Through my hours of research prior to our trip to Paris, I knew a couple of things for certain. 1.) My husband and I needed at least one night where we could dress up and celebrate our anniversary/30th birthday in a Paris-y charm type of way and 2.) we MUST try the famous Christmas Bûche de Nöel...and it needed to be from Bar Vendôme at the Ritz Carlton (thanks to the Pinterest blogger who totally convinced me that this was the move.) Well, I'm not surprised at all that this experience landed itself 5 stars. If I could, I'd break the Yelp scale by giving it 7 stars. We made our reservations weeks in advance and from the moment we stepped in...we were treated like royalty. They grabbed our winter gear and stored it in the coat closet, sat us in our little private and dimly lit corner of the room, and helped us navigate the French menu. While it was obvious that we were Americans attempting to enjoy the fully French way of living, we had great conversations with the staff about where we should go and returned the favor by sharing must-see spots in the U.S. Our food arrived in the most beautiful presentation. I'm not kidding; think Beauty and the Beast styled cutlery and a chef opening up the serving platter to show you your meal - it was divine. Then, for the grand finale! They bring out the Buche de Noel (that we requested at the same time we booked the reservation), accompanied with a sweet "Bonne Anniversaire" tune playing on the piano in the background. The delicate dessert was presented to the two of us with white gloved hands and a candle on top! I felt like I was living in a movie. Last but not least, if you happen to be in Paris during winter, this is the place for you. In the foyer, there was had a massive Christmas tree that immediately catches your eye. Outside, you'll walk through cobblestone streets of twinkling bright lights and realize you're walking in a winter wonderland. Ahhh...Take me back!!!!

Stumbled across this place because I was trying to get int Bar Hemingway but they were full. I decided to sit outside on the covered patio. There is a pianist singing a mix of Van Morrison, The Beatles, and other well known covers. The ambiance is quite nice but does not feel stuffy. To drink I had the Balade En Himalaya which tastes like a margarita with a great minty hint to it. The staff all speak English well. Would definitely recommend

Delicious food, great service, everything you'd expect from somewhere like The Ritz.

Luca was my server and he was very welcoming in hospitable to this weary traveler. I sat on the patio towards the end of the row so I could take in the atmosphere and people watch a bit. Luca Recommended a meal with a mashed potatoes and sausage with French bread and salad and it sounded tasty so I gave it a go! All the flavors went well together; mashed potatoes were well seasoned the sausage had a good flavor, and the salad with the vinaigrette added a crunch in an extra flavor as well. I drank a French hard cider while I gobbled up my meal, which also was new for me and tasted great after I was done my meal. Luke brought me a shot with rum and some other ingredients, including lemon that definitely hit the spot after a good meal.I recommend Brasserie Belanger for anyone near GDN Train Station that enjoys great food and patio dining. Cheers!

The restaurant itself isn't small, but really not big, so it's definitely worthwhile to make a reservation at least a week or so on advance, otherwise you're pushing your luck. Everyone ordered steak frites (2 rump steak, 2 flank) and no one was disappointed. Steaks were cooked to order, although medium here in France is more like medium rare in the States, just be advised. The restaurant itself is lively and fun with lots of chatting, laughing and good times being shared. Desserts were Crème Brûlée and Apple Crumble, neither of which were disappointing. We definitely enjoyed our dinner and would likely return again. This time with a reservation made well in advance.

We were seated at a table facing the smaller street with IKEA City. Not much people-watching happened given shops were already closed in the evening and thus less people shopping on the streets. We ordered the croque monsieur and croque madame. The difference between the two is that the croque madame comes with a fried sunny side up egg. This was heavy but so yummy! The egg yolk makes a great sauce to soak up this cheesy and hammy toast. This came with a salad on the side which had a vinegar based dressing coated on it. The only thing is we had miscommunication with the waitress about drinks. We asked for water (l'eau) but they gave us distilled water in a bottle which costed us 8 euros. I learned it's important to learn to specifically ask for carafe d'eau (tap water in French) to get free water! Felt a bit bad that we were overcharged. Just gotta be careful with communicating next time. All in all, I enjoyed trying the amazing sandwich that is a croque madame. Wanted to give 4 stars for the food but the bottled water still irks me.

What a perfect first dinner on our recent tip to Paris! Started out with a great Americano…read more Shared an Escargot appetizer (Entrée here is Paris). 6 Escargots de la Maison Valentine. Snails served in shells on top of a light sprinkling of greens and a piece of toasted bread with the same garlic sauce that was on the snails. Although I've had escargot in the US, I don't think that I've ever really tasted them before. The garlic sauce was light and subtle so that I could taste a very balanced combination of snail and sauce. The greens, red onion and tomato added excellent counter points between snails. We couldn't help it. We had to go with the Confit de Canard Manoir Alexandre (duck legs, bone in) on a bed of thin slices of potato. The potatoes were sauteed with a crispy outer and creamy inner (I'm pretty sure in duck fat). The duck was fall-off-the-bone with a fork. No knife needed. Outer skin perfectly crisp. Nice little touches included a roasted cherry tomato and a sprinkling of chives over all. Paired well with a half litre (50cl) of Cotes du Rhone. For dessert, Crème Brulee and a Gateaux Basque. The Gateaux was like a cookie with a somewhat creamy center. It was not overly sweet but with the black currant jam accompaniment, I was able to add just the right amount of extra sweetness that I wanted. It went well with my after-dinner Kir Vin Blanc. Village Madeleine is definitely a great value-for-dollar-spent and a restaurant that we will absolutely return to.
