After a long day at work I was wanting to enjoy a steak for dinner. Came across the Bar-S Lounge Supper Club. The atmosphere is that of a rustic cabin with taxidermy animals on the walls. We started off the meal with some calamari which came with the choice of three dipping sauces, Ranch, Chipotle Ranch, and Sweet Chili. Yep we tried all 3 dips and all were great but I loved the sweet chili. Meal came with choice of soup or salad. I had the salad with ranch dressing. Ranch is house made and was delicious. Had the smallest prime rib that they offer. They call it the queen size which was 10 oz of meet. Let's just say that if you leave hungry it's your own fault. I chose to have the Bar-S chips as my side. They are a baked potato that is then sliced and fried. These were so good that I may have to make them for my family when I get home. It was fairly late on a Thursday evening but not terribly busy. We had the nicest server who shared with us that ownership had recently changed. The overall feel of the place is western themed and a little dated. The tables in the bar area are all high-top which is not comfortable for us, which is why we went to the dining room. The poor man burnt ends are made from leftover prime rib and we're very good. The Hubbs ordered prime rib which was pretty good. The salads are fresh. I got the fish and chips. Lately everytime we come since new ownership things have been wonderful. Great service, and great food. The beef barley is always offered which is delicious and hearty. My 10 year old loved the clam chowder today. Google still showed closing hours of 8pm, but I called and they served food until 9pm. Tried this place again due to "new management ", but was a mistake! We waited almost 10 mins before someone noticed us to be seated. The waitress was friendly, but forgot the salads until after we were halfway through our meal and said "the kitchen was full of rockstars" as she sat them down. The fried shrimp was over cooked. New York strip was smothered with so many peppercorns we had to scrape them off. For the price, the food quality should be much better. Won't be back or recommend to others. read more

This is my husband and my favorite go to lunch date on work days. We can sit down, eat and pay in less than 30 minutes making it very doable for his lunch break. I love their bar s fries and haven't been disappointed by my meals either. They can be pricy but again yet to be disappointed. Location is out of town a bit with plenty of parking. The staff are great. You can tell this is a locals place by the interaction of the guests. The bathrooms here are very nice, very clean. I like that the stall doors have a chain attached to a horseshoe as a lock. The toilets are paper towel dispensers are automatic which is nice. For starters, the place is clean with a rustic setting. The staff are friendly, even to us out of towners Our party didn't try the appetizers. We came straight for the beef. Between us all we covered prime rib, t bone and New York's. They were all unbelievably fantastic. It's the best prime I've had in Montana. Everyone else in the party felt the same with their steaks. My wife and I went to Bar S last night and was very disappointed. We sat in the Bar area and were the only ones at the high top tables. As we were placing our drink and dinner order, a group of 4 came in, then a couple, and another couple sat at the bar. After an hour, all of those customers had their meals and all we had received were our salads! We asked the waitress what was the problem and she said there was only 1person in the kitchen. at which point my wife tells her the point is we were there before anyone else and they had all gotten their food already! She went to the kitchen and came back with our order. My king crab legs were barely warm and her tender loin steak was over cooked and tough! This was a special Christmas time dinner out and my first time at the Bar-S, and was so glad we got to go here! This place is so fun to be at with all of the animals mounted, rustic interior, antler chandlers, and was just so cool! I would recommend sitting in the bar area; the atmosphere is so much more fun than the dining area. The service was excellent, the food was absolutely delicious, and this is a MUST go-to if wanting amazing steak or seafood! The Bar-S has hands down the BEST steak in Great Falls! We ordered the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer and was delicious! The homemade cocktail sauce was so good and they use large jumbo shrimp; fresh, big, and plump! I ordered the filet mingon, which was cooked absolutely perfectly, as was wrapped in bacon; paired with a baked potato and salad. I got the Seafood & Steak combo, where you can choose any steak and seafood option; you pay choice of seafood at Market price and the steak priced is deducted. I choose the King Crab legs and was not disappointed! The huge king crab legs were full of delicious fresh meat and was absolutely amazing. We all shared and enjoyed the crab legs and there was more than enough to enjoy and take home for leftovers. Delicious dinner, great service, fun atmosphere, and amazing steak and seafood! We went for steaks when my son returned from a year+ deployment. We all ordered prime rib rare or medium rare. That is EXACTLY how they came, not too salty or too many herbs added so you could appreciate the quality beef. It was my grandsons 2nd birthday, he had a cheese burger off the childrens menu, and had no problem gobbling that down. Most prime rib I order medium rare comes medium to medium well, sometimes well done. We arrived at 5:00 and were served immediately because they had a large party coming in. When I am in Great Falls I use to go out of town to Cattleman's Cut for steak which was very good. They have since moved into town......probably still very good if you don't mind waiting an hour to eat in an extremely crowded....probably loud....I don't know cause we couldn't get near the place.....so we set our GPS for the Bar-S......BINGO!!! LUCKY US!! With no waiting we were seated in a beautiful rustic quiet restaurant......attention to detail server......polite, professional, courteous........the menu is simple......steaks and prime rib their specialty......but that's what I came for......prime rib was perfectly cooked.....melt in your mouth tender.......the salad had a very nice blueberry vinaigrette dressing.......bread and honey butter......just an absolutely fantastic dinner and when I got the bill I almost couldn't believe it! VERY REASONABLE!!!! Well done Bar-S We'll be back again before we head back to California. There are some chain steak houses you can eat at in Great Falls......There are also some fine independent Steak houses. But....for a REALLY good, (Imean a place where the locals go to eat Bar S!) Only 2 stars due to the great decor! went with a friend for dinner for my first time there and ordered the 30oz rib eye with a baked potato and a salad. Salad was best part of meal. Potato was cold and the steak was extremely undercooked. Asked for medium well and it came out rare. Sent it back to be cooked further and it came back even worse. Burnt edges tasting like char burn and still raw in the middle. Not going back. Seriously disappointed with this place. id rather prep my own steaks than eat here. read more

