I was immediately taken aback at the diverse selection of both new and used books. Although it is a small store, it is packed with so many good options. I went in to browse and maybe pick up one or two newbies, but ended up leaving w 7 gems. All used books, but in good condition. With taxes, I spent only a little over $30. I was able to pick up books of stories with Mexican, Nicaraguan, Salvadoran, Puerto Rican, and Indian backgrounds. I was in literary heaven! My favorite part of the shop was a little room in the back that has shelves stocked with really old stuff. There are 2 chairs in there for patrons to sit and browse, and black and white photographs draped on the walls to accentuate the room. I had an immediate spike in endorphins! Other pros: the staff is very helpful, they have a little coffee cart from a local business pop up on weekends, and they host various community events/workshops. I asked the store if they would still honor it and they said they "have no way of proving it's authenticity." You may not know, but their gift certificates from that time were printed on old library catalog cards and signed by the owner. Pretty easy to see that mine is authentic. I'm more upset because there is a law in California which states "expiration dates, service fees and dormancy fees are prohibited by law for single-store cards." If I misread the law, I apologize. Nevertheless, I'm still upset that I couldn't use my gift after being so happy to initially receive and then to find it again after so long.

The Friends of the Yorba Linda Public Library Book Corner is located on the west side of the Yorba…read moreLinda Public Library, right under the big stair case. There are two ways to get to this small book shop, one is to walk past the main entrance of the library and go down the stair case, or you can park on the west side of the library and enter under the large stair case. The store is tiny, but you can find some steals and bargains here. Make sure you come with plenty of time, patience and cash as they have quiet a bit to look through. About half of the items that are sold are old library items and the other half have been donated by people no longer wanting them. Books usually sell for $1, some are marked a little higher depending on how valuable they really are. The purpose of the Book Corner is to raise funds for more library programming. From what I can recall, the Friends of the Yorba Linda Public Library do give quiet a bit of money back to the library. The book corner has a couple of pretty large book sales every couple of months. These book sales get packed, but can secure you some awesome scores. They sell everything from books on CD, video games, records and books for all ages and subjects! Check them out and support your local library!

We almost resigned ourselves to standing in the back, but we were quickly and kindly ushered to a couch. Everyone who went up to the mic was so, so good. All genres were represented: poetry, fiction, nonfiction, children's, comics. Two people even gave rousing music performances. Many people read in Spanish, and every single person read with humor, heart, and honesty. There were a lot of laughs and a lot of tears. The store truly is a safe space. Do I feel bad for not buying any books by Hispanic or Latino authors? A little bit... which is why I promise to come back and keep supporting this wonderful, beautiful, meaningful haven.
