Barcadia, as with most places in Dallas, can be hit or miss. Either way, I'm going to have fun. The arcade games, of course, are not the only reason I'd go here. But, it is fun to play Mario Brothers or Donkey Kong after knocking a few back. The drinks are decently priced and the waitstaff is pretty much the best in town. I came here after being told I could play old school games in a bar. Well, that's what I got. They have original arcade machines with years of wear that bring back all the memories of innocent story lines and sub par graphics. That's cool, but I really like my Call of Duty 4. What I was really impressed with was the outstanding selection of craft beers Barcadia offers. Tried out their Pyramid Apricot on draft which had all the great apricoty(yes I made it up) aroma's I was expecting. Their menu was fairly broad for a bar, but the prices seemed on the high end also. Decided to get some wings, sat at one of the elementary school cafeteria tables and watched employee's ignore me for the better of 10 mins, so I just said eff it and went to the patio where pretty much everybody on Henderson was. What I love about Barcadia is their patio, which is partially covered with heavily weather treated wood benches and uncovered tables feet from the bustling street. Under the patio inebriated patrons crowd around homemade Jinga block sets, while guzzling $5 craft beers. Great times! P.S. Go early as in before 11pm, after that you will have to crawl over people, on the patio that is. Also, I strongly recommend valet parking as street parking is nearly impossible to find. read more

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED BARCADIA?!?!? You were my Monday regular!!! You were that awesome low key brunch place with the lox! You were on the top of my list!!! Food was still great for bar grub...but did it really need to take two hours (6 people). That's a little ridiculous... I don't see extravagant roasts coming out of the kitchen. Burgers...fried stuff...really?? TWO HOURS?! You either to come here (now), not hungry or pounding beers to make them stomach pains go away. It must be hard times because I think there is only one waitress for the entire place (and since she's so overworked she's not very happy to see anybody...) *sigh* the service used to be so quick and friendly... I like this place! Barcadia looks very small from outside when you are walking up, but it's actually quite roomy. The patio fits a lot of people even though it doesn't look that big. The website says that they have sunday funday brunch from 11a-3p but I think that it is outdated. Several of my friends have said that Barcadia doesn't have brunch anymore. Such a disappointing thing to hear b/c I had really wanted to try out their brunch. You may want to call and check before going if this was your plan. Went to Barcadia to celebrate my 31st birthday. I had never been here before, but it was a GREAT decision to try out! Some of my friends got to Barcadia early and snagged some good seating outside for us. Some of our other friends lived close enough that they rode their bikes to come meet out with us. The vibe is very chill and the other patrons are friendly and not snooty or hostile at all. This place just opened up - it's next to Cafe San Miguel. It's not the traditional "Dallas" crowd- which is why I was a big fan. There are arcade games that you'll remember from your childhood - all a QUARTER to play! Can't beat that. Skee ball was my favorite. Lots of beers on tap as well - and a decent sized outdoor patio (with the garage door type set-up that let's you really open up the whole bar). It's worth checking out. So, anywhere I can go to: Play "Galaga" 25 cents/credit, Drink Lone Star (with the cap given to me so that I may put my friends to shame as I solve said cap), play the biggest game of "Jenga" you've ever seen, smoke on a heated patio AND throw down on a game of "Uno" with my friends...ALL at the same time?? The website definitely implies a lot more is going on here than it is. Really its a very small bar... the games are just a few stand alone arcade things. Not many. The "giant jenga" is just some basic boards from any home depot and stands less than 2 ft high off the table. The service takes forever. The food isn't great (although they do give you a lot of it). If they ask you how you want ur burger, realize that they're all going to come out exactly the same regardless. They were out of juice when I went there too. It was just a major disappointment. Even the tables inside were more like folding tables than real tables. So not with the trip. Pretty much any bar you go to will be nicer. Unless you just really really want to play pac man, there's no reason to drive even slightly out of your way for this place. read more

