I recently went to Barb"s Kitchen Centre to purchase more spices and found they are offering their classes again! The format has changed and I loved it. I took the Advanced Bread Making class and it was great! We are split into teams and everyone makes a different style of loaf (or whatever it is that you are learning that day). You can walk around and see what everyone is doing and Celeste, the owner, is guiding you. At the end everyone shares in a family style meal with usually something additional that Celeste made. No clean up just good chats and good food. Take the recipes home and try them out. And if you're considering buying a big ticket item this is a great way to try out some of the machines cause we used so many of them so what a great way to try before you buy! The classes are in the evening so there is no worry if other people bugging staff. Be prepared to stay a little late since we are learning and then enjoying a meal. Totally worth it. read more

This was my first time at the store as I needed to find citric acid and when I searched it on Yelp I found people mentioned Barb's Kitchen Centre as a place to check for it. So I walked in and this store is amazing! First the staff were very friendly, everything was very clean and sanitized was provided at the front. There were lots of pots and pans and utensils. All sorts of cooking gadgets, storage gadgets, and baking pans. In the back of the store there is a pantry section, this is where I found the citric acid I needed. They have tons of spices and baking ingredients plus more in the pantry. I found the prices on these items quite reasonable considering this is a smaller local business that is family owned. The aisles were large as well! I highly recommend you check this place out if you're looking for any specialty items or neat gadgets or the next time you want to bake something! Barb's always has everything we need and more! When the stores were out of molasses and tapioca, Barb's has it. When we need a new thermometer, we come to Barb's. A better pepper grinder, Bundt cake pan, flatbread rolling pin, measuring glass for making 8 cocktails at once, vanilla with bourbon.... we are always surprised and pleased. I got a set of henkel cutlery here for half price at Christmas time. I am so in love with it. I think the prices here are pretty decent for the quality of the products. They also have a little backroom where they sell food products. I heard a rumor that they also do cooking classes? Definitely the place to go for the chef in your family. read more

Wow, I am very impressed with this place, and can't believe I've never been here before! I always knew about it, but just never ventured over here. There are so many unique gadgets here I didn't even know existed... a garlic peeler?? A berry picker? While I didn't pick either of these up, I'll likely be back for them! They also have adorable aprons with matching ones for kids. The customer service was what you expect from a local business that's been around for decades. I started browsing through the store, and was approached by one of the ladies that work there. I told her what I was looking for (a tortilla press), and she brought me right over to them and indicated they had two different versions, and pointed out the one that is more popular. They also have a selection of little taco stands as well. I was really impressed with the friendliness of the staff. Other items they have are a good selection of Le Crueset cookware and accessories, as well as high end knives. And as I said, lots and lots of neat gadgets! Well ( bleep ) !! How come I never heard of this place until the other day. I was looking for some bakeware and a friend of mine recommended Bosch.. aka Barb's Kitchen Center. So today I went to see what they got ( albeit that it's the middle of the night for me... damn night shifts ). My first thought was where's the door.. it's a bit off the left . When I walked in , it looked cluttered.. not very appealing to the eye. The store has been in operation for over 30 years.. time for a bit of a renovation. .. it has no eye appeal at all. But when it comes to products, they definitely have plenty of it. I looked around a bit for what I needed and maybe a few other things. I found what I was looking for a good price but there were other items there that were a bit pricey. They have a fantastic knife section - very expensive but the quality was worth it. No I dont need any more knives. They have a food section as well ( psst.. they have yeast ! ) . Its a pretty good store like I said but it definitely needs a makeover. The sign outside is perfect ( bright yellow so you cant miss it ).. but the inside definitely needs a makeover.. it's not pretty. As for the name.. I dont get it. It's Bosch.. it's Barb's Kitchen . Will I come back? Yes for sure.. like I said.. they have a good selection of products. read more

