A very convenient location! The store is styled for the new model of Barnes & Noble. It does make it a bit more confusing to find genres but everything is labeled and once you figure out the layout of the store it works. The personal staff picks/selections are all wonderful suggestions. While they do have a lot of books/genres/authors it does seem like a lot of options were missing specifically in classics and fiction. Again they can't sell every book ever but this last visit was more of a miss for me. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly here and the store is clean! read more

I like this location because it is super convenient inside The District in Tustin. Book set ups are viewing friendly which I enjoy but one thing this place lacks is that cozy Barnes and Noble feeling. It just feels super sterile (could have something to do with the ceiling and reflective floors) but that's a personal preference thing lol. I was so thankful to see that there is still a Barnes & Noble around. It brings back memories to when my daughter was little and we would go hang out there all day. Well, my daughter and I decided to have a mother-daughter date last weekend, and we were pleased that this Barnes & Noble was one of the few still open. This Barnes & Noble is smaller than the ones we used to go to, but still had plenty of book sections to go through. I absolutely loved the vinyl music collection, and found my favorite section: sports (or running in particular). I was able to pick out a couple books of interest, but found that they had limited seating areas for us to hang out. If this store had more seatings available (and a coffee shop), it would get 5 stars. Other than that, it was still a great day spent at Barnes & Noble. My daughter and I each ended up buying a book, so maybe there is a perk to having limited seating areas. Please never close, Barnes & Noble. We like having you around! read more

A whole new vibe! Clean, bright, inviting with a much more modern design. No carpet or over stuffed chairs teeming in germs. Was surprised at how large the gift area footprint is but gosh, the selection of unique gifts, themes ... it is pretty spectacular. Additionally, it was competitively priced. Winning. When it comes to books, I'm definitely old school, and this B&N is one of the largest and most well-stocked stores in the chain. I was visiting the area and needed to kill some time, so I stopped in to browse. One HOUR later, and I had still only explored about half of the store! This bookstore has concrete floors that can be unforgiving to your feet, but there are rows and rows and rows of real, physical books and media! Browsers will be in absolute heaven. The store is organized well and logically, with a terrific kids' section, music section, and more! They have a great magazine selection with all sorts of rare titles, and there's a lovely stationery section with pretty wrapping paper, greeting cards, and other small gifts that any book lover would adore. While I was in the store, several employees approached me in a non-obstrusive manner to ask if I needed assistance. I was very impressed with the service from the moment I walked in the door until the moment I checked out. This is one of the last remaining book stores, and it's a great one! Let's all make it a point to keep B&N in business. read more

I think this is one of the last few physical Barnes & Noble bookstores around. I remember always stopping by one of these as a kid whenever there was one nearby. There's just nothing else like being able to pull a book off the shelf, and flipping through the pages before deciding. I hope the ones that are left will be sticking around. I got a voicemail a couple weeks ago from Julia from Barnes and Noble letting me know that they had something of mine in lost and found. I thought that was odd because it had been about a month since I had been to that Barnes and Noble but when I called them back, Julia let me know that I had dropped $100 in cash at the store and they used the cameras and then their system (I'm a book club member) to track me down to give me the money. I was so shocked, it blew my mind that they would take the time to get my money back to me. She said it took her longer because something in their system wasn't working as it should, so after 4 weeks she was finally able to let me know about the dropped money. I am so appreciative of the time and effort they took to track me down and give me my money back, I can't even believe it. I already like the selection, cleanliness and location of this store so I will happily continue to come shop here! read more

My kink is smelling books. Unluckily for book lovers in Orange County, our bookstore scene is lacking. While I'd much rather support a trendy locally-owned bookstore (if you're reading this, please open one) I was excited to see this refreshed Barnes & Noble concept come to Tustin. Like a traditional Barnes & Noble, this spot is loaded with books. But what sets this location apart is it's modern makeover. The interior is both gorgeous and clean. It's a large space filled with all your favorite book categories. I especially loved their clearance section, which had some pretty awesome cookbooks at a discounted rate. This location is special due to it's large quantity of book merch. Since I can't live inside my favorite book, the next best thing would be surrounding myself with themed merch. You'll find book-ish items, characters from your favorite stories, and gifts for your favorite book-worm. The negatives? Bookstores are supposed to be warm and cozy. There's no seating or coffee shop to keep customers lingering. I might be picky, but one of the best ritual of book browsing is doing so with a coffee in hand. Grandkids and myself love this place. The one we used to go to close down so we go to this one. They had a lot of buy one get 50% off which we took advantage of. Three grandkids all found what they wanted, a couple like five nights at Freddy's, one granddaughter got the girl who fell beneath the sea. She also bought a book for a friend's birthday with a cute bookmark. It's tough to get out of there for under $100. Don't know who she was, but she helped my granddaughter quite a bit, especially looking for a gift for a boy. It's a good thing he likes to read. The place is huge lots of room, everything above the books is marked as to what type. I believe they also have a Starbucks, which you can buy a book and drink and read. Also for free if you sign up you get points and I believe you get 100 points you get five dollars off your next purchase. I'm sure I'll get there. read more

