I went into David Gelateria in Sorrento and honestly, it is the best gelato I've ever had. Mario "David" has very creative recipes the selection is fresh everyday with more than 30 flavors to choose from. The fruit flavors are seasonal as they only use the freshest fruits in season. If you have food sensitivities there are tons to choose from without gluten or milk or nuts. Today I joined their gelato-making class with an epicurean tour group, and afterward we all got to taste their creations. The sorbetto al limone was bright, zesty, and incredibly refreshing -- pure sunshine. The mango was silky and bursting with tropical flavor. The coconut sorbetto was rich and creamy, like a tropical vacation in every delectable spoonful. The service is friendly, the vibe is fun ! My friend let me taste his gelato and it was the absolute star the Crocante Amarena. Dark, juicy cherries folded into velvety gelato, studded with crunchy almond pieces and ribbons of intense dark chocolate. The balance of flavors and textures is pure perfection. Everything was super creamy, intensely flavorful, and clearly made with passion and top-quality ingredients. If you're in Sorrento, do yourself a favor and come here. I had the gelato I have ever had at David Gelateria. I love pistachio so that is the flavor I chose. There were pieces of gelato in it. It was so creamy and delicious. It tasted natural, no artificial taste at all. My husband had cheesecake flavor, which was also delicious. It was a beautiful day to sit at one of their outside tables and enjoy their gelato. The ambience was pretty typical for a gelateria in Sorrento, very casual and laid back. Recommended by Rick Steves, who mentions that they make all their gelato on site. You can get samples, which is awesome. I tried the Profumo di Sorrento (sorbet mixed fruits), but ended up getting the Sorrento moon (white almond, lemon zest), and bontolo (salty pistachio). They were both incredible. We came here as soon as we could on our trip. I had heard about their gelato demonstration (not to be confused with a class), but was unable to sign up online. Turns out you have to sign up on location and it is word of mouth, nothing official. We were able to get in for a demonstration that night! We did not have to pay until we arrived. We went to the back and there was only one other family so it felt intimate. David was our host and walked us through how to make gelato. There was a lot of good history and background knowledge about both gelato, and their personal shop. It was just the right amount of detail for us, not too much and easily understandable. Our kids got to help make lemon gelato and see the machine in action. After that, we all got to have gelato from the front, whatever flavor we wanted as the demonstration ended. It lasted 45 minutes in all and cost 15 Euro per person. read more

I wish we had this back home!!! I tried as many gelato places as possible while exploring Italy, and this was by far my favorite! The staff was always friendly and there are many fun choices. I tried the biscotto, cocco, and nutella. All were delicious, but cocco was my top choice. The real coconut makes it so fresh and delicious. Since i wanted to try as many gelaterias as possible, i went to a different one each day. This was the only one I really wanted to go back to and wish I could've taken with me. Low quality worst gelato I've had definitely in Sorrento and possibly ever and I've had a lot around the world. Cheap penny pinching car sales like establishment limited to one taste. When I asked for a second taste they grabbed a large waffle cone and tried to sell me it before saying only 1 taste allowed and then giving me it. When I tried to order the small by saying small and pointing to the small cup the server played dumb and pointed to the medium. Then I said small again and they pointed to large before finally saying small only has 1 flavor which is what I wanted. Then they scoffed when I wanted to pay by card. My friends and I went here yesterday and out of all the flavors offered, Oreo definitely stood out as it looked the most appealing by far. The man who served one of my friends and me was nice enough to top both of our gelato cones with an Oreo, but he also up-sold us to the next largest size when my friend had tried to order two small cones. He also was not even remotely helpful when my other friend was asking about a couple of the flavors. The gelato was a little icier than all of the other gelato that I have tried so far here in Sorrento (I've been going on somewhat of a gelato journey), but it was still very good. However, I think the Oreo was my favorite part. I do not even like Oreos ~that~ much but this was not really an Oreo, it was softer and way better! My friend paid 3€ for each of these cones, but she has since gone back and gotten the small for 2€, which she says is basically the same size! Update: on a whim these same friends and I came here again. First off, the man who served us was undeniably rude. Additionally, we were up-sold again. If you get a small cone, you can only get one flavor, which he could have told my friends before, since they both clearly said that they wanted smalls, rather than only tell them after they questioned why it was 3€. With this in mind, I asked for a small when I ordered and only requested one flavor. The man just gave me double of the flavor that I ordered, even when I said no, and charged 3€ still. Once we all had our gelato, the staff made us feel as though we were immediately expected to leave. Well, we left and will never come back. read more

I can't attest to the taste of the gelato but I can to the service and hygiene standards. I ordered a small cone with straciatella gelato. The lady who was serving me was nice enough. As she was handing me the cone my husband spotted a hair in the gelato. He told her about it and there was some confusion with her English being limited. Anyway, she says something to the owner and he comes and grabs it out of her hand. He inspects it and tosses it into the trash without another word. No apologies or anything. He wouldn't even look at us and turned away to serve someone else. The lady started to reach for another cone but no thanks. How do we know the rest of it is clean?? Really gross and the owner extremely rude. There are many other gelato places around. Don't waste your time or money here!! read more

Heard about this place in Rick Steves' book. It was delicious. Gelato made in house, plenty of flavors, but not so much to overwhelm you. There were a lot of local kids at this place so that speaks for itself. They offer not only gelato but crepes and waffles and there is also a fridge with desserts.
