The service was 5 stars. The server was really nice and my wife and I enjoyed talking to her. I liked the patio seating. It had a cool vibe. This place could be great! But the food was a bit of a let down. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out over cooked. It wasn't burnt or anything but it was closer to well done than medium rare. My wife ordered the grilled octopus. It had a weird consistency throughout. The edges did have some nice charring to it though. I wanted to avoid going to a chain restaurant but you're better off going to one of the chains and skipping this place. read more

After reading the other low star reviews, I'm almost waiting in anticipating for the owner's response. You have to call ahead for reservations, it appears the locals love this place and its easy to understand why, if you're from the area the hostess seems to know everyone on a first name basis and they all get along (staff and patrons) quite well. With our greeting however, not so much. As soon as we arrived, before even stating our name the hostess told us we were late for our reservation, when in fact we were ten minutes early. When we were finally seated, it was next to a giant spider web. We'd asked to switch seats but were told they were fully booked (understood to not switch seats, but a giant spider web should be removed from the seating area). At each table, without asking they place a giant bottle of water (will get back to that later) so we poured 2 glasses for ourselves. Facebook photos showed an expensive surf n turf dish which was served on a black platter, we pointed this out to the waitress and asked if we could be served this dish exactly like the photo (on the platter), was told yes but we received the dish on a white plate. Not that big of a deal if it were say a burger or sandwich, but as this dish alone was over $50 it was a disappointment. My wife and I both enjoy Barcelos. It is pricey but it is superior fare. From the wine selections to the steak on a rock to the seafood platter .. all are excellent. Always a special on to change things up. Our last visit was Ahi tuna. Was great. Surprising find in Wasaga Beach. If not for the large sign on Mosely, one would not likely notice it. A small Portuguese restaurant and Steakhouse. In summer can accommodate many more on large private patio, but inside is warm and cozy. Food was excellent, great quality in good sized portions. Steak served on a hot stone plate with veggies and roast potatoes was both inviting and tasty. Calamari was excellent. Decent wine list. Varied menu to appease most palates. Service was warm, friendly and efficient. Owner was personable and more than welcoming. Felt like you were being served by friends. Prices were high for the area, but is all relative, actually great value for the quality and would command much higher prices if in Toronto. Overall a great meal in a comfortable surrounding, provided by excellent staff. Well worth the money. read more

After driving by Barcelos for the last 10 years, I finally went in for a dinner. It's not a cheap menu by any stretch of the imagination. The price of items made us hesitate on ordering some things. There were three of us & we ordered the stuffed chicken peri-piri, the 7 oz filet mignon & the 10 oz NY strip. The two steaks came on very hot & heavy granite stone platers. We also ordered three plates of the Portuguese custard tarts & a flourless chocolate cake. The tarts are not made by them but were good quality. All the food was very good & enjoyable. For the 3 main dishes, but no appetizers, 4 deserts, 1 bottle of water, 1 beer & 1 gin & tonic it came to $195 before the tip. As a side note, the bottle of water sitting ready on the table is $5. My parents held their 50th wedding anniversary dinner here. The service was awful. Slow service. The waitress was extremely rude and was more interested in gossiping with her coworkers than in providing any level of customer service. I had to remind her several times to take our drink order and she got huffy, and then went out of her way to work especially slow. It was a special evening and her rude flippant attitude ruined it. The food was just ok. I realize Wasaga doesn't have a huge selection of restaurants but you're better off going to Collingwood and skipping this place. Not worth it. read more

