I originally had an appointment to meet with financial aid and take a tour of the school because I…read moream thinking about taking classes. First off, this is the second time they cancelled due to an emergency, with no rescheduled date. But when I arrived ( I also had services booked for that day) the financial aid lady was there, and looks like there were tours happening. Weird. The student who did my nails and the nail instructor were adamant that I would have to stay on financial aids ass in order to get enrolled in classes. I will not be chasing anyone to enroll, I will just take my business elsewhere. So on to my services, I want to start by saying that I completely understand that these are students who are learning and mastering their craft. HOWEVER, if the student is a senior and they are doing subpar (and that's being nice) work at best, they should not be taking on clients. The instructor was no where to be found until it was time to sign off of the students paperwork. The instructor didn't even take the time to look over to students work. The student was nice enough, but I'm not sure being a nail tech is her passion. There is no way that could be proud of the work she did on my nails. The before picture was embarrassing and I couldn't bring myself to post. The pic is after I came home and tried to file and fix my nails a bit. YIKKKKEEES!!

I decided to go for a leg wax today. With this service, you are unfortunately not able to book with a more experienced student like the other services. My student, Tiffany, was very nice but you could tell she was extremely uncomfortable, and not confident in waxing. I should've paid attention to that first red flag. It went downhill quickly from there. She struggled with the wax temp,but anyone could've had that issue. First problem was the wax was not hot enough, so she struggled to spread it on my leg. Then she would place wax on several areas without placing a strip, so the wax hardened. She was getting frazzled and letting me know. On my back thigh she put a large amount of wax and then the strip. Again it sat too long, so when she went to remove it, it was STUCK!! She was in a panic to get it off and kept apologizing to me. I tried to help by showing her what most places do to remove it. It did not work. After a good almost 8-10 minutes she ran out saying she needed her teacher. The instructor came in and tried to calm her down. They then worked together to try and get the strip off. She kept telling Tiffany it was fine and the customer "doesn't care because they know we are a school". Well this customer was worried about what was going on. They finally got the strip off, then the teacher told me I will have a bad bruise but they won't wax that area anymore and opted for tweezers. They asked me if this ever happened before and I quickly said NO.! I've been getting waxed for 30yrs and never had this happen. My waxing of just my thighs took almost 2 HOURS! Normally I'm in/out of wax appointments in 30min. What gets me is that I know at Aveda the instructors check consistently on the students through each process. This DID NOT happen for my appointment. This never should've happened. Tiffany, again very sweet, was not confident at all. It was obvious from the beginning. Her instructor, Kelly, never should have allowed her to do this unsupervised. I figured because I left with wax still stuck on my thighs, and a large bruise in the shape of a wax strip, that they would not charge me. NOPE! Not only was I charged, but when checking out they asked how it was and I told them, there was no apology from the manager. I will not ever go and get a haircut there, and now I'm leery about a mani/pedi. Sadly this was a 1 and done place for me. It's not worth the savings.

I had an appointment for color. cut and pedicure. The color was done first, then the cut and then…read morethe pedicure was last. The student only consulted the instructor to determine what hair color to use. We talked to determine what I wanted and they they went to mix up the color. During the coloring process, the instructor did a "walk by" to ask if everything was ok. Other than that, no interaction for the rest of my appointment. No consult with the instructor before, during or after the cut. The student asked what kind of cut I wanted and I said just a trim 1/2". The student cut only the ends on the bottom of my hair. She started putting heat protectant on and I asked, "are you going to trim my layers?" She started picking up my hair looking for layers. She acted like there weren't any but I have layers!! She cut a little more, didn't touch my bangs. I was frustrated and finally just said it was fine. Common sense says that the pedicure should have been done first to give ample time to dry but it was done last. Pedicure was ruined when my flip flops were put on. She "fixed" it but simply put on more polish over the lumps. My toes look like 12 year old did them. My student indicated that she would be done in 2 weeks and couldn't find a job. She also said she wanted to be dog groomer but her friends talked her into doing cosmetology. She did not seem to have a passion, skill or confidence for the work she was doing. Seemed to me she has not figured out what to do with her life so she was giving this a go. The instructor was not encouraging nor helpful to this young woman as I would expect an instructor to be. I travel alot and going to an unknown salon in an unknown town is usually a crap shoot. I will seek out a cosmetology school to get a cut and a color and have had excellent results usually because there is unwavering instructor interaction. This was not the case at Image Makers. I noticed the other students were also left to do whatever they were doing without instruction, guidance, or encouragement When making an appointment, I normally will ask for a senior student, however next time I will ask for someone who truly wants to be a hairstylist and has a passion for it. I was excited to try Image Makers, as their website indicates their high expectations for students and that I found that refreshing. Instead I left frustrated and disappointed.

Mrs. Dee was my Instructor, and she is adamant about making sure that you learn the Tennessee state laws, health safety, and sanitation. Mr. Lewis and Mrs Grace are in leadership and Admissions to make sure that each student is welcomed and a part of an institution that prepares you for success. If I asked the instructor questions, she took it personally and talked crap about me to the director etc. Most likely she was intimidated and not confident. I'm not trying to have a conversation with you while your angry and hostile. She was so low class and a drunk. She talked about getting drunk every weekend. Anyway, the director resolved it her way which I was unsatisfied with how it was handled. She refused to resolve it in a manner I would be comfortable returning to class which basically was a violation of the schools own policy and procedures, grievance section. Instead she literally told me not to return. I contacted THEC, COE and reported them to my local WIA career counselor. I did not file a formal complaint because I was so upset I chose to move on from the most traumatic experience I've ever had in an educational institution. You will be wasting your time and money with this wretched place.
