The location is kind of hard to find, but once you find it it's not hard. It's on the eleventh floor of a nice hiking and the inside is very clean and nice but as soon as you walk in the receptionist is very rude and unprofessional. She asked for my insurance card which is fine but she had a bad attitude and my insurance card was on my phone in a picture and she said to email it to them so I asked her to write down the offices email so I send it to the right person and she says "ay dios mio" (means oh my God in Spanish) while sighing like it was so hard to simply write an email down for a patient... after that I felt extremely uncomfortable being there then they told me it's $90 for my appointment with my insurance and I just left because they are horrible at communicating with the Paitents what the charges are for and just the overall attitude and vibes of the receptionist who is supposed to be the welcoming face of the Dr. office. I wouldn't recommend coming here because like others have said I don't really feel like they care about the patients and they're only in it for money.... I'm glad my eczema cleared up with a special lotion & I no longer need a dermatologist appointment with them. read more

First time to their upstair medical office. Despite spending thousands downstairs at the medi-spa. Doctor Rivas was great, quick, and concise. Constantino (office manger?) is lovely, friendly, polite. Self pay pricing is fair and on par with any other dermatologist office. So why, oh why are the office girls so damn stuck up and unfriendly? GOOD STUFF: Nice staff, good location clean facility. BAD STUFF: I went there with my wife for a routine mole check. We love the Florida sun. Anyway, everything was OK on me except for a small 8mm sore on the left side of my nose. Sometimes when I rub it, it bleeds and hurts. Anyway, Dr. Barba did a biopsy on it by taking a small slice with a scalpel. A few days later we received a phone call from her office saying it was bad cancer and needed to be removed. No problem, I can take it. Scheduled an appointment to remove it. Dr. Barba, numbed the area with some local medicine then started slicing away. She said she put four stitches in there to close the wound. A week later we returned to have the sutures removed. Dr. Barba removed the stitches and said the scab would heel in another week. Well it has been a month now and you should see the scar that I have on my nose. Also, it has been itching me today. Today when I touched it I felt something sharp like a scab. I looked in the mirror and found a nylon stitch that was left in the wound. I removed it with some tweezers and showed my wife. Now I have a hole in the spot where the stitch was forgotten. this entire procedure cost my insurance company almost $1,000. I had to pay a $24 co payment and read more

She was straight to the point. 1/ feeling safe, skin routine, very up front explanation of the possibility I had to recover 2/ incredible follow up, they record very carefully the steps they take on you, they want results 3/ the spa that people mistaken with your regular day spa in a hotel mostly done to relax you, is an aesthetic spa with highest teck to improve your skin, visit after visit, you come to the spa in a cocoon but not to experience the scents, and the massage, NO you come here to REJEVENATE and improve your skin, and treat it ! 4/ injections can be done nowadays everywhere, you even have dentist ready to give you little shots of this or that. But I am sorry if you do not want to look like a monkey, and have high brow higher one of the other, or if you do not want to look like an inflated tire, you need the knowledge, experience and the love of women's beauty. THIS IS WHAT BARBA clinic and spa does. Her team is exceptional of patience, devotion. Every routine, product, machine is tested on them before their clients. I am the full proof of the results that they can offer and they dedicate themselves to do so. I will keep some scars from my previous terrible experience, but I have not enough words to express how after visiting the other 6 dermatologists in Miami, how my gut told me this was the place to help me out of my nightmare. I used Selena at the spa she was just my angel. And then Doctor Barba, my saviour. I now live abroad, but travel to them because my results after 2 years are just incredible when I thought everything was lost. I have only been to this office once and it's a shame that it has a couple of downfalls because Dr. Barba seems to be a knowledgeable doctor and her staff is very friendly. The office is clean and the location is convenient. The two things I just couldn't shake were their payment policy and the parking payment. The first was the payment policy: I came in for a routine annual check to make sure I wasn't acquiring any skin cancer and to get a prescription for retin A. They asked me to either leave a credit card on file (written in my file) in case my insurance didn't come through or to pay a $300 deposit which they agreed to refund once my insurance made full payment. Due to an increase in fraud risk I really didn't want care to leave my credit card on file anywhere, especially when I was only planning on visiting once annually. In addition, the total cost of my entire visit was only $65 so why would they charge me a $300 deposit? I really don't think that a patron with insurance should be required to provide any additional means for payment (if their insurance approves the type of charges) and the co-pay is provided. After the visit it took me two phone calls and 3 checks to my statement to confirm that they repaid my deposit- I received it one month after the insurance paid them. I have to agree with Gita on the parking. It's unfortunate that you have to pay $1 an hour for parking in order to visit a doctor (and the garage only accepts cash). I asked for the reception to validate my parking and she told me it was not necessary because the parking cost was low- regardless of the fee it would have been a nice courtesy for them to assume the cost. read more