A fun little place! Went for the first time on Wednesday night with a friend. The inside of the place is small, with only room to sit at the bar but it was a really nice night so we sat out on their patio, which is quite large. Barcelos has live music some nights of the week playing for guests as well, though we weren't there on that night. We ordered appetizers which we got quickly and were delicious and fresh. We were there on a Saturday night 6pm. We both ordered steak, it came on a board that had a stone centre. The steak, potatoes & veggies were kept hot the entire meal, because of the stone in the board. The steak was done to perfection & potatoes & veggies were delicious. The young man who served us was fantastic, very attentive but not intrusive. The prices are typical for the high quality of food & service. We will be back for sure, with more friends. Let me start with: No, I wouldn't come back to this place and would not recommend to friends. What've made me go there in first place: Catch 22 was completely full, Wassaga restaurant scenario is not that big, and of course Yelp reviews were amazing (only later I found many low-stars reviews hidden in Yelp filter). Like some people already described on hidden reviews, many things are not disclosed in this restaurant, they do not tell you that the bottled water they serve you as soon as you get there will be 5$ each; and they don't offer tap water, and there is split fee, and so on. My wife and I ordered the special, fillet mignon, not knowing it was 95$ because the server omitted this detail (they have steaks at 30 something so the price was a surprise to me), also the server offered us onions and potatoes, later we found out they were 5$ each, yes five! dollars for a small chunk of onion and another five for a chunk of potatoes. How was my experience before I got to know the final price (70$ each for a fillet mignon and water)? Nothing special, it was just a regular piece of meat of 250 grams, while we were eating the server was cleaning tables and chairs with a strong scented solution, my wife's fillet was cut in slices since the chef was unable to tell how the meat was cooked without cutting it. I didn't have a chance to talk to the owner but looking at the low-stars reviews it doesn't look that would be a pleasant conversation. I've been in all kinds of restaurants from *all* sorts of price range and for the price we paid that night I was expecting better food and better service, after I left I felt I just had burned my hard-worked money. Went here for the first time with friends for my Husband Birthday. He had two porterhouse steaks and boy were they amazing. If you want Porter house steaks this is the place to get them. You will have to pre order the day before and make reservations. Wednesday evenings they have a steak and wine special. Check it out. You won't be disappointed. Barcelos is a quaint little place for that family feeling. The owner and staff are wonderful. We will be back for their pig roasts and summer activities for sure. I've been there the first time on June 30 2010. This restaurant is amazing Portuguese restaurant off Sunnidale Rd. in Wasaga Beach. It consists of two parts - bar and restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy, the food is terrific. I've ordered 24 oz stake (comes on stone, so it's getting fully cooked in front of you), Caesar salad and sausage. Was not disappointed by any means! There were some items on the menu not available to us (chicken was eaten during previous day's Portugal/Spain soccer worldcup), but otherwise everything was as expected. read more

Came here on a Sunday night in November. Quiet atmosphere, two of us had the dining room to ourselves. Caesar salad, delicious house dressing, heavy on the garlic and flavorful. The lady had cod fillet and scalloped potatoes covered in cheese and baked in a clay pot. Amazing. I had the tasty seafood paella, came with lots of mussels, and the chef's personal explanation of the spices that went into seasoning. Will definitely find my way back here again. read more