Another "I can;t believe I forgot to review this place." I was in Dallas a few months ago on my long road trip from Orlando to Denver. We stopped in Dallas to visit friends along the way. This was the first place they thought to take us. A bar, with arcade games. Ok, so we have that in Orlando, as well as the national Dave and Busters chain....heck naw! This is completely different. This is an adult bar without pretention nor novelty theme. It is a regular adult bar, not divey not too classy, with free arcade games, a giant jenga game, amongst other activities. We met locals, which is an important part of getting into a new town, instead of having the out of towner experience where you are at the most advertised place and surrounded by other out of towners. I heard a lot about Barcadia...I was a video game junkie as a kid, so I was eager to begin to relive my childhood for the night. I went on a Tuesday night, the patio was packed, inside there were a few people, but not many. The atmosphere was cool...they played 80's music, there was a young crowd (probably a little too young for me), there were a few people playing video games, but the highlight for me was giant jenga! The giant jenga sets and the giant connect four were awesome. Good times. Unfortunately Donkey Kong was broken..along with a few other games! I was really looking forward to DK though. :( I only had beer, I didn't get a chance to sample anything on the menu, although I heard the food was pretty decent for bar food. Keep in mind, my friend and I are in our 30's, and we still had a blast socializing and playing a few games. Also keep in mind that I didn't eat anything either. That's the reason for the 2 stars. I ventured to this beloved Henderson hotspot over this abnormally gorgeous January weekend. What a fun Saturday afternoon. Not only did I get to hold a french bulldog puppy (my girliest dream come true), but it was my first experience playing oversized Jenga on their patio. Although most of the Jenga pieces are defamed with naughty words and pictures, it was a great time. The patio was packed with cyclists, dogs and friendly people in general. And there's something about the incredibly loud crashing noise of big, wooden Jenga blocks that seems to bring people together. $2 PBR and outdoor games? A hipster's dream. read more

I'm a huge lover of arcades, so this review will have more about their games than food or drink. I was too busy enjoying Skee-Ball on free-play tuesday to pay attention to anything else. I know I'll be back week after week. When I went, the patio was enclosed for the rain, and it was where most of the crowd was hanging out. Most of the people indoors were at the games. The selection of games is excellent. The highlights for me were Joust, Asteroids, Mario Bros., and of course the Skee-Ball. It's very similar to a bar in NYC called Barcade, but I think their game selection is better. Some of the machines were out of service, but that is to be expected at places like this. I love this place because it's cheaper than Cidercade. All the games are 25 cents to play and they have fun games. They also have table so you can sit down. There's also a patio where you can chill at. The bartender makes good drinks here. I told him to make a good drink and he did. It's was an apple vodka drink with some other type of alcohol. Had a pretty good time here the other night. Good beer selection, fun games (even if they are a little beat up), good atmosphere, excellent prices. I got about four beers and left paying under $20, which in Dallas, I consider fantastic. Giant Jenga was awesome; reading all the nasty shit people write on the blocks is just as fun as playing it. I dug on the music, but I bet they play things that suck on the weekends. I went on a Tuesday, when it was guaranteed to be slower. I'd probably hate the fuck out of this place if it was busier. Joined a few friends here for Sunday brunch yesterday. I had never been to Barcadia and wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised and I know this wont be my last visit. We got there before noon, and as brunch wore on I was glad we had gotten there so early to score a table outside next to the street, because it got packed. Really packed. Carafe's of mimosas are $10 - I'd guess I got about 5 glasses out of mine. $4 Bloody Mary's - they really rocked. I'm usually disappointed when I order them out. We all ordered food and everything my friends got looked delicious. I asked for a BLT (even though it wasn't on the menu) and they had no problem in delivering me an awesome sandwich. Although the patio was filling up with all kinds of activity - multiple people with their dogs - people knocking