We've had five sessions so far and in those five sessions, along with the homework that I gladly do, I have helped my dog be more controlled on the leash and be more controlled and regulated at home. She's more comfortable and more confident now than she was when I got her. Even though I know the work isn't over, I'm confident knowing that I have Drea to help me and to inform me on best practices. He's a 2 year old American Staffie/Basset Hound/Chow/Terrier mix from Florida--a sweet, cuddly, goofy, hunk. Otis was SO ready to be loved and properly cared for, but as he settled into his new home it became clear he had never been socialized, showed physical and emotional signs of severe abuse, and had major anxiety/fear of strangers. We felt in over our heads, and worried Otis might harm someone out of fear (no fault of his own) but felt committed to giving Otis every chance we could to thrive. We found Drea on Yelp and were drawn to her experience with rescue dogs in particular. We contacted her right away and had an appointment set up within days. Drea came to our apartment to meet us and Otis and it instantly felt like the stars had aligned. She had total confidence upon meeting him-- no fear, and a great openness and connection with him and us. The first thing she said when she met Otis was "ok, you guys got yourself a real southern hound!" We knew we had found the right person. Drea observed right from the start that Otis is a pack dog and how important it was going to be for us to grow his pack and take steps to build both his and our confidence. Drea's training method focuses on the role that both owner and pet play and how those roles need to be established and reinforced through commitment, repetition, and positive motivation as the key drivers of success. Over the last 10 months we've learned how to use our voices, bodies and body language to do everything from solidifying Otis' basic obedience skills to being able to take Otis and ourselves out of our comfort zones and introduce new people, places and experiences into our lives. The results are tangible--a traumatized rescue who used to cower and tuck his tail between his legs on walks now barks with enthusiasm to go outside and wags his upright tail like a helicopter. Otis' behavior with, and fear of strangers is also noticeably different. His default reaction used to be aggression, but he's learned to control those urges, be calm and put his trust in us that all is okay. While we and Otis still have work ahead of us, the tools Drea has and continues to give us have provided invaluable confidence, patience, and a keen understanding of what it means, and what's needed to own and love a rescue pup. We couldn't love our Otis more and we are so grateful to Drea and know she will be a part of our pack for the long haul.

My son got Gracie, who is a pitti, as a rescue a year ago. She is a young strong dog, about 60lbs…read more My husband is retired and he watches her while my son works. We live in a large old Brooklyn apt building. The halls are narrow and the elevator can be full. There are times when Gracie will react strongly with some of the neighbors. This behavior is unpredictable. A lot of people don't like and are unfamiliar with dogs. They will stare at Gracie, and she is at 100 is ferocious. She is scary. That is a very uncomfortable and unwelcome situation and dangerous too. A dog like Gracie needs to be trained and we need to be trained too. We hired Gabriel to help us to understand how to work with Gracie. Over the year, we have had him come to our building and work with us 4x. It has been enormously helpful. He has helped us to work on specific things, like distraction by way of side pulling with the leash (never pulling back!), breaking her concentration on the one person, that is causing Gracie to go ballistic, with a gentle side pull, a circle away from the stimulus and a sharp noise that get her attention away from the stimulus. The goal is de escalate and it works! Having Gabriel work with us has helped us to gain the confidence necessary to work with our sweet charcoal gray Gracie. We will have come over again for a refresher session. Everyone needs a refresher. He was friendly to everyone when we first brought him home, but within a month or so he became aggressive and bit 8 people without being provoked. I hired 2 different trainers, both of which were bitten by Taz and recommended getting a sedative/relaxant prescription from the vet in order to train him. I couldn't get his attention and he was all over the place on walks, doing whatever he pleased. I was distressed at the thought of not being able to train him and having to send him back to the shelter. Then we started working with Twahlee and we finally saw changes in Taz's behavior. He is a great teacher, very patient and breaks down all the intricacies of dog training into small and manageable steps for the everyday person. Anytime we had a new issue, he always was able to give us a reason why it was happening and specific steps we could take to fix it. He has a great understanding of behavioral problems with dogs and a good system to change and manage those problems. I'm proud to say after a year and 10 classes training with Twahlee, Taz is now a good little boy! He's able to be off leash in the park, he can walk near people and other dogs without reacting, and he has excellent obedience. The training really changed mine and Taz's life - it could have ended very differently for Taz if we didn't get help from Twahlee.

I bought a package for my then-11-yr-old Puli, who I'd recently brought to NY after spending the majority of her life living with my mom in Florida. My dog is quite anxious and barks a lot, and struggled with the transition from living with one person to 8 overnight. I sought Twahlee's help in correcting my dog's anxious tendencies because at this stage of her life, the proper training techniques Twahlee has to offer would have been extremely difficult to implement. He helped give me an array of tools to help teach my dog stronger obedience, which would then lead to greater control over my dog. About 2 years later, I moved into a new home with a housemate who has a dog that can be aggressive with other dogs. Because I hadn't used my entire package, I asked Twahlee if there was a chance he could come by and apply one of my pre-paid classes to visit our home and assess how the two dogs exist in the home. He let me know that packages expire after one year, but that he would come anyway, because ultimately he just wants to help others. This was highly generous of him to do, and I'm extremely grateful for his flexibility. At the end of the day, choosing to work with a trainer is less so to train your dog than to train yourself on how to better manage your pet, and Twahlee did a great educating me on areas I could be doing better. His help and kindness over the last few years has been greatly appreciated, and I can say with great confidence he can make a meaningful difference in every dog and trainer's life.

He's a…read more'sato' (mixed breed) from Puerto Rico who was skittish, a lousy walker, hyper for other dogs since he was born in a cave & then fostered in the suburbs in a house with two other dogs who basically just went potty in the backyard. I spent 1.5 hours in the pouring rain w Anthony as we walked Benny into the field, where he was off-leash and learning how to follow, and also enjoying his time socializing with dogs. Anthony impressed upon me how important social play is for dogs to PURGE THE ENERGY out. Not going to lie, i LOVE to walk with dogs, and sitting around while THEY play was not my thing. LOL. WORLD OF A DIFFERENCE it has made. Benny is a great walker now (not pulling 90% of the time). He knows how to act when other dogs walk by us as he is rewarded to meet them after behaving! When he was approached by new people he would aggressively bark and growl. I had worked with another dog trainer for over a year -- his problems just became worse. I became reluctant to do things with Gus because I was fearful he would growl/bark/act inappropriately when meeting new people. I was at my wits end and I consulted with a well respected training program here in NYC that said he was a "moderate to severe case" and would need multiple weeks of boarding training + years of follow up training to address his issues. Anthony solved Gus's problems in 1 session. Yes, 1 session... Within seconds of meeting him, Anthony just "got" Gus. His advice and feedback was completely different from the feedback I got from the other trainers and Gus responded immediately. I am not exaggerating when I say that Gus has not growled or barked at a single stranger since working with Anthony. None of our concerns we described in the intake form about our dog's behavior changed once we got him back into our home.
