They want you to first do a whole sheet on the internet, then scan all your paperwork and wait for them to answer. This One Star review has very little to do with Dr Alvarez's medical abilities-something which it is hard for a patient to judge. This low rating is based on the sharp practices employed by her firm. Thus far, this office has charged me $116 for $100 worth of services. First, they failed to apply a $50 deposit required to make a first appointment just keeping the money instead. Then, they charged me a $66 copay where they should have charged me a $50 copay. So I had paid $50 before I walked in the door and another $66 before I walked out. The office knew that they had the deposit, so I cannot imagine what their excuse for not applying it would be. As regards the co pay, Dr Alvarez alternately claimed that they just assumed that it would be 20% or that they called my insurer who told them it was 20% The doctor's office is still reviewing these matters - if and when I get a refund, I will update this review. But I cannot rely on medical opinions from a party whose integrity I have legitimate doubts about. UPDATE: Following a conference call with LRD and my insurer, I received a refund in the amount of $16 today. read more

Dr Alvarez has so many aspects of her practice together yet she is a bit dismissive and cavalier unless your are forking out quick money for fillers. She tends to "side" with other medical professionals in her referral network and not stand up for her patients. While she demonstrates knowledge and competency and is quick to fein concern before biopsy of visible areas, her concern is questionable as she sidesteps anything of grave concern - like cancer- and is quick to refer out to (or steer to?) other specialists. Her front desk staff is amazing and she has built a good solid practice. It is my hope that she will no longer dismiss patients after a quick , often incorrect, assessment of their situation, standing and means, and that she will offer multiple referrals rather than steer patients to professionals she claims she would visit herself . If is also my hope that if a biopsy comes back with a cancer reading that she take the time herself to call the patient and present all options for treatment and respective referrals. She is a good Dr who merits recognition , but a little humility and empathy could get her a lot farther. read more

For the first time while living in Miami, I needed a dermatologist to address a tiny skin concern. Lincoln Road Dermatology ended up meeting all of my needs: easy booking (online via Zocdoc), readily available appointments (some places I called wanted to make me wait 1-3 weeks), and decent reviews. While the idea of having to go to Lincoln Road for a doctor's appointment seemed stressful, I decided to give it a go. I was able to fill out all my paperwork online beforehand which was a timesaver once I got to the office. Unfortunately, they were running behind about 30 minutes. They assured me that this was not normal and I'm choosing to believe them. Dr. Marcy Alvarez was very kind and efficient. I was in and out in five minutes with everything I needed. She made me feel comfortable and answered my questions. I saw results within a day of her prescribed treatment! The front desk staff was also very welcoming. Overall, it was definitely a pleasant doctor experience compared to some others I've had in the 305. There's street parking and garages near the office but, with the way parking prices are in South Beach this day, you'll pay a pretty penny. Such is Miami life. read more

Dr Alvarez doesn't know much about dermatology. I ended up spending about $1000 and wasting 2 weeks of time, while my skin condition kept on getting worse. They never called me to follow up and tell me that my test results were in. When I did it myself, I was diagnosed incorrectly and started wrong treatment, that obviously did not improve my condition. When 10 days later I insisted on another visit, I was charged $125 as soon as I walked through the door only to find out that my previous test results and diagnosis were wrong, so I have to pay for yet another test. Ridiculous. I left and never came back. My new doctor put me on the right treatment and I'm seeing huge improvement in just 24 hrs. This visit was a complete waste of time and money. First off -- cool location -- 1111 Lincoln! Doc Alvarez is pretty amazing. She runs a super efficient and well staffed team. I've never waited more than a minute or two in the waiting room and Dr. Alvarez spends her time with me -- she doesn't rush you in-and-out, just churning patients. She genuinely cares and when you're dealing with skin issues, that means a lot, since often skin issues make you real sensitive and concerned as a patient. Dr Alvarez is a MIRACLE WORKER. I've had cystic acne for YEARS. I've seen many other dermatologists and they were not able to find a routine that worked for me. I thought after puberty, my skin would clear up. However I'm 24 now - clearly that wasn't the case. Within three months of this routine, my skin is at a place it's never been. I'm comfortable to go outside without makeup - which is so foreign to me. I can be confident at the beach and pool now. Thank you so much, Dr. Alvarez. You've changed my life for the better. I had a horrible experience with Dr. Marcy Alvarez. She came in, was very dismissive, and instead of helping me kept saying "How did that happen to you...it's so weird," basically trying to shame me for the problem I was having. Then, instead of helping me, she took a swab of my skin to send to the lab. Then, she literally just put a bandaid on my skin and sent me on my way. For a bandaid and a swab, I was charged $88. And just now I got another surprise bill for $21.90. Over $100 just for some rude, dismissive, and frankly mean doctor to literally swab my skin, slap a bandaid on, and call it a day. Avoid this doctor at all costs, she doesn't help you, and she only tries to squeeze money out of your visit. I saw her for a grand total of about 5 minutes. She literally doesn't care if she helps you or not, it's just a money squeeze. I thought doctors were supposed to help people, but not this one. I had to go to a proper doctor a week later to actually fix my problem. This was a horrible experience with Dr. Alvarez, avoid going to her. read more

