Then much sooner than they originally said he would likely be adopted, he was adopted to another person 2 weeks after placed in facility by Livonia Fire Dept. member. I was told he wouldn't be open for adoption for ~2 weeks AFTER THAT. Everything with this organization is so secretive but then when they change their own plans, they don't bother to tell the prior owner. This is how everything got all messed up for me & the lady we thought would get him - she and her husband seemed the perfect match. Then all our plans fell through. Ruined what I thought would be the expected plan. I just pray this place had the knowledge & wisdom to choose the best person(s) for my Lil Guy. I pray & thank you, Dear Jesus.

They really care about the welfare of the animals, which seems 100% appropriate for an animal rescue. I was grateful for the education and support on how to care for them properly (it's true that domestic rabbits need to be indoors for their health, safety, and wellbeing (just like you wouldn't keep a dog tied up in the yard the time) and that they are too fragile to be pets for small children). This rescue gives their all to care for every animal that comes their way, and I really respect and appreciate them for that. Needless to say, I absolutely adored the pets they adopted out to me. The bunny lived to be almost 14, and it's impossible to put into words how much joy he brought to me and our other bunny (they bonded instantly and were best friends for life!). The owner is very loving of her animals, and won't adopt them out to people who won't care for them as much as she would. And she's a good judge of character. This certainly upsets people, especially customers who think they're walking into a pet store and can just buy whatever they want to take. Most people want to do what they want, and not what's best for the animals. It's selfish to not understand that. I wish this rescue the best, as it is easily the most labor-intensive show of love of any shelter I've been to.

However, upon our recent visit in search of a new furry family member, we were astounded by the remarkable transformation the place had undergone. The facilities have been completely revamped, offering comfortable spaces for the animals. What stood out the most was the genuine kindness and wealth of information shared by every staff member and volunteer we interacted with. Their love and dedication to the well-being of every single animal in their care shone through. Kudos on the exceptional work!

I told the front staff receptionist (Hanna) who told me "I should adopt the cat and take it to my vet". I explained that the animals should be in good health when adopted out. I then told Shawn Donovan (supervisor) who said "they weren't going to spend a bunch of money at the vet for me to swoop in and adopt the cat, that's not how shelters work and I should go pick another one". I explained I'd like to complete the paperwork and pay and pick up the cat once he was cleared by vet and he told me "he would not notify me, that he was the boss, and that he did not know what I was not understanding". He then said he would give me the cat and I could take it to my vet. This was easily the most unprofessional and oddest interaction I have ever had with any shelter staff at any shelter. I understand that shelter environments have skeleton staff and budgetary constraints but both Hanna and Shawn Donovan displayed attitudes that show they are unhappy with their jobs. Their actions aren't aligning with animals best interest and they are making rules up as they go with minimal oversight. I hope this reaches someone who cares and can address the issue as multiple reviews mention similar behavior and adoptions are being lost due to poor staff behavior.

Reliable in communication and the volunteers we have interacted with clearly have nothing but love and care for animals who need some help to find a better home. Adopting a rescue animal is a commitment, some of them may need some behavioral work. Ours not only needed medical help but we had to work with him on becoming house broken. With patience and time he has become house broken and we have a lovely new friend. A win for all of us and wow has he blossomed into a great dog who is well loved.

Last Day Dog Rescue contacted me and gave me the information and directions (we live up in Northern Michigan), and my husband and I traveled to Livonia and adopted this precious Magoo. Magoo was about six years old when we adopted him, and for the next 1o years we felt so blessed to have such a perfect baby.
