My 10 year old daughter graduated from this school. Every time she would come home from class she always came back in such a positive mood. I loved the staff they were always so pleasant and nice to talk too. The only reason why I gave a 4 star review is because I expected for graduation to be more we'll coordinate. We as parents pay a lot of money for our kids to try to get sponsored. First off I was very skeptical of this place. I brought my son here in part that he lacked confidence, he was socially awkward, and was not really involved in any othe extracurricular activity. Now I can tell you that my son very much involved as far as being socially acceptable by his peers, he is involved in acting, and possibly going to be apart of some commercials coming up. I went to go "audition" for Barbizon. The staff seemed nice, the other girls auditioning were nice as well. I actually had a fun time auditioning. When we first got there we were told that only one girl would be chosen to be on Barbizon's contract.... not true. I found that every single girl was offered a spot for the modeling school. I entered the room with my director Marina who was very nice and shared some of the same interests as me, we had a strong connection that I'll never forget. But as soon as we got to the financial part she asked for $500, I had it, and I gave it to her. Seconds after my card left the room $500 was gone just like that. I left the building but something didn't feel right. I went home and did my research and I realized that Barbizon only cares about the money. They will lie to you, and take all of your money. They tell you that you only have 10 days to cancel. I came back that same day to cancel with my dad because we really could not afford to pay $2900. Marina was really helpful and she was fighting for me but my family really couldn't afford this school at the moment. She gave us a scholarship but we really couldn't afford that either. She brought in the manager who had a terrible attitude. She was rude and very careless. And her words almost brought be to tears. She said "You can't afford to go here right? And we offered you the scholarship and you still can't do that, so if we give you the refund you can't come back here." They also left the room, came back, and told me that my refund was on the way. Little did I know, they aren't even allowed to give refunds. Barbizon's main office has to do that but they never told me that. I den my contract to their main office by fax last week and I'm STILL waiting for my $500 refund. They are very unprofessional when it come to money. Barbizon is basically a scam because they only offer 10 classes for $2900 that you can learn on your own. Then they don't mention the last part of the tuition where they ask for $7000 just to go to LA and meet with agencies who tell you that you need to move to LA to get signed by them. Very pathetThis proves that they don't care about anything but the money, so stay away from Barbizon if you have financial issues because they'll try to play you and take your money. UPDATE: My refund was promised on a certain date. I did not receive my refund on that date so the date got pushed up and my refund came faster than the date promised the SECOND time because Marina pushed the issue and got my money back. If it wasn't for Marina I probably wouldn't have gotten my money in a timely manner. If everyone was like Marina, Barbizon would be a better place. And it was no assumption that every girl got accepted. Other reviews will say the same thing because it's true. read more

I love this school! My daughter is 7 and we got her into it to build her confidence and it worked. She is great at projecting her voice and she loves everyone there. Yes, it is a lot of mot st to spend, but they make you no grandiose promises. They make it very clear that if you get work after graduation it is through your own hard work and perseverance. Joy is amazingly nice and all the teachers and office staff treat you like a human being not another paycheck. Sometimes you get mixed info but that is because the classes have multiple teachers and different age levels. All you have to do is check with the ladies in the office and they clear it right up. Wow! Not sure where to start! Stay away! Don't think long, hard, or twice, this place is a hot mess. They seem professional until they take your $$. From the time we arrived I felt sick to my stomach about the $$ I lost. The ppl are either really young or really old and out of touch. No one gives you the correct information and nothing is organized. They keep the kids 3hrs just to have them read off a sheet at the end. I swear I haven't seen any improvements since my child started. Oh I forgot the bag and the pen they give the girls smh. They don't even offer water for the 3hrs they are there. Graduation is a waste as well! Less then 1 wk out and they decide to give you ALL the requirements and want to charge you $10 person to attend, never mind it's at the same place they've been practicing... Joy Ingles is one of the rudest I have come across, who would say anything in front of your child to embarrass you in order to get money. Times must be hard for that line of work. I wouldn't do business with those who try to use that trick of "you don't want to support your child" being that most people want to see their kids happy and go to the end of the Earth for them. Maybe it wasn't Joy's day I'm assuming. But the tactics she used is ridiculous. I seen right through her. So beware of those kinds of people,especially if they slick. Everyone makes it! We were approached by a lady at the Arden mall and were invited to an "audition" for our daughter. After sitting through the audition, we were grouped with a few other families and assigned to a director, Joy. Two things seemed like big red flags: she mentioned that she is the #1 director in all of America (very hard to believe without any proof) and also mentioned how much money the kids are going to make if they get picked for an advert/role. She mentioned that she is very selective, but it felt like anyone willing to pay the fees will get in. In the end, we felt like the audition has done nothing for us besides wasting a few hours. read more

My daughter and I were asked to attend an "audition" with a "real Hollywood director" after being scouted at a local movie theater. It turns out Barbizon calls all of their sales representatives 'directors'. The women we were assigned to, Melissa, said she had worked on the set of Dancing with the Stars, and after our experience at Barbizon, I did a quick search on IMDb only to find that this women was filed under "miscellaneous crew" as a transcriber for the show. Following this logic, a Hollywood janitor could be hired on with the Barbizon sales department and labeled a 'director' as well. And about this "audition"? It was a sales pitch, not an audition. If you thought car salesmen were bad, Barbizon sales reps will take advantage of your child's high hopes and crush their dreams to get you to pay them. Here's the gist of the scam: For the low, low price of $2,895.00, your child would be enrolled in 10 training sessions, an hour and 15 minutes long, every other Sunday. But wait, there's more: your child will receive a free Barbizon book bag and a pen. This offer is valid today only, so if you leave the room, you lose out on this amazing chance. This offer is given after you and your child watch a 20 minute video about success stories from other Barbizon branches and your daughter is fawned over and paraded on a runway for about 45 minutes. After the video and the runway, you are taken into a small room with a sales representative. When I had to make a call, the sales representative stayed in the room while I did it. The second I told her I needed more time to think about it since it was so expensive, the women flipped out. She went from being sweet and optimistic about my daughter's potential acting and modeling future, to a completely vile hag in seconds. The transformation was amazing-- and I have to admit, her acting was pretty on-point for being a lowly transcriber. Did Barbizon teach her that, or was she just naturally evil? She leaned down, looked at my daughter in the eye and said to her, "Oh honey, I don't think you're going to be able to do this. You just don't have what it takes." I walked out with my crying daughter in tow. I spent more than an hour afterwards doing damage control and soothing my daughter after that hellish nightmare. If you feel like your child needs a figurative slap in the face and a traumatizing experience, by all means, go to Barbizon. They are the experts at crushing young girl's dreams. I seriously hope this place gets shut down ASAP. read more