over their games of over sized Jenga - the service never lacked. My boyfriend and I went on free play/$3 Texas beer night. Other than the Charlie's Angels pinball machine not working, it was awesome! He had the Barcadia burger and he hasn't stopped talking about it. I had a regular cheeseburger and it was definitely one of the better burgers I've had in Dallas. I'm not sure what kind of bread they use, but it's really freaking delicious. The burger itself was juicy and flavorful. The fries were sooooo good, probably because I got them with some queso. YUM. The bartender was friendly and quick and obviously the games were super fun. The patio was fun and although we didn't actually play giant Jenga, it was extremely entertaining to watch people play. After hearing about this place for a few years now, I finally met some friends at Barcadia for drinks and dinner. Overall, I think it's great! I would definitely recommend it as a good place to drink and enjoy yourself. THE GOOD: The bartenders are VERY friendly and helpful! There is plenty of room to spread out, inside or on the patio. The food was good too. We had the Hamburger Nachos, Mini Cheeseburgers and Chicken Tenders. Of the three, the Nachos were the biggest hit. Oh, and we had the Brisket Sliders too. I didn't try them, but my husband said they were very good. Tasty fries came with each plate. The patio was bumpin' and several games of Jenga were going on all night. Generally, the crowd is laid back and a fairly eclectic mix of folks. Happy Hour from 6-8 was a happy surprise and they have a special menu with half price food. Drinks were $1 off. Not bad. The beer selection is pretty good and they have Lakewood Temptress on tap, which is really all a girl could ask for. THE NOT SO GOOD: The thing that is supposed to make this place unique is the arcade games. Many of the games were "Out of Order", including the Skee Ball and my favorite, Galaga. It's not a great selection of video games. It could and should be much better. Parking is pretty much Valet only, which is a big pet-peeve of mine. Now, having said that... it's only $5, which isn't awful but I'd rather spend $5 on a drink and park my own car. You might get lucky and score one of the few parking spots on the street but don't count on it. The music inside the bar is LOUD and carrying on a real conversation is hard to do unless you want to yell the whole time. The patio is much better for talking, so we spent most of our time out there until we got too cold. After warming up for about 20 min, we went back outside because the inside environment just wasn't as good. SIDE NOTE: Next door to Barcadia is The Gin Mill / Urban Pub. I actually used their Valet because the lighting was way better at the drop-off than it was at Barcadia and since I was alone and it was dark, it made me feel safer. Seemed like a good idea but it WAS NOT. When I went to get my car, I had to wait in the The Gin Mill parking lot and suddenly realized that the people coming in and out of The Gin Mill were not exactly our scene. I normally have a great time here but last night after the "manager" Olivia Franklin pulled a weapon on me on the bathroom when one I wasn't using it was not called for. Let's keep in mind I'm waiting for my friend to get out the bathroom and I'm standing by the sink when she comes in and says you guys have to leave or I'm calling the cops. I then tell her ok you can because I'm not using the restroom and I'm not doing anything then she pulls a purple metallic weapon that looks like a knife and says I've already called the cops 3 times when I told her to call them again because you pulled a knife on me for nothing. Now let's give all details as we walk in there is a sign that says Bathroom for paying customers which is fine because my friend and I had already discussed that we go to the bathroom then go to the bar and get a shot then leave. Well because yes we are African American and we did just leave the bar next door there was a assumption that we was not paying customers and was not only threatened with having the cops called on us before we even had a chance to wash our hands but had a weapon pulled on us..... not cool especially when I stay in the neighborhood and didn't do anything... the only thing I can say if this "manager" Olivia Franklin is not fired or punished how she should be I already called my lawyer to handle it legally read more