I have never been to this restaurant and always love something new. The atmosphere was nice and they did a great job hosting due to COVID. Wait staff friendly, owner friendly and professional. The food on the other hand was not great. Our table started off with ceasers which tasted watered down. I split the seafood platter with a friend and was disappointed due to all the hype. The lobster was over cooked and rubbery, the shrimp as well; we got two small little crab claws and for the price I expected a little more crab. The muscles were good, but the rice was way too much and you could tell the rice was not cooked fresh it was atleast a day old. Same with the sausages they were over cooked and didn't look fresh that day. And I don't think the chicken needs to be added. Another person at my table had a steak and said it was delicious. By far the worse place to take your family. We had made reservations set by the manager for my family of 4. Two small children my husband and I. When we arrived we were offered to sit at the patio. It was really hot that day so we asked if we could sit at the back of the restaurant. The hostess accommodated she will open the lights for us so we can sit. By the time we sat down at our table we overheard the manager YELLING at the hostess - we heard him say that the hostess shouldn't have sat us there .. the hostess told him that if you want the business.. he yelled back saying that they are too busy for us (meanwhile I could count the customers on one hand) and that he didn't NEED our business. Once I heard that I picked up my children and walked out and as I left the hostess looked confused and asked us why were we leaving .. Unfortunately, disappointing value. I ordered a Caesar salad entree which had 2 shrimp and 2 small scallops for 26.00!!!! There was literally a small romaine head in the centre of the plate and a 3/4 cup of Caesar salad dressing on either side of the heart. Lettuce swimming. A warning for anyone thinking of dining here. Make sure you ask the price of everything you order. My experience on a first ever visit was a big shock when the bill came. My first problem was the warm beer for $6. and the waitress thought it was fine. She then brought us a wine bucket with ice to set our beer in to make it cold. It didn't work. Then when we went to order she suggested the 'special' which was 2 eight ounce steaks with a lobster that we could split. What does 'special' mean to you? I made the big mistake of not asking the price of this special. It turned out it was a special alright. Two of us having this dinner and 3 beers and the bill came to $110.00. Needless to say the server did not get a tip from me because she didn't earn it. Shouldn't the server tell you the price of their 'specials'?? My experience has been that a 'special' means that they have included something extra to make it a 'special'. We were charged all the regular prices which were $28. for the steak and the lobster was the regular charge of another $22. each. That lobster ended up costing us $44. for one lobster. The food wasn't even hot. More like 'luke warm'. What a disappointment. We will NEVER eat here again. I informed the server how unhappy I was and they didn't even offer us anything to compensate in any way. Didn't even apologize for the large bill. That's because everything was expensive. This restaurant should be shut down! The worst dinning experience I have ever, ever had. We arrived on a very humid day that also had a threat of rain. The waitress told us they were only seating outside tonight. The table we sat at had sap all over it from the tree above us, the plastic on it was ripped, I had wore a dress and they sat us on horrible dirty plastic chairs. We really should have left right then. The flies were crazy, so many of them. Just as we were going to order one of my friends asked that the table be cleaned and we were told by the waitress this is the worst table, like what you couldn't have suggested upon entry to sit elsewhere. My husband ordered his food and the disappointment was so real, paella was floating in liquid, nothing I have ever seen before nor ever will again, it was like soup. I had a massive amount of noodles and a small piece of salmon and 4 shrimp. Flies all over our food and us. We asked for the bill and it started raining, yay make our experience even better now with a $150 bill. Really for such crap. The following day my husband had severe diarrhea and started vomiting. My favourite place to eat in Wasaga! While my husband travelled often I would sometimes bring the kids up for that weekend and rent one of those crappy crappy motels... That was learning experience to never do again... But I love this place for their pig roast which was quite reasonable only seven dollars I believe. They roasted the pig over an open spit for four hours with with no seasoning - only salt pepper and a case of beer. The staff are super friendly at a time that I was feeling sad and almost like a single mother alone with my kids all the time as my husband traveled. They told me fun stories about the various Toronto Maple Leafs who would come in and eat, and they had signed photos to prove it. Very happy memories lovely staff--- worth the drive and a great patio!!!!!!! I have to start by saying that I would NEVER step foot in this restaurant again. My friends and I came from out of town and we made reservations to eat here. We were seated in the back dining room (which was slightly grungy) with several bottles of water on the table. Assuming that they were on there for us to drink, we opened them as the waitress Janice/Janet (who I later found out was the manager and owner) watched us. Little did we know, we were being charged $5 for each bottle we opened. She did not give us the option to choose if we wanted to open this "imported water" or if we wanted the free tap water. She did not even try to compensate us for this lack of communication on her behalf. She rudely told us that there was nothing she could do and it would be added to our bill. I proceeded to make a suggestion that she tell her customers that the water is a $5 charge instead of trying to scam. Her response was "Ya, I get it." For dinner, my friends and I all ordered the steaks, which came on a cooking stone. We all ordered our steaks medium rare, thinking that it would be served and cooked to us in that way. We once again, were not informed that this cooking stone would continue to cook our steaks. By the time 5 minutes went by, our steaks turned hard because they became overcooked. If we had been informed, we would have ordered the steaks a little bit more undercooked. The plate also came with some potatoes and 4 pieces of asparagus. No substitutions were allowed (we wanted more vegetables instead of the potatoes). She also rudely recommended that we pay extra for any sides IN ADDITION to the already over priced meal. ($5 to add on a slice of cheese) After all that, we waited a good 30 minutes before she brought us our bills. She added on a %15 gratuity for the group AFTER taxes, which I personally think is ridiculous because as far as I'm concerned she did not deserve one penny of that. For being an owner and manager, she was extremely rude and does not seem to care about her paying customers. If you're looking for excellent service, good quality food and decent prices, I HIGHLY suggest you find a restaurant other than Barcelo's. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. RUDE OWNER Went after a beach day, myself and my 3 sisters. When we walked in, we were told we needed reservations, which we didn't have. We were offered a seat at the bar, but then a table came up on the patio. We were reminded several times we didn't have reservations and should be grateful for eating there. The staff were very busy, and we were not attended to well (but would come around just to remind us we didn't originally have reservations). - we asked for water which never came. Turns out they don't serve tap water and didn't inform us or offer bottled water. - we ordered 2 entrees to share and were charged a ridiculous spilt fee of $14. This was not on the menu or disclosed by the staff - we waited 45 min for our salmon dishes to arrive and when they did they were luke warm. The food was tasty, but nothing special Way over priced. Prices comparable to the Keg but the service and customer appreciation is a zero. The owner is extremely rude and yells at his staff and customers. When we questioned the split fee he yelled at us and said this is his restaurant and we took up space in HIS restaurant. Basically pay and just shut up. He is trying to be a 5 star restaurant but with his attitude he is a 0 star. The staff are scared of him and if a customer dares question anything he becomes irate and screams at them.