Found a good selection but hardly any places to sit down and read to decide if I want to purchase. Nice, clean store, clerks are pleasant and offer assistance often. TERRIBLE parking lot compared to The Marketplace but a beautiful, updated rendition of modern Barnes and Noble. The old location had a coffee shop and was very inviting. Tons of seats and places to sit. This location is less inviting and has very little seating. Positive note: It's very organized and easy to find things. The new kids section is about half what it was in the old store but it's a cute setup. All in all I miss the separate kids section, coffee shop and inviting charm. But I like the new modern feel and ease of finding what you are looking for. PS parking will be much better after the holidays. read more

We were actually on our way to Whole Foods Market when my husband noticed the modern Barnes & Noble sign where a home furnishings store used to be. We were there on a Thursday late afternoon and fortunately found parking right away (yesss!). This parking lot will get busy because of all the many neighboring businesses. As mentioned this used to be home furnishings store before (AKI Home), so we knew walking in this place would be huge...and yes it sure was! Unfortunately we were pressed for time, so we couldn't explore the entire store as we wanted. Instead, we went straight to our favorite sections, which you will see from the pics...lol! The service was not up to par. I had to wait one-half hour plus for service in the children's book department. However, as soon as someone was available, I was assisted immediately. I wish all Barnes & Noble were as well designed, clean and organized as this location. There was a lot of variety that I was surprised they have. Additionally they have great stationary items that I've seen mostly online that's designated Asian stationary website. Amazon doesn't have most of these brands. This is the first location that a staff member asked me if I needed help and all staff were welcoming and had great customer service. I'll be continuing to go to this location a lot more. read more

A new location! It used to be at the tustin marketplace. New, clean, and it smells like new books. Friendly staff. I like that they have lots of chairs to sit in. No cafe and no bathroom! What? The cafe was the best part! I prefer the old location. Now, we must go next door for bathrooms and food. read more

As bookstores are becoming harder to come by, it's really nice to have this brick and mortar establishment still exist. I was able to bring my toddler to explore the book aisles and check out books, ranging from a memoir from Brittney Spears to cookbooks and children books. Everything is well organized and easy to navigate with plenty of room to push around a stroller and browse the selection. I didn't have a chance to really speak to any store associates, but I did see them readily helping other folks within the store. The pricing seems about on par with expected retail pricing of a hard copy book, as I saw most items ranging from $20-$40 depending on the binding and paper or hardback. The novelty of the bookstore is also the children's section having a reading area, random "educational" toys, and the ease of reviewing the latest book releases without having to do much research. Overall, I would certainly return if I ever wanted to let my kid browse or bring a nephew/niece to check out items in person. read more

Three and a half stars for me. A new B&N is such exciting news to me, especially since so many in my area have closed recently. I couldn't wait to visit the new store. This Barnes & Noble has a more modern feel than the other locations I have been to do. There is no carpet but instead polished concrete flooring. The lighting is pretty harsh. The setup is very open, clean, and bright. This is louder than most other locations, I'm sure in part due to concrete floors. Every little kid's scream and every voice belonging to a high-pitched or semi-loud person carries everywhere. So while for me any bookstore is at least somewhat good, this one is a bit on the loud side. This location does have a few chairs around for customers to sit in, which is nice, but there is no cozy feeling due to the more modern/industrial decor and lighting. From what I saw the book selection is pretty good. I came with a list, which I always do, and while I usually find nothing in the physical locations from my list and have to end up shopping online, I actually did find one of my items here and it was a rarer title that I was stunned they had, so that was great. The puzzle section felt a little bit small but it was well organized and very easy to see exactly what puzzles they have in stock without having to dig through the shelves. The section for gifts and journals was extensive and well laid-out with a good variety and logical setup. My only real criticism aside from the lack of a cozy atmosphere is that the checkout line is a little confusing. People were standing in different spots and on different sides, unsure of how the line should form or flow. That will hopefully be ironed out as things move along. Overall I liked this B&N just fine, but it is not going to take over as my favorite location or anything like that. And while the more modern, loud atmosphere is interesting and will appeal to some, it may not be as pleasing to others who are accustomed to a more comforting, warm environment in a bookstore. read more

