This place is amazing! You can tell there was a TON of thought put into this place, because everything is spot on. The games are well organized, the staff is super friendly, the chairs are comfy even after hours of sitting in them and the food is amazing. I love that there are tons of drink options, from coffee to seltzer to bubble tea to beer and wine. The variety of snacks are great too. I've been twice so far and have had such a great time I'm hoping to make it a standing weekly activity with friends. Both times I've visited have been on Sunday afternoons, when it was busy but not overcrowded. Getting a table was not a problem either time, but I might call ahead if you're worried about it. I went to Bard & Baker to meet up with friends. The food is spectacular but the cocktails are a bit esoteric. The pastries they offer are also delicious. I would up spending 60$ just on myself between paying to play the games (you pay once and can play all afternoon) and all of the food. It's a bit dangerous how good it is since the prices are a bit high for cafe fare. Service is excellent too, as well as the variety. I had the bbq pork back sandwich when I went I highly recommend coming here for a nice afternoon of games and delicious eating. read more

(Especially the Buffalo chicken). And the Thai tea! Their tapioca pearls are flavorful & a great consistency. The best I've had. For games, we def recommend Time Stories & Obscurio!! We've been playing a new Time Stories expansion every week. The staff are so friendly & helpful, & are always willing to give game suggestions. My husband & I shared a Mac & cheese yesterday instead of getting our own, & it was impossible not to notice that they purposefully loaded the bowl up more than normal, & put in a lot more chicken. They're just very thoughtful. We've brought family & friends here & can't get enough. Good for all ages. We went to Bard & Baker on a Friday evening during the holiday season, with both adults and pre-teens. We ate, we played games, then we drank. A fun time was had by all! It was busy, but not too noisy --trust me, I'm old and my hearing isn't what it used to be. There were games of all kinds, a variety of food, comfortable seats, and friendly service. The staff not only deals with the food, but they also answer all the (oft-times) stupid questions people have about rules of the games. If I were a young adult living in Troy, I would be there most weekends. The food and drinks were decent, but I wasn't there for fine cuisine. The place is inexpensive, clean, bright, and well kept. Bard and baker is quite a unique place. Where most places want to turn over tables quickly, bard and baker encourages people to sit down and watch play board games. I think there is a time limit on how long you can sit and play but I haven't seen it be enforced. You do have to pay $5 per person if you want to play games but it's really not bad for a fun night out. Their food selection is small plates and seems to be comfort food centric with a nice selection of beer, cider and non alcoholic beverages. My favorite events have been the Dungeons and Dragons classes they've been hosting lately. I wish them luck and hope to have them around for a while. read more

They have a fantastic selection of board games and the employees are incredibly knowledgeable about them and are always eager to help you learn them. I'm consistently happy with my food and drinks: every baked good, sandwich, tea, and cocktail is always perfect. I love that they carry beer, mead, sake, hard cider, and wine, and while they don't have a huge variety of any one of them, there are enough options to guarantee you find something you like. This place is a gem. $5 to play any board game, all day. Clean bathrooms, both of which are gender neutral. There are plenty of tables and they offer really good boba tea (known by others as 'bubble tea'). I mentioned to my friend that the best boba tea I've ever had is from Short and Stout... funny, that's where they get their tea. Awesome! It's delicious. The tapioca itself is a bit sweet, chewy, and sticky, but perfect. Anyway, they have a large selection of board games, which are categorized by colorful stickers. They have snacks, meals, beer, and wine. They're open in the morning, afternoon, and night. I'm excited that there's something more to do around here than drink and eat! My girlfriend stepped into this cafe to get a frozen wine beverage. After looking at us strangely upon walking in, the lady at the counter refused to serve my girlfriend even after presenting appropriate identification. (my gf is 33 and I'm 30). The establishment refused to serve my girlfriend and although an overly cautious cafe owner is completely valid. I'm pretty sure refusal to serve someone just because they associate with a young black male is not warranted (pandemic or no pandemic). RASIST establishments like these do not help to flatten the curve, they simply add more confusion to an already confusing time. With that said, I will walk 30min home and 30min back for my frozen wine beverage. I intend on rating the quality of said beverage with extreme prejudice on social media. Let me say this first, if you want to come to this place, you really have to have time to sit and play and enjoy the games, especially if you're coming with a group of friends. Because you pay to play, so you might as well make it worth paying for. They have a great selection of board games, and there is a lot of seating. We came at 10 on a Saturday, and the food wasn't being served until 11, so that was a little disappointing, because we were quite really hungry and we weren't aware of this. I had the nutella, banana toast and it was very yummy. I'll definitely get it again next time. They make the bread there, and it was fresh and warm and went perfectly with the cold weather. They also only have filter coffee and a few latte options. I wish they had some espresso drinks. There is parallel parking on the street, and it's a busy spot, near Broadway, so be aware that you might need to look for parking. My friends and I played FRIENDS, and we had a nice time together. read more