I saw Dr. Alvarez three times over the past few years. This last time, I didn't feel like I received her focused medical attention, nor the time before. She overlooked or didn't comment on something on my back, which greatly bothered my husband. During the visit she informed me she doesn't bill insurance for (some or all) mole removals. She had a cash Price List taped to her wall. I've never paid cash for a mole removal. Cigna and BCBS cover mole removal in all cases. She and I had a little debate over it. I came to my own conclusion for the policy change and the shift in focus. Since that last appointment, I saw a different dermatologist to look at my back again and remove two moles. My insurance covered his fee and the lab fee. read more

These guys (ahem...gals) are spot on. South Beach is awash with lame medical services so when you find those who are not only great BUT also friendly you want to share it with other locals. A bit of unique perspective here as someone with a medical background (17 years of direct patient treatment) as well as 10 years on the medical management/consulting side. Thanks to fellow Yelpers advice, I booked an appointment with Dr Alvarez prior to a recent trip to Miami. The main purpose for my visit was a Botox touch up (hush, stop judging me), but I also wanted her to check out a mole on my neck that a different dermatologist told me I needed removed. The other derm had refused to remove the mini mole for fear of scaring and referred me to plastic surgeon (which seemed a bit aggressive considering its size). However, Dr Alvarez said that she could easily remove the mole with minimal to no scarring. I was beyond freaked out about the procedure but Dr Alvarez calmly talked me through the removal. Six months later, I have no trace of a scar (or an ugly mole) and, of course, religiously now apply SPF 35+ to my entire body. My Botox and the mole removal turned out fab. I love Dr Alvarez and her amazing skills will ensure that I continue to visit her whenever I'm back in the Miami area. read more

Came in to get a biopsy done on my skin. I hate going to the doctor, I especially hate it when I know something is wrong. Dr. Marcie was kind and explained what she was doing and what could be the outcome. The PA that first saw me was kind and knowledgeable as well. The entrance to the office is through the back of the building not off Lincoln road mall. I made an appointment same day and am a cash patient. The price is very reasonable and what I expected. The lab and visit is all lumped into one sum. I waited very short time to be seen after arriving at my appointment, a huge plus as so many doctors do not respect the value of time but only theirs. The office is super clean n modern. Results came back within 2 days so the agonizing wait is minimal. The office explained the results what next is to be done and recommendations. The quoted me prices as well if the office was to do certain procedure themselves which was very reasonable as well. As long as you ask the questions you will be answered and not felt rushed. Definitely would recommend this office for your derm needs and everyone go get a full body check up we do love the beach! read more

My skin has never looked better. The entire team at Lincoln Road Dermatology is outstanding. It feels more like a spa than a doctor's office. It's tastefully decorated and Dr. Alvarez and the staff are so wonderful, easy going and helpful. I've had a few skin issues (body and face) and right away Dr. Alvarez knew what it was and how to fix it. I also had the hydra facial and the next day my skin looked PERFECT. I was somewhat in disbelief, even my roommate said my skin looked the best it ever did and I've known her for 5 years. Overall, they're professional, friendly and just great energy all around. Service: probably the most important part. From the receptionist to Dr. Alvarez, the whole team is great. As a working gal, it's always hard to schedule those derm visits - they are so accommodating and great. Laser: I purchased the laser package for my underarm and bikini area. I am SO happy. Yes, it is significantly more expensive than buying a groupon, but it shows real results. I'm on my fourth session and I am so happy with it. The best part is that it is relatively painless... and if you're in pain, they give you a stress ball and an ice pack to make it all better. Facials: I just got my first hydrofacial. My skin looks great and I am very happy with the results. I also picked up a bottle of Latisse here. The office is really nice and clean. The doctor is helpful, open and honest. I went to see Dr. Marcy in 2015 about a skin growth, she didn't really help much. She sent me somewhere else to get it removed and put a bandaid on it. 5 years later (yesterday) i get a call from a collections company stating that I owe $850.. I called my insurance company and they inform me that that my deductible at the time was $120 so they severely overcharged me and it has been effecting my credit. I called them to see what happened and they said that since it was 5 years ago they need to refer back to their paper files and they will "get back to me eventually". Regardless, I do not know how putting on a bandaid could cost that much and now I am basically screwed. Would definitely NOT recommend this place unless you enjoy getting robbed. read more