I went there for the second time the other day. The staff is very nice. And the doctors are very professional. (Good bedside manner is very important to me.) I was a little annoyed that I ended up waiting about 45 minutes and the people that came in after me were seen before me. I am always wary about that sort of thing because I saw a report a few years ago about how some dermatologists are faster about making appointments for people seeking some sort of cosmetic procedure as opposed to a medical condition (like a mole). I cannot really speculate about the situation when I was there. But if you want to make an appointment, try to do it a few weeks in advance. The things I don't like: -The walls are paper thin, and I could hear everything the doctor was saying in the room next to me. So I can only assume the person in the next room could hear my diagnosis. -You have to pay for parking in the garage. It's only $1/hr, but if I didn't have the huge wait time I wouldn't have to pay for that additional hour. Call me cheap, but I don't think you should have to pay for parking when you're going for some sort of medical appointment. I am beyond happy to have found Anita at Barba Dermatology. I have been coming to her for about a year now, and my skin has transformed drastically and it's all thanks to Anita's expertise, work ethic, and her encouraging words kindly demanding to keep to my routine! She's does not hesitate to get hands on if she sees something that can be removed on the spot. At times, I have come to her with all sorts of questions and with no rush she addressed each one of my skincare concerns. Anita will not push to sell you products that she knows you do not need and she will strongly voice her knowledge on products she swears by, even offering a sample for you to try out. Anita's own skin appearance should be reflection enough of her dedication to skin care. The wait time at Barba Dermatology has always been pleasant, appointments required. Each visit is automatically a copay of $30, but for great service it is totally worth it... For years I was hopeless that my skin would clear up and that my break outs will lessen. I was guilty of researching and trying out every skin care product that was raved about, spending an ample amount of money. Coming to Anita was a great investment. It was a great feeling after a month of starting on Anita's recommended regimen, I had started getting compliments on my skin and my loved ones were noticing that my acne/blemishes were clearing out but most importantly I was noticing. Front desk people need to be way more welcoming and appreciative of the business they're working in. I'm from NY so I have limited patience for people who work in serious fields and do not take them serious. There are a million med students who would value the chance to work at a dermatology clinic to gain an actual skill set. This is not a nail salon. Last time we came we waited 2 hours and listened to the young unprofessional girls behind the counter booking hair appointments and talking about Instagram posts vs focusing on their job. I get it you're just a front desk person. However, when we are paying hundreds of dollars out of pocket for a treatment the last thing we want to receive is attitude because we are interrupting an unprofessional conversation that is irrelevant to Dermatology in the first place. Today I called to explain that my fiancée would be running behind and see if we could push the appt back a few mins. She proclaimed they didn't have another appt for 2 weeks when I had already explained yesterday, the situation was a severe skin flare up. Also if we're self pay and we're running 15 minutes behind for an early morning appt due to work, the girl answering the phone shouldn't give so much attitude when we're just going to sit there waayyyyy over 15 mins waiting for them to accommodate us anyway. Like let's be real here, if your appt is at 10am your definitely not seeing the doctor at 10am. Anyway, I just feel the people you have answering your phone and being the face of your business need to represent it well or else they're just ruining the guest experience. It's sad because the doctor we see there is really nice but at this point my fiancée doesn't even want to go back. read more