I was at Bosch this afternoon, and I realized that I forgot to mention something in my original review - the staff here are freakin' amazing. I wandered in looking for a specific item (which turned out to cost more than I was willing to spend), and ended up finding something else that I didn't need, or even know that I wanted until I saw it. A four inch springform pan. I know, right? Very friggin' cool. Anyhow, there were only two of the pans on the display floor, and I figured, "Hey, if I'm going to make small cakes, more is better, yeah?". At that moment, one of the staff happened to walk by and asked if I needed help. I told her that I would probably be happier if they had a couple more of those pans to sell me, and BAM!!!!!!!! Three little old ladies leapt into action in order to find springform pans for me. (Ok, to ensure that they don't hunt me down and pull my intestines out through my navel, they weren't really old. I was just going for dramatic effect.) So, to summarize, the level of customer service in this store is outstanding. Check them out. YOU won't regret it, but your bank account might. read more

I don't get out to Bosch very often, but when I do I always come home with new treasures & the item I couldn't find anywhere else. The is is THE kitchen place for the home chef. Every tool you've ever heard of and a few you haven't. Plus dry goods you haven't been able to track down. I needed dried sour cherries for a new recipe and found them at Bosch. I wanted a butter bell for years and found a selection of choices there too. When I replace my knives I will definately check out their inventory. The dry goods section is inspiring if new tastes excite you. The staff is friendly and excited about sharing ideas without being pushy. They are happy to let you explore as long as you want and quick to help when you have questions. read more

I came into Barb's Kitchen Centre for the first time this afternoon; this was my first and probably last visit. I walked in and the staff at the counter/registers just stare at me..no hello, nothing, but staring. So I say "hello", the woman say's "hi" and continues to stare..I was feeling pretty awkward at this point, so I say "I'm just looking"...again nothing but staring. So I start looking around and they actually have a pretty large selection of cooking and baking supplies; the products are very heavily marked up and way over priced in many cases. What really annoyed me was that one of the staff stood 3 feet behind me as I was browsing through the different cutters and food colours. It was like she was watching over my shoulder because she thought I was going to shop lift..very, very uncomfortable and unprofessional. I did end up getting an impression mat and 2 gel colours (which I knew were cheaper elsewhere in Edmonton, but I didn't feel like driving over there at that point); I probably would have gone back around and picked up a few more things, but once I realized they were hovering over me because they thought I was a thief I just got out of there. I buy a lot of baking supplies; but after this experience I will just stick to the other stores in Edmonton or online. read more

I'm a fan... but only when there's money burning a hole in my pocket and I can't find what I'm looking for elsewhere. Items here are often two to four times more expensive than elsewhere (c.f. Bagel Guillotine - $45 at Barb's, $39 at Williams Sonoma, $27 at Bed Bath & Beyond, and $15 at Canadian Tire -- all for the *exact* same item). That said, they have some very high end items (e.g. Bosch, Le Creuset, Henckels, etc.) and some niche products (can you say home grain mill?) all of which are nice to splurge on sometimes! read more

The lady at the front counter was extremely friendly and when I asked how busy they had been given the COVID19 situation, she said "very." I find it disappointing that a business that is fortunate enough to be thriving in a time where so many are struggling to make ends meet thinks it's okay to charge $31 for a 20 kg bag of all purpose flour. This store has everything you could ever want or need for your kitchen. (even if you didn't know the item existed until you walked in the store) I was looking for an odd shaped pan and called Bosch to see if they had it. They didn't carry it but they happily ordered the pans for me. Plus there's always enough staff in the store to help you find what need. read more

Yes, it is true for some items prices may be higher at Barb's Kitchen Centre (for those that bargain shop), however for those of us who look for the extra-ordinary it is the best place. Was a regular, for years, at the store while living in Edmonton and now residing in Grande Prairie I make a point of stopping by while "shopping" in Edmonton or have items shipped up here. Regardless, I recommend it to anyone up here to stop by there whether they purchase something or not - she has items that cannot be found elsewhere, and that matters to me. read more

