We had our February birthday celebration at Goodwin's this year and it was a huge success. We are a group of older guys and now only 3 of us are still able to make it. We used to have night out with dinner but now we do lunch. We chose this restaurant based on the D magazine article about the best burgers in dallas. Goodwin's burger was rated one of the best and it lived up to their reputation. We had one burger medium rare and one burger medium well and we had one patty melt, along with salad and fries. They added candles to the birthday cake that we brought in, which was very nice of them! Apps: Cheese Beignets and Zucchini Chips - both were tasty! The beignets were small and not too heavy. I enjoyed the herby sauce on the chips, but wished it was served on the side! I've been wanting to try Goodwin's and finally did and enjoyed our dinner very much! It does get extra packed in there, we had reservations for 8pm on a Saturday and every table was booked and the no seats at the bar! Loved the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant. Because of how crowded it is, it does get super loud in there so it was a little hard to have a conversation hahaha But service was good and the food was great and the drinks were delicious! I've been twice - a weekend lunch and a Thursday dinner. It's nice to have an upscale dining option in the neighborhood. Lunch was a bit more chill but dinner definitely is an event - the place is packed and gets loud. Not overwhelming though. Reservations are a must at night. Parking is tough- the valet often has a waiting line. I have parked a block away on the side streets and it worked fine as long as you double check for no parking signs (ha for a date night I'm gonna use valet). Service has been professional and very efficient and friendly both times. They seem to have good systems in place. Food: I feel it's really solid and I haven't encountered anything I didn't enjoy. On the flip side I wasn't completely blown away either. I really liked everything it's just that it doesn't quite achieve 5 star ratings for me considering price point. Cheese beignets are light and flavorful. Tuna tartare cones are pretty nice. Pork chop and chicken were good entrees. I had a sandwich or maybe a burger at lunch and enjoyed it. Goodwin's seems to be popping all the time so I definitely recommend making reservations! Parking is super tricky in this area if you don't want to pay for valet so make some time to find a spot. Bread and butter were delicious! The pasta had a pretty healthy feel to it but tasted good. Caesar salad was standard so I'd probably try something else instead. This was a really good meal. Started with the frozen cosmo and fried zucchini, both of which were fantastic. The salmon entree was also good. However, the real star of the show was the crunch cake. Coated in chocolate and absolutely delicious! The cosmo and cake were also pretty well priced given the overall prices on the menu. Service was great and the atmosphere is very nice. Had a reservation a few nights ago with a group of friends. Food and drinks were great, and our server was fantastic. But while we were still finishing up -- with a near $300 tab, mind you -- staff started vacuuming around us like they were closing. We love Goodwins. It has become our new go to restaurant on Greenville. Classic American food with a number of unique menu items. They also have a great bar, and it is fun to sit there for a meal. The bartenders are always super friendly. We have always had great service, and the servers know the menu well. The food is reliably hot and expertly prepared. The meals have significant plate appeal. We have tried both the steaks and the seafood. The Seabass is exceptional served on a bed of white beans. The steaks have a good char and are always cooked perfectly. Parking is mostly valet, so be prepared for that. read more

Saturday night and this place was busy - as expected. We arrived around 6:15pm and were seated in less than 20min. We had the wonderful Ellen as our waitress and she was delightful. She had such a joyful demeanor and she made our experience extra great. Started with an old fashioned for him and unsweet iced tea for me as well the focaccia bread, which SURPRISE is dairy free! I absolutely loved the vibe of this restaurant. It has so much charm. I came here for a girls dinner, and we had such a good time. Our service was perfect, and the music was at a great volume for all of us to talk. I got the morningside spritz and loved it! The food is what shocked me. I was surprised by the steaks. We were told Goodwin's was known for their steaks, so I got the filet and my girlfriend got the strip. Both steaks were cooked to perfection, and looked beautiful but lacked seasoning. Both needed salt we were really surprised because they looked so good. We ordered the cheese beignets, mac and cheese, roasted mushrooms and cookie butter cheesecake. I would rate my experience a 7/10. The atmosphere was too loud. The food was mid... there wasn't a lot of flavor in both