Another bike ride, another stop at Sunnyside. Unfortunately, they no longer serve the ribs... booo! We both ordered the Seafood Chowder and split a slice of Hula Pie. The chowder arrived on the cool side, but the staff was very prompt about taking care of it, heating it up, and getting it back to us. There was plenty of seafood in every bite, which was great, but it needed some salt and pepper. I also think some bacon would have added another layer of flavor. I wasn't a fan of the focaccia bread that came with the chowder. It was more like eating a giant crouton. I think oyster crackers or a nice piece of soft, warm bread would have been a much better. The Hula Pie was huge and delicious. Definitely big enough to share! Despite a few misses, we enjoyed our visit. The next time we're biking in the area, we'll probably stop in again. read more

Great spot with a huge deck out back looking out over beautiful Lake Tahoe!! Food was very good ,my wife and I enjoyed the Steak frites dinner and chicken caesar salad. Steak was good, maybe just a touch under seasoned but it had a nice sauce on top that hit the spot. Caesar was excellent, dinner portion was huge and the chicken was delicious! Views from the deck and the overall atmosphere of Sunnyside put it over the top. A great way to finish off a lake day!! We were camping across the street at William Kent and loved the convenience of having a great restaurant so close. We will definitely be back next summer !! My friends and I were hanging by the public beach next door and after our jet ski rental time, wanted to pop in for a late lunch. The place was packed and it was an estimated 60 minutes wait for our party of 6. The view of Lake Tahoe is unbeatable, but the service and food here was not the best. After being seated at 2:30pm, we got all of our orders in by 2:45pm. For 30 minutes, no one stopped by to give us an update on our food. Once we asked, they finally came out with our food at 3:30pm. So 1 hour after sitting. They were probably waiting for all the food to be ready to serve at once as some of the dishes were already cold. The grilled chicken sandwich was pretty weak. Not much substance. The seafood chowder and burger were fine. Kind of what you'd expect. What was not OK was my friend with dietary restrictions asked and confirmed that her fish tacos do not come with the sauces (she asked for them on the side) and they forgot. We waited so long for food already so didn't want to send it back, but probably should've! Too bad, I had better memories of this place. For our bigger group, the check was easy to split. I don't get to this restaurant as often as I'd like, but every time I go, I wonder why I don't come more often! The salmon bowl is my favorite, and the zucchini fries are sooo good! The zucchini fries are exactly what you'd expect--fresh zucchini coated and fried until crispy and golden brown, then served with ranch for dipping. My only complaint? There's never enough ranch! We always have to ask for more. The Sesame Salmon Rice Bowl comes with a perfectly cooked piece of salmon, brown rice, bok choy, pickled carrots and ginger, edamame, and sweet corn. It's served with a flavorful sauce that you can add to your liking--and fair warning, it has a little kick! All of the flavors work so well together, making this my favorite dish on the menu. And then there's the patio dining. You really can't beat the views of Lake Tahoe! It's so relaxing to sit outside, watch the boats heading out onto the lake and coming back in, and just enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Unfortunately, the restaurant is scheduled to close October 4 for extensive remodeling after being purchased by Mark Estes. So if you've been meaning to visit, get there while you can! read more

I recommend a reservation as I can get very busy, especially around the evenings for sunset! Hadn't been here in a while because we usually have our dogs with us and they were not pet friendly. I wrote a review years ago telling them that if they were more friendly, they probably get more customers. Not that they need more customers cause they're pretty busy usually but you get it. Lots of people travel with their Pets and Tahoe city is a touristy place. My husband made reservations on OpenTable and asked if they were pet friendly and they said yes. When we arrived, I checked in and he waited with the dogs until our table was called. We had no problem getting a table right by the water, which was beautiful. We ordered a hamburger to split and it was made to order and was very good and the fries were good too. We had a good server who is attentive. You cannot beat the view from the patio just gorgeous. Eh? Right on the lake, it's truly beautifully views but sadly the food didn't quite live