So, I see a bunch of different reviews about this dermatology office and some of the negative reviews have a point -- I really wouldn't come here for dermatological issues if there's a chance your insurance won't cover it. I just wouldn't and some of their billing practices are strange BUT I've had mostly very positive experiences at this office, most specifically, they've resolved my issues, which is the most any patient could ask for from a doctor. They do a great job at getting you the results you want, which in my mind is money well spent. I've waited here for extended amounts of time a few times, sometimes the desk staff gets a little jumbled and sometimes I've waited a while for certain products I need and have had appointments scheduled incorrectly, but I've been coming here weekly or semi-weekly since March for electrolysis and facials (which are both procedures not covered by my insurance, I pay out of pocket, but are both reasonably priced and done extremely well by the best esthetician in the world, Janet) and I've only experienced administration hiccups and long waits maybe 2 or 3 times and when I do, everyone is pretty apologetic and accommodating. And yes, they will try to sell you every product under the sun but a lot of dermatologists do that because most people come to dermatologists for shallow, cosmetic purposes. Not all (I have eczema, so, I'm aware that sometimes you need to see a dermatologist for actual skin issues) but most do, so, can you blame them for trying to capitalize on vanity? I don't. We do live in America, people. And most people don't have debilitating skin issues, so, they've got to make money somewhere. If you don't want to be pushed into buying something or getting some procedure you don't think you need, then just say "no". How hard is that? I'm not sure about the parking situation being that I work two buildings down and usually walk to this office during my lunch break, but I'd think if you really didn't want to pay for the garage you could get away with parking at the neighboring CVS or Publix both so ghetto (the CVS actually locks up their Dove soap and deodorant, so that says something right there), I don't think anyone would actually notice. Most importantly, if you have a problem, they will solve it. It may cost you a little but beauty is pain....and sometimes its painful to your pocket book. You just have to figure out if the cost is worth it to you. Good service doesn't come cheap and if it did, Groupon facials would actually be worth purchasing. read more

I have mild acne with a pesky cystic one from time to time. I went in to get a facial from Janet and though she was very friendly she was rough when it came to extractions. I regularly see a dermatologist back in Los Angeles, where I'm from, where I also get regular facials from their aesthetician. I have NEVER looked the way I did after Janet was done with me. I had a horrible cystic pimple on my cheek that was so painful and she proceeded to attack the hell out of it. Her nurse did give it a cortisone shot which helped but a few days later it started to flare up again, with 2 others. So almost 2 weeks after my facial with Janet my face looks worse than it did before I went in. Finally I did what i should of done to begin with which is go to a real expert and saw Dr. Brian Katz in South Beach, my face is now on its way to recovery :) read more

Dr. Barba has been my doctor for over 8 years. I initially chose Dr. Barba because of her exceptional educational background and experience; and, after many visits for many years, I have had nothing but perfect, professional experiences. In practice now for many years, she is quite well known in Miami and I have heard the same from many people (when we've found out by chance we share the same doctor). In fact, I have been so pleased with Dr. Barba that I often recommend her to friends. Dr. Barba is always positive and receptive, careful to listen to any medical concerns and very focused to treat her patients in the best possible way. Her staff is also outstanding and I appreciate seeing the same smiling faces and to always be treated with the utmost courtesy and care - in Miami this can be the exception so I appreciate their very friendly but professional demeanor. In one specific case when I needed to have an emergency appointment, her office immediately accommodated me and for that I was very grateful. On average, I have never had to wait longer there than in any other doctors office (would say the wait is actually shorter than most). A wait at the doctors office does not bother me but actually puts me at ease understanding that a doctor may have to spend extra time with some patients that cannot be pre-factored into scheduling. I appreciate this in that skin cancer is such a terrible risk, especially in South Florida, and in these cases I know Dr. Barba is extremely vigilant to address any such concerns. Further, if I have ever seen a patient called before me I have always assumed that they are laser, electrolysis or general skincare patients who have set appointments, often seen by the esthetician not Dr. Barba. In sum, this is a doctor I highly recommend. In addition the office is beautiful while maintaining the clean, sterile atmosphere expected. The location could not be any more convenient from any area of Miami - great for me b/c my work takes me all over the immediate area so that I can always easily manage appointments. I do not mind paying a minimal fee for parking and I usually park behind the building in the metered area. Parking is actually pretty easy for Miami. For any person with medical or cosmetic concerns, Dr. Barba is the best option in our area in my opinion. read more