My soup (beef barley) was the best thing there. My steamed veggies were dry as a bone and the broccoli was so over cooked it was brown. Not light green, not any semblance of green, but brown! My shrimp smelled like ammonia. My friend ordered steak and gave me a bite. It was just ok, which sucks for a "steak house". We both ordered bacon wrapped filet mignon, and loved our steaks, one of the best we'd ever had! Pleasently surprised that the side salad was mixed greens rather than iceberg. Let's just start with "My cocktail had half a DEAD DRAGONFLY in it." The waitress apologized, but yuck! The waitress forgot to bring out our soups and salads...apologized again, and brought them with our meals. The mashed potatoes taste like water. Do not get them...Absolutely no seasoning. We also heard another table complaining about the same thing. (Watery mashed potatoes). My steamed broccoli was way over steamed and mushy. My dad and brother ordered medium prime rib, but they were both very rare. I would most likely never return or recommend this place. The waitress was nice though. read more

So my husband and I along with two friends tried to eat here last night. We looked it up and had great reviews so we were excited to try it out. We walked in and stood in the front for over ten minutes. A few guys at the bar even told the bar tender we were just standing there as they looked and pointed at us. After a while a lady walked up and said very rudely "can I help you!?" Like we were just standing there do fun. No hello or welcome nothing. I've been here for dinner and for private events and was happy with the service and meal I received every time. The drinks often have a stiff pour, and the steaks are always larger than I remember from the previous time. I haven't been here a single time that I didn't see a friend enjoying their meal as well, so it's a great place to meet up with friends or catch up with folks you haven't seen in awhile. Excellent Steakhouse! Absolutely loved my 14 oz New York Strip. I ordered medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. The potato fries were pretty good too but coukd have been a bit more crispy and seasoned in my opinion. I also got a side salad however it was pretty confusing...it was more of a veggie platter. The chef needs to decide if he wants to do salads or veggie platters some of the veggies were too big to eat with a fork... I also had a few chunks if lettuce that were getting brown on the edges. So I wouldn't recommend the salad but I will definitely come here again for the steaks. read more

You just know what you are getting every time. That's the way we feel about the Bar-S. If we want a quality beef offering, here is where we go for dinner. We have been dining at Robbie's for well over 30 years. The rib eye, New York, and tenderloin steaks are always top-notch, but our meal of choice is the prime rib...hands down our favorite in Montana. The combination of high quality, locally sourced beef and the warm service offered by this restaurant have been pleasing customers for years. The only time we have ever been disappointed is when we've arrived later in the evening and found the prime rib has all been consumed. We then have to dine on one of their other bovine treasures. Today, we stopped in for lunch, something we had never done. The breaded shrimp was good and the prime rib sandwich was a solid offering. After seeing a half pound burger being served to another customer, I am convinced we may have made a mistake. Will be back to bite one of their burgers for our next lunch in town. Strongly recommend this Great Falls stalwart. They have never failed to satisfy. read more

I was passing through Great Falls, Mt. and wanted a "real" Montana steak in a "real" Montana steak house. I think this one fits the bill and met most of my expectations. It is quite a way from the expressway so it is really almost entirely local clientele, many of whom knew each other and we're obviously regulars. It was Saturday night and busy. The waitresses were on the run and took a while to get me seated and attended to. Once I let go of that and settled in for the experience, the order(20 oz. Ribeye) came out pretty timely and done nicely as medium rare. I thought it was a great piece of meat. It appears that the quality of the meat is a focus. The overall management and environment is not all that sophisticated but then, that should be the allure of a "local" place, unpretentious.....with good reasonably priced food. That is why it is 3 stars....the steak itself might be closer to 4 stars. The ribeye will occupy a place in my head as well as the friendly low key service. I would definitely return. read more

The shrimp cocktail ($18) came with 4 medium sized shrimp that were mush and horrible. The steaks we had were ok but the knives were so dull it was a struggle to get it cut enough to eat. Like many restaurants in Great Falls this is also a video casino just in case you wanted to waste a bunch of money while waiting for your table. There is also a huge bar here and lots of dead animals, pseudo dead animals and other Western motif paraphernalia on the walls to give the place a kind of cheesy vibe. A guy my husband was working with suggested it to him so we stuck it out. I ordered a filet mignon dinner, around 27.00 and not worth it. It was a very unflavorful cut of meat, HUGE but not what I expect for a filet. It was wrapped in bacon, a throw back to my Mom in the 1950's. Huge overcooked baked potato and a really good shrimp cocktail rounded out the meal. Give me a small melt in your mouth filet cooked with a bit of pepper or garlic, sear it and then cook it a bit more. This was baked or something. Nice server in such an odd restaurant. I've been working on a film about Montana cattle ranchers for some years now, and they took me to the Bar S. I know I'm a city guy, but this is the best beef I've ever had in my life.
