Not only does it have a lake right in the middle of the big dog park, it has plenty of old growth trees all around the park and poop bag dispensers and trash cans and benches on concrete bases. They also have a bathroom inside the dog park right next to a water fountain!! They have two separate Gates with there being two entries at each the big and small dog park entrance but the bathroom is in the big dog park hahaha sorry I couldn't help myself. But you can walk around the interior of the fence line but you probably should pack a lunch because it may be a while. Parking is right next to the dog park and is a nice big asphalt parking lot. But it's a great place to spend the day and let your dog run and playing and even get in the lake if it's so desires!! read more

I stopped here during lunch after picking up some fried chicken and fixings and although I no longer have a dog I do have the "unleashed" badge so that alone makes me a member of the club. I watched quite a selections of breeds jumping and barking at their owners to hurry up and let them out of the vehicle so they could run, jump, roll in the grass or splash in the water and of course sniff the newbies. I guess this to a dog is not unlike a human going to an amusement park, so much to experience and so little time to take it all in. Well I could only stay until the last piece of chicken had been eaten and it was back to work I go, while these canines ran around without a care in the world while most of their owners had their faces buried in their phones, it's a shame no one has the time to stop and smell the flowers and enjoy some downtime. Although I wouldn't recommend smelling any of the flowers inside the fences after watching a few dogs raise their legs and a few others dragging their asses across the lawn, but it is a great place to get a little downtime and I swear the chicken tasted so much better here than it does in the restaurant... read more

best dog park ever. Small dog area is huge. Normally most dog parks give the little guys no space to run around. Beautiful rolling hills, big dogs can swim in pond. Trees everywhere, plenty of parking love love love this place . too bad i live in sanford. I would go there all the time if it were closer. read more

I didn't know a dog park so perfect existed! We have a lab and he is a trained duck dog so to finally have an open body of water bigger than a puddle in Florida for him to go in is such a dream! Our little Frenchie pit mix had so much fun running and playing in and out of the water! There is SO much room to run & so many friends to make. We love this place for our dogs! Our Aussie Dixie is a swimmer and the fact she's got somewhere she can swim without a leash is Heaven. So much room for dogs to run and play and roam safely. Our puppy Alfie was still a bit small to be running with the big dogs, but most of the owners were very responsive to our requests to have their dogs give him some room. Enjoyed seeing the "packs" running around the park. Not too many "dog piles" which I still don't understand... think about everyone else's enjoyment and pick up after your dog! We know we'll be back when we're in the area again..! So many other amenities here, we'll have to make a day of it! read more

I have heard that dogs are getting ear infections from that water, there is a big dump down the road and it can be getting in that water.

Nice large expanse for the dogs to run. Plenty of trees for shade and tables or benches to sit while your dog plays and swims. I recommend bringing a bowel to fill because there's only one water station near the bathroom and this is a big park. read more

This was our first time here. Our dog, Sarge loved it! There is a huge pond in the middle of the park that dogs can play in. Just be careful of the turtles, there are many! But they didn't seem to bother our boy. There are also restrooms, a dog washing station (wasn't working that day) and separate areas for large and small dogs. Only down side is there isn't much areas for shade. On a summer day here, its quite unbearable at times so bring water!! read more

I will never come back to this dog park again. Unacceptable that you allow bigger dogs on the small dog side. My dog was just attacked and nearly got half her ear spilt open now. I'm completely disgusted that the owner of the dog that attacked my dog, didn't even apologize or nothing. We LOVEEEEE this dog park. We started coming every Sunday for the last month, it's now our Sunday tradition. Our lab loves the pond so so so much. She just walks in and swims; just minding her business in her own little world. Our German Shepard loves the water too, but enjoys running around with others the whole time. Such a huge area for our high energy breeds to let loose and have fun! (And the location is perfect, we go have lunch downtown at any pet friendly outdoor restaurants and walk around!) read more

This is a lovely dog park-best we've seen! Well maintained, clean, huge! My four footed kid had a wonderful time here.

I was in town for the Daytona Beach dog shows this past weekend and heard about this park. It is amazing! 9 acres of land for dogs to play in the shade or in the lake. I was so happy that I could take my German Shorthaired Pointer there in the morning before the show to burn off some of his steam and get him chilled out for the show. No mean big dogs and the dog owners there were very nice. Wish we had such a nice dog park in South Florida where I live! read more

I go everyday and just love having my handsome boy running around and swimming. **Would like to ask or remind folks that is important to clean up after your pet! Some people will just come and sit on one of the many benches or they tend to chat by the pond, not watching their dog(s) or cleaning up! I see this more on the weekends so enjoy the park when visiting or passing through, just clean up!! Also, keep close to your dog as they are your responsibility to be under control!! People are nice, the location is great, the park is huge, pond is large, but not as shady as other parks and another visitor suggested our dog should have the lepto shot before swimming in the murky pond. Bring a towel! read more

Holy cow this is the biggest, nicest dog park I've ever been to!!! I like that the small dog area is pretty big too! They even have a self service dog wash station with different shampoos, a dryer, and the tub has a door so you don't have to break your back lifting big dogs and so it's easier on old dogs. read more

Beautiful property! There is dirt so your dog will most likely get dirty if they are running in the main area. Looked like 2 other separate areas for small dogs or senior dogs. Wish it were closer for me...about 25 miles from Lake Mary. read more

Our two dogs are so happy we moved to DeLand. This park is the nicest, biggest, so well taken care of dog park I've ever seen. Nice to come and chat with people (you get to know everyone by their dogs). Dog wash station, water and bags provided. Clean bathrooms too. We try to go every weekend. read more

The Barkley Square Dog Park looks to be a very nice dog park with an area for the small dogs and the large dogs (25 pounds and over)...my only draw back is that since living here all my life I know what used to be there, a dump site/landfill. Although I will say it is a nice place for people to take their dogs to visit I am a bit concerned about the pond that is in the middle of the large dog area. I hear that it is a lined pond but am still concerned about the the disease this pond may carry with stagnant water and it being on an old landfill. I think they should split the large dog area again with a fence separation for people who don't mind their dogs in the pond and for people who do not want their dogs in the pond. It is hard to control an unleashed dog in terms of keeping it out of the pond when he/she is playing with another dog that goes into the water. I have a 4 month old pup that had to go in the large area because of her size, over 25 pounds. She made a buddy that liked to go in the water and so she followed along. It was very hard to keep her out of the water and of course from drinking the water which cannot be good even if it is a lined pond. I discussed this concern with my vet today and he told me that they do not recommend letting my dog swim in that pond or drink from that pond...that they have had a few dogs come in sick afterwards. I still give it big kudos regardless for anyone who wants to take their dog to a nice dog park and don't mind them getting in the water...it is very roomy with shaded areas, benches for weary owners chasing after their dogs to take a rest, watering stations, an area to bathe your dog before leaving (pay area) and very nice fencing. I guess for those canine owners who have large dogs and don't like the pond area (like me) we need to find another place to take our canine companions unless the County hears our voice for yet another fence separating an area for large dog ownerswho do not want them in the pond. From what I could see all complied with picking up messes made by their dogs with the exception of a few which is a shame. read more