I went here b/c skin cancer runs in my family, my grandmother died of melanoma. I'm sure this DR is good for injections and botox but for skin cancer screening DO NOT GO HER. First she was short and rude. Her skin cancer exam was such a joke that as soon as I left the office I was making another app for another exam. As she was leaving the room after an extremely fast and not thorough skin exam I aked her to look at my eye lid bc I had a wierd bump. Turns out it was BASAL CELL CARCINOMA. If I didnt ask her to look at it it would have never been diagnosed. She is rude and unprofessional. After the exam the staff bombarded me with overpriced products and hats (wtf) to buy. It seemed like the office was much more interested in selling me things then actually giving me what could someday be a life saving skin cancer exam. Please make sure that they take your insurance. I used to be their patient and I changed insurance. When I called to make an appointment for my husband I was very clear saying that we changed insurance. I gave them the insurance ID with ALL the information and they "checked" and it was covered. Well my husband went today for his appointment... he is a very busy man, and he got there before time.... and they told him that they do not work with that insurance that it was a mistake... excuse me ?????? Why on earth did they not call prior the appointment !???? They just make you go to tell in your face???? Do you just make people waste their time???? COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! In spite of having incredible health insurance that pays 100% of my dermatology check-ups, they wanted me to pay a substantial amount of $$$ up-front (in addition to my insurance) before the doctor even saw me - and I find their EXCUSES to justify this practice totally unethical and unprofessional. It's like they're judging their new patients like criminals before they've even seen the patient (seriously - they wanted me to pay $$$ up-front in case of insurance fraud? WOW). Although I haven't visited, I'm giving this place 2 stars solely based on the fact that, I must say I was very pleased w/ how fast(from the moment of my inquiry) the Doctor replied(even after hours) to advise me that one of his staff members would be in contact w/ me to book an appointment. NO LIE! The next day one of the office members was calling to book me. HOWEVER, I've decided not to attend the appointment due to the fact that they do not accept HMO, only PPO(talk about being boujee status, lol), & have no free consultations!! When I asked the girl who called me, she didn't give me a set price of how much I would have to pay for the visit... ‍She stated it would be "anywhere from $200-$300 just to get evaluated & then whatever procedure I had done, would be extra." Umm sorry, but, I'm not rich, & $300 for a simple consultation that should be free, seems outrageous. I don't care if you're the best in the game. If I don't know that I want to get a procedure done by your office, I shouldn't have to give you $300 of my hard earned money just to have someone 'take a look' at what my problem is... Someone recommended this place to me, I went out on a whim and tried it out and I will never go to another spa! I had an appointment with the dermatologist but what I was most impressed with is the med spa downstairs. Such great service and completely changed my skin for the better. I never suffered from acne but I severely broke out overnight and over the course of the 1-2 months following. It took time but my skin has never looked better, thanks to Selene Chaves. Its a really far drive to me but very worth it. She tells you what you need and don't necessarily need and is very thorough throughout her procedures and genuinely cares about your progress. I have been a patient of Dr. Barba's for 6 years. She is fabulous! She is always on the leaning edge of all new technology and procedures. She is thorough in her exams for skin cancer. She has performed more than 30 biopsies on me and always follows up on the results, which are mostly squamous cell carcinoma or basal cell. In fact, she has surgically removed 2 lesions from my face. The first time I panicked and suggested I go to a plastic surgeon, and she was extremely confident in her work and reassured me this wasn't necessary, as she was competent in knowing I wouldn't scar. I have been to a lot of dermatologists and none compare with Dr. Barba's skill and expertise. Also, I love her PA, Irene. She is terrific and also very knowledgeable in skin care. I was a patient at this office 7 years ago. However, unless you've visited within the last two years you're treated and billed as a new patient. I.e $200 instead of $100 to walk through the door. After completing the required forms on the I-pad I was ushered into room 5 to wait for Dr. Rivas. She was very professional and treated my three finger warts in 10 minutes. On leaving I was stunned to find my bill was $533.85 which seemed high.This included an unwanted but required biopsy on the tissue from a wart and a topical formula. I requested an adjustment to my bill as I had been there previously. No response was forthcoming. read more