Our good friend took us there on our recent trip to Dallas saying it is one of his faves in the city. I have to agree. Skeeball? Awesome. Over-sized Jenga game? Hysterical! fun place -- patio is great - dog friendly, so that is a plus - Wife and I brought two recent college grads to Barcadia - we're trying to convince them to move to Dallas, so we gave a taste of everything Dallas. They loved Barcadia! All the beer choices is enough to make your head spin - the food is not your average bar fare. One of our visitors loved the fact that vegetarian choices are on the menu. We ordered the meat and cheese plate and nachos for starters, there were seven of us in our party and there was more than enough food in these two dishes for all of us. The wife ordered wings and they were a hit. Two ordered burgers and both had take home because they were huge. I ordered crunchy beef tacos and they were not close to being taqueria tacos but they were very good. You get three generously stuffed tacos a salad topped with an avocado and rice and beans. The food gets three stars the fourth star is deserved because of giant jenga, giant connect four and the old school video games. Not for non-beer drinkers Every time my friends and I go to Barcadia it's the same thing, great for beer drinkers, but for us more... "elegant" drunks, it sucks! I have yet to get a good drink here. They have all been watered down and weak that I would swear it was just kool-aid. My friends, on the other hand are all hybrids (beer/liquor drinkers) so they are usually happy. Aside from the bad mixed drinks, I like a lot about Barcadia. The food is typically pretty good. Nothing like a round of Giant Jenga with some beered up friends to make for an interesting night. Love the old school arcade games! Barcadia does get extremely busy on the weekend nights, especially when the weather is gorgeous. I love playing skee-ball with my wife when we go. It is a ton of fun! Other games they have, Mario Bros., Street Fighter, and Mortal Combat to name a few. The beer selection is ok, nothing outstanding, but they seem to rotate some of their drafts. Oh, and giant Jenga games are outside on the patio too! I think this is a good spot for a date night, plenty to do and have fun with. We came in late one night last week and there were only a few other people in the bar. It was cold and rainy and this is kind of an outside bar. The doors are always open to the big patio and they do have heaters but it was still a little cool. But the Bartender was super friendly, and fast. I've only been here twice, and haven't tried the food, but this is a solid place and I'll surely go back at some point. They have a really good selection of beers on tap, and they were reasonably priced. Also, the bartender was exceptionally nice! I only had one drink and stuck with water for the next hour (cause I was feeling a bit under the weather), but he was totally cool about it and kept refilling without me having to ask. This is pretty rare -- at most places you don't exist if you're not ordering the next drink. That alone will have me coming back and bringing more friends the next time. The place is open air, but they have a heated patio area, which is quite nice, and the music selection is all good and not so loud that you can't hold a conversation. I absolutely love this place!!!! Tons of hot girls barely wearing anything since it's semi-outdoor and girls place video games after getting drunk, it's the perfect place to pick up girls! Just kidding. Came here to have a drink with two friends who are leaving for LA and loved their stout as well as frites with bacon and cheese. Definitely something you should give it a try. After coming here a couple times in search of a bar with a great patio and Austin feel, I'd have to say this one is a winner. I'm not too in love with the inside of the bar... outside is where it's at! Jenga made our night 100x times funner, especially since I was the one who made it all topple over... whoops. Drinking and video games go to together like JD & Coke. Doing both simultaneously is an instant recipe for success. This is why Kung Fu Saloon is one of my favorite places in Austin. Barcadia is similar in a sense that it combines two of the aforementioned. My go-to game there is Street Fighter 2, unfortunately the left stick has major issues so getting a fair 2 player game isn't possible until its fixed. There are many classic games in the lineup, as well as two Skeeball lanes. I didn't get a chance to try the food there but the drinks aren't overpriced and the bartenders have heavy hands, which is always nice. The patio area is awesome with Jenga XL, TV's and Connect 4 XL. The crowd was all young, mostly college kids that were all laid back and just looking to drink and have a good time. Barcadia is a great place if you are looking for a casual place to get your drink and game on. Massive amounts of alcohol, arcade games, Jenga and Connect 4, all it's missing is Foosball and some pool tables and I may as well be in heaven. Highly recommended. read more
