I was impressed with Twahlee's deep-seated knowledge about dog behaviour the first day I met him about 2 years ago. I bought a package for my then-11-yr-old Puli, who I'd recently brought to NY after spending the majority of her life living with my mom in Florida. My dog is quite anxious and barks a lot, and struggled with the transition from living with one person to 8 overnight. I sought Twahlee's help in correcting my dog's anxious tendencies because at this stage of her life, the proper training techniques Twahlee has to offer would have been extremely difficult to implement. He helped give me an array of tools to help teach my dog stronger obedience, which would then lead to greater control over my dog. About 2 years later, I moved into a new home with a housemate who has a dog that can be aggressive with other dogs. Because I hadn't used my entire package, I asked Twahlee if there was a chance he could come by and apply one of my pre-paid classes to visit our home and assess how the two dogs exist in the home. He let me know that packages expire after one year, but that he would come anyway, because ultimately he just wants to help others. This was highly generous of him to do, and I'm extremely grateful for his flexibility. At the end of the day, choosing to work with a trainer is less so to train your dog than to train yourself on how to better manage your pet, and Twahlee did a great educating me on areas I could be doing better. Twahlee's been a great trainer! We rescued our dog and he'd initially lunge and bark at nearly every dog on the street. He didn't know basic commands. We attended many private and group training sessions. We utilized Twahlee's guidance for months of training on walks, at parks, eating outside at restaurants. Twahlee helped us tap into our dog's motivation for food and play to make training a fun experience for him. Now, our dog can walk in a perfect heel, is off-leashed trained so he can run free at parks and on hikes with perfect recall, and is obedient enough to bring into shops, eat outside at restaurants and travel with. Absolutely incredible training. We got the five-session package to help our mini poodle with some leash walking and obedience issues. Twahlee changed our entire outlook on dog training immediately. It was so much fun to work with Twahlee on our first puppy Takito. Clearly, as a new dog owner, we knew nothing about how to train or communicate with a dog, Twahlee teaches us step by step and patiently answered all our concerns and questions. If you have dog problems - Twahlee is your guy! I was at my wits end with my adopted chow chow, Taz. He was friendly to everyone when we first brought him home, but within a month or so he became aggressive and bit 8 people without being provoked. I hired 2 different trainers, both of which were bitten by Taz and recommended getting a sedative/relaxant prescription from the vet in order to train him. I couldn't get his attention and he was all over the place on walks, doing whatever he pleased. I was distressed at the thought of not being able to train him and having to send him back to the shelter. Then we started working with Twahlee and we finally saw changes in Taz's behavior. He is a great teacher, very patient and breaks down all the intricacies of dog training into small and manageable steps for the everyday person. Anytime we had a new issue, he always was able to give us a reason why it was happening and specific steps we could take to fix it. I made the mistake of buying 8 classes up front with Twahlee / Metro Dog Training. Based on all the positive reviews I know that Twahlee is likely a great trainer for a lot of people. Like with dating though, I don't think every trainer is perfect for every dog parent - you have to find the right match. It has nothing to do with Twahlee's capabilities as a trainer but he and I just weren't on the same page / communicating well and so I asked Twahlee for a refund for the 4 unused remaining private lessons I had with him, offering to pay the higher amount per lesson as if I had only originally booked 4 private lessons. He got defensive, made up an arbitrary rule about the fact that since we had already started training he wouldn't be able to refund me, and saying that I would be happier if I came to more group classes and was more consistent with training, which only went to reinforce my point that we weren't communicating well / he wasn't listening to me because I never told him I was unhappy with my dog's training, just that I didn't think he and I were clicking and that I just didn't want to continue training together. I imagine he will respond to this defensively as well stating that I didn't give the training enough chance. Again, I wouldn't deny any of that, but at a certain point as a business that should pride itself on client satisfaction and generally just being decent on a human to human level, while in no way obligated to, if someone is telling you they are unhappy and want a refund for unused services it may just make sense to respect their wishes. It's frustrating when people think they know what's better for you more so than what you are telling them is what is right for you. With all that said, it's definitely his prerogative whether he wants to refund me the $800 or not but would just advise anyone contemplating working with him to try a single session or a group session first before shelling out $2K. read more