the main dishes without sauce. The ribs were amazing!! And honestly this place is one of those places that have better appetizers than they do main dishes!! For $140 and no drinks outside of water I wouldn't necessarily recommend for a date night!! I typically never leave reviews when visiting restaurants but I was incredibly impressed by the service and quality of food here. This was my first time visiting and we were seated promptly during lunch hour on a Saturday, immediately greeted by our waiter and given our drinks within 5 minutes probably. We ordered our entrees and didn't wait more than 10 minutes to receive our food. We ordered the patty melt au poivre and the cod sandwich with a side of mac n cheese and it was absolutely delicious. There is good and bad. The food is excellent, I don't think we had one thing we disliked. The vibe is great. Questionable customer service. What I mean by that is the waiter at times seemed annoyed by questions. Some of us had been there before and some had not. Very quick to say no (don't deviate from the menu). Our friends that had been before said the waitstaff had the same attitude the last time. Took forever to get cocktails and they were constantly trying to turn the table very quickly. There were 8 of us and we had a birthday dinner. They wanted every glass, spoon and dirty plate immediately. Didn't have time for us to chit chat and cleared that table at 8:30 pm. I understand they have a business to run but we were rushed. He wanted us to order our dinner at the same time as apps. We were barely there to look at the menu. And don't get me started on the valet. I waited in the line for 25 min just to park my car. The way out was easier, however, I saw an old man leave the restaurant when I was in line waiting. I got inside ordered my drink and he came back inside and yelled at the manager because they had not brought him his car, reminder that was over 25 min. He looked about mid 70's and was shuffling around. They were not low on staff they have a terrible parking situation. Overall EXPERIENCE, I give it a 3. Love the prices of the cocktails and love the variety of appetizers. The inside of the restaurant is very beautiful, moody with brass light fixtures, not too dark. We had a rly friendly server as well (Jared!). Bonus: there is a bar in the back of the restaurant that is perfect for an after dinner drink! To start, we shared the party dip and the tuna cones. Love the presentation of the tuna cones but not practical - hard to get the perfect bite with the avocado at the bottom of the cone. The Nancy's party dip is delicious - it tastes exactly like spicy htipiti! For our main course, we tried the halibut entree, Mac n cheese side, and Bibb stack salad. It was most certainly a good win for us Saturday night. My GOODness, they know how to do it here. Good till the last drop of cheesy beignet- pure bliss, satin silk in your mouth. This is a nice spot. There are 3 very distinct eating areas. There is a dimly lit dining room then you have the bright lively bar area then you have the patio seating. I chose a booth in the bar area. The service was friendly attentive and in sync. My empty plates were promptly removed from table as soon as I finished. I was asked at the appropriate times was I ready for the next course or would I like another course. And they gave great recs. Started with a really nice aperol spritz. Followed by cheese beignets. The coating was thin and crispy. The inside was a really nice creamy cheese served with a side of warm cheese. The tuna cones were a nice surprise. The cheese beignets were literally to die for, we knew they'd taste good but they beat our high expectations. The frozen cosmo was also a great drink. But when our table's server is subpar, I ask myself, "why did I come back". Well ... when the food hits the table, I know why I have been back again and again. The food was good. But I agree they are trying to turn tables way too fast. I ate and sat outside to enjoy the beautiful spring day. My waiter brought my check without me asking for it. I paid then got up to go to the bathroom then my outside table was gone. I intentionally left my phone holster and receipt on the table only to come back to a manager holding it. I told the manager that I was going back to my table which I did. The manager came out and told me a couple of minutes later that he had given my table to a party of 4. I actually felt embarrassed but I did leave. I work in food service myself so I fully understand trying to meet your sales goals. But hospitality should always come first. We were seated 10 minutes after our reservation which was reasonable. We checked in at the front to see if our table was ready instead of waiting for a call which I recommend. I loved the cheese beignets and ribeye. The ribeye temperature was just right. The beignets are gooey cheesy fried goodness! The tuna cones have a tortilla base, and would taste better with a wonton base. The Brussels sprouts were okay, a better side than what came with the steak.