Books are well organized so I was able to find everything I was looking for during this visit. In addition, the employees were really helpful and friendly. This BN looks small but is packed. The genre sections look like they are not big but they really fit sooo many titles on their shelves. I came out with 5 new books. The customer service is great too. The manager was on the floor tasking and asking customer if we needed help finding anything. It's so nice to see that in involvement. Well, I went to check out the recently opened "new concept" Barnes & Noble at the Tustin Legacy shopextravaganzaland. Super DISAPPOINTING! First of all - there's no cafe! None!! The store looks generic and faceless, from the stupid new sans-serif logo on the front to the entire industrial-boring layout inside. I just saw an article on this trend that calls the style "modern ennui" or "international blah." It's characterless. It's made to keep the herd moving - not sitting, not reading, not coming to this store to relax. (There are also no restrooms - they are truly paring down any human comforts.) I heard a couple in front of me saying essentially the same things, and reminiscing about how they miss the old B&N in Orange -- yup, me too. The cafe there was my old hangout, till the fire that closed that store last February. Anyway - no cafe means I won't be driving all the way here any more - I can buy books on Amazon. Bookstores are supposed to be local hangouts - not faceless shopping marts. There's no soul here. AND there's hardly any seating. Six little chairs in the entire store. Having recently had hip surgery, I'm now extremely attuned to accommodations for people with disabilities. This store had zilch. I limped around for half an hour hoping a chair would become available, but no joy. I was going to choose one of three travel books I'd picked out, but I put them back. Lost sale! Again, I can sit comfortably and shop on Amazon - and often peruse the first chapter of books there. No such comfort at this store. The one good thing I can say is that it does have a lot of books, which is B&N's saving grace - they're now concentrating on books instead of games and cards and etc and have found that to be a path back to success. But - come on, B&N! Emphasizing books shouldn't mean de-emphasizing your individuality and removing your cafes, those little oases of rest and literacy that attracted so many of us to read, relax and choose which books to buy at our leisure. And if I don't have a place to at least sit for a while and read first chapters, I can buy online. As a writer AND a reader, I'll be sending these same thoughts to B&N executive leadership. But wanted to share here so local staff and potential customers can peruse. B&N Tustin? 1/10 do not recommend. If this is the "future" of brick-and-mortar bookstores, this devoted bookstore fan says NO thank you! read more

Today, around 8:30 PM. My husband accidentally used the restroom that, we later discovered, is only for employees. There were no signs indicating such. A young female worker told him after not to use the bathroom without permission, and proceeds to follow my husband around the entire store for the duration of our visit, going as far as checking the Jiji backpack he was looking at in the Studio Ghibli section after noticing him looking inside the pockets of the bag. I understand he erroneously used your restroom, but to stalk him and watch over him like he is some kind of criminal makes me feel like your employee had racist tendencies and because of this, we will no longer be returning here ever again. Of note, I am Latina and my husband is Vietnamese. We left the store feeling super lousy and were reminded that, there are always places in society we will not be respected in no matter what we do. This is the brand new B&N at the District in Tustin, taking over the Aki Home space. It was my first time visiting and I must say that I find the old styling of the B&N stores more comforting and cozy. The selection was great, as they had lots and lots of very tall shelving, but there weren't many places to sit and read like the old stores. However, please do stop by if you need to pick up a book, music, magazine, or cute stationery. I feel like with convenient online shopping these days, we need to do more to keep our bookstores alive! read more

I was super excited when this B&N opened in my neighborhood. Well that didn't last long. It's got a weird pretentious vibe and identity crisis: half bookstore half industrial prison/loneliness club. People wandering aimlessly trapped in a swirling maze of books and "stuff". Not my vibe but some folks love it and it never stopped me from picking up a book I wanted to read. But my main point is every B&N since time immemorial has had a heavy duty bookstore vibe with an emphasis on BOOKstore. Hang out, spend time, browse. Read for a while. Then came Starbucks and that was okay and then came games and stocking stuffer type items. This one is loaded with extracurricular stuff. Good selection and all designed to keep you in the store longer. Yes, LONGER. And here's the rub: if you're in the store longer you might need a bathroom. Which all B&N have. Including this one. Except this one comes with bathroom police and velvet rope attitude. Shocking right? I know. (Actually I didn't know! Until my family all shared their distinct experiences). Keep in mind that attitude is only reserved for 'certain' customers. Maybe that's all part of their faux upscale vibe but for a brand with the scale and tenure of B&N that's a giant misstep. Can you imagine Target deciding who can and can't use the bathroom by way of granting permission? (Yes I know Target has 'other issues' but that's not the discussion here). Speaking of, I have shopped here regularly for the past year used this bathroom multiple times on separate visits and it's as busy as any Target bathroom. So when they told my adult children and my husband on separate occasions it's employees only, it puzzled me. And they seem to convey this message selectively and with tone which is even more puzzling and kinda ick. No need for attitude. All I can take from this shabby employee behavior is they are misguided in their efforts and come off as discriminating and petty. And for that reason I will buy elsewhere. Who wants to shop in a store that discriminates whether it's based on race, age, disability or whatever unspoken forces govern these arbitrary decisions. Shame on you B&N. I hope this location goes out of business and the petty power tripping sad sack bathroom monitors/employees reconsider their futures in service industries because none of them should be employed in one. read more

Lots of choices but no seating. How does one shop for books without sitting and looking at books? The only seats available are held by teens not shopping. As a person with some disabilities in my legs, I'm limited as to how long I can stand. My practice at B&N which spans decades now is to pick out some books and look through them, choose a few and make my purchase. It's impossible to do this or to hold more than one book. I wish they would reconsider this issue, even a library where one goes to check out books has tables. For this reason, I have not returned to this store. read more

There are some somewhat scattered around the place which is nice but does not have the book store vibe to it. Great movie section mixed with some vinyls which is always nice to see.