This review is way, way late but the still very much valid. We wanted to make sure we were capable of raising and managing our boxer puppy properly and Twahlee trained us all well. We often tell people Metro trained us more than Wesley as we seem to have benefitted more from it. Twahlee is extremely knowledgeable, amazing working with dogs and and showed us how to manage Wesley and though we probably should've gotten more sessions we've consistently worked on what we learned from Twahlee and Wesley is a well trained, though still learning, 16 month old Boxer who is the envy of dog owners in our neighborhood. He's still very much a pup but his behavior is, "so mature and well mannered" (told to us by a total stranger) to which we credit Twahlee and what we learned from him. I DO NOT RECOMMEND METRO DOG. Twalhee's training methods were abusive to my 1 year old mini Australian Shepherd, Ozzie. Every session, Twalhee would choke out my dog on the slip lead to the point of him throwing up. It broke my heart seeing my dog hanging from the slip, eyes bulging out, but I trusted the process thinking this was the only way to see results (which never came.) Ozzie is reactive to dogs out of fear, frustration and high anxiety. Twahlee tried to fix him by hurting him and scaring him so he would stop reacting. He does not know how to properly use the training tools, slip, prong, and e-collar. He used the e-collar so high that my dog would flinch to the ground. Ozzie was terrified of Twahlee. He would shake and pee himself when Twahlee took the leash. Ozzie has never acted this way with anyone else. · They do not know how to help with separation anxiety. They said to use the e-collar on Ozzie, which made him more fearful. · Twahlee and Kris gave me conflicting training advice that regressed Ozzie's training. · Kris was 15-30 minutes late for every private training session. · Twahlee was difficult to work with. He has a one size fits all dog training approach. When pointing out that his style is negatively impacting my dog, he was demeaning, dismissive, and blamed me instead of giving me proper guidance. · They know nothing about behavior modification training, which is needed to see long term positive changes in dog's behavior issues. All they do is correct (abuse) the dog until they stop reacting since they are terrified. I wasted too much money hoping Metro Dog could help me. They only made things worse. Please find a proper dog training. EDIT: In response to Twahlee - I had already successfully introduced Ozzie to my boyfriend's dog and roommates dog prior to starting training with Metro Dog. Twahlee attended my last private session, upon my request to introduce Ozzie to more well behaved dogs in a controlled setting. It was unsuccessful for long term progress because Ozzie was already terrified of Twahlee. He was too scared to even sniff the dog. He avoided the dog because he did not want to be hurt by Twahlee again. It is disappointing that as a dog trainer, Twahlee is unable to tell the difference between a shut down dog and a well behaved happy dog. A low e-collar setting is under 10. Twahlee used it around 40 on Ozzie during group training sessions to correct him into heeling next to me. read more

Twahlee is the best dog trainer I ever know. Our 3 years old shiba inu Kiku changed his behavior dramatically last 2 months with Twahlee's training. Kiku was aggressive to any dogs approaching but now can sit calmly in dog park (still a lot work to do to make him playing freely) Twahlee taught both Kiku and us great lesson. More importantly, he changed our belief that adult dog can't be trained. We are now much more confident about taking Kiku outside walking and playing. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Metro Dog Training. I purchased the Silver Package with Twahlee for my 7-month-old rescue puppy, Toby. During our private sessions, he has worked through MAJOR issues with walking and anxiety, while also learning recall and many other basic commands. Twahlee helped change the dynamic of the relationship between my dog and me by helping build better communication and trust between us. Before we started, I was beginning to feel hopeless after months of training Toby on my own and getting nowhere. After our first session, I saw an immediate change in my dog. My husband and I want to thank Twahlee for giving us the tools we needed for training of our coonhound mix Jack. Coonhounds are a difficult breed to train. They are scent hounds and will follow his nose and pull on leash. Jack no longer does this due to the introduction of the prong collar which we credit to Twahlee. At first I was hesitant but now with the prong collar, I walk Jack vs. the other way around. We also are able to give jack some freedoms with the e collar. This helped immensely with recall. My partner and I signed up our 5 month old cockapoo puppy for a 5 class package because we wanted to learn how to better manage his separation anxiety and to equip us with the tools to handle situations better with him.
