pitched in. We ordered ... Grilled octopus - so incredibly good. The prep was amazing - perfectly cooked. Then the roasted beets - probably my favorite dish of the night. So delish! Super fresh. The Harissa Carrots were another favorite dish. So good! Labneh and ricotta salata - plus the harissa spice - just GREAT! Then - the pork belly. We love pork belly! And this prep was very good! We enjoyed a Coffee Old Fashioned and a Golden Hour - two inventive cocktails that really hit that after dinner spot. But - then they forced us to look at the dessert menu. Panna cotta - that was reminiscent of campfire s'mores. So delish! One of the things you don't always get to see in a restaurant, is the amazing teamwork that goes into an evenings' service. Chef Travis is the new owner of this restaurant and he is doing incredible things to the food and service that everyone needs to experience for themselves! This review is long overdue. Last August I had the pleasure of introducing a couple of visiting colleagues to the magic of this restaurant. It was the first time that I visited since ownership changed, and I was excited for my colleagues to meet Travis and experience this food which left us all saying wow. I love this restaurant because it's built around the idea of sharing. That night we ordered the Crudo, chicken polpette, ravioli, and quite a few other dishes, all of which totally hit the spot. Last week a friend was visiting from Las Vegas and he found Centro on yelp and asked if I wanted to join him for dinner. The word yes could not come out of my mouth faster, and we both sat down for an extended eating session at the bar, watching the chefs carefully create each dish. We repeated the Crudo and the chicken meatball, but this time I wasn't too tired to really take in all of the flavors and complexity of these dishes. Everything on these plates individually was delicious but when you combine the flavors together, you really take it to the next level. The star of the show had to be the seared Corvina in a Thai style green curry sauce. The fish was impeccably cooked with the crispy skin and the most delicate moist flaky interior. It was served on top of a crispy sticky rice cake, which was infused with coconut and added a touch of sweetness and crunch to the dish. I probably could've eaten two poisons of this without blinking so please have this on your radar when you go. Another shocker was the house pickle plate. Simple and appearance, mildly complex and flavors, but the perfect foil to all of the rich dishes we had throughout the meal. I typically hate beats, but really enjoyed the pickled ones here because they had a bit of Asian spice to them. We also tried a grilled short rib, the incredibly tender roasted carrots, and finished off with the five spice cake, which was a total home-run with the Asian citrus sauce. It seems Travis and his team evolve the menu every quarter or sooner, so this is a spot to watch and check in with very regularly. They also have a couple of really exciting collaboration dinners coming up that anyone should be happy to have a seat at as well. I'm so happy to see Chef Travis carrying on the impeccable reputation of this restaurant, but putting his own twist on it as he goes. What a cute neighborhood gem! My wife and I went there last night with a business colleague and we had a wonderful time. I read so much about Centro Bar & Kitchen that I was curious whether it would meet expectations, It did not. It exceeded them. We visited twice in one day. In the afternoon we tried the octopus and the pickles. I love octopus, and this ranks with the best I've had. But the picles were a revelation. Though I pickle a lot of vegetables, I have never sampled pickled fruit. They were delightful. I am inspired to start pickling when we get home. Chef uses pickles in several of his dishes, as well as other elements and spices. The way the chef constructs dishes is what impresses me the most. Each dish becomes a wonderful journey through tastes and textures. Consequently I want to sample every menu item. I can think of only one other occasion in my 78 years when I have been so entranced by a restaurant. read more

Cute place but food was meh. Caesar salad was not bad but wayyyy too much dressing and felt so heavy. Karate chicken was so fried, there wasn't much chicken to taste and it didn't really have much of a taste at all, just crispy. The staff is really nice. The wine was good. read more

Great date night. We had the pickled platter, some fun summer cocktails, fried artichokes ( my fave), karaage, and pork belly. I think Centro is exactly what the midtown dining scene lacked which is creative and high quality food in an unpretentious, casual setting. I love tapas and small plates because it allows me to try multiple things. We will come back again. The service was great and our waitress gave us great recommendations. read more