up. If comparing the other big player on the lake, Garwoods is a step up. It was crowded, but we were sat quickly with a reservation. And the place is big and they had a lot of workers running around, yet staffing seemed to be an issue. Our waitress was wonderful, but she was our server, busser and everything else. Which resulted in slower service and and dirty plates. The table was small, and we sat with dirty plates for 20+ minutes while we waited for dessert. Again, not a huge deal, but when charging $30+ for meals and $15+ for drinks, one expects a higher level of service. :: Honestly, I would have much rather just bussed my own table if that was an option. :: The fish tacos were eh: sadly they were very salty. The kids burger was fine. While the Hula pie looks amazing, and is huge, the fam did not find it good. The nut ice cream didn't work. My father in law loves and eats all the dessert and he just had one spoonful and that was that. Overall, it was passable if you're nearby and want that on-the-lake experience. One star for the great attitude of the young people who served us dinner. They were very polite, personable and took great care of us during dinner. Also we had a beautiful view and eating out in nature was pretty cool. The weather was also pretty great. Unfortunately, we were told this place was a higher end restaurant, and we were told to wear nice clothes-- think dinner jacket, etc. When we arrived, we soon found out that our 'nice dinner' was eating outside on splintering patio chairs, sticky and grimy from all the little rugrats running around screaming at the top of their lungs while mom and dad got drunk on cheap beer. As for the food; it was disappointing at best. We never got an explanation of why they closed the dining room when we had a dinner reservation. Closed for Lunch... on a Saturday? Classic. We took a two-hour drive--yes, two full hours--specifically to have lunch at Sunnyside with my 92-year-old mother-in-law, who was excited to revisit the place where she worked in her younger days. A nostalgic, meaningful outing... or at least it was supposed to be. Imagine our surprise when we pulled up on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and found the place completely closed. Not a sign, not a note, and certainly nothing on your website or social media to suggest that you'd be closed during lunch on a weekend. Because, you know, why would a restaurant be open at lunchtime when people are actually trying to eat? So instead of a heartfelt trip down memory lane, we got a parking lot view and a car ride home with an understandably disappointed nonagenarian. Two stars--one for the memories, and one in case the food is still good (wouldn't know!). Pro tip: If you're going to be closed during peak times, maybe tell people. Honestly, I have come here every visit, mostly summer, but some winter ones, too, and this was the most mediocre meal I have ever experienced here. My steak frites must have sat under a heat lamp for quite a long time, as the steak and fries were dried out and almost inedible. The food took a very long time to come out, and the staff were apologetic to us and everyone around us, and gave us a free dessert for that, but to wait 90 minutes from order to food and have it be that bad isn't worth the price. Every single person in our group disliked their meal, all of it was bland even after we tried adding sauces there was no flavor. A few of our dishes were also undercooked. We've been vacationing in Tahoe for well over 25 years and decided to visit Sunnyside on this year's trip. We had been there in the past. Our reservations were for 4:00, but we arrived around 3:15, and they were able to seat us on the deck. While looking over the menu, we heard another couple seated next to us order the halibut ceviche, which I couldn't find on their menu. When our waiter came to take our order, we asked for the ceviche, and he said that they do not serve it during lunch hours, however, the couple next to us didn't receive the same response. They received their ceviche, and it was well before dinner. My daughters were looking forward to trying their ceviche, and we had to explain to them why the couple next to us were able to order some and we were not. It was very uncomfortable and disheartening at the same time. (I should note our waiter was not the same waiter who helped the other couple sitting next to us. ) Our waiter was well mannered and attentive, so I couldn't understand why we were not given the same opportunity to order what the other couple was able to order. I was really looking forward to a pleasant lunch overlooking the lake, however, that experience and the quality and tasteless food will definitely keep us away. TERRIBLE. I've been going here for 40 years. Tonight