This place is great even tho I didn't attend I Tried out and everyone says this place is a scam honestly it's not. If your kid doesn't extracurricular activities then you ought to know that there is a tuition.just like every other sport. If you want to attend schooling at here you or your kid have to want to do this it has to be there passion. It has to be something they want to be and enjoy. All the staff there is really nice and fun. The only reason this place didn't get a 5 star rating is the price range was way over the top but like I said I do other extracurricular activities and they cost just about the same so if you or your kid really want to become a model, actress, singer, dancer, ect then this is the place to go. The girls working there are super nice and friendly.. and that's the point. They act like your friends and like they want to help you but it's completely an act. One girl even promised to get us ALL signed to an agency... at the end of only 6 weeks??? They took my headshots in their terrible location by Arden Mall (the only good thing is the bakery across from them) which I also never got to see after I canceled, regardless of the fact one of the girls (forget the name) said because she "wanted to help me and really saw my potential" she would email me my headshots anyways and to "keep it low." Of course after I left that day I never saw any photos. Instead of just saying 'no, sorry it's our policy, we can't give the photos after you cancel' she manipulated me and lied to me, once again acting like my friend. These women- especially Joy who honestly only cares about you until you sign that $2500 contract (which you don't have time to think about: huge red flag) are scammers. Also, because I'm 18 I got the "adult discount." Yup. That $2500 is discounted from what, say, a 10 year old & their family is supposed to pay. I went to two classes (they put me in acting & modeling, and I only ever did the modeling class even though it was supposed to be switched every other class & I told them what I really wanted to do was acting and singing- they ignored that.) For three hours each class we walked and walked on this hollow wooden 3 yard "runway." I think there was maybe two 'students' tall enough to be actual runway models- but Barbizon doesn't help you become a high fashion runway model. You become a Barbizon model "FOR LIFE!" And they really pride in saying that "for life" thing (if you do graduate from the classes you can go back and take more anytime for free). The modeling Barbizon does is for small, local fashion shows like Sac Fashion week which "only uses Barbizon models" as I was told. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO START A SERIOUS MODELING CAREER!!! If you have the money to do this, it will be your $2500 hobby. I was with a girl about 10 in the interview with Joy & Joy kept saying to her "oh you could do ____ and modeling/acting too!" Nothing was said of how this would start her career. In fact she actually seemed to avoid that. My modeling instructor told us she was working THREE other jobs, along with Barbizon. Everyone working at Barbizon is a graduate, and no one is a professional. Everything they "teach" you at Barbizon I have literally found online, or I have found BETTER acting/modeling programs in the Sac area like Studio 24 who are reasonably priced and actually schools that will get you places. You will have a better chance taking simple headshots with your phone and submitting them to an agency yourself or auditioning by yourself (which you still have to do even with Barbizon- they do not send out your headshots for you) than spending $2500+ and being a "Barbizon Model" when it comes to actually starting a career. If this still doesn't convince you to save your money and do something better with your time; do your own research on their "successes" and you'll learn as I did that it's all a lie. read more

Waste of money. I was in the adult class hoping it was going to be professional and it ended up being a mistake to try. The classes were the same thing almost every week because they would get "new students" so we would sit and talk half the time just getting to know each other. I will say I learned model stances, walks and a monologue. That was about it. The way we communicated was through a Snapchat group message... which was very unprofessional.. never emailed us about things or events. And when I would miss out they acted like it was my fault because I never received any information about an event. The graduation was supposed to have agents and photographers. There was only two agents and they left rudely without even saying thank you to us for our hard work. The teachers were paying attention to their boyfriends that came to the graduation more than their students lol. Don't recommend what so ever. Only good thing is you can go to classes even when you're graduated, but what's the point honestly. read more

So my daughters like others on here were also "scouted" at Arden Fair mall as I watched so were many other girls. We live and hour away so I didn't want to come back the next day so I was told go at 6:00 pm. We did to be told come back tomorrow and make sure both parents are here to make a decision because we will be choosing tomorrow. Well I did my research before I went and saw all these negative reviews, and I will tell you the negative ones were right on the money. I still went because I thought It would be a learning experience for my girls and I wanted to "see for myself". They say they don't pick everyone in the one hour class they provided (which my girls said they could of learned online) but honestly they do. This one boy decided he didn't want to get up and do it, and they still offered his parents to have him join their agency for of course a small fee of almost 3,000 for 10 classes. When I told JOY also mentention in previous comments that I did my research already and read reviews on here, her face was not a happy look for sure. Of course we were offered a discount (scholarship they call it) of $400 per kid. When we declined to sign our daughters up, Joy said "well I spoke with my manager and she approved a scholarship, but since you don't want to do it forget it". My ex husband and I said OK and gladly walked out. If you don't believe me go see for yourself is all I can say, but keep in mind places like Sacramento Preforming Arts offers, singing, acting and dancing lessons two hours a week for $160.00 a month. Barbizon offers 3 hour classes every other two weeks for 10 weeks for $2900.. A few other families came up to use outside to ask if we signed up and we told them we hadn't, and neither have they. My suggestion, do your research, and do your research on modeling agencies and what you should know. Also notice this agency is in a business unit, not some huge modeling place, when everything is temporarily set up, from the speakers, to the pictures of the "people they made famous" to the directors office.