I have very sensitive skin and have had a variety of issues. Thus, I have seen many of the most well-known dermatologists in the city. I sincerely consider Dr. Barba among the best. She is extremely through in her examination. I've literarily have had her look at every spot/mark on my entire body. Also, she asks a lot of questions to ensure that nothing escapes her. Furthermore, Dr. Barba is at the vanguard of new medicines and new technologies. A few years ago, I had a highly uncommon dermatitis. Dr. Barba diagnosed it and also sent me another dermatologist because she wanted to be completely certain that the diagnosis was accurate. I have never felt rushed during the consultation. Her PA, Irene is also very good.; I feel confident that I am in good hands. Last but not least, Dr. Barba is very nice and extremely professional (both qualities which are important to me). In terms of some of the other reviews: Dr. Barba does not charge for parking; the building does. This should not impact what you think of her. I've paid for parking at UM Hospital in downtown Miami, so I don't see this as a big deal. On the point regarding deposit/credit card: I can understand how it is uncomfortable to leave your credit card information given all the identity fraud. None of these points are strong enough to keep me from being seen by an outstanding and knowledgeable doctor. I highly and whole-heartedly recommend Dr. Barba. read more

The front desk girl is miserable. The paperwork is extensive and the "leave your cc # on file" just in case your insurance doesn't pay is really over the top and desperate. It doesn't really feel like a professional dermatologist office it feels more like a cosmetic skin care office (a few of the mandatory forms ask all about possible laser procedures anti-aging) I went for a routine check up and not for a cosmetic procedure. The front desk girl is a bit of a miserable troll with lots of attitude sprinkled with a "patients are a necessary evil" demeanor. The rest of the girls in the office are really nothing to write home about. I waited about 25 minutes before being brought into an examination room then told by the nurse that brought me to the back that she would return momentarily (she never returned) I waited in the office for over 30 minutes to have Dr. Barba walk in and give me a once over for about 4 minutes. Dr. Barba then left me with another girl who proceeded to peddle mineral makeup products and anti aging products from a crappy shelf inside the examining room. I mentioned to her about 3x that I was allergic to mineral makeup. The worst part of it was that this hustle troll decided to question the blush and eyeshadow I had on indicating that it was mineral. Ugh! I try not to entertain morons so I just said "no it is not" I was then brought up to the "exit/pay" your bill before you leave and make another appointment desk. Exit girl was all attitude and no charm. Oh, and the nurse that said she would be back was at the front desk too. Interesting thing about this part is that she decided mention to me that she "got caught up with other stuff" and she couldn't make it back to the room that she left me in. I just replied "Yes, I was wondering what happened to you". Ugh! Thankfully, I have excellent skin and get compliments on it ALL the time. Dr barba is probably the rudest doctor I have ever met. she walks in without speaking to me, super in a rush , and then didn't do the procedure I asked..