we had a reservation for 7 pm. They gave away our reservation to someone else. We waited 40 more minutes to be seated. Then we ordered and it took them 40 minutes to bring the food. They brought out our salads and said our food is also ready do you want us to hold your food? Well no. First of all the setting along the lake is amazing especially at sunset. The salmon bowl was very tasty as was the fish tacos. The Thai seafood dish had good flavor but really needed rice to go along. For $44 it should include rice as it's not enough food for a meal. A High School friend (who I've known since Kindergarten) was staying at the nearby Everline resort for a couple of days and wanted to get together for dinner. I made the dinner reservations at Sunnyside as I wanted a Lake View and they had good reviews overall (albeit with some variation in comments about cuisine and service). Bob is a real pizza hound, but my choice of Whitecaps Pizza was vetoed by Gayle and my friend's Wife. The only downside of our night out was the relatively long drive from Genoa and then back home (~1.5 hours each way and through a variety of traffic and road repair projects). But it was worth it for continuing an old friendship and enjoying a great evening of conversations and inside jokes. April is shoulder season at the Lake, so Sunnyside was a bit quiet with dining occurring in the bar area. We go our great Lake view, plus a distance vision of the Heavenly Resort. Seating was comfortable for 5 (including wives and one of Bob's friends) and relaxing within this mountain lodge vibe. I found the menu prices to be a little dear, but consistent if not on the low side for lakeside dining in the area. Our server was an established seasonal worker (who was just finishing law school) and a great one at that in any restaurant aspects one cares about. Tuesday was Taco night, but we all went in another direction. Bob and I both thought that our Fish and Chips choice was an excellent one, while Gayle thought that her Thai Curry Hot Pot was among the best choices in recent memory. Bob's Wife enjoyed her Mango BBQ Ribs, while his friend had good things to say about his choice (whatever it was). Dessert was a single serving of Sunnyside's Iconic Kimo's Original Hula Pie® which was more than enough split 5 ways. Yes, it was a great evening, capped off by Gayle and a woman at the next table admiring each other's post-red head gray hair. We had a gift card to use at Sunnyside and have been meaning to come here for quite some time. We live in Reno and come up to ski at Squaw every weekend, but often don't make it past there to Tahoe City. After a warm spring ski day, we decided to come check out Sunnyside to have an early dinner on their patio! They open for dinner at 4pm and there were several others groups who also arrived at that time to snag a great patio spot. They don't allow people to sit at the patio tables unless they order food which I think is a good idea. Otherwise, people would have drinks out there for hours and never leave. How could you with that view?! The lake view from the patio is phenomenal. We chose a table at the end of the patio that was in the sun and as close to the water as we could get. They even have lots of windows inside that would make it a beautiful dining experience when weather is not as ideal. I got a glass of wine and my husband had a beer to start. We wanted an appetizer and had to go with their fried zucchini, a staple that they have been serving here since 1965! I'm from the South and grew up with fried zucchini--I can say this is some of the best I've had! The zucchini slices are thicker than usual. The breading is light and crispy yet still preserves the softness of the zucchini. We loved it! My husband and I both got the fish and chips for our entrees. It was a unique take on the classic dish because this fried fish was halibut, not cod or haddock like you usually see. The fish was more dense and less flaky. Just like the fried zucchini, we were impressed with the batter and how they fried the fish. It was not too thick or greasy, it was just the right amount to go with the juicy halibut inside. Even the fries were great! We skipped on dessert this time but definitely want to try the hula pie next time, we were intrigued by the macadamia nut ice cream. We had such a great experience here! The food was delicious, everything came out quickly with only a short wait, and staff were friendly. The best part of all was the lake view! You can't beat the view here, it takes your breath away for the entire meal. Not many places can be better than this on a warm sunny day! They have different deals and events depending on the day of the week, including some nights with live music. We will definitely be coming back again! read more