I'm mixed about this store. On one hand they have the most amazing selection of kitchen gadgets, cooking ware, everything you'd ever need. On the other hand every time I've been in the store I feel uncomfortable, it almost feels like you're intruding. The staff are not the friendliest and on one occasion have been argumentative. I was a little confused when we pulled up and the signage said "Barb's Kitchen Centre" instead, but delightfully surprised when we found our way inside. This little store has apparently been open for nearly 30 years and offers everything from spoons and gadgets to high end knives and pots and pans (Henckles and Le Creuset). In addition to small appliances (bread machines, and deep fryers), they not only have specialty cake pans, but the ingredients to bake/cook something with them! We were greeted with a friendly smile and had incredibly helpful service during our visit. (The music was classy too, and as long as it didn't get too busy, one could literally spend hours taking everything in.) Edith handed me a flier with the upcoming cooking classes - which are held in a kitchen at the rear of the building - and excitedly pointed out a few of her favourites. Unfortunately, with the exception of a few, all are held on Thursday evenings, when I have a prior commitment. While we didn't go in with a purchase in mind, we picked up a few things, and will certainly be back when we need something more! Great store :) read more

I love this store! I love my Bosch, and my flour mill, and the great ingredients available here. It keeps learning in the kitchen FUn! They carry good quality kitchen everything. They are personable and the service department has been great for me too. The staff is quite knowledgable and the classes are fun, tasty and informative.... I love this store. They sell pretty much everything someone needs to cook, bake, can, preserve or create in the kitchen, and their baking supplies are super-fresh. Some are pricier than what you'll find in the grocery store, but it's worth it for the quality. And some (cocoa powder, pumpkin seeds) are not only less expensive, they're nicer, too. (Based on my research, Barb has the best price in town on pumpkin seeds.) One of the best things about Barb's: if the staff doesn't have what you need, they'll do what they can to bring it in. I, too, have found utensils and small appliances cheaper elsewhere, but at Barb's, you're paying for the service. These folks know what they're talking about and they can help you find what you need. And if something goes wrong, they've got your back. Case-in-point: I bought a fancy toaster/egg McMuffin maker for my niece, and nearly a year later it started to fail. I'd long since discarded my receipt and my niece no longer had the gift receipt. I called Barb and explained the situation. Turns out the store keeps a record book, so they had a record of when I'd bought the toaster. I brought in the toaster and Barb replaced the defective part, free of charge. I can't imagine that happening at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, or London Drugs, or Canadian Tire, or any of the other places that sell some of the things you can buy at Barb's. read more

I love this store. Barb is a real character and all the staff are friendly and very anxious to help you. They have the freshest gumballs in town, a great spice selection and just about any kitchen gadget, pot, pan or peeler that you could ever want. I've been to a few of her classes and they are very well run. You get a lot of wonderful recipes and tips. When I took the bread class I knew I had to buy the Bosch Universal plus machine and I haven't bought bread in about 3 years now. I would recommend this store to anyone who cooks. read more

Barb hosted a cooking class for myself and eleven friends last week. She taught us chopping techniques, showed us how to make egg based pasta from scratch using a pasta press machine, and gave us some hints that will make cooking more enjoyable (ex. how to prevent from crying when chopping onions). Great, hands on fun at an affordable price. Highly recommended. read more

I took a cooking class here. When I walked in the woman (an older lady) at the front just stared at me. No hello, no smile. The lady who prepared the food was great. But I found Barb (the owner) very rude to her staff and very abrupt with those of us who were there for the class. They use the items they sell in the shop for the cooking demonstration and man oh man do they push you to buy. It's kind of like touch and feel the gadget, smell the spice, buy it. It was ridiculous and really annoying. The food section of the store is well stocked with spices etc, not cheap but spices I've never seen before. I bought a few. As I was waiting to pay for my purchase, there was a lady ahead of me who wanted to register for a class they are offering in August. The woman at the till told her she couldn't register because the sheet wasn't prepared for that night. The lady asked when could she register. The clerk (an older lady) told her when the sheet is ready. The poor woman just looked at her, looked at me and left. Very unprofessional. read more
