Anthony is great! I've been going here for almost a year - they got in in the door with a Gilt City deal, and I found the $40 haircut price tag to be worth every penny. I usually show Anthony a photo of what I want (go ahead - laugh - it's of Justin Timberlake's hair on his 20/20 album cover), and he replicates it exactly. The cut comes with whiskey and water for sipping, and ends with a hot towel experience that is the cherry on top (don't pass it up if you're offered). This is sort of the experience I've always wanted at a barbershop - relaxed, casual, professional, and grown up. Good music, good conversation. It's sort of like the movies. My guy only comes here for his haircuts now. They definitely have a "friendly neighborhood barber" kind of vibe and make you feel at home. They offer you a drink as soon as you walk in, and one of them stepped out to grab something and asked if we wanted anything from the store. That kind of hospitality is always appreciated. They are super meticulous with their haircuts and take extra care to make sure it's perfectly faded to your liking. You can tell that they've been in the business for a long time. I had a great experience with this place about a month ago. My hair was really long. This was the first haircut I paid for in about 4 years. This was the first actual haircut I had in about two. Now my hair is pretty short and I love it. I see there was some other dude that had a bad experience with them in a similar situation but I've got no complaints. After living in this city for 5 years it was about time that I'd find someone that I could trust my hair with, who knows the simplistic sophistication of Italian craftsmen. With a very efficient and professional protocol you can schedule a cut(or shave) and on the clock you will be seated and taken care of. First time I went there, an icy afternoon, I was offered a glass of whiskey to warm my head and bones and the time after an espresso that warmed my heart. Every time I ask for Lello, the Neapolitan Goldfinger, who is always courteous and devoted to his craft. Differently from other barbers, I was able to receive an on-the-spot guide through my hair(texture, kind, dizziness), the cut and consequential care, plus a warm towel to invigorate my nerves. Lello delivered every time I went there, his hand is steady and his technique refined. He told me how fewer cuts could actually deliver the same that others would through pantomimes, only not everyone is aware of this. "Less is more". read more

This place is really something else. It's a mix of old school charm and modern amenities such as being able to book your appt online. I've been here at least three times in the last year and this is my feedback: Lello is amazing. I've had him do my shave at least twice and he's a master at this. My face felt crisp, skin was smooth, and not a single nick. The experience in and of itself is amazing, you get a few minutes out of the day to just be, without cell phones or interruptions. I advise to skip the Moroccan treatment. I did not find that it adds much to the experience, but you should definitely get the shave. Anthony does my hair occasionally and its absolutely wonderful. Treat yourself every once in a while to this place, you will not regret it. Oh, and they greet you with booze upon arrival.... even if it's noon on a weekday. I mean that alone is worth 4 stars. Attention to detail, professional service and that little something extra make Barbiere my favorite spot to get my haircut in New York City. At first glance the place has a lot character, from the large storefront window, to the upbeat music that keeps it lively, to the design elements peppered throughout the space. It feels luxurious and edgy, the always perfect mix of cool without trying to hard. And then there's the haircuts. I've always felt comfortable with any of the stylists working there. They all are fun, and all take their job very seriously. When I'm there I feel like I'm important, that my stylist is focused solely on me and the job at hand, and I always come out feeling refreshed and great about how I look. They offer a whole wide range of grooming options and I typically enjoy a drink and hot towel in addition to an occasional shampooing with scalp massage. I feel I get a tremendous value for my dollar there and that a strong tip is always justified. My recommendation: go there and enjoy. I've been getting my hair cut here for 2 years now. It has a great old world Italian feel and they always play good music. You can sip some bourbon (for free) while you wait for your hair cut. I went to Anthony for a hot shave. He saw that my skin was very sensitive and took extra, extra care. He was very thorough with the shave and made sure I was in great shape at the end (my skin is very sensitive!!) he even recommend3; some great products for me to help combat any inflammation that may happen while shaving. Got a fresh shave and a Moroccan skin treatment. You are greeted with a nice cup of whiskey so that's always a good start. I had Lello as my barber, and he was very good and attentive. Love this place! I have had 2 cuts with Anthony and he's been great both times. Very nice guy, great personality, and very honest. I give him the freedom and trust to do whatever he feels looks best for me, as my hair is long and I like to give my barber/stylist the creativity to open up their skill, and Anthony was able to both times. I particularly like the small intimate setting and their choice of music as you wait, but was also asked what I like to listen to if I was the only one there. As you walk in, it's only 2 seats for cuts, plus 2-3 waiting chairs. I was taken promptly on time for my appointment on both occasions. You get a complimentary glass of whiskey or whatever beverage you'd like as you wait, they also accommodated my fiancé just as well as she sat and waited as I received my cut, and the warm towel at the end for your face is a nice touch to wrap up your cut. $40 for the cut, service, and experience, are well worth it! read more

Came here because it was mentioned in Time Out NY. This brand spanking new barbershop is awesome. The atmosphere is nice (very spiffy decor with a little bit of a rustic quality, oh I wish I took a picture), they serve you complimentary wine, have 2 very knowledgable and skilled barbers working there, and the music is super eclectic and awesome. Plus, they do a great job. And the price is FANTASTIC. For guys: $20 for all clipper cut $30 for scissors on the top and clippers on the side $40 for all scissors Shampoo included. Oddly enough, my haircut took a solid 80 minutes. So, set aside some time. There's also some space upstairs that they are going to turn into a cafe or a club... they didn't quite know what they were going to do with it yet, but you should mention it to them when you go. read